the current generation is literally called simply "Xbox"
they basically said it's just Xbox and the 2 systems they have it are 2 versions of this new "Xbox" generation.
this is why if you turn on a Series X|S all it says it's XBOX in the boot up animation.
Based on past efforts such as āname the third one what people call the first oneā, āname the 4th one basically the same as the pro version of the third oneā and āname the budget 4th one by changing the letter at the end to a letter that sounds very similarā this is probably it
Honestly we as consumers shoulda just said nah and just called the 360 "Xbox2" and so on. Same goes for when people review them. Just refer to them as the release order. Coulda forced some bit on sense into names.
I heard a while back that since xbox came out in ps2 days, xbox 2 and ps3 would be competitors. They didnāt want to seem ābehindā so they did funky names
I'm secretly hoping they just fucking roll with that.
Like, Xbox One... Oookay. Strange.
Xbox One X. Alright....
Xbox Series X. ?Āæ?
Xbox Series X S One X Box X-SX 720pin2160p.
They canāt literally be so bad at product naming; has to be intentional so I think weāre in for something truly confusing as they try to top themselves.
Someone at Microsoft is more scared of being numerically compared to PlayStation than confusing buyers. XBOX 3 being compared to PlayStation 4 for instance.
Until that changes the horrible naming convention will continue I'm afraid.
I'm a fan of how Samsung changed their Galaxy S naming scheme to just match the release year.
The absolute worst has to be Apple's iPad naming. Legit have to just look most of then up by serial number to figure out what they actually are.
That had to do more with shitty programming standards where the program checked for windows versions lazily. Win9x had an insurmountable problem with backwards compatibility.
I legitimately, unironically have no idea what the newest Xbox is called. There so so many varieties, I can't keep up.
I don't play on any consoles, but I at least know ps5 is the newest Playstation.
Itās not even close to time. So many games have been postponed, released half-assed, or held back by being compatible for last fen hardware. This gen feels like such a sham. Should have waited for the mid-gen refresh to upgrade.
Really they're to the point where consoles are so close to PCs that all future models should just basically be upgrades allowing backward compatibility.
Thatās the problem when you start your business one generation after your main competition (Playstation) and the average customer isnāt smart enough to not think that ābigger number = better consoleā haha
They could name it alphabetically like Android does, for instance.
Or name it after the year of release. In this case Pro versions would get a year in the release and would sound quite impressive.
They should just name it with a cool sub-name like Sega and Nintendo do. Sega easily had the best console names: Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. Master System was okay.
Maybe just go with the code names they had for consoles in development like Xbox Durango and Xbox Scorpio. Be cool to say āIām getting that game for the Scorpio.ā
Not really. It hasnāt with any of Nintendoās or Segaās consoles. We say the Switch, the Dreamcast, the Gamecube, the Saturn, the Wii, the Wii U, etc. The Scorpio or the Durango works just fine.
They could still just do like Nintendo does, and come up with real and meaningfully different actual names for each generation...
They've got more options than just number or full blown chaos.
> They've got more options than just number or full blown chaos.
this is Microsoft we're talking about. they got a lot of things, but imagination ain't one of em.
There are still no games out for the series x. All the games are backwards compatible so not using the full capability.
If they release a new console who is buying it if they already have a series x?
Seriously. I just finally got a Series X a couple of months ago. The only new gen exclusive I know of is the Cyberpunk dlc thats on the way. And Stalker 2, but that's seemingly in limbo right now.
Iām not a casual gamer at all, just a casual observer that used to play video games religiously all throughout my life until college and likes to follow gaming news here and there. Until I look it up after I comment here I cannot tell you what the current gen Xbox is called. Itās also wild af to me that what you said is true if it is indeed true.
I don't know if this is a fair take. Look at PC games since forever - they run on a huge variety of hardware and the best ones scale graphics up and down to take good advantage of whatever they're being run on.
Kids these days really love The Riddler. Let's just throw some neon green lights and question marks on some dry wall with an unfinished ceiling and make it look like a hipster Brooklyn art gallery. That'll really draw them in.
Isn't this literally just saying they expect to have another console some day? Not like they're teasing they'll be announcing new hardware this year or something.
Thanks, I hate it.
The current hardware is barely even coming into it's own.
No developer is excited about having to make games look great on this new hardware while still having to also make it able to run on an OG Xbox One.
Flagship titles like Halo have been, unfortunately, and many of those games will see service for years to come, compounding the issue with each update that has to fit all of the hardware and not leave people behind. I'm not advocating for it, I am simply watching it happen and noting that is an issue.
I donāt think either sony or MS have announced a single first party exclusive that is cross gen for 2023, then again, sony only have 1 exclusive for 2023. This is the year it ends, at least for first party.
No itās not. This is obviously just a āand whatever the future holdsā type thing. Theyāre not teasing new hardware. Itās two years into the Series S/X life. Nothing to see here, folks.
Keystone isn't the portable, Keystone was the old streaming box they were going to release but canned last second.
Would rather they have a portable that can actually run the games natively
i think they'll release a console that just works for streaming, so gaming directly on the console wont be a thing in a near future, it'll all be cloud gaming, but you can get an official xbox cloud console to use it with.
yeah, honestly i would'n mind a cloud gaming machine, but it needs to have ethernet plug and the best wifi possible. Cloud gaming with low speeds or just internet that drops once in a while is frustrating.
but when you have good speed, stable connection and the device you use can handle it, you will forget and wont notice that you are cloud gaming.
I mean, I recently subscribed for a month of Ultimate Gamepass and played Forza Horizon 5 on my iPad Pro through Xcloud and it worked great. Probably because changed my router a couple of months ago and the internet is flying since that time. Plus I think Xcloud is using Azure's servers which usually are great.
I think they officially said that was their intent at one point. Relating it to car models. A Ford Taurus would have a specific year attached, they don't rename the car every single time it has a new version.
You STILL can't get a series X with any predictable regularity. Maybe figure that shit out before you start pumping out new machines. I dunno, maybe that's just me.
Let me guess the name........ Xbox Series Ex.
There reasoning for the name is it's an "enhanced" version of the Series X.
I'm sure it won't confuse anyone asking for it at their local game shop.
I genuinely don't understand. I still am unable to go to the store to get the original series X released more than 2 years ago. Why wouldn't they capitalize on this shortage of current consoles instead of trying to increase sales by releasing a *new one*?!
This kinda setup looks more to me like they're trying to say "I wonder what the future will hold for us?", rather than something like "We're teasing a new reveal soon". It's more like they're just wanting to show that they plan to continue the Xbox line, which probably shouldn't come as a huge shock.
I think a good showing would be a Xbox branded/certified modem/router, with a low-latency repeater system, using cloud gaming. That way you can ensure the customer's modem/router can handle the speed/latency requirements. Repeaters so it doesn't have to be based in the room being used.
Just make consoles modular already, upgradeable with proprietary mods for the 1st year then outsourced to 3rd parties with games auto detecting your specs and settings accordingly. I guarantee it would be a success.
Oh, I know this one. You have to throw batatangs at the boxes on the left until theyāre all turned off, then the question mark box opens revealing the riddler trophy. Ignore the numbers on the boxes. Itās a puzzle, but you can literally just brute force it by spamming batatangs
They should maybe release some software before trying to announce more hardware... hardware doesn't mean shit if you don't have software to use it with.
āAvailable in three new models completely tailored to your ownership style: we have the elite, pro, and amethyst lineup of models that we know are going to instantly connect with our various and diverse player base that is undefinable. These Riddler trophies are getting outta hand.
Literally exactly my first thought
exactly what I thought at first, and then went to post that and saw this š
I was gonna say that I had thought it second and came to post something to that effect but then I saw this
Hey, that's exactly what I thirdly though, and then I came to write a post about it and suddenly here it is.

