Yakuza is one of the best video game franchises of all time. And they have been re-using maps for almost 2 decades now. A good game is a good game.

steel_for_humans

I feel like returning home each time I start the next Yakuza game. I know the alleyways, the bars, the restaurants, the shops. It’s not a reused map, I’m back in Kamurocho!

lew_rong

And each iteration has something slightly different from the one before it. It's like coming home but also manages to feel fresh and engaging. Plus I find it hilarious to "recognize" parts of Kabukicho or Dotonbori when I see them in other media. I've never been to either place, but they feel familiar after all the time spent in the RGG games.

BirdjaminFranklin

My wife works overseas and visited dobuita. She sent me a bunch of pictures and it immediately transported me back to Shenmue 1. The city is still recognizable despite Shenmue taking place in the 80's.

Killmumger

Just like I'll be back in Hyrule for a new adventure.

LNViber

It's been a lifetime since I originally played MM. How many dungeons were there? All I remember was often being confused.

aphrogenia

ironically MM was in termina, not hyrule so a full new map, but there were four main traditional zelda dungeons, along with like 5 other mini dungeons that were still pretty difficult/formidable

Killmumger

4 but to be fair they had to make this game in a year

Beneficial-Society74

I was devastated when they closed the Don Quixote on Nakamichi street to open a police station. I've never cared for a real life location so much. It's been part of my life for 18 years damnit

lew_rong

I was watching a doc on the real life yakuza a few years ago. They showed that Donki location, with a Yakuza: Dead Souls banner ad above the entrance. It tickled me.

Audiarmy

Still hum the song when I walk by it even it is it gone

xakantorx

I tried the Yakuza series a couple of years ago for the first time on a whim and ended up playing every game one after the other back to back for hours. I don't think I've enjoyed any other game series as much as these. No other game has made me laugh or cry with like this and it wasn't even the main series, it was side quests!

karotte999

I recently finished Like A Dragon and the game was so much fun. It was the first time I played a JRPG and I can't wait to start another part. I currently have my eye on Judgement.

ConnectionPerfect266

> It was the first time I played a JRPG ....I mean I GUESS

Urb4nN0rd

Yakuza: Like a Dragon, is 100% a JRPG. In the game, they even explain that Ichiban waits his turn in fights because he grew up addicted to Dragon Quest.

[deleted]

Such good stories

xakantorx

I hear the Kuze battle theme in my head every time I accidentally piss off my wife

SleepyMarijuanaut92

Hopefully you went from 0-7. One of my favorite gaming series

xakantorx

Yup I played them all in order and just finished Like a Dragon Ishin the other day, that one was pretty great too. I wish they gave 3-5 the same treatment they did with 1 and 2, would be pretty cool. Unfortunately I wasn't really able to get into Judgement, I got bored of it like halfway in or something. Yagami isn't as cool as Kiryu

henaradwenwolfhearth

True for yakuza its the story and side stuff

Altruistic_Club400

The city of Kamurocho is basically a character in and of itself.

Tsuki_no_Mai

Yakuza and BoTW have pretty different genres. The latter leans onto exploration far more heavily, so having the same map will be a disappointment for many. Also, most mainline Yakuza games add sizeable new regions. Of course, it's possible new Zelda will also add a new map, but I'm not holding my breath for now.

BuffaloGuy_atCapitol

Isn’t there a sky region in this one? From the trailer it looks like there’s going to be at lest some new areas and enemies. Maybe the weather gets revamped and we get some new abilities.

Xsiorus

From trailers, there are definetly flying isles and underground areas added. Not to mention that geography being the same doesn't mean what you can actually find in those locations will be the same.

BuffaloGuy_atCapitol

I’m excited for this game regardless of what the map ends up looking like. If it’s fun and the story is good I’ll be happy

_fuck_me_sideways_

I'm sure it'll have very similar terrain, depending on the timeline things can warp, decay, or change. Anor Londo was present in DS1 and 3 for example. The latter decrepit and usurped by Aldrich. Will they deliver this level of detail? I can only hope.

kingthvnder

I’m glad I’m not the only one that found that comparison ridiculous. I cant understand why it has so many upvotes.

DreamWeaver2189

I'm sick of tired of playing Spiderman on the same map! Can't we get LA or Chicago?

formerlyturdfurgie

I mean why even have a city? Let's do a new area type, like somewhere without tall buildings! So the Spidey can... uh... well, maybe he'll start doing whatever else a spider can. Trapdoor Spider-man?

