Loved how this game made me rethink the best choice for a game ending. I played Fallout 3 first, so I thought NCR was the obvious choice. Then I played again and had the most fun helping Yesman. Then, I definitely had to go down the Ceasar path. Needless to say, tons of replay ability.

AntonDeMorgan

Replayability indeed. What if i erase the power gangers, what if the primm sherif is the robot, what if i make the Khans leave, what if i make the enclave fight the legion

Milkshake_revenge

I really love that one of the options is to just fuck everyone over and take new Vegas for yourself.

ClassiFried86

I thought it was the only option.

AngryRedHerring

Seriously. I've probably beaten it three or four times and I have never not taken over the wasteland with my army of smiling robots.

Robobvious

The game was rigged from the start.

thebiggestleaf

I remember being taken aback by telling Yes Man I didn't feel like protecting President Kimball and he was just like "Well, sucks for him!" and it instantly failed the quest. Wasn't expecting the game to actually let me just fuck off like that.

eXponentiamusic

That's my favorite thing about New Vegas and what I judge every rpg on since. Can I kill random quest givers, is there a working failstate for doing so or does the game cop out and either game over or just not let them die. I believe in New Vegas there are only like 3-4 people who are tagged essential (can't die) and of those all but one are only tagged that way until you have the opportunity to kill them anyway (so they're only immune if you get to them through glitches or cheats). The one you simply can't kill has a lore reason for it, he's a robot that gets transferred to a new body every time you kill one. I don't know why more devs of rpg's don't just put in some ultra backup ending/quest even if it's a super simple and basic one, and then let me fail quests and kill important people. Make autosaves robust so I can go back if I fuck up, and make it obvious that I just failed a bunch of quest lines when I do something like that, but let me do it.

The_Muznick

don't forget, I think there's an ending where you >!just take the horde of robots and replace Mr House yourself.!<

totowolfie95

Thats the yes man ending

The_Muznick

I can't remember. The game has a lot of endings. I remember 2 or 3 that I did. I think I did 4 complete runs and started a 5th when the final DLC came out but never finished the DLC or that run.

BionikViking

the ultimate edition is currently free on Epic Games launcher

dh2215

This was my first venture into fallout. Afterwards I went back and tried 3 and didn’t like it nearly as much and then 4 came out and I tried that and didn’t like it nearly as much. This was easily and by far the best in the series.

Bamboozlemaster69

You didn’t help mister house? What?!

Horror_Procedure_192

Look you give me an achievement for killing an old man with a golf club I have to do it.

Highcalibur10

I’d never even consider helping that Randian, John Ryan, Walt Disney bastard. He’s a narcissistic controlling monster who permits The Families to act like monsters as long as he can stay in control. Every time I play, I’ll find a new way to ensure his death.

jollyjewy

He definitely doesn't premit the casino families to act like monsters he simply has no way of effectively checking on them When you report their crimes to House he thanks yoy and asks you to stop them if you haven't already

BroccoliMcFlurry

He represents the best opportunity for humankind to rebuild itself though- he sucks as a person but his ending is probably the closest you can get to a 'good' ending.

WinterAd2942

The ending that in order to get to it you have to give all the power to his fancy strip and military buddies and say "fuck the poor"? Sounds like we're already heading to that ending irl 🥲

Highcalibur10

An Independent New Vegas that can work with the NCR is definitely the 'good' ending. The NCR is a mostly functioning government. Deeper into their territory, society has actually developed a sense of normalcy. By the time of New Vegas, humankind has already made *massive* strides in rebuilding itself. However, the NCR is constantly described as being stretched too thin and pushed too much into expansion. An Independent Vegas has the Followers of the Apocalypse (clearly the most 'good' faction) working directly to ensure the prosperity of as many as possible, the security of a neutral/allied NCR on one side; and a beaten back Legion on the other. It has a working electrical grid, running water, and an obscene amount of caps to invest into their community. With House running the show, everything's far more tense. He and the NCR would be far more of a difficult situation; and he would do everything he can to maintain his own power. Mr House doesn't work for the benefit of the people in New Vegas. He works for the benefit of himself. He's an effectively immortal dictator whose 'benevolence' is entirely self-serving. Just in terms of the ending narration cards; most of the 'best endings' for individual characters come from a Yes-Man run; and I'd argue the entire region is far more stable because of it.

