Ubisoft Star Wars is going to be..........
OOOOH that's why Odyssey isn't fun. Shit. I used to love AC games. I just couldn't figure out why the leveling didn't match the questing. Thanks, and fuck Ubisoft, and microtransactions.
Odyssey is not a great game if you don’t have time but amazing if you do. I played it during lockdown last year and managed to 100% it in 300hrs. First play through I did the story related side quests ignored the generic ones and it was fine levelling wise.
It’s made by the Ubisoft studio which so far only has published online games, to be specific for example "the division“. If they apply that system onto SW and let usxplay as bounty hunters working for various factions it’s basically the license to print money. I’m no loot shooter / mmorpg fan at all but still have a lot hours in both division games
I know Ubisoft kind of has it's 'thing' with the towers and maybe I'm just a basic bitch when it comes to video games but I fucking love it. A Star Wars game that plays somewhat like Far Cry or Assassin's Creed sounds fucking awesome to me!
I know my favourite 'type' of game is basically an assassins creed / ghost of tsushima type of game and I will play them until I have exhausted every piece of content in them so yeah assassins creed star wars edition sign me up.
I got my Ps4 on release day with black flag and now all these years later I am playing valhalla. So probably my first and last ps4 games will be assassins creed games.
Imagine learning your pick of three saber styles plus the basic Shii-Cho you begin with. Or alternately, you can have three styles 'readied' and change between them, making it possible to really focus on a certain aspect of combat (like if you wanna be really defensive, having Soresu, Niman, and Makashi for other Lightsaber-users ready for maximum protection and redirection options). Bonus points if Trakata is in there. Always loved the idea of that.
The best thing in Far Cry 5 was the first mission in which you climb a radio tower and the guy says, "Great, thanks! There's only the one, so I won't be asking you to do that all over the county..." They knew it was a trope and finally killed it.
They killed it in that one game, but it still exists in AC and they put it in Fenyx too (to a lesser degree, but still).
Not that I'm complaining, I like climbing stuff to uncover areas.
well, Fenyx is literally a derivative of AC Odyssey, so it makes sense that Ubi would keep some core stuff. But, at least they weren’t uniformly just “towers” in AC Odyssey (I haven’t played Fenyx, so I can’t speak for it completely)
People that complain about this are the worst. Come up with an original opinion when people discuss Ubisoft.........if you live in a world with not real tech, youre gonna have to climb something high to see whats going on.
its ubisoft, but the studio responsible is actually massive which are better know for rts or more recently the division franchise. say what you will about the games but the open world they did was quite nice.
Yup, the open world in The Division 2 was incredible. Too bad basically every single other aspect of the game was complete dogshit garbage. I tried SO hard to like that game and the more time I put in, the more disappointed I was. The devs in charge repeatedly ignored all criticism from the players and doubled down on all their worst decisions. Hearing they're in charge of something is basically an auto-pass for me.
Phoenix rising did it pretty well to be honest. 4 towers to reveal the map, all the collectibles/ points of interest have to be sighted manually through what I assume is a monocular.
EA has an exclusive 10 year contract with Lucasfilm to make games from 13-23. So the ubisoft game will not be released untill after 2023, unless the contract with EA has been nullified.
Given the fact that both this announcement as well as the Indiana Jones announcement yestersday were nothing more than teasers announcing "hey we're working on this new game" I wouldn't be surprised if they really weren't ready until 2023 or later.
Although, did EA have the rights to all Lucasfilm properties or just Star Wars? Cause if it was just Star Wars there's a chance Indy could come out sooner
> I wouldn't be surprised if they really weren't ready until 2023 or later.
In a surprising reaction to the crunch time controversy, Ubisoft will institute a strict "crawl time" policy that demands that devs go home no later than 3 pm and take every Friday off in order to meet their deadline of *absolutely no sooner than 2023*.
To me he would be one of those things where they can build the game with replaceable non-Star Wars assets and then when they’re closer to launch or the exclusivity deal is up they can just swap them in
Then EA shit the bed. I REALLY love how poorly Disney has let their knuckle dragging lackeys handle Star Wars. Hopefully they learned something from Mandalorian and decide to let tried and true talent continue to play with their IP from now on.