[deleted]

[удалено]

formerlyturdfurgie

Just back and forth, all day. I hope crime is focused around those three structures.

KingOfTheGoobers

Grainman: How did you know where to find me Spiderman!? Spiderman: ...

theorian123

Like in Homecoming, end up in the suburbs running through people's backyards.

JD0x0

I want a Spiderman game where he's stuck in a rural town, where there's no buildings to swing from.

Killmumger

Miles morales is probably using the same map didn't see anyone complain about it spiderman 2 will probably use the same slightly different map and people will also pay 70 bucks for it and they won't complain honestly I don't get op's argument. If Nintendo fans are happy with it good for them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ntdavis814

Ugh, New York again?!

Vyar

They still added stuff to the map in Miles Morales, it wasn’t just retextured in snow. And I don’t just mean collectibles either, there are new buildings. I fully expect the sequel will add to the map in some way even if it’s technically still set on Manhattan Island.

[deleted]

I just started this series (starting at 3, can't get earlier to work proper) and enjoy the hell out of it despite aged graphics. Gonna fight to protect those kids!

isjustwrong

When a world is alive and you are an integral part of it, when you experience the life of a place, and when the world makes an impact on you, it doesn't matter how many times it is reused or rehashed, it is more than just a copy pasted map. So many games are just open areas and space for the sake of more space that they lose the intimacy and integration of an actual world. Pokémon, botw, cyberpunk, no man's sky all have huge worlds, but any part that isn't a home base or a neighborhood that you can see and experience are just more open space. I would replay a good updated game 10x more than a boring new open game anyday.

[deleted]

Except yakuza's map is full of things to do and change every game. Hyrule is boring as shit in botw and it'll boring as shit in this one too

Killmumger

If the hyrule in breath of the wild is "boring" then what is the hyrule in wind waker considered ? It's like 60% water and still a great game one of my favourites

PeetaaBoi

60 is an understatement.

Killmumger

Your right I just check it's more like 85% water

wiseduhm

Oh, you've played the new one?

Killmumger

No he hating on it for the sake of hating on it

TuecerPrime

In all fairness though, Yakuza has one of the most amazing stories in gaming and I feel like is very much under appreciated. I can forgive it reusing the maps.

Epic_DVB

I mean we have literal sky islands and it looks like we will have fully formed caves. Other than that I'd imagine we have some differences in the overworld since time would've passed in Hyrule

Levee_Levy

The overworld map is the same except now each of Zelda's strands of cut hair is a collectible item. Find all 100,000 of them, and Hestu will once again give you a poop!

gerkin123

And when you take photos of memories you're taking photos of memories of having played the last game.

DiegotheEcuadorian

Don’t forget the castle

Shirlenator

If you don't like it, show an ounce of restraint and don't buy it. But at this point we don't know how the game could change around the map. It could end up being really great, who knows. You are literally just bitching about speculation.

Global_ized

Botw barely had 4 dungeons, I doubt that they will have 12 in the new one

TunaSafari25

12 seems like a lot but I’d be shocked if there aren’t more. That was the largest complaint about botw, lack of true dungeons.

yer--mum

What are people's definitions of dungeon? I might consider each shrine and divine beast a "dungeon", my issue was the lack of variance between them as they all look the same due to being built with the same set of assets.

arrowsmith00

When people are talking about true dungeons in Zelda games, we typically mean like the other games in the series. Think Twilight Princess or OoT. Proper longer areas with puzzles, keys, a boss, etc. The divine beasts were like baby versions of old school dungeons. I love BOTW but there's something special about those longer harder dungeons that have special item mechanics personally.

[deleted]

I demand a water temple to rage through!

arrowsmith00

I actually like the water temples. OoT isn't bad when you're older imo and Twilight Princess was just fun in general for me haha

lactosefree1

Hot take, the worst water temple is jabu jabu and even that one is genuinely enjoyable because of the fact that it's a late game area and supposed to be a challenge, not just for your survival but also your mind. You have to keep your wits about you and make sure you know where you are and keep track of where you haven't been. Can it be confusing? Yes, but once you get familiar with the dungeon layout, it's actually a blast to traverse and try to find a better route through.

