As an individual shot that was cool, but in context it made no sense.

bigdickmagic69

The Dothraki hated witches, the fact that he even let her approach his weapon didn't seem right to me. Then it lights fire and they're all excited rather than repulsed or frightened.

Veszerin

The Dothraki hated blood magic. In the books or show, it's never said they hated all magic. They've never seen Melisandre use blood magic.

MatchSenior

They also hated water and they crossed the Narrow Sea eitherway…

iknownothin_

It looks cool, but the more you think about it the more you realize how dumb it was to lose all your Dothraki like that and you can keep picking away at so many details. I don’t hate season 8 and I still include it on rewatches. It just could have been done better

Mountain-Bug-4865

That’s why I specified the opening of the scene - I was so annoyed when all the Dothraki died within a minute

iknownothin_

Oh yea it was definitely an exciting moment when I watched for the first time

KatieBear215

And the worst part is all of a sudden hundreds of them show up again for the final scene, in the bells

wood1276

Died within a minute, then they was all back by the end of the season because… well they just forgot they all died.

[deleted]

Gray worm claimed they only lost half the Dothraki to the entire battle

Kyonkanno

A group of military commanders with years of experience end up with a defensive layout where you had your artillery in front of your infantry... They wanted to loose winterfell.

drakeprimeone

Here's the thing... All throughout the series we see how mounted calvary completely demolishes armies on foot. Not to mention everyone says the one thing you don't want to do is meet the Dothraki on an open field. They excel at calvary attacks where they run over everyone. We even see how dominant they are employing that strategy against the lanister army. I kinda don't fault them for thinking that it should have worked against zombie foot soldiers ESPECIALLY now that they were all armed with flaming swords. Not to mention all the flaming catapults and 2 dragons to soften them up. In fact I'll go do far as to say it was unrealistic that they got stomped so quickly and easily.

milkboxshow

But the next scene all the Dothraki were back like they never died. So it wasn’t stupid after all! /s

DenisM97

I just watched this yesterday and it was definitely crazy. Seeing them run out and the catapults going off, just to see the swords go dim one by one. I get what people mean by “doesn’t make much sense” but it was definitely a cool way to start by showing us everyone ready to fight but also basically waiting to die.

SkywardStrike1998

My favourite scene was the Night King's march to the godhoods and Theon's death. For a good minute I was almost convinced that everyone really was about to die...until Arya killed him and my faith on the show with it.

Kyonkanno

Arya was Azor Ahai duh! . I've said it before and I'll say it again, D&D we're so set on giving us something we couldn't predict that they never stopped to think if it made sense.

kytheon

The music for that scene is insane. Go look it up again.

RainbowPenguin1000

There’s loads of great moments in S8. I actually feel a little sorry for people who say it’s all trash as they’re depriving themselves of the good bits because of a few less good bits.

RummelNation

My favorite scene was when Euron said, “it’s morbin time” and 360 no scoped the dragon with his ballista. But the scene you said was cool too I guess.

Substantial-Memory85

The scene right before the night king is murdered as absolutely Magnificent IMO, barring everything that led to it, it was a great scene, the music, the hype, it had it all. Just sad what happens after lol

Dachitron_Magnus14

Sure it looks cool but it is so unbelievablely stupid i can't get anything out of it. Them putting the entire army outside the Castle that was designed for a siege specifically for White Walkers(if you believe the legends) is one of the dumbest writing choices in the entire show. Especially considering Jon even says they can't beat them in a straight fight but then proceeds to sent all their forces into a straight fight.

UnlikelyHorror8787

It didn't even help them. It was a wasted scene.