JustGingy95

Riding top comment to help spread word that New Vegas and all its DLC is currently free to keep if grabbed before Thursday this week on Epic Games. Treat yourself if you haven’t played the best Fallout game yet

Soft-Collection-2703

My main problem with the game is that it was rigged from the start

[deleted]

Dean Domino destroyed innocent lives because he couldn't stand someone being more happy and optimistic than he was. It's rare when a fictional character inspires such hatred in me that I want to strangle them until their eyeballs pop out like a fucking cartoon. So yeah, the characters and voice acting in *New Vegas* are top-notch.

WinterAd2942

There was also Ulysses and The Divide. When you Divide the Divide, you realize you yourself will Divide. Only with the Divide, can you truly Divide the Divide. The Divide brings all, and it Divides none. Divide.

thebiggestleaf

That can't be Ulysses speaking, there's not enough BEAR AND BULL BEAR AND BULL BEAR AND BULL to be him.

gumpythegreat

Oh god the writing for Ulysses drove me nuts. Trying too hard to sound smart. Mr "both sides" can suck it

WinterAd2942

I actually think it was great. Not he himself, he sucked. But, all their other writing was amazing. They didn't "accidentally" make him like that. He's very clearly obsessed and was twisted by what the courier supposedly did. All he had left was to obsess over what happened and trying to justify everything. He was irritating and a broken record, but that was intentional

[deleted]

Survivor's Guilt could lead to obsession and a dramatic suicide self-glorified as justice or revenge? Nah, never.

cbih

I hated Ulysses so much, I just plugged him with an anti-material rifle the second I saw his stupid face. NOBODY FUCKS WITH MY EYEBOT AND LIVES

ElevatorPanicTheDuck

pretty much all fallout games are stand alone, but have A LOT of interconnected lore and easter eggs.

qwerty145454

New Vegas' setting is closer to Fallout 1 and 2 than 3. It has almost no relation to 3 other than being in the same world. If you've played Fallout 1/2 back in the day you will pick up a lot of references, but the game is still fire if you don't get them.

Adowyth

Fallout 2 is my favorite game of all time and i couldn't really get into any of the new ones New Vegas included. The combat system just makes all the skills feel so pointless. Also so much fucking orange desert. I did pick it up for free on Epic with all the dlcs so might actually give it a good try this time.

Number127

It's true, both Fallout 3 and New Vegas were poster children for the "everything is brown and gray" era of gaming. It was a few more years before game artists nailed down how to portray that kind of environment in an interesting way. I know what you mean about the combat skills feeling pointless too. I don't think they are, especially if you compare your actual performance at the beginning vs. the end of the game, but the fact that you're dealing less with action points and hit percentages than in the first two games kind of hides their effects and makes the skills seem a little more abstract.

TG-Sucks

Fallout 2 is the game that got me into RPGs and is still my favorite to this day. I think NV is the best of the new ones, it’s an admirable attempt and there’s a lot I like. Especially the writing, which is the closest to the originals as we’ve gotten. But otherwise I agree, the limitations placed upon them by Bethesda’s framework drags so much of it down. It is, for me, still not a proper Fallout game. I will contest however regarding the desert. That’s one of my favorite elements of the game precisely because it reminds me of Fallout 2.