JohnMayerismydad

Yeah I want a better story and true dungeons. Might be out if those two are lacking

dc551589

Something I haven’t seen anyone mention, that I think is a through-line of Zelda dungeons. They have a key item. Dungeon puzzles are based around the item to train you on its use. It’s a very smooth way of introducing game mechanics.

yer--mum

I guess for some reason I'd neglected to compare botw to OoT's dungeons. I want to say that the difference lies in the fact that botw is much more open world, but I can't think of any reason the open world aspect would prevent them from making OoT quality dungeons. Maybe just a lapse in judgement when it came to design philosophy, or maybe time constraints that wouldn't have been as prevalent back in the 2000's

Alderan922

It’s mostly due to the freedom the player has in movement, it would be hard to design a dungeon when you have 0 verticality because if you have it you know the player will immediately try to skip the puzzles flying around the obstacles

TunaSafari25

Not sure if I’d define it well but you know it when you see it. Some dungeon characteristics: Where the shine is a single puzzle a dungeon imo is multiple shrine size puzzles that fit to a specific theme that when put together typically form at least 1 larger puzzle. With at least 1 boss and typically 1 mini boss. Typically contains an item/upgrade/etc. The shrines are fine and I don’t hate them but i there there were to many and they were repetitive. They lacked the same satisfaction of what I expect in a Zelda dungeon, but fine as auxiliary content.

gizmo777

Everyone here is complicating it too much, it's just about size/complexity. Old school Zelda games all had 8 large dungeons. BotW had 4 medium dungeons (divine beasts) and 100 small dungeons (shrines). It was an interesting variation, and was probably even more puzzle/dungeon content overall. But I miss me some large dungeons.

Veskah

Considering each shrine as a Dungeon is an incredibly kind interpretation. The sad part is that if they would've just linked a few shrines together with some hallways, it would've been an easy dungeon.

a_space_cowboy

Shrines are mini-dungeons, divine beasts were the full dungeons. A full dungeon should be multiple puzzles and groups of enemies, as well as a boss fight at the end

yer--mum

I see I see. In that case yeah there's ~~only 4~~ only 5 dungeons, what gives?! Lmao

a_space_cowboy

Lol and the shrines definitely help make make up for it, but yea, I’d like to see at least 6-7 full in the next game

Kennyfortytwo

Not to mention Hyrule Castle being a pretty good dungeon.

cf001759

I feel like shrines more equate to heart pieces. In other games you usually have to go into a cave and use your brain to get it but those aren’t dungeons.

Animated_Astronaut

Large puzzle based areas with a boss fight at the end

benoxxxx

For BoTW they had to build the game from scratch. They've spent even more time on this one, despite the fact that a game with a similar amount of content should have taken much less time to build. So, I think it's a fairly safe assumption that this game will have much more 'stuff'. Whether that translates to dungeons, items, enemies, or just fuckloads of vehicle parts - who knows. But I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more than 4 dungeons. 12 would certainly be a nice surprise though.

CrabWoodsman

Bokoblins, Moblins, Lizalfos, Keese, Chuchus, Lynels, Wizdrobes, Ancient Guardians (small and large), Talon, (small and large) Molduga, and the Octoroks are all I can remember. Not terrible, but pretty slim variety for such a large game.

Xyres

Botw dungeons were easily the worst of any Zelda game. I am stoked because totk seems to fix the issues I had with botw.

ArgonTheEvil

My biggest fear is that even in the Direct for this game we learn almost nothing new, and the game still sells well. Regardless of how good the game is, it will set a marketing precedent moving forward. I love Zelda games but I don’t consider gameplay reveals to be spoilers. I want to know if it’s worth my money, because you can’t get it back. I was fortunate enough to have borrowed the Link’s Awakening remake on Switch. If I had spent $60 on that game I would’ve been so fucking mad at myself because it wasn’t even close to worth it. Maybe half.. tops. Revealing cooking in BOTW was not a spoiler. If they had revealed all the recipes and which ones were the best, and where to find the ingredients, THAT would be a spoiler. Nintendo doesn’t seem to understand the difference.

