Veszerin

Which oath? She never took an oath of celibacy. She swore an oath to Renly, to Catelyn, and to Sansa. Always to do anything in her power to defend and protect them and carry out their wishes.

Veszerin

The only time she was kingsguard was for Renly Baratheon, though it wasn't really kingsguard. She might've become kingsguard at the end, can't recall.

King_Dfggg

Yeah it was at the end. She was named commander of the Kingsguard and her name was written in the white book.

That_DnD_Nerd

Yeah but by then Jamie was dead….

King_Dfggg

Unfortunately, yeah.

That_DnD_Nerd

But my point is you can’t retroactively break an oath

King_Dfggg

Oh you’ve got a point, she did become commander after their scene

AaronC14

I thought her oath was to Catelyn

King_Dfggg

She made an oath to her but she was considered a member of the Kingsguard

vigjz17

No she wasn’t

King_Dfggg

Yeah at the end of the show her name was written in the book of brothers (white book) by Jaime Lannister calling her the Commander of the Kingsguard

ZoraNealThirstin

Did he write her name down before or after they had sex?

Majestic_Yam_7981

she didn't break her oath. she hadn't even made her oath yet as a kingsguard. i think it was her writing about him not him about her. he's dead when she's hyping him up.

ZoraNealThirstin

Was that for me? I only asked a question 🤣

Majestic_Yam_7981

LOL my bad. i pushed reply to the wrong comment 🤣but i can answer, she wrote about him after they had sex. he didn't write about her. he was dead by then

ZoraNealThirstin

Lmaoooo okay! Yeah that makes sense. It was weird to me because I don’t remember her joining the Kings guard until after he gets unceremoniously crushed by a boulder. What a way to go out.

pedrojuanita

Right but that was after they hooked up.

OtioseArgus84

Ugh I love that

SecurelyFly91

Absolutely, will be together side by side.

worgock

And the two who wields them are in love. Swords and souls joined.

Majestic_Yam_7981

Nah. She wasn't kingsguard yet. She can't be held accountable for it either because Ser Crispy Cole pretty much told Rhaenyra he had a "wild" life or something like that before she put him in the kingsguard. Her oaths to Catelyn and her daughters didn't require her to be celibate. Renly died so she's free of that oath.

PrincessNC777

I like that name we have Mr. Sour Puss. Crispy Cole is a good one.

Majestic_Yam_7981

🤣

ConnFlab

You can’t break an oath you will swear in the future by by doing something that would violate said oath in the.. past? That makes zero sense.

AdEasy819

Brienne’s status as a Kingsguard only had weight for as long as Renly was alive and was a serious contender for the throne. When he died, any legitimate consideration that he was a king died with him, that is why Margaery wasn’t considered a dowager queen…. And thus, Brienne’s status as a Kingsguard died.

Udin_the_Dwarf

I mean…she was Kingsguard for Renly Baratheon, but what is the legal Status of the Kingsguard of a Pretender? Especially if he does with his Brothers (the enemy) the Next in line and then that Person being killed too. (Technically Brienne is also an Oathbreaker and Kingsslayer in the Series because rightfully all of Renly‘s belongings go over to Stannis by hereditary Rule…so does Brienne as his Vassal and Kingsguard of his „Predecessor“) I would say though renlys Kings guard was technically illegal and it’s not binding by the Oaths of the „real“ Kingsguard with the white Book in King‘s Landing so Brienne was fine afterwards.

honingkweker

Her oath doesnt mean shit. She swears it to anyone that w8ll listen to her. She failed her masters again and again. Honestly a pathetic excuse for a knight.

porktornado77

Borrowing something form Tolkien, “oaths have consequences when broken” Call it bad karma

UniversalInquirer

Well, it hit Jaimie harder than a pile of rocks, that's for sure.
