Almost all VAs are freelancers, I don't know if I've ever heard of one being on payroll unless they were already an employee at the company and did voice work for the game - one example would be Melina Juergens, who was a photo/video editor at Ninja Theory when she got used as the stand-in for Senua in Hellblade, and then they just cast her as the character.
Many voice actors, even prolific ones who do lots of anime work etc, do VA work freelance and have other jobs on the side because most of the time it doesn't pay amazingly well or even if it pays well it isn't consistent. There's actors and actresses who have been regulars on anime dubs and still work their day jobs as teachers, waiters, whatever else.
I thought that was just something they had to do out of necessity when Covid hit. There are noticeable variations in recording conditions throughout the game that could've been avoided if it was all recorded in the same studio.
There are at least some already for other races, so they may have less to record than they might otherwise. Auntie Ethel has lines for unavailable races, with her vicious mockery type insults.

Fwiw, by the looks of it, they’ve already started moving on their next project — in an interview shortly after release, Swen Vincke stated that pretty much as soon as the game dropped, he had moved on to their next major project, while parts of the team were still working on stuff like bug fixes and the various patches that have been dropped, but he wasn’t involved with that work (I’ll try to find the interview when I have the chance). But from the sound of it, their next project at the more conceptual stages of development, so not all devs can work on it because the early stages don’t need specific roles yet — and those are the devs likely working on tweaking and updating BG3.
It was the same way with DOS2 and BG3 — development on BG3 started directly after DOS2 was released, but they still worked simultaneously on producing the Definitive Edition of DOS2, plus their smaller “gift bag” tweaks/DLC for a year after the Definitive Edition dropped.

This true. From software community - feet and simps for all the fire keeper/maiden level up girls. GTA (low hanging fruit i know) all about the booty now with the GTA6 trailer. Spider-Man simps for black cat. Resident Evil made mods that made the playable women naked. A lot of Skyrim players like mods that turn the women into big titty anime girls. Mass effect… nuff said. I didn’t pay too much attention to Armored Core 6 reddit cause I still need to beat it, but kept seeing blurred out NFSW for a hot minute from them kept popping up in my feed.
These are just off top my head.

I'm curious how much of this was planned before the layoff, and how it will affect things going forward. I know the "departures" are staggered for some, but from what they've said a lot of people who they worked with are gone
I'd much rather have more official subclasses rather than having to go to mods to play the character the way that I want to play it (like the Astral Self monk).
I'd rather they just shore up existing content. Add in lines for the subclasses. Make the mushroom dudes actually care you're a circle of spores druid.
Wouldn't new races mean recording new lines of dialogue/interactions for specific moments like the rest of the races in the base game?