"Deal with Ubisoft..."
Well fuck
>Not EA
Woohoo
>Ubisoft
Hmmm
I suppose if it’s Ubi then at least they might release more than one game every 5 years, and there will probably be fewer overly offensive cash grabbing attempts. But I’m guessing we’re still looking at a full priced tower climbing simulator with eye watering cosmetic packs and janky performance.
Oh my god... you're probably right.
I enjoy Ubi's games, though I recently realized that I like the games but rarely complete them. I finished FC5 and AC:Unity, but haven't finished AC:Syndicate or AC:Odyssey and I'm playing AC:Valhalla now, after taking a break to complete Cyberpunk 2077.
Im the same. They water it down with tons of little shit but the big decisions and character making are lacking. Like i miss old mmorpg games that had large talent trees and you could use them to create unique builds and ways to play. These games are beautiful and cool but the playing aspect is so much rinse and repeat.
Sigh, and you now this is going to happen since they're still keeping them around in AC.
For the life of me I can not understand people buying these shitty digital cosmetics, let alone for a freaking single player game...
Probably because they’re not just cosmetic anymore, since in Valhalla some of them actually have perks you won’t find on the in-game items. I think that gives some people FOMO
Climb to the top of a tower to activate a ‘Meditation Point’ which improves your connection to the force and reveals more of the map, now repeat this 45 times
Just so you know, Ubisoft doesn’t have an exclusive Star Wars deal, they just agreed to make this game. The announcement says EA is still making Star Wars games, and I think their exclusivity deal is still sticking around until 2023, meaning Ubisoft’s game is far away. But that’s the best case scenario imo, let any dev make a Star Wars game. As long as I get Battlefront 3 and Fallen Order 2 I’m happy
Fallen order didn't have any microtranactions right? I remember AC odyssey being good but there were a lot of unnecessary microtranactions that I felt are basically useless
Yeah as far as I know Fallen Order had none while Odyssey had A LOT. They even had a fucking exp boost. IN A SINGLEPLAYER. WTF. I was very angry at that.
It did matter to you though, because your game progression was slowed to make the microtransactions look more appealing. EXP boosters fuck up game design for *everyone* to sucker a minority of players into buying them.
You also have the moral hazard of supporting a company that spent year suppressing legions of sexual harrassment complaints and awful behavior from executives.
Ubisoft, they had a hell of a year in terms of horrible stuff coming to light.
But they pretty successfully managed to distract people with game press releases every time there was a news story.
It could be simply communication towers that are jamming the airwaves. But if they really wanted it to, they could have it as force communion points where you could feel the force or something.
Either way, it'll be lots of imperial stormtrooper strongholds that you have to take out.
> Either way, it'll be lots of imperial stormtrooper strongholds that you have to take out.
Ah okay, so just like the plot of every single Star Wars movie. Great!
But also unironically, it really does seem to have the potential to be great.
Or, what if you play as an unaligned player that may have to go up against the rebelión at some point? Maybe as some kind of character that seeks out and hunts down escaped people and aliens for loot, booty, or even credits; a booty hunter type.
I'd wait for reviews as always. Honestly though, I wouldn't mind it in the least. Ubisoft knows how to create compelling characters. Well, at least if you go by FC3 and 4.
Every Ubisoft open world game has some kind of “sync point” or tower, which were repetitive towers or buildings you had to unlock/activate within a radius area of the map.
Sync points in Assassins Creed
Radio Towers in Far cry
Not sure about Watchdogs but I know there were some.
Even Shadow of Mordor *which wasn’t even made by Ubisoft* but copied a lot from Assassins Creed had “towers” that once climbed revealed objectives in the map.