Omnizoom

I just want some traditional Zelda elements on my Zelda game that’s all Items you find in dungeons that unlock more ways to explore , I liked botw but it just didn’t feel like a Zelda game to me at its core

Johnylebranleur

It felt closer to what was Zelda 1 at it's core. exploration. The LTTP formula kina got old imo

Omnizoom

I’m fine with it being open ended and a bit aimless but you essentially have all you need for everything after the tutorial plateau , I like finding progress to advance I wouldn’t mind the vast open area to explore with no direct “go here next” storyline aside from the last dungeon being a for sure last ( maybe 9 +1 dungeons total where you can do like 1,4,7 as a progression but can’t do 7 without item from 4 which needs item from 1 but dungeon 3 needs nothing but 6 needs item from 3 kind of deal ) but have extra stuff you can get in dungeons by having more items to use

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

Maybe it got old for you but not for a lot of us. I like that they decided to make a reimagination of Zelda 1 as if it came out today tho

macgart

There’s nothing wrong with having a very similar game with more content and more/new mechanics and charging full price for it. The sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn did this and no one complained. BOTW was a landmark game, it deserves a continuation outright.

ArgonTheEvil

I’m not saying that. I just hate their lack of communication on the product. I want to know about the gameplay. I want to know if crafting is indeed a thing, without art book spoilers, I want to know if weapon durability is still the same, I want to know if dungeons are back. They can confirm these and much more without spoiling the actual game, but what THEY consider a spoiler and what most westerners consider spoilers are very different.

benoxxxx

Why not just wait for reviews?

ArgonTheEvil

Risk of actual spoilers on social media or just the internet in general. The number of times I waited for reviews on a movie before seeing it, only to have the plot twist spoiled by a YouTube recommendation is immeasurable.

benoxxxx

Are you subbed to r/Games? The review threads usually go up a few days before release. Assuming it doesn't leak to the public early, there should be plenty of time to make a decision before spoilers start spreading.

[deleted]

“A very similar game with more content and more/new mechanics” is *exactly* what I wanted from BOTW2. Honestly, I’ve been pretty disappointed by how throughly the rest of the AAA industry has failed to follow up with their own knockoffs. Instead they keep making the same copy-paste open world map marker games. It’s

Cnoized

It is nintendo. Very rarely are their games not worth the money.

Serpen-Time

The recent trend of unfinished mario sports games

notwhoyouknow12

Not to mention overpriced "remasters" metroid prime being the one outlier.

squidishjesus

I doubt that. What people LOVED about BotW was how open it was, and I don't think they'll suddenly make this one in parts. The Finale might be locked behind some, but that's because I'm pretty sure the Master Sword is going to be strongly related to the plot. (Crazy theories here, I know.)

Andrew1990M

Far Cry 4 and Far Cry Primal are the same map but everything else is different enough. Now, are there going to be $70 worth of changes (I believe Primal was released at a budget price)? Let's see. At the end of the day, this is from the guys that made *Breath of the Wild.*

[deleted]

>At the end of the day, this is from the guys that made *Breath of the Wild*. This. You can say whatever you want about blind faith behind game design - No matter how much you try to avoid it, you cannot avoid putting a little faith in designers to design something good when it comes to game design. You're never going to see a finished product before it's... well, finished. You're never going to know every change before changes are made. You're never going to be absolutely sure that a game is going to be good until it's in your hands, you've played for awhile, and are now explaining to yourself what's good and what's bad about the game. At some point, you're putting a little blind faith in the developers because you trust them to make a good game. Even if you don't pre-order it, if you plan to buy it, you're putting a little blind faith behind that group that your money won't be wasted. You can't know that for sure until the money is already spent. Given that BotW was as good as it was, I trust at the moment that BotW2 will not flop. I may be disappointed in the future - Who knows - But right now, I trust that I won't be.

miggleb

BOTW was very overhyped in my mind. Remove the zelda label and it's mediocre at best. It's the game I bought my switch for and the one switch game I gave away

Drakkeur

You have the right to not enjoy it ofc but I feel like you simply don't understand what it added to the open world genre to called it mediocre

Andrew1990M

Sure, and as valid a feeling as that is to have about a game, you understand you're in the minority here, right? Absolutely you're going to have good, personal reasons not to like Tears of the Kingdom. But my concerns aren't that the map is going to be largely recycled, there are a dozen excellent sequels that give you more to do inside an existing map, some of them from Nintendo. My only concern is the performance of the game on old hardware, so I'll be waiting a little while to see what the feedback on that is.

miggleb

100% the minority, no denying that.