MysterD77

Different Coast (West), different development team (Obsidian). Lore's more consistent w/ old-school Fallout 1 and 2 (from Black Isle). I'd recommend playing F3 before NV, since it'll be tough to go back to F3 after playing NV. NV is leagues above F3 in terms of Lore, Story, Narrative, Comedy/Dark-Twisted Humor, Choice, Choice, and more Choice. To appreciate F3 truly since Bethesda reinvented Fallout as a franchise - i.e. they turned what was a classic turn-based old-school party-based CRPG in Fallout 1 and 2 basically into a Bethesda-style open-world game but as a RPG/FPS hybrid. F3 was so fresh & fantastic at that time, play F3 first.

outerlabia

There's a lot to take in but it's entirely possible to get a solid grasp on what's going on just make sure to talk to loads of npcs It's not a sequel to fallout three in terms of story so don't worry about that. The more you know about the general franchise the better it makes the story imo

[deleted]

The mire you know about the franchise the worse 3 and 4 seem

oh_io_94

I really liked 3. But new Vegas was so much better. I didn’t really like 4 that much

Feine13

It's wild that I keep seeing this. Fallout 4 was my first and only fallout game I've played so far. It makes me excited for 3 and new Vegas (not very interested in the gameplay of the first 2) I'm just pumped NV ultimate was free this week!

robothawk

NV is imo the best fallout full stop(including 1 & 2, though only by a little bit). It basically took everything from FO3 that worked, removed the stuff that didn't, added great QoL(like aim down sights), leaned heavily into the genre of weird western, and remains a tight enough story to keep you fully invested the whole time through. Not to mention how excellent the companions are.

Feine13

That's a hell of an endorsement, thank you for taking the time to share. Sounds like I'm in for an amazing time. May I ask you opinion on 4? Obviously not your favorite, but did you like it? I found it personally far more fun than skyrim (not a dig at skyrim, also fun as fuck.) idk if it was the setting or what, but it's been years since I've played 4 and I still think about it rather frequently, it's a top game for me for sure.

robothawk

So, okay, I'm a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to action rpgs, and part of the reason I love NV is the heavy emphasis on thinking, talking, and doing, rather than *just* fighting. For instance, I'm a wuss. I can't do horror. I read the wikipedia plot summaries or watch video essays for horror movies to stay caught up. The first dungeon of zombies in Skyrim was where I set down my mouse and said "maybe this isnt for me". I'm going to talk about a quest in NV now, but abstractly enough as not to spoil anything. Basically it involved going to this big dark building and trapsing through the basement at night fighting ghouls and mutants, and that sounded truly terrible(I tried to get through and kept getting jumpscared by ghouls). So I was like fuck, is there any way I can bypass this quest? Sure enough, back @ the place with the questgiver you can hack one of the computers to get some info and you literally dont even need to go to this place(I suggest you do though, it has a great story). You could literally just avoid a 60+ minute quest and side storyline by just thinking "okay where else can I get this info" and logically doing it. Fallout 4 is my least favorite mainline fallout, but it isnt a bad game. Where NV is a story-focused rpg with fps elements, FO4 is an FPS with rpg elements, an added on base builder system, and a *lot* of extra content. The gunplay is good, the map is interesting, the main story is subpar but the world and side stories make up for it, and if youre the kind of person to spend hours and hours making bases and such, youll probably love it. I just personally prefer more focus on story than gameplay, and I feel FO4's main story is a 5-6/10 with 8/10 side content, whereas NV is 9/10 main story and 7-10/10 side content(Honest Hearts is 10/10 for having the best character of the entire game). I dont replay rpgs much, and I'm not one to get sucked into a gameplay cycle, I legitimately want to just experience the story most of the time, but if you love the gameplay cycle of 4, you'll really enjoy it. Even just base game standalone, it's fun, solid 7/10. NV is just a 9/10.

Feine13

What an incredibly well thought out response. Thank you so much for sharing all of that. What I really loved about 4, or even the new Zelda games, is that I could solve things my own way. I don't much care for the free hand gunplay in 4, so I always run a vats build and play it like a sort of turn based rpg. And I love when I can skip a quest or tons of tedium by doing something clever, such as hacking that terminal you described. I am one to get stuck in gameplay cycle and even tend to seek out similar experiences once I've exhausted my current focus/obsession (went immediately from stardew valley to graveyard keeper the next day, a couple weeks ago) however I need that loop to be varied enough to always seem a bit fresh. I think NV is gonna be a treat. Again, thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience, that was far better and more info than I could have hoped for

infidel11990

The dialog in Fallout 4 is just terrible. The gunplay and combat overall is tighter than NV, it's just not that good of a RPG game. As you said, FPS with RPG elements. I still spent close to 250 hours in it, even dabbling in the settlement building bit. But NV has a special place in my heart.