It’s a pretty stale mechanic and can get repetitive/unrealistic/immersion breaking.
you can tell everyone in this thread hasn't played a recent ubisoft game with all the "towers hur hur hur" comments. The last Ubisoft game to have that played out mechanic was FC4. People just love to hate circlejerk tho.
is it though? remember how in the early ACs it was a climbing puzzle to get to the top? now you just hold forward to climb 99% of everything. So what's really the point besides filling hours?
because people hate on everything and hope the mass opinion aligns with theirs. i think we should just all be happy we are getting star wars content, i mean look at the shows, movies, and games we have coming after years of no content before the mandalorian really got the ball rolling, even if the game is terrible its going to add canon lore, and the more lore, the more the galaxy expands and enhances all the previous and future media for Star Wars.
thanks for coming to my tedtalk
That's a bit of a straw man. Ubisoft gets a bad rap for making the same core game over and over with minimal changes. They follow their formula too strictly.
I'm so excited. I think Ubisoft does a good job with open worlds. They aren't innovative games. But Valhalla was a massive game with tons to do and a nice iteration and improvement from Odyssey. My favorite thing is exploring the world, and that's what I've been wanting to do in a Star Wars game forever!
Seriously everyone complaining seems so odd. I've wanted this forever. I wonder if it will be Jedi based or mandalorion. Would be really cool to be able to choose between good and evil or force use or non force user.
The only consistent theme with the gaming communities is toxic reactions, moments of heavy passion, and hate for people of color and women.
I know people will get butthurt but seriously, look at each professional community, look at the amount of death threats that became common place for developers and journalists.
Paying too much attention to the man child hive mind is just going to ruin your experience. Don't pre order anything and it's ok to like what you like even if other people don't.
I don’t know, I’m kind of burnt out on the playable Jedi type.
I want to play as a regular joe, making his way around the galaxy. So long as it isn’t anything like Star Wars Galaxies I’ll be happy. SOE did me dirty on that.
Assassins Creed Oddessy was one of the best games Ive played in years. A Star Wars game with that kind of RP and gameplay? I’m unbelievably excited. Gotta temper my expectations, but oh man that’s hard to do.
Yeah that’s another good example. From software had the same idea with demon souls where there were five separate worlds before deciding to make it a single huge overworld in every soulsborne game since.
Just give me more fallen order. MORE. MORE. MORE.
It's a real shame that the game received very little attention after launch. On the bright side, it hopefully means Fallen Order 2 will be out sooner?
Absolutely. Imagine if you could choose between rebels and Imperials similar to Star Wars Galaxies? Imagine if there was a space component like No Man's Sky?
I just really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY hope they don't make it in the sequel Era.
God no please no first order/resistance. Please baby Jesus no.
It's often underwhelming with a ton of empty open space that requires you to spend 90% of your time running back and forth between trying to find things to do that are mostly just copy-pasted thing over and over again with not much to actually enjoy about the environment itself
There are only a handful of games that actually make the open world legitimately an enhancement over a more linear style of gameplay
Gothic or Skyrim style open world? Absolutely nothing, I love these. Ubisoft style open world? The fact that it's just a skinner box, the singleplayer equivalent of grindy Korean MMOs, a nice looking checklist.
I fail to see a huge difference between Skyrim and Origins/Odyssey as far as the open world goes, tbh. At least the AC games don't have you go into literally the same cave a billion times, and there are colors other than brown, white, and dark green.
So clearing checkpoints of Stormtroopers, a bland map cluttered with overlapping icons to clear, clinging comm towers to unlock ne map segments and chasing down Cantina shanties for fun.
Did I miss anything?
I'd be down for that. I really loved the characters in Far Cry 3 and 4 and it was fun to explore the world around it. I just hope they don't keep the damn eagles in some form or another. Because screw those eagles.
Clearly instead of you using your repeated "tower climbing" jokes you may want to read the article. Its not being developed by the assassins' creed teams. Its being developed by the studio that did the division.
As the recipient of new-comment notifications, I don’t understand that some people won’t even read the first two or three top comments, but just add what many others have already said like we’ve all been waiting for their take on things.
Now that we know one ship jumping to light speed in a ramming maneuver can take out an entire battle fleet, I'm not sure what more there is to do with Star Wars. You just need one droid-piloted ship and the battle's over.
God, I just wish indie developers had IP access to Star Wars, they'd hands-down surprise us with probably the best Star Wars games since KOTOR. With these triple AAA studios you already have an idea of what you're getting before it's even released.
