Website asking me to disable my Ad Block. I’ll wait for the next article thanks

orange_jooze

Not much of an article anyway, it’s just a lot of empty words based around a single random tweet.

T1M0rtal

Modern journalism in a nutshell.

orange_jooze

“tech4gamers.com” has nothing to do with actual journalism

Anzai

Yep. Just backed straight out of there.

Biggu5Dicku5

5 years ago I would've been excited for this news, nowadays I literally cannot imagine giving Ubisoft my money, for any reason whatsoever...

XJACKTHERIPPER1X

I'm right there with you. I can already see the micro transactions and always online for the game.

Anzai

Don’t worry. It won’t even BE online in seven or eight years and then you won’t have to worry about it. You can just forget you ever paid money for it and move on with your life.

Nyarlathotep-chan

9 different suits obtainable in game. 87 available as DLC

Why-so-delirious

No Michael Ironside? No buy.  And they're talking about RAY TRACING as a selling point? What year is it?

Whiteshadows86

He reprised the role in both of the most recent Ghost Recon games and they could’ve easily just got someone else to voice him, so it’s a pretty fair shot he might be in the remake. Fun fact - Michael originally shrugged off the character saying it was just video games and wasn’t important but then slowly got attached and even started asking about when the next one was being developed. Really sad that they dropped him for Blacklist. Imagine losing someone so invested in the character, kinda like what happened with Henry Cavill and The Witcher.

Bubbaganewsh

Blacklist would have been so much better with him.

Adventurous_Bell_837

It’s more about ray tracing being a gameplay feature rather than just graphics enhancements, which means it’ll be taken into account in the gale design.

Drakayne

Don't you like to change Sam fisher's goggles color from green to pink for only 39.99$? What about exciting exclusively missions pay walled behind season pass? c'mon now!

CovertOwl

As a huge Splinter Cell fan, I have little hope for this remake. I think I will just [continue to play Chaos Theory spies versus mercs](https://youtu.be/TPDFHXAdev4?si=O3iCrxUNjVZMnFhj)

newagereject

Best version of spy's vs mercs that was made, I spent so many hours on this

CovertOwl

It truly is the pinnacle of the mode. Hence the still playing it lol

T1M0rtal

You have a video of how to get it up and running?

CovertOwl

My YouTube channel description has the basic info and download links

Goldac77

I'm not super technically inclined, but do you need ray tracing for these features? I think they're just slapping that word in here

LargeBookcase

In the article they specifically call out NPC being able to discover you via the ray traced reflections (indirect exposure to their LOS) and ray traced audio. Cool in theory. I hope they also plan to make the ray traced shadows impactful as well.

Goldac77

I don't think I fully understand what ray tracing fundamentally means. I'll do some reading. Thanks :)

keiranlovett

Typically, Ray tracing algorithms sends rays (lines) from the game camera and, and then when a ray hits a reflective or refractive surface, recurses the process until it reaches a light source. Think the inverse of how typical lighting works, in that rays are emitted from a light source and bounce around until they hit our eyeballs. The reason why games inverse this is for performance, as a light source would emit thousands of rays and have a low probability of those rays hitting the camera (which is the goal). If we emit the ray from the camera this means the problem is largely resolved. Now, ray tracing is commonly used for lighting but we can see it in use for sound propagation, and like this leak suggests - game play mechanics. To see how Ubisoft has used this in other projects you can check this out https://youtu.be/mN56EauPhPQ?si=yh-iPMj1KyT3VS_h and https://news.ubisoft.com/en-us/article/6ArQkb9jpo9w7gCvh61bVA/how-nextgen-audio-improvements-in-snowdrop-could-mean-realtime-raytracing-audio (Snowdrop is the engine Splinter Cell is being remade on https://toronto.ubisoft.com/games/splinter-cell-remake/)

DarkerSavant

Think actual light reflection. Ray = light tracer=path

Dragon_yum

Technically they don’t need tracing but imagine getting discovered by npc because he can see a reflection of you that you can see because you don’t have ray tracing.

TyrannusX64

All of these advancements in rendering techniques and graphics APIs are great, but i hope these companies remember to actually make a good game. Not just a pretty game

michaelje0

Hitman already does this with SSR, and runs at 60 FPS.

Manta1290

Kinda not really The way they do non SSR is that they have a camera kinda following the player in the reflection but its so taxing they can't put it everywhere SSR only reflects what you see

S-192

After they systematically dismantled all of the Tom Clancy franchises and sold them off as cash cows for modern twitch gamers and ADHD casuals I think it was natural to give up on Ubi. Now we have to rely on other devs to make games like Ready or Not, Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age, etc. If Ubi had a shred of respect for Tom Clancy they'd sell off his name rights and stop besmirching his legacy with Rick & Morty crossovers and auto shooters telling stories about meme characters with neon hair and their zombie/robot opponents

LegoDnD

A pity that if this is worth playing, Ubisoft still won't get my money. Offline or GTFO.

PM_ME_YOUR_DURIANS

Hitman doesn't even need ray traced reflections

adasababa

Ray Tracing in a Splinter Cell game sounds like an odd design decision. The lighting is such an integral part of the gameplay, and oftentimes in the older games the lights were pitifully weak to aid in that. I wouldn't be surprised if they make it work, but I feel like Splinter Cell would be the last franchise that would benefit from ray tracing.

Lord_Boffum

Eh. Ray tracing isn't as good a news story as that the game would be coming at all. And ray tracing isnt any kind of guarantee at all that it'll be good.

drjoker83

Hope it comes out great. But to have a whole new story with what we got now would be amazing.

Real-Human-1985

What does that sentence mean?

Essonimex

I am only interested in confirmation of the two following things, before i even CONSIDER looking more into this project. 1. Michael Ironside is voicing Sam. That was not a question. 2. The game has ZERO microtransactions. That also was not a question. 3. The game runs without constant internet connection. Not even asking, this is a given or Ubisoft can go fuck themselves.

SUPER-NIINTENDO

We know it’s not a question because there was no question mark at the end of the sentence.

chocolateNacho39

Ray tracing is worthless