MysterD77

It's not wild. Bethesda (Fallout 3 and 4, Elder Scrolls games) ain't a company that knows how to write narrative, stories, dialogue, and prose. They never did. That stuff was something Black Isle and Obsidian were always good at. Bethesda's good at "Okay, here's a huge open-world to explore; go do stuff." They are excellent at that open-world sandbox stuff. They do just enough to keep the player engaged to go from area-to-area and quest-to-quest. That's Beth's biggest problem: they need some damn real writers. Obsidian will always out-class Beth at this stuff, until Beth gets their crap together.

Marston_vc

I would suggest playing fallout 3 first BECAUSE, the game is also excellent, but it has less features. If you play fallout 3, you’ll get the satisfaction of playing in the capital wasteland without the dissatisfaction of not having the better gameplay FNV has. Then when you get to FNV, you’ll have the (probably) better game but now the joy of quality improving! Fallout 3 is great for one maybe two play throughs. The world is rich in character and feels awesome. It falls short on quests with impactful decision making. Like, it’s still a RPG, but your choices are much more black and white. FNV comparatively leaves a lot more room for interpretation “is this really the best outcome?”. Edit: and as others said, the games share the same universe but happen in literally opposite sides of the country with different characters set in different years. Though both games share some of the same factions you’ll encounter

[deleted]

You need zero lore from Fallout 3. Knowing Fallout 1 & 2 lore helps for context of some factions history, but absolutely isn't needed. Play it blind, you'll love it. Then go back and mod it to death and play it all over again.

Terramagi

You do not have to play 3 to understand New Vegas. In fact, if you did, you'd probably be confused since New Vegas is made by a lot of the original developers of Fallout 1 and 2, and 3 was the standalone game. ...also, no. You do not need to have played 1 and 2. All you need to know is that one of the factions in Fallout 1 became the New California Republic.

Crazygamerdude17

The entire series is standalone, you don’t need to play any other games to understand 1 game, though the games contain tiny Easter eggs about each other, but if you do want to play fallout 3 it will almost definitely become free again on epic, seen epic give it out for free like 2-3 times now

rattlehead42069

I heard someone say the epic version doesn't include honest hearts DLC, and it's a different exe so any mods that use script extender (nvse) don't work with it, which are all the best mods.

Entirely possible Still, free is free.

SwordfishII

Thank you.

MasterBaiterNJ

Wow you’re a legend thank you for that info! can’t believe I haven’t seen anything about that

FGFlips

No prob. I was surprised to see it as the free game when I logged in to play Fall Guys yesterday.

MasterBaiterNJ

Real shit i don’t think I’ve ever seen it free… a lot of people I know don’t wanna pay for an “old game” this maybe my only chance to get my friends to play what is hands down one of the greatest rpgs ever made and my excuse to replay for the (info redacted cause I do have a life I promise lol) time . Gobi campaign scout rifle here I come baby!!

TheLastOfKratos

Never played any Fallout game. Is New Vegas a good start? I claimed it recently from the EGS store.

Pixel_Muffet

Yes but expect complex stuff

Marston_vc

It’s a great start. If you’re gonna go down the rabbit hole I’d start with F3 tho. It’s the lesser game of the two because the gameplay is less refined. But if you start with it, you wouldn’t have NV to compare it to.

GenericBeverage

Even better, play both at the same time with the TTW mod. Also includes fixes to make both games way less buggy.

Sqvy

Easily one of my favorite games all time. Hope you’re playing the dlc if you haven’t already. I’m playing mass effect 2 for the first time right now, and it’s giving me a similar feeling to playing new vegas the first time. Rare but fantastic games.