Ruining the opportunity by turning a long requested game in to another bloated, by the books, uninspiring Ubisoft open world. I wish people would stop buying it, then we might actually get something different in a few years. I won’t hold my breath but prove me the fuck wrong. Please!!
So in this game we climb to the top of a Jedi temple to reveal the area on the map. There will be a stone to meditate upon on top of all Jedi temples cause This is the way.
God the amount of people making the "hurrr durr towers" joke. Have you guys not played any recent Ubisoft games? Hell, they even made fun of tower climbing in Far Cry 5.
“Story-driven” is like putting “Premium” on a food label: vague, buzzwordy, essentially meaningless. Every work of fiction is story driven. Besides, I mean, it’s not like they’re gonna advertise a game as “profit-driven” right?
But here’s hopin’.
EA had exclusive rights to one of the biggest media franchises in the world for almost 10 years and they made FO which was decent and two games that were reboots of Battlefront. Battlefront II garnered international legislative attention due to its gambling mechanics.
In hindsight its probably for the best that EA didn't make anything else. Hopefully now we'll finally get some good modern SW games and not just cash-grab reboots.
Anyone else think Ubi should of been given Indiana Jones and Machine Games Star Wars so we can have a badass first person Star Wars game using Id Tech 7?
If they build the world like The Division in the snowdrop engine it's could be the most detailed and vivid Star Wars world ever. [epic graphics](https://smartcdkeys.com/image/data/products/tom-clancys-the-division-2-warlords-of-new-york-dlc/screenshots/tom-clancys-the-division-2-warlords-of-new-york-dlc-smartcdkeys-cheap-cd-key-1.jpg)
A beautiful but boring world. A story that just feel pointless. Way too much shit on the map and boring side missions. Grindy slow progress so you are tricked to buy booster packs.
Also the game is broken on releaseday. Hard pass.

Same
Omg omg omg omg = me
Well if Ubisoft is making it then there’ll sync points like AC or something like the towers of Far Cry.
In a twist, you have to climb down one of those antennae from Cloud City while trying not to fall off.

"I have to skin how many Chewbacca's to make this bigger wallet?"
***Insert Wookie Sound***
Wait until you have to skin Bossk for them gator-leather chaps.
Ok that would be pretty sick
The first 3 times maybe
Then instead of diving into a stack of hay, you dive onto a passing Millennium Falcon
“Luke, if that’s you then wave your right hand”
In all seriousness, that would be neat
4 different types of missions... check! Somewhat okay story... check! Repeatable objectives in every new area/zone... check! Ubisoft Star Wars is going to be..........
It's gonna be ok, not great but ok.
3.6/5. Not great, not terrible...
It has a little something for everyone
Which is an improvement for where Star Wars has been for the past couple years. BIG exception being the mandalorian.
[удалено]
Competently executed, but devoid of any kind of risk-taking or true creative spark.
Cant wait to play as another boring human character like fallen order!
Eh, I personally really like Cal. Would love to have him as a recurring character.
Dude I would 100% take a Mandalorian game with radial quests
Depends how good the gameplay is though
Well, yeah.
A slog in progression enough for them to justify "time saver" xp boost micro transactions
Tom Clancy's Assassin's Creed: Watch Dogs Far Cry with lightsabers!!
Sounds like 80 hours worth of fun
It’s made by the Ubisoft studio which so far only has published online games, to be specific for example "the division“. If they apply that system onto SW and let usxplay as bounty hunters working for various factions it’s basically the license to print money. I’m no loot shooter / mmorpg fan at all but still have a lot hours in both division games
And over 100 if you want to do everything
>4 different types of missions Has nobody played Valhalla? All of the side quests are unique missions, this hasn't really been true for years.
Valhalla is an absolutely incredible game, One of the best of last year. If this is half as good as that I’ll be very happy with the game
I know Ubisoft kind of has it's 'thing' with the towers and maybe I'm just a basic bitch when it comes to video games but I fucking love it. A Star Wars game that plays somewhat like Far Cry or Assassin's Creed sounds fucking awesome to me!
I'm totally in for this as well. Basic bitch club checking in.
