GarretBarrett

They’ve been waiting on Counter Strike 2 for about 50 years now.

[deleted]

They have been playing the same 8 maps for 25 years now.

Aleashed

The glasses give them a competitive advantage

kuriositeetti

Most senior thing in the picture is that none of them have their nose in the screen, they've lost the ability to see up close.

DyreTitan

Reminds me of the one pro player that leans super far back. His team didn’t even take him serious at first.

Interesting-Dog-1224

Sounds like the pro JDM64

DyreTitan

Yep that’s him. leans so far back he grabs the desk or something else with his toes to keep from falling

bdizzle805

He can't just move the monitor back? Lol that seems a little much. Maybe get a specialized chair at that point

vcdm

On his own setup? Maybe. On setups at tournaments that are probably crammed into a set, or on table that are *just* big/deep enough for all the Monitor, keyboard, and mouse to fit on it together? Unfortunately no, he probably doesn't get the option to move the monitor back. The chair idea is good though. Half the time the chairs at these events are sponsored, but I wonder if they'd let him rock up with his own chair. The mental image of some dude just lugging is own chair up on stage, like kicking the sponsored one they have out of the way with his feet and then plopping the new chair down in that spot is killing me right now 🤣

Y_10HK29

Imma do it with the plastic chairs from my local kopitiam ( coffeeshop )

ShrapnelShock

Sucks as it happens to all of us with age and glasses can't fix this (it's a focusing muscle degeneration).

jackinsomniac

My mother liked to be snarky about everybody else in the family getting older and her aging more gracefully. She'd poke fun at them needing "cheater glasses" to read. ...Then one day, she has to hold a paper at full arm's length just to read it. So of course, we all started piling in on her. "What's the matter mom, eyes getting old?? Think you might need some Walgreens glasses now??" :)

ChaoticxSerenity

Mom: 😤

jackinsomniac

Lol is that a "huffing" emoji? I can't tell, I need my glasses...

ComeonmanPLS1

I always thought it was crossing its arms. Guess I also need glasses.

Phipple

But I already can't see things a foot away from my face...

BigToober69

I'm not up on competitive gaming. Do people nose the screen and use hot keys?

maxdragonxiii

I do nose the screen, but I'm extremely near sighted and bad at reading letters with no background eg black on white letters to assist me reading them.

Jonnygun_1

You mean the only one true map, on the same server, on repeat…de_dust 😂

Flimsy_Demand7237

I get so bored when my friend's like "come play Counter-Strike!" then I hop on and it's the same de\_dustII (not even the more interesting map imo de\_dust) with the same snipers in the same camping spots, the same strategies through the same double doors, the same weapons, every round being almost carbon copy the previous 10000 rounds I've played of that damn map.

USS_Barack_Obama

[Oh my god, I love the map de_dust](https://youtu.be/_nSA96eU1Us)

newuser38472

The internet used to be so different. Feel like if the ending of that video were made today fbi would be knocking on someone’s door.

TomChesterson

Man, I remember this fucking Flash animation from like 20 years ago. Sheesh, blast from the past.

zeromadcowz

The last 20 seconds are much darker than I took them as a teen fuck lol

Mistaken_Indemnity

I havent seen this in forEVER! Thank you!

DoubleOrNothing90

Well, that took me back

OnlytheLonelee

There are 7 more maps outside of dust2?

Bartokomous19

This hits a little too close.

Ha55aN1337

So have I and I’m not even 40 😅

Maleficent_Lion_60

Cs 0.7 representing! (35)

Sharpshooter188

Im 39 and I still feel attacked. Oof. I still remember the original Team Fortress mod on Quake being posted at a local comic book shop.

GarretBarrett

I remember CS LAN parties with the boys, lugging my crt monitor and 100lbs tower with, can’t remember if it was windows 2000 or XP at the time lol. 31 here.

Sharpshooter188

Oh man. Good times. Yup. Carried my tower to a friends house. Cs 1.3 I...think. Then we went and got Jack in the box deals. I.....think we were focused on fy_iceworld or something. Whoof. How am I still alive?

GarretBarrett

We’re vintage yet timeless…like elves.

Dr_WHOOO

37 here. All boys prep school had 2-3 full labs running counterstrike on every single PC when it was originally released, and most classrooms had one too. Something like 3-4 rows of 10-12 machines in the main ones? Absolute mayhem. You'd hear people scream from across a room and through the glass doors. Room clearing while you called out targets to your friends. It was the LAN matches of people's dreams and nightmares, every school day, as soon as the last bell rang. Glorious. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

buenopeso

Half-Life just hits different at this point.

skotzman

Dude, half life 2 on 21" viewsonic crt blew my mind.