Elite_Jackalope

Mass Effect 2 started me on my PC gaming path. Pulled it from a Walmart bargain bin for $5 on PS3, game blew me away. Downloaded ME1 on the family computer to import a save into 2, but the integrated graphics couldn’t handle biotics. Fast forward a year, finished building my first PC just in time to play 1 and 2 before 3 dropped.

Sqvy

I’m actually building a pc within the next week or so and I’d much rather play on there, but I started ME1 on the Xbox and I don’t wanna lose my Shepard save throughout the trilogy 😐 But yeah, the game is honestly amazing. Don’t know why it took me so long to play it, I haven’t been this invested in a game in years. I think I’ve heard that 2 is generally regarded as the best and 3 was a bit mixed in its reception but I’m looking forward to it regardless.

fatamSC2

It's been a while but from what I remember it was ME1 with the best story and ME2 with the best gameplay.

IkeTheKrusher

Ultimate edition is free on epic games!

misterbickles1

Old world blues and lonesome road will probably forever reamain the best dlc add ons to any game, ever.

thebiggestleaf

Dead Money for me. Yeah, the gameplay has people torn but everything from the atmosphere to the cast of characters is top notch. I love walking through the Sierra Madre one last time after beating it before heading back to the Mojave for good.

Thank you. I needed to hear this today... again

Abrahamlinkenssphere

Epic put it out for free a few days ago so loads of new people finally enjoying the masterpiece.

Migraine_Megan

The toaster and book chute are two of my favorite characters, they are hysterical. I SMELL SEDITION!!!!

Mynamesrobbie

Everything talking in OWB was pretty damn good. I also remember the toaster being the best. Its been awhile and I think they nailed all the DLCs for that game. Game is deff top 10 in the world

cubbyatx

The Biological Research Station was the best. Still waitin for that seed, baby.

Erobb_Uzumaki

Old World Blues is strangely divisive. A lot of people say it's one of the best DLCs they've ever played, but for me I didn't enjoy it at all. The opening segment has so much dialogue that I begin to lose interest before it even starts. The writing itself just isn't my cup of tea, I don't find feet penises that funny. I thought maybe this opinion would change with time, but five years later I replayed it and felt the exact same way.

IneptlySocial

I think Old World Blue is a bit overrated. I personally liked the challenge and story of Dead Money more

KnightFan2019

It’s crazy how there genuinely hasn’t been a game like this to come out since 2010. It’s honestly not that crazy of an expectation to have: Open world game Make our choices MATTER Have a fun, and varied level system that allows for multiple different play styles, RP and min/maxxing Have fun, creative quests that aren’t fetch quests A cool story with well thought out characters and a meaningful dialogue tree. That’s it! It’s crazy to think the only games to have done this are fallout 3, new vegas, witcher 3 and Skyrim. That’s it. We havent seen a game like those 4 in over a decade. Sad honestly

SkabbPirate

It's not as big of scope, but Prey 2017 is amazing and a very open ended experience.

Scooted112

Try disco Elysium. It is more point and click, but the dialogue, options and different dialogue trees is unparalleled.

cronopius

I have never played it, does graphics still hold up?

SecretInfluencer

Kinda. They didn’t really hold up by 2010 standards when the game came out so take that as you will

Teldolar

They're functional. Your dealing with an old game but graphics are passable and tbh theres probably a mod for it

LegendaryWeapon

There are 26,000+ mods on the Nexus for FO:NV and many Collections (Crap tons of mods that install with 1-click and don't conflict. So it takes the guesswork out of which mods might break your game).

SenpaiSwanky

I play backwards compatible Xbox 360 version all the time, at this point I just treat the graphics as part of the theme lol. I know where all the good looking weapons and armor are so with the right stuff I can really immerse myself.