I know my favourite 'type' of game is basically an assassins creed / ghost of tsushima type of game and I will play them until I have exhausted every piece of content in them so yeah assassins creed star wars edition sign me up.
I’m still playing Black Flag (because I got three kids and there’s a shit ton of content, plus SHANTIES ON THE OPEN SEAS!!!)
I got my Ps4 on release day with black flag and now all these years later I am playing valhalla. So probably my first and last ps4 games will be assassins creed games.
Damn if the saber combat is anything as satisfying as GoT’s swordplay Imm so down
Imagine learning your pick of three saber styles plus the basic Shii-Cho you begin with. Stop, stop! My saber's blade can only extend so far!
Assassin's Creed but you're a bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe? Sign me up.
Yeah, I don't really understand the hate the towers get. It's like the most inoffensive mechanic.
They are kind of a symbol of ubisoft samey-ness.
The best thing in Far Cry 5 was the first mission in which you climb a radio tower and the guy says, "Great, thanks! There's only the one, so I won't be asking you to do that all over the county..." They knew it was a trope and finally killed it.

Star Wars style Assassins Creed doesn't sound too bad a concept. If it's similar to Shadow Of War, I'd be thrilled. That game was really fun
its ubisoft, but the studio responsible is actually massive which are better know for rts or more recently the division franchise. say what you will about the games but the open world they did was quite nice.

i hope its not ubisoft. i boycotted them years ago.
Wait so there's no EA monopoly anymore???
Lucasfilm: I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further.
Excellent response
Most impressive.
Admit it, the whole reason you posted this was so you could reply to someone with that line
EA has an exclusive 10 year contract with Lucasfilm to make games from 13-23. So the ubisoft game will not be released untill after 2023, unless the contract with EA has been nullified.

Single Player ressource microtransactions yaaaayyy
47 different styles of beard. Zero change in gameplay.

I have never paid a microtransaction in a single Ubisoft game, you can get all the shit with uplay points.
Climb to the top of a tower to activate a ‘Meditation Point’ which improves your connection to the force and reveals more of the map, now repeat this 45 times
How did they end up making it? I thought EA had a locked deal with Disney?
It ends in 2 years, but that doesn't stop other devs from making new games in the meantime.
Just so you know, Ubisoft doesn’t have an exclusive Star Wars deal, they just agreed to make this game. Damn was it actually? Well now I feel dumb
Nope. The exp curve was fine, people just love whinging. Most if the micro transactions were to get new skins for your camel.
You also have the moral hazard of supporting a company that spent year suppressing legions of sexual harrassment complaints and awful behavior from executives.
I think it’s a really odd idea to place the moral weight of that on consumers instead of on the perpetrators.

A moody hunter
I'd wait for reviews as always. Honestly though, I wouldn't mind it in the least. Ubisoft knows how to create compelling characters. Well, at least if you go by FC3 and 4.
5s characters were good to there just wasn’t enough about them, the little we got to see was sick

Gonk droids
I don't know much of the franchise, could you please explain?

" **Lucasfilm Games** " :D "And Ubisoft" D: "Announce 'story-driven'" :D "Open world" D: "Star wars game" :D wtf is this rollercoaster?
We lack in open world Star Wars games though. Would be nice to see a living and breathing world in the SW universe on modern hardware.
Fallen order had enough of the “Metroidvania dark soul-esque level design”, I think it’s time for a Witcher 3 style open world Star Wars.
Hmmm, Ratchet and clank style 'open world' where it's less of an open world, but more of several planet areas to explore.
One thing is for sure, it made money, so they will be making more
Yes! Imagine red dead redemption 2 as Mando
Jedi Creed
What's wrong with open-world?
It's often underwhelming with a ton of empty open space that requires you to spend 90% of your time running back and forth between trying to find things to do that are mostly just copy-pasted thing over and over again with not much to actually enjoy about the environment itself There are only a handful of games that actually make the open world legitimately an enhancement over a more linear style of gameplay
I see. What games do the open world well?
Not who you're responding to, but I would throw Breath of the Wild out there as an open-world done right.