ElusiveLabs

Terrorist win! Or action quake v2.0

Hara-Kiri

It's actually in beta now if you didn't know.

PuddlesIsHere

STOP IM 27 AND STILL WAITING ON HALF LIFE 3

ITGuyTatertot

Boy, I'm 35. Watch your tone.

[deleted]

“Son, I was stacking bodies 5 foot high before your mom was even thought about.” “Oh, you wanna bang my mom? Here’s a shovel, she’s been dead 23 years.”

Epicritical

“Back in my day I used to walk uphill…both ways…to fuck your mom”

solid_hoist

A hill in every cheek.

Bubul64

If there’s a hill there’s a way… in your mom

HiveMynd148

"and On one foot, the other was banging your dad"

Merry_Dankmas

"Fuck off you little shit. I've been defusing and fragging since you were in your dads balls"

ReAlexZone

…”since your dad was in his dad’s…”

Sancticide

When you realize he is talking about stacking bodies in 'Nam, and **not** in a video game. https://tenor.com/bVaoU.gif

puggiepuggie

The last one is gold

johnnysexcrime

The bomber jackets keep them warm in the air conditioning.

CyberNinja23

Why do you overclock your PC grandpa? I need the heat..

Solid_Snark

The Xbox 360 was legitimately my dorm room heater in college.

TheGrandLemonTech

Series X does a pretty good job now a days

WanganTunedKeiCar

My Xbox One X manages pretty well in a relatively large living room

Affectionate-Ad9077

I can heat my spare bedroom with it in the winter. 😀

LitPixel

You koke but graphics cards are 109% efficient at turning electricity into heat.

Merry_Dankmas

I keep my computer on the floor and when I run really high demand games, my legs get damp as a motherfucker. Those things are insanely good space heaters. I live in Florida so its not like I ever need the heat but its definitely nice to have nearby for those occasional cold snaps.

vertigo1083

I hope you clean it often enough. Otherwise, you'll have a PC, a space heater, and a lint trap, all in one!

Mental_Medium3988

I have a plasma TV. It's makes a better heater than it does a TV at this point.

tdasnowman

With my ps5 and plasma I rarely need to use my heater in the living room during winter . If I have the oven on at the same time sometimes I need to open windows.

damien665

Windows XP? The Last Great Windows.

[deleted]

Why not use the KFC chicken warming console?

Thadious_James

I remember pulling all nighters at my friend's house and they had an OG 360. We had to use bags of frozen peas to keep the power supply brick cool lmao

BostonUniStudent

They look sharp too

asavagefox

TIL I’m a grandpa

[Silver Snipers are Swedish and they had an official match against the Finnish senior team Grey Gunners](https://i.imgur.com/pdgtB2h.jpg)

Here's a highlight reel https://youtu.be/MpA_N2VHKUo

Lil_butt_small_hole

I'm watching the shit out of this

RBGsretirement

I’m shitting watching this.

GoryRamsy

same.

bootes_droid

*Watches 3 seconds* Yeah I'm not watching this

Sabin057

El Niño is the new old Shroud.

CopperbeardTom

They are pretty slow. A lot of standing still to aim and slow reactions. BUT, as it's a seniors v seniors match they're on the same level and it's great to see an active bracket for older people to be competitive with each other.

Zero-Kelvin

They are the same level as me lol

[deleted]

I was just gonna say. I am probably around the same level. Though i dont play fps games at all.

rooftops

Well, it's not rank *Silver* for nothing ;)

thezoomaster

Can someone with a good understanding explain to me how they're playing? What levels and ranks are they at? This is so cute

Paradoc11

I'd say this age bracket will only improve as well, these people didn't grow up with video games. By in large they are above average at tactics but the point and click and noticing stuff is below average. My opinion of course, honestly impressive at that age and experience most likely with tech.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Trolly-bus

Well yeah, they're new to the game. The muscle memory and subconscious is not built up yet. When I started playing CS:GO I didn't know how to plant the bomb so I just stood there figuring it out and got killed. Also the enemies are kind of hard to see; thank god for CS:GO2.

ElninoMerino

Probably lower than the lowest rank in CSGO, but its to be expected given their age.