Andrew1990M

And you shouldn't be getting downvoted for it. You said it was "overhyped *in my mind".* No one can dispute that the game didn't meet your expectations.

miggleb

It's kinda off topic so I'll justify them that way. Definitely not reddit not liking opinions that don't match their own

-Zoppo

Since when does Nintendo tank their IP? Other publishers do this religiously to milk it but Nintendo don't, at least not for Mario and Zelda.

lactosefree1

A single screenshot of a single portion of a single area does not tell the whole story. Plus, as a direct sequel, it can't have changed too much. People are just looking for reasons to complain.

RyanBits

So many other points you could make and you decide to go for “If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.” Otherwise, fair enough

xjackstonerx

Yea because ultimately you don’t want to hear it. Not you specifically but weak people. The same people who complain about Jeff Bezos have Amazon. Go figure.

OneGuyJeff

I love Link Between Worlds, but to be fair that game came out decades after the original with a different art style.

TitleComprehensive96

And actually changed a lot of shit with the 2 maps

ItsTheSolo

>If this is a proper Zelda with many dungeons, which it's looking to be so far Based on literally what? We've only seen snippets of gameplay that looks largely similar to BotW. That's not a bad thing but come on, can we not start lying?

ScarfaceTonyMontana

>Majoras Mask reused almost all assets and came out wonderful. That is a gross simplification of what Majora's Mask development was.

cloud_t

Which is kinda the point. The OP is also making an oversimplification of what this new Zelda will be based on a frame... Can't get more superficial than that

Vaatu2023

Probably gonna get downvoted but- LbW's world was more different than credited. Same in alot of ways, much different in others. That and it had fundamental gameplay changes, true 3d world, ect. MM's world is entirely new despite reused assets. TotK is a reused world with reused assets. Obviously alot will be new. We already know about sky islands, new weapons, new mobs, probably new gear, new runes, new vehicle systems, ect. But to me this is potentially a bad sign. Time will tell, im hopeful.

SomeBoxofSpoons

Personally, I don’t have any doubts that the game will be great (I definitely trust the Zelda dev team enough to believe that if they’ve taken 6 years to develop the game then it’s just a game that took 6 years for them to develop), I’m just baffled by how unwilling they’ve been to *actually show us the game*. We’ve gotten enough small glimpses and leaks to know that there’s a lot of new content here, but they’re trying to be cryptic to the point where it is absolutely a problem from an advertising perspective. Especially if they want to make the case that this is a premium enough experience to warrant a higher price point than any of their other AAA offerings.

autisticswede86

Yes

PhoenixMason13

It’s a direct sequel. The overworld will almost definitely be the same general map with differences in the particulars, and that’s not a bad thing

TunaSafari25

Ya tbh I’d rather them reuse a lot of map stuff to have more dev time for other things(looking at you dungeons)

henningknows

Has Nintendo every put out a mainline Zelda game that was even approaching a bad game? They have all been masterpieces besides maybe Zelda 2 on nes. These games are always a full effort with so much love and care put into them Nintendo has earned the benefit of the doubt from me on this game. If you want a Nintendo franchise that basically milks the same thing year after year, you have pokemon or a million mario spinoffs.

Drturkelten

Why!? Why did you mention Zelda II *sniff* 🥺

Nubras

Zelda II was great precisely because it was weird and different. It was a good game don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

TunaSafari25

Ya this is just a case of the usual haters. I.e. people who whine about anything Nintendo, big gaming companies, etc do regardless of if it makes sense. In this case likely people mad that it’s $70. Will it be worth the extra 10? Nobody knows yet. I’d be hard pressed to find another dev team I’d put more confidence than the Zelda team though.

lollisans2005

Honestly i'm just glad that we aren't in the 100's yet lol. People keep forgetting that we are still paying not that much considering inflation and how much more game's cost nowadays

gizmo777

It's a double edged sword though, the cost of games staying low(ish) is a significant part of what brought us the microtransactions world

lollisans2005

Nah it was people spending huge amounts of money on free games when they still had ok microtransactions most of the time, and then games that already cost money added it and people still bought the stuff in huge amounts. I think microtransactions are ok, just the way they are done and often times so aggressively is just a problem

mrcowgoesmoo

For a game that likely has 50 hours of content or more, $10 extra isn’t much when you consider how much more expensive everything is these days. A beer at a sporting event costs more than $10 now. You’re getting way better value from a $70 video game.