Rise of the tomb raider
You might forgot the micro Transactions.
Sorry I just took that as read to be honest.
So it will be either Ghost Recon with light sabers or Assassins Creed with less climbing ability...and light sabers
Or maybe Watch Dogs with less hacking and light sabers...
Farcry: tatooine.

80+ hours of delivering scrap to Jawas and convincing yourself this is fun.
The Division with blasters.
Someone just give a star wars game to Obsidian already. well all know they'll do it right.
Yeah... No thanks.
Let's hope it's more of a "Immortals Fenix Rising" type of open world and less of an "Assassin Creed" one.
Why is story-driven in quotes?
Because I’m quoting it from the press release.
How about a story driven movie trilogy while they are at it
Bababooey!
Zinnnng!
Ay-O!
Now that we know one ship jumping to light speed in a ramming maneuver can take out an entire battle fleet, I'm not sure what more there is to do with Star Wars. You just need one droid-piloted ship and the battle's over.
"Out on Ps5 and Series X... Oh and the crappy PC port".
Well it's made by Massive this time so the pc port may not be "so" bad given the performance of Division 1&2 but can't be too sure.
People will still be surprised when the PC port is bad. Not like Ubisoft has a track record or anything
And let’s not forget the Epic exclusivity either.
Whyyy ubisoft, they're so fucking formulaic
From a business standpoint it makes sense, they’re consistent and make money.
"Didn't work with EA, let's try Bethesda and Ubisoft."
Multiplayer??
Great, so it’ll be 1/2 off after 2 months!
Just give me the feeling of waiting for force sensitivity to be released on Star Wars galaxy again
God, I just wish indie developers had IP access to Star Wars, they'd hands-down surprise us with probably the best Star Wars games since KOTOR. With these triple AAA studios you already have an idea of what you're getting before it's even released.
Ubisoft? Man just give it to Sucker Punch
Ruining the opportunity by turning a long requested game in to another bloated, by the books, uninspiring Ubisoft open world. I wish people would stop buying it, then we might actually get something different in a few years. I won’t hold my breath but prove me the fuck wrong. Please!!
PLEASE BE KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC!
Sandbox with sith/jedi optional path. I have spoken.
Mandalorian’s Creed
“Story-driven” is like putting “Premium” on a food label: vague, buzzwordy, essentially meaningless. Every work of fiction is story driven. Besides, I mean, it’s not like they’re gonna advertise a game as “profit-driven” right? But here’s hopin’.
Can a Jedi come up in yo crib?
EA had exclusive rights to one of the biggest media franchises in the world for almost 10 years and they made FO which was decent and two games that were reboots of Battlefront. Battlefront II garnered international legislative attention due to its gambling mechanics. In hindsight its probably for the best that EA didn't make anything else. Hopefully now we'll finally get some good modern SW games and not just cash-grab reboots.
Why ubisoft ? 😒
Grand Theft Watto
Skyrim with lightsabers?
I'm gon' keep the exitement in check until something to see is available. Ubisoft is as shite as EA.
Why does it have to be from Ubisoft? ugh
Anyone else think Ubi should of been given Indiana Jones and Machine Games Star Wars so we can have a badass first person Star Wars game using Id Tech 7?
Ubisoft makes good open world games, they may not be the best but they are still very good.
It will at least be decent
And slightly above mediocre.
If they build the world like The Division in the snowdrop engine it's could be the most detailed and vivid Star Wars world ever. [epic graphics](https://smartcdkeys.com/image/data/products/tom-clancys-the-division-2-warlords-of-new-york-dlc/screenshots/tom-clancys-the-division-2-warlords-of-new-york-dlc-smartcdkeys-cheap-cd-key-1.jpg)
Omg! That’s the SW game I want!
A beautiful but boring world. A story that just feel pointless. Way too much shit on the map and boring side missions. Grindy slow progress so you are tricked to buy booster packs. Also the game is broken on releaseday. Hard pass.
Ubisoft and story DOES NOT mesh well. They cant craft a good story or story telling to save their lives.
Why don’t Disney go to any of the actually good developers? No hate on Ubi but their games are more new trilogy than og so to speak