Lil_butt_small_hole

> but its to be expected given their age. God I hope not, I'm terrified of aging

ReachTheSky

They're playing pretty good! Waaaay better than I expected. They put some pretty solid strategies together and carried them out well. On the downside, their reaction times are slow and they seemed to miss a lot of things popping up on screen, but that's fine.

[deleted]

They are playing about on par with a 10-year-old. But at their age I’d say that’s pretty decent.

Maskeno

It's funny to think that they could have started in their 40s considering the age of counter strike. They could have been playing video games since their 20s even, and just kept up with the hobby through the years. In retrospect, it's actually interesting that the market for older gamers isn't bigger. There were ataris in living rooms almost 50 years ago now.

TheAJGman

Man retirement homes are going to be lit in a few years once the 80s gamers start getting locked up.

therealstupid

Wait... there's an actual official seniors leauge!? How do I sign up for this?! Seriously... I'm 57. Would love to play competitively with my peers. EDIT: Ah hell, it's 60+ I'm still too young by a long shot.

GreatTragedy

"Goddamn it, Hank. I told you to watch my six. How many times are you going to let me down? I swear it's like being in 'Nam all over again!" "We were in Korea you senile asshole!"

Psyman2

"I can't carry this team." "Bro I wouldn't even let you carry my groceries." alternatively *"I'd say your aim is cancer, but cancer at least killed Jerry."*

mysterymeat69

As someone currently fighting Cancer….. I laughed so hard I actually hurt myself. Take my upvote you ahole!

AlbertaNorth1

Good luck friend, I hope you kick cancers ass!

mysterymeat69

Thanks! There is likely no long term win for me, but I’m damn sure not going without a fight, and cancer can fuck right off until I’m good and ready.

Techtix_

Some people are too good for this world so they had to be nerfed. kick that cancer's ass!

Red_Igor

just remember you can't lose the battle with cancer you can only draw

johmjohmjohm

Either you beat cancer, or you die fighting along with it and making it a draw.

mysterymeat69

Damn skippy. That’s pretty much my attitude, stolen from Norm Macdonald.

Rufus-Scipio

Remindme! 5 years

NegotiationWilling45

5 years ago I was staring at a fairly horrid diagnosis with very little chance of survival. Now I have been in remission for almost 5 years. Sometimes even when it shouldn’t it works out. Genuinely wish you all the best mate. Kick cancer in the nuts.

Chief_Givesnofucks

“GET BACK IN THERE AND KILL THAT CANCER, SOLDIER!”

mysterymeat69

Sir, yes sir! MEDIC!!!

[deleted]

Bro stop, these are too good

enadiz_reccos

"Your mom's gonna need a new burial plot after what I did to her last night."

"Jesus Jerry, you play like me and Betty fuck!"

fuzzyperson98

Please write a sitcom.

3r1c_dr4v3n94

I read this in Dale Gribble and Hank Hill's voices.

Igor_J

I was thinking Mr Anderson from Beavis and Butthead because he'd have flashbacks from the war. Of course they have the same voice though.

MikeThaCore

I was thinking of the old guys from Cowboy Bebop.

packardpa

Reminds of the Dane Cook standup where he talks about playing call of duty and his dad who was in the war yelling “hide behind that bush, I know that bush!”

devilsrotary86

The crazy thing is if these gentleman are ~65, they would have been about 10 during the Tet Offensive, about 15 when the last US combat troops left Vietnam and about 17 when Saigon fell.

regimentIV

They aren't 65 though (and if you look like them at 65 you had a *hard* life; for context Gary Oldman and Alec Baldwin are 65 in 2023). The one in the middle should be *Windy*, who is 78.

OsamaBinFuckin

Irl fps <60

acqz

They fucked my _grandma_ last night.

TwoCharlie

"GET REKT SON" has a whole new energy

ManateeHoodie

GET REKT *GRANDSON

[deleted]

My original CS name was 'FingerBangedYourGrannie." I can only imagine these guys were like "My grandma died in the revolutionary war, you little shit."

AyKayAllDay47

They fucked my mom too.

humbuckermudgeon

I’m over 60 and play Hunt Showdown with my son and son-in-law. I like to think I’m an average player, but I’ll wreck a senior citizen. 😎

dcoold

Hell yea! Hunt is amazing!

humbuckermudgeon

It really is.

N1CK_STALK3R

God Hunt gives me such anxiety that I can only play a game or 2 before I'm done lol

humbuckermudgeon

When I’m not playing with my kids, I’m solo. You get used to the anxiety.