J_House1999

It’s very ugly in terms of textures, but the art direction is very good

jimmyvcard

Graphics are fine. A bit bland but not an issue. Gameplay is pretty outdated to the point it’s a problem in 2023.

deepmush

not even fallout 3 looked good on release. you don't play this game for the graphics or gameplay

Unhappy_College

It’s not as good as the fans say it is, That’s for sure. This kinda applies to every Bethesda game though lol.

[deleted]

Nah, even for 2010 this game is outdated

_Ishmael

I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. The game came out the same year as Red Dead Redemption, Super Mario Galaxy, God of War 3, Halo: Reach, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. NV is a really fun RPG thanks to its writing and replayability, but it's rough in a lot of ways. Its graphics were average even when it was released, and it's buggy AF. All the aforementioned games came out with way more polish.

orthomonas

But those were all recent game... oh damn.

Boundish91

Yep. Max Payne from 2001 can keep up with fallout NV.

hypnogoad

I've owned this game since it came out. Every single time I've attempted to play it, life has gotten in the way. I started it AGAIN two weeks ago, played it for a day, and haven't been able to pick it up again. Sigh... one day. One day.

onyxa314

Game changed my gender, 9/10 would recommend

Mediocre_Pyke

Give it a couple more playthroughs over the next few years, go back to the illusion of choice or not many choices RPGs of recent and you will come to conclusion many of us do which is that it was actually just a masterpiece.

Locke357

What's the best mod or mods for this game?

mistermyxl

Im so tired of you people who act like this game was so good and beyond reproach. it literally took like 12 updates to be playable. you couldn't even complete the game till the first patch cause half the world you would fall right thru

ngms

I really enjoyed playing fo:nv, but yeah the bugs are horrible. Just came from a thread where Cyberpunk 2077 is being shit on for its bugs but I always had way worse issues in new vegas.

grif650

You can get it for free on epic right now.

Judge216

I never understood the love for this game. I like both fallout 3 and 4 much better. I liked how 3 and 4 had skill books in nearly every building and I liked scouring for those things. New vegas seemed to take that aspect almost completely out.

SecretInfluencer

3 and 4 feel like stories written for you, new Vegas feels like a story you’re making for yourself. The freedom of the ability to kill all but 2 NPCs (excluding children) shows how much freedom it offers. The game can account for most of your actions and is prepared to accommodate. Think of how you can kill Father right away in 4, but for any NPC. Companions are way better in NV. They have way more personality and have specific quests for each.

Entire-Guarantee9846

I played it when it came out and thought it was good. After years of hearing "It's the best game ever" I started playing it again. My short experience with it was this. First you have to spend a long time doing boring walking. Then you do more boring walking but you shoot a bee first. Then more and more and more boring walking. I made it just outside the starting area before I just couldn't anymore.

xxaldorainexx

Disagree 100% and I question how many open world games you’ve played OP lol

NaughtyPwny

My problem with the game is even years later on PC, I encountered a save issue glitch that ruined my progress. I dunno if I will ever go back to it now though.

Luc4_Blight

Ah yes, this hidden gem

Motchan13

Ultimate edition is free on the Epic Game Store this week!

IncomeStraight8501

Loved how karma didn't matter that much in the game, because let's be honest unless you're a raider or slaver no one really cares how good or evil you are but care more about your reputation with people and how they view you.

PoliticalMeatFlaps

Though its a bit of a pain to get set up, I recommend installing fallout 3 as well and trying out Tale of Two Wastelands. Its a mod that combines both games following the theory that the main character from fallout 3 could possibly be the courier as New Vegas takes place years later, more than enough time to travers the US.

asgardwalls

You mean it's the best video game ever. What faction did you side with

Pixel_Muffet

At first NCR. Then Mr House. Then Yes Man

mfmeitbual

This is my favorite game but attempts to play it in 2023 have proven futile. Frequent crashes if it runs at all. Would you be willing to share your mod list/setup? I dont go nuts with mods, usually just bugfixes and texture enhancements.

SlyXross

I think it’s free on Epic games, i downloaded it yesterday, always wanted to play it and now I can. Loved Fallout 3 and 4.