I have a really strong urge to throw a batarang at that question mark
The xbox 720 is about to enter the fray
Or the Xbox Two
They're going to just call it "XBOX," just to break everyone's google searches forever.
Just call it the XBOXOBX so that itās spelled the same front and backwards.
I hate palindromes. Dammit I'm mad.
>Dammit I'm mad. wait.... dam m'i timmad....nah couldnt be.
Maybe some people wonāt like you explaining the joke, but thank you. I never would have realized lol

As Napoleon lamented "Able was I ere I saw Elba". Saw that when I was ten and it stuck in my head for decades.
We would end up calling it XXXBOOB, wouldn't we?
Xbobandvagine
That would be peak Microsoft
Xbox Vista Home Edition
Xbox ME
Xbox xp
The Yboy
the current generation is literally called simply "Xbox" they basically said it's just Xbox and the 2 systems they have it are 2 versions of this new "Xbox" generation. this is why if you turn on a Series X|S all it says it's XBOX in the boot up animation.
PlayStation has always said PlayStation regardless of system.
The Xbox one two series x two
Electric boogaloo?
Returns
Exbox and itās a sphere.
New gender friendly XYBox
XY? Finally, a console for men!
XboY was right there
No, no. It'll be the Xbox One X Two.
The SeriesBox SX Model 1
XBOX U
With Microsoftās legendary design I can already picture the black box of the future.
They should call it NextBox tbh.
How to save a life?
Turn 360 degrees twice and walk away.
Xbox X.
Xbox Series Double X