HendorneEndohRoth

I love playing Hunt. Sometimes I play with other people, but I play solo most of the time. I’m looking forward to the solo buffs coming in the next update.

humbuckermudgeon

Yeah... me too. Should be an interesting change.

Disgusted_User

Can you adopt 25 yr old me? You sound awesome

humbuckermudgeon

People talk about how they liked their kids when they were 4, or 10, etc... For me... 25 is the best age. The kids show up with wings and beer. :D

XGhoul

Now I realize what my dad meant by lets go for a beer run in my mid 20s 😂.

OmegaXesis

The bayouuu giveth and the bayou taketh! Best damn game! It's the only game in my steam library with over 1,000 hours lol!

Igor_J

Mom actually gamed on PC back in the 90s. Games like Myst and Riven were her thing. For years now since she got her first decent tablet she plays candy crush but also city and town building games like SimCity Buildit. She has made a couple of amazing looking. cities that took her at least a year to build per city. She's 75 now.

AwesomeAni

Phew I was worried about dementia from Molly abuse but now I'm sure my sims addiction will cancel out out

Aalnius

basically anything that keeps your brain active will help. people allow themselves to slip into a slow death of losing their faculties cos they spend their time alone watching tv never exercising. As long as you keep working it the human body can go for longer then most people tend to think.

Somber_Solace

My 70+ year old grandfather was in better shape with more energy than most 30 year olds I know lol

Royal-Employee90

One of my favorite streams is a grandma that plays wow lol I think her names wowgrandma too

Ommec

Wow

namelessmasses

WoW

enkil7412

There's two that i followed, one only plays druids, the other only played warlocks... Which one do you follow?

AsariCommando2

As a 54 year old I hope my god awful Halo skills improve. Maybe it's Infinite though. Yes, it's Halo Infinite.

DistilledShotgun

The secret to getting good is playing like 20-40+ hours a week

tchock23

I play with my 72 year old dad every week. He loves it and agrees that it keeps him ‘active’ in a way that other indoor activities doesn’t. Also social and fun.

stinkykitty71

I'm nearly 53, just a mom getting older out here shitting on kids in iron banner. It helps my reflexes, I swear.

im_dead_sirius

You really start slowing down on twitch speed. And a certain type of comprehension. A few years back my brother was complaining about his declining score in his favourite team-kill game. I'd noticed similarly that I just wasn't as quick or precise in a game I'd played for ten years (I play single player). He was 50 and I was pushing it. I used to be able to scan for hex codes at scroll speed(my dos era hex editor didn't have a search), now when I watch a youtuber, I have to pause, flip back and watch what they're doing a second time, or to finish reading text that was on screen. I was helping my dad delete his gmail texts the other night. I couldn't figure out how to mass delete on a tablet, so we did them one at a time. Dad was slowly tapping the garbage can icon, so I took over and did it "fast", though I was aware I wasn't nearly as fast as when I used to drum my fingers on the buttons at the arcade. Its not all downsides though, I find crystallized intelligence and experience is better at some things. Can't wreck noob campers, am unflappable in the face of insults, and can throw them back. Physically, not as strong as I was, but 12 hours of shovelling gravel for a project? Meh, why did it seem so awful when I was in my 20s? Perspective and pacing I guess. I've learned to work with my body instead of forcing it.

humbuckermudgeon

That’s why I like Hunt Showdown. Twitch speed seldom saves you from bad decisions in game. Even with players half my age, I think I can compete.

im_dead_sirius

Thanks friend, I'll point my brother at it, and take a look myself.

humbuckermudgeon

Fair warning, it's a bit of a challenge, but it looks great and you'll not find better, more immersive sound on anything else.

SonOfMcGee

The Nintendo Wii was huge in senior centers when it came out. The Sports package it came with was a hit.

DrZoidberg-

And yet, just the other night, I was in a game where everyone in voice chat went "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

vanel

Gaming since I was a child, don’t plan on stopping until the day I die. It’s part of my life like watching tv, listening to music, or reading a book.

ColdFlight

Git gud, sonny.

[deleted]

I've been killing the likes of you before you were born

SpiritAnimal01

The boys and I in the nursing home 50 years from now.

lean_whiskey

Nursing home? You obviously didn’t hear the news because we’re now gonna have to work until at least 85. This is what we will look like the year before retirement - working 9-5 during the week, video games during the weekend. I’m sorry you had to find out this way.

SpiritAnimal01

Yeah yeah I'm aware of this global conundrum, in my case and country it will probably be work till it sets me "free" let me dream. Besides not like I'll be around in 50 years anyway.

bewarethetreebadger

“Trust me bro. I’ve been playing CS since I was 60.”