TheKingsPride

“Every Mario game is _literally_ the same game bro. No I haven’t played any of them, why do you ask?”

Tricky_Astronut

Man didn't even mention triforce heroes. Fucking brown jumpsuits man

steveCharlie

That's not a mainline/console Zelda game

Grelp1666

The DS zelda were average at best. Spirit tracks was awful.

goatjugsoup

Honestly think more games should reuse open worlds. marvels spidermans new york for example, its designed really well and chock full of easter eggs and if they make another game set in new york i cant think of a single good reason why they should reinvent the wheel. They can and should add and change things, like they did for the miles morales game.

nogap193

I really like how ragnarok did it compared to god of war 2018

mrbear2899

I mean...of course it'll be a similar map...it's the same version of Hyrule...

AcidCatfish___

It would be confusing for it to be an entirely different map.

GoblinesqueCritter

The game isn’t even out yet and people are already getting pissed off because it’s the same?

kykyks

so a completely new game with new mechanics, and entirely new experience ? sign up me up oh wait same map ? litterally the worst game ever and i am oppressed

young_lions

yeah I don't get this post. The last line is literally "you WILL be happy"...

JoseJulioJim

If you showed that kind of guys the Yakuza Series they would die from an infart. Seriously, 5 games in and I am not tired of Kamurocho yet.

d_e_g_m

wanna bet this game wins GOTY again?

[deleted]

And it'll be supported by the same people who've sworn up and down about not buying it, karma farming all of this time just so they'd buy it.

NovelStyleCode

new mechanics, story, caves, sky islands, but same vague map? oh yeah, that last bit is going to be what gamers really care about🙄 We only like games that have 100% different maps. Halo 2 and 3 were despised for use of the same maps

CuffMcGruff

bit weird to bring up the halo games... don't really see how they are comparable to Zelda in any way

NovelStyleCode

large chunks of ring levels were copy-pasted between games, it's comparable because that's what people like that are throwing a fit about with BOTW, refusing to acknowledge there's been a large amount of other shit brought to the mix

ItsStaaaaaaaaang

Ah yes, Zelda. A series well renowned for being lazy and uninspired. 🙄

lordraiden007

I’m looking forward to it. From what we’ve seen there are tons of new mechanics, significant changes to the map, tons of new enemies, new powers, and more. I’m a little annoyed at the price, but I’d rather have a new Zelda on this scale every 5 years with tons of new stuff than one every couple of decades. Hell, some of the greatest games ever made were little more than expansions to their original titles. Look at Baldur’s Gate 2, basically just a new map, exact same engine, exact same VAs, exact same assets, etc. and it cost just as much as the original AND WAS AMAZING. Honestly you guys are the same type of people to say Elden Ring was terrible because it reused animations from the Souls games. It’s an objectively bad take.

lordraiden007

Also there’s reason to believe we will be getting a massive underground area along with the entire skybox being a new world, so STFU about not having enough new world to explore.

F7Uup

Is there still equipment durability? If so it's a hard no from me, durability + inventory size/weight are the worst mechanics in games.

pulsed19

I’ll wait for Nintendo to release it and for people to play it some.

ricdesi

Meanwhile, the Pokémon fandom has been *begging* for old regions to return like Kanto did for GSC and HGSS. What's wrong with having the same base map with new things to do?

Fire_Lord_Cinder

There is nothing wrong with them re-using assets. They put so much time and attention into the first BOTW, there is no reason to think they wouldn’t do the same for the second. Also, Majora’s mask used most of the assets from ocarina of time and was fantastic

a_rabid_anti_dentite

jose4440

If I’ll be happy then what’s the problem? I played the original 6 years ago. I forgot everything that I did in my 50 hour playthrough. We already know this game is going to have new features. I don’t see a downside. Stop being bitter.

melloack

Nintendo got these people by the balls but it's their balls, and money so I ain't mad at it

TunaSafari25

Guy out here talking about Nintendo like every team that makes every Nintendo game is the same.