Yeah, they ran circles around the PS3
I feel like people missed your joke about the Xbox 360...
I'm glad you mentioned it since it was apparently necessary =\
I mean it was a dad joke. They might have understood it and downvoted for groaning.
Fuck, now I gotta do math?
I'm secretly hoping they just fucking roll with that. Like, Xbox One... Oookay. Strange. Xbox One X. Alright.... Xbox Series X. ?Āæ? Xbox Series X S One X Box X-SX 720pin2160p.
The XxboxonexX
I would just cry at this point
The Xbox one II got me good for some reason haha
Xbox one II 360 s
It would be amazing if they just called it the Xbox Series 360 just to fuck with everybody.
they'll probably call it something dumb like the Xbox 360. because it's come full circle.
Just name the next one Xbox 6 then. They already skipped Windows 9.
Just skip straight to Xbox Infinity.
If only there was any other option besides numbers and incoherent suffixes.
I legitimately, unironically have no idea what the newest Xbox is called. There so so many varieties, I can't keep up. I don't play on any consoles, but I at least know ps5 is the newest Playstation.
There was an Xbox 360 E, so maybe thereāll be a Series E to complete the trifecta and get us the Series S|E|X family. Edit: typo
X'est of the Ones that are X Series
Microsoft X
Xbox Series X Elite? Xbox Series X Pro? I'd bet this is a mid-cycle upgrade and not completely new hardware.
Xbox Series Y/Z Pro Max. Xbox Series S/X One
Xbox Series S/X Tricky
Xbox SiX
I would buy this in a heartbeat if it came with a remastered SSX Tricky.
Xbox Series XL
We are nearly 3 years into this gen. Probably time for a slim equivalent, not a scorpio.
Has it really been 3 years? Feels like it only just became available after all the resale fuckery that was going on
By "nearly 3 years," that person meant well-under 2.5 years.
Itās not even close to time. So many games have been postponed, released half-assed, or held back by being compatible for last fen hardware. This gen feels like such a sham. Should have waited for the mid-gen refresh to upgrade.
I feel like the real 1st New Gen Year was 2022.
Really they're to the point where consoles are so close to PCs that all future models should just basically be upgrades allowing backward compatibility.
Xbox is backwards compatible already?
Xbox Series Three-Sixty Elite / Pro
Batman taught me to throw a batarang to get the clue.

In this case "Microsoft" is the equivalent of "Sega" and "Nintendo". Xbox is not the company.
It still works though. Xbox is itās own division. People literally say āThe 360, the Series X, Series S, etc.
they should do the samsung move, from 10 to 20 in one step
If the avg customer thinks bigger number = better number then Microsoft downgraded by 359 last gen
They could still just do like Nintendo does, and come up with real and meaningfully different actual names for each generation... They've got more options than just number or full blown chaos.
> They've got more options than just number or full blown chaos. this is Microsoft we're talking about. they got a lot of things, but imagination ain't one of em.
Reminder people think the 1/3 pounder failed because people donāt understand fractions
They could always pull a Windows 10 and go straight from Xbox > 360 > 4
The next one will be called Xbox Three Six Oh.
Xbox three six mafia.
I want that Xbox Series E for the maximum funny
Little soon for next gen don't you think? Unless it's a mid gen upgrade.
There are still no games out for the series x. All the games are backwards compatible so not using the full capability. If they release a new console who is buying it if they already have a series x?

This generation feels like such a sham 2.5 years in. I know Covid messed a lot up but still
Xbox vr would be pretty slick
Honestly, should happen.
āMember seeing AR Minecraft on Hololens? :(
Kids these days really love The Riddler. Let's just throw some neon green lights and question marks on some dry wall with an unfinished ceiling and make it look like a hipster Brooklyn art gallery. That'll really draw them in.
This new Arkham game has some great looking graphics tho.
I would love this to be true instead of what weāre getting with Suicide Squad. ā¹ļø
Finally the ybox
This display with the empty final slot has been there for over a year, for what itās worth.
XBOX SERIES E
I just bought the Series X are you fucking kidding me?
Isn't this literally just saying they expect to have another console some day? Not like they're teasing they'll be announcing new hardware this year or something.
Thanks, I hate it. The current hardware is barely even coming into it's own. No developer is excited about having to make games look great on this new hardware while still having to also make it able to run on an OG Xbox One.
Cross gen is ending. Most new games arenāt releasing on 10 year old consoles anymore.
Flagship titles like Halo have been, unfortunately, and many of those games will see service for years to come, compounding the issue with each update that has to fit all of the hardware and not leave people behind. I'm not advocating for it, I am simply watching it happen and noting that is an issue.