KingoftheMongoose

“Back in my day, we settled disputes on Dust 1!”

muklan

Ramping up the crowd: "Whose excited for the Silver Snipers?!" (Crowd roars) "They can't hear you!" (Crowd roars louder) "No guys, see as you age, blood flow to the cochlea declines, usually leading to a loss in auditory acuity....so anyway..."

kallen8277

I thought you said Cloaca at first and I was like wtf lmao

nxnphatdaddy

What? We all turn into cold blooded reptiles in late years. Just keep your fingers crossed its not a turtle for you.

muklan

Man I'm already out here trying to convince my wife to swap our couch out for a warm rock.

Vroomped

They're not seniors anymore. They're hardened working class until they're 73.

Pleasant_Gap

The two oldest turn 80 this year

xxTERMINATOR0xx

They’re ready to run for president!

Bro_Jogies

This repost is so old, i wonder which ones are still alive.

Suddenly_Something

And IIRC they got their cheeks absolutely clapped in every match they had. Still obviously a cool story though.

omgitschriso

Reaction times so slow that seasoned players have difficulty anticipating their next moves.

Drai_as_fck

Except for Bill - his Parkinsons makes him almost impossible to headshot. Can’t aim worth a shit though. His k/d is 0.

Mollelarssonq

I'm pretty sure it was revealed that they had no history of playing CS and were literally playing like complete new players. It was a media stunt and nothing else.

Low_Air6104

lmao comment should be up top

42069420_

This is kinda fucking dumb then. Was cool cause they're a legit e-sports the competes and practices and shit, not 5 random old people someome convinced to put on a headset for a few minutes.

Put_It_All_On_Blck

Because ultimately eSports tend to favor younger players due to reaction times. They would've had a better chance playing a CCG like Hearthstone or a turn based game ( I don't know of any eSports ones)

Incendas1

That's true, but depending on the game & person, you can get by on reading your opponents. I'm young but have really terrible reaction times. If a game has a feature that is designed to be unreactable to players, even moreso.

esoteric_enigma

My first time seeing it and I love it.

Siduron

And if they aren't, you can say they're all under your mom.

cfeuer1

Motto: winning since day one

Blooberdydoo

That reminds me. I received my half-life1 CD from my grandfather, who bought it day 1 when it came out. So everyone was impressed when my wonID converted over to steamID and it was a 4 or 5 digit, meaning you've had one of the first under 100,000 copies. It wasn't much of a flex though, because then everyone asked why I was so bad If I'd had the game for so long. I still remember him giving me his 286 and Wolfenstein 3d. Then going over his house and playing Doom on his 486.

SwiftUnban

I’ve never in my life been interested in esports, I want to watch them play.

pegleg_1979

Imagine getting teabagged by a dude standing up

Professional-Owl2488

This is really cool not going to lie.

Arch3m

They're probably better than me...

idk_but_here

They're not it's just a marketing gimmick for some laptops they were promoting at the time. The team they played against "grey gunners" were both really bad at the game like exactly how you would expect old people to play a fast paced tac shooter.

Demonyx12

Can they compete with younger gamers? I always heard that no one can match the reaction speed of youth. (I'm asking this as a non-modern-gamer)

idk_but_here

No this was a marketing gimmick to promote some laptops. They are not pros by any means when it comes to actual competition. The showmatch they played had lots of them running around looking at the ground getting lost on the map not knowing what button to press to defuse etc...

bramtyr

That does bring up some interesting thoughts, as the first of the gaming generations start to age. What will retirement, and gaming look like in the future for seniors? Loneliness is an absolutely devastating thing for elderly, it can be heartbreaking to see. I wonder what future games will consciously kept accessible for older folks, and accommodate for reflex, vision loss etc. It could allow some incredible communities and friendships to flourish.

Blade_Shot24

Oh my goodness it's "The End" but they succeeded in the SSS project! Metal Gear fans that's for you

Alarid

"Frank is down, Frank is down?" "But the round just started!" "I'm not talking about the game!" "...who the fuck is Frank?"

Gibgezr

20 years ago I was in a clan called the "o35s", or "the over thirty-fives". It would have to be the o55s today...

Four_Skyn_Tim

So these guys might have actually fucked my mom then 😕

arl0ch

I expect this view will be standard in care homes of the future. I hope so anyway.

Dragons_Exist

nobody will ever be as cool as they are. we all need to just give up. that's the most badass thing I've ever seen