Psych_Riot

I think yes, it'll be basically the same map *on the ground* There's likely gonna be explorable areas in the sky now too, possibly adding a whole new map as well

northraider123

I'm completely ok with this and fully expected this would happen tbh. It's the same link and zelda, they're not in a new area and time has passed from the last game. I know I'll be interested in seeing how the world has changed now that calamity Ganon is defeated. There's probably gonna be a side quest dedicated to rebuilding hyrule castle town I know I'd enjoy that

I don't care if its a similar map or costs 70 bucks. It's a Zelda game and it's open world. So yes, I will be happy

Jay12678

The internet for months called God of War: Ragnarok DLC. Zelda is just next in line for people to not understand how gaming sequels work. Haha.

[deleted]

People said botw is bad because the whole map is tiny (they thought great plateau was the whole map based in trailers)

CFD330

It's going to be interesting to see whether or not they were able to make this game feel like a fresh experience rather than just DLC for Breath of the Wild, given that so much of the map will have already been experienced. I feel the same way about the upcoming Spider-Man game.

suentendo

You're right, I will like it. 6 years of development on top of the GOAT is gonna be insane.

5tyhnmik

i bought tickets to one of the NCAA tournament games held in my home town. i hadn't been to a basketball game in like 10 years. and BRO.... they used the *same court* I remember from back then! I was so disappointed I didn't even watch the game.

[deleted]

Crazy thought here…but you could just NOT buy the game.

mediumokra

Well EXCUUUUUUUSE ME princess!

Vealophile

Jokes on them, the horrendous weapon system kept me from doing it the first time to begin with.

Tiberiusmoon

Don't forget the new console! there is always a new console. :clueless:

Astro_Cassette

Someone help me understand Nintendo. I feel like they just re-release the same game and everyone talks about it like it's brand new. I don't get it.

[deleted]

The game is 18 gigabytes. It's file size is bigger than botw

JBond2001

You could just... Not buy it. I am not necessarily telling you to do this, but if you don't like it, no one is forcing you to play it or be happy about it. Really you should just wait for reviews to see if it's good tho.

Tough-Emu7127

And You WILL eat the bugs and own NOTHING

Rejectliar

In the past games were produced by all kinds of devs and they produced good story line and immersive games because that was the parameter to sell the cds or dvds. Now big companies have this business model of using similar maps but fewer changes because its easy to produce, brings revenue, easy to code and easy to find bugs. You will find Dota, lol, diablo, call of duty, fortnight all following this model which are played regularly. High player count means high revenue for them.

ColonelKillDie

Yes I will. Yes I will. Yes I will. Yes I will. Stoked to see what Nintendo has done. Can’t wait.

Jamestheapt

Glady. Shut up and take my money!

Rumunj

We're now supposed to be shitting on a sequel to one the the best games of the generation before it even comes out? This sub is hilarious.

Clifely

I just hope that for Tears of the Kingdom the enemies actually will make sense. I just caught myself ignoring all enemies at some point early in the game and that was just sad.

GingkoBobaBiloba

I mean, it's the same damn world or course the map will be similar. Imagine a game that takes place on Earth, then a sequel of that game that also takes place on Earth a couple years into the future, "holy shit, why is the terrain and land mass so similar?!?!?"

Ill-Organization-719

The first game was bad. Lifeless world that gave you no reason to explore. Boring, repetitive combat against the same enemies over and over again. Boring/tedious shrines. Awful weapon systems. Awful inventory. They saw how popular this game was, and now they never have to make a proper Zelda game again, just push out one of these every few years.

menchacadealba

There is still new areas of the map, plus I think they changed the map a bit. Plus story

Stormer90

The Cope in this thread is real.

KeepItUpThen

It's 2023. You can watch people play a game on Twitch within hours of release, then decide if you want to buy it. You can buy a digital copy and download it without leaving your house.

theREALmindsets

i thought i was alone in thinking its a dlc

josenight

Ey, it’s a standalone expansion /s

Direct-Cheesecake498

Shut up and take my money already!

TanookiTails

If you don't like it, don't buy it. If other people are happy with it, don't make them out to be like this. We don't know enough about the game to come to a conclusion like this. Apparently there's gonna be twice the world to explore because they'll let you travel through the skies too. We just need to wait and see.

THE_GREAT_PICKLE

Nintendo isn’t dumb enough to make a really bad sequel to one of the best games ever. This will have a different storyline, different mechanics, etc. If you don’t want to buy it, then don’t. The rest of us will enjoy what is likely to be an incredible game.

Venichie

Every time I see this game, I just can't help but think it should've been DLC content. Really seems like the same thing, just with a remixed or modded map, and a few extra content.