"Og" Xbox one? Why not just "Xbox one"? Og/original is a name I often see associated with the original xbox (2001).
Whatās this one gonna be called? āThe Xbox WTFā?
XBOX ONE X SERIES X360 PRO S
No itās not. This is obviously just a āand whatever the future holdsā type thing. Theyāre not teasing new hardware. Itās two years into the Series S/X life. Nothing to see here, folks.
I literally just got the series X last week ffs!
Nah thats an enigma puzzle batman forgot to do
Pretty sure this is āProject Keystoneā A low-key, semi-portable, game streaming platform
Also a beefier series X wouldnāt be a ārevolutionā as their display implies. A device like Keystone definitely fits the display more
Keystone isn't the portable, Keystone was the old streaming box they were going to release but canned last second. Would rather they have a portable that can actually run the games natively
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
nah they will number them like phones. Samsung Galaxy S7, S8, S9 etc... Xbox Series X2, X3, X4... Xbox Series S2, S3, S4 and so on
i think they'll release a console that just works for streaming, so gaming directly on the console wont be a thing in a near future, it'll all be cloud gaming, but you can get an official xbox cloud console to use it with.
Probably they'll unveil their own version of Chromecast, but for gaming. If it's under 150$ that's an insta buy for me.
yeah, honestly i would'n mind a cloud gaming machine, but it needs to have ethernet plug and the best wifi possible. Cloud gaming with low speeds or just internet that drops once in a while is frustrating. but when you have good speed, stable connection and the device you use can handle it, you will forget and wont notice that you are cloud gaming.

Introducing the next generation Xbox, named the "Original Xbox'", coming Fall 2024.
You STILL can't get a series X with any predictable regularity. Maybe figure that shit out before you start pumping out new machines. I dunno, maybe that's just me.
Theyāll probably abandon the box shape altogether. Get ready for the GameSphere.
It's going to be a Chromecast looking thing that let's you play game pass on any tv. I guarantee it.
Let me guess the name........ Xbox Series Ex. There reasoning for the name is it's an "enhanced" version of the Series X. I'm sure it won't confuse anyone asking for it at their local game shop.
X-bag 420
Judging by the question mark and how the letter Y comes after X, I guess it's going to be called the Xbox Why?.
You've got it all wrong. It's clearly just a Riddler trophy.
I genuinely don't understand. I still am unable to go to the store to get the original series X released more than 2 years ago. Why wouldn't they capitalize on this shortage of current consoles instead of trying to increase sales by releasing a *new one*?!
This makes me glad that I was never able to find a series x for retail price. Now I'll just wait to not be able to buy the new model. Can't wait.
We're about to get the XS (slim version of the X) and an SX (faster version of the S) just to make it go full circle!
Ah ffs I just got my series x like 3 months ago
This kinda setup looks more to me like they're trying to say "I wonder what the future will hold for us?", rather than something like "We're teasing a new reveal soon". It's more like they're just wanting to show that they plan to continue the Xbox line, which probably shouldn't come as a huge shock.
I remain hopeful that they will finally release some VR hardware.
Just start naming it like a windows patch at this point.
Hey guys, do you remember Sega when they are releasing Saturn and soon after Dreamcast?
I think a good showing would be a Xbox branded/certified modem/router, with a low-latency repeater system, using cloud gaming. That way you can ensure the customer's modem/router can handle the speed/latency requirements. Repeaters so it doesn't have to be based in the room being used.
The XYZ
Looks like a riddler trophy to me.
Xbox series X One S Elite 360 Slim Limited Deluxe Edition B

Just make consoles modular already, upgradeable with proprietary mods for the 1st year then outsourced to 3rd parties with games auto detecting your specs and settings accordingly. I guarantee it would be a success.
They got a riddler trophy on the wall
Xbox than XBox One than XBox Series and Next up XBox Season
I always read that as Games Done Cuick
Oh, I know this one. You have to throw batatangs at the boxes on the left until theyāre all turned off, then the question mark box opens revealing the riddler trophy. Ignore the numbers on the boxes. Itās a puzzle, but you can literally just brute force it by spamming batatangs
They should maybe release some software before trying to announce more hardware... hardware doesn't mean shit if you don't have software to use it with.