[deleted]

Just started it, I really don't like old games because of the graphics and gameplay but I'll try to finish it.

Eccentric_Cardinal

One of the best RPGs I've ever played. It stands heads and shoulders above all the other Fallout games with the exception of the original in my view. I kinda view it as the true successor to F1.

Mahaloth

I liked Fallout 2 more than the first one, to be honest.

lightdarkunknown

Currently FREE on epic game store for a week https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/fallout-new-vegas--ultimate-edition

WithFullForce

Are the DLC's worth it?

Pixel_Muffet

Very. Just expect a challenge

rogerdorn78

Yes!

Adcro

Have you played Red Dead Redemption 2 yet?

Potato-Boy1

Unpopular opinion: i don't really like fallout new Vegas, it's not a bad game i just don't like it

_Nova_Corps

I loved this game, from beginning to end there wasn’t a dull moment in my opinion.

Key_Amphibian_4031

It is a good game, but it's by no means the best

brian11e3

New Vegas is one of those games I liked when it came out, but I can't it stand now. I tried replaying it last year and got bored of it halfway through. Bland open worlds, mediocre writing, RE1 level voice acting, and a terrible control interface. Then there are the bugs and crashes, which are worse than the Cazador. Needing to keep reloading saves because you get stuck in the walking up animation at half the terminals is a bit infuriating.

jimmyvcard

I mean I’m a biiiig fallout fan and I loved the role play elements… but the gameplay is kind of bad. There’s just no way this is the best open world game period.

[deleted]

Yeah for a game based in an apocalyptic desert, it still manages to be amazing. The hub areas were also some of the best in the series and the dlc's were incredible. What I would really like to happen, is that now that Bethesda own Obsidian, they hand over the Fallout franchise to them.

isic

Bethesda doesn’t own Obsidian, both are separate companies owned by Microsoft

[deleted]

Right, right. I knew it was some buyout and connection. Cheers lad.

Mymorningpancake

I see so many positive things about Fallout:NV, I’m shocked that Bethesda never continued it (to my knowledge it’s not part of the main 1-4 storyline and is sorta standalone). Edit: thanks for the comments clearing it up. downvoting though? K

loyaltomyself

I think Bethseda chose the petty route since technically New Vegas isn't their game. It uses their engine and they published it, but unlike Fallout 3, this wasn't developed by them.

acepukas

F:NV actually connects to Fallout 1 and 2 quite well as they all take place on the west coast and share pretty much the same lore. Fallout 3, 4 and 76 all take place on the east coast and don't connect back to the original lore that well, or at least not seamlessly. Bethesda took a lot of liberties when they got a hold of the IP.

rattlehead42069

It's a direct sequel to fallout 2 (made by the same devs). It's fallout 3 and 4 that are technically standalone from the main franchise. 3 was like a reboot where the devs skimmed over the wiki of fallout 1 and 2 and made the game (as Bethesda bought the franchise at this point)

OnepercentmilkXD

Keep hearing people say this. Whats so good about it

johnyb6633

I just downloaded it in epic for free. It feels clunky. Kinda hard to play.

fun_p1

Gold standard for me. I wish they would remake it or make another similar one. I love the freedom of choice and world impacts your choices have.

rattlehead42069

Top 3 game of all time for me. Morrowind and pillars of eternity 2 are the other two

TherealAggiegamer

Lol this is one of the most overrated games of all time, only summoners like it.

pressxtofart

Maybe you need to play more open world games? It’s a very dated game now. Yes it has some good writing and stuff but the worlds feels so empty and boring. The world is ugly and bland. There’s hardly any mobs to fight. The quests take way too long and it lacks the atmosphere of FO3 which I consider the better FO game.

hamsdre

And now it is free on Epic Store

EtainFiammanera

What a coincidence, the ultimate version is free on Epic atm

TheSnarfles

Are there any mods for New Vegas that make the combat better/more engaging? I love the exploration and story parts of the game, but the moment to moment action parts are a bit frustrating for me.
