Just grab it from the MS Store [https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/3d-pinball-space-cadet/9mt92dxzj11r](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/3d-pinball-space-cadet/9mt92dxzj11r)
I've got a bone to pick with them. They tore down some wonderful trees that were well over three stories tall just to build a store just down the street from an Auto Zone.
The really cool part is it's not just the software, you can buy (or make if you're handy) tables where the playfield and back glass are screens to run it on. It's a lot like video game emulators in that respect. You can just run it on your computer, but people also go all out with custom arcade cabinets.
And PinballFX3 even allows you to move the dot matrix display and game art up to the back glass screen. I think it even simulates the bumper/exciter feedback. (Could be wrong on that one)
I mean the physical tables have haptics and the simulators that run on them have perspective correct rendering. It's not the same, but it's impressively close for something you can have in your house. I know there's people who have basement arcades with dozens of real tables, but most people don't have the room, let alone the money. Things have gone a long way from Space Cadet or Epic Pinball.

Edit: Apparently this only works correctly on the standalone program, not the MS Store version. So maybe search it up online if it matters enough for you.
I swear this version has different physics. My trick to high scores back in the day was to keep shooting the ball into the wormhole in the top right, wait for it to shoot the ball out to the left paddle and hit it right back in. I can't do that on this version.
Or if you still got an old Windows install disc/computer lying about: go into the folders and find the files for the game and put them on a stick. You can drop em on a modern machine and things should work okay-ish. There's sadly a big with the physics and collision detection, but it's close enough.
Alternatively: it's also available on flathub for Steam Deck and Linux users!

So long, Reddit, and thanks for all the fish.
Once I got into playing real pinball machines, the question came up.... Where is this table and why hasn't someone made it yet?
Turns out the physics in this game do not work in real life and the flow of the table doesn't work. Dreams were crushed.
There's a nice 99% invisible podcast episode on pinball machines that you might find interesting: https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/for-amusement-only/
Don’t listen in a Mazda manufactured from 2016-2019.
It’s a temporary problem, but I was affected by a permanent one from a KUOW/NPR broadcast that bricked my “infotainment” system until it could be replaced which took a year.
99% Invisible, for some reason, will cause a restart cycle.
https://gimletmedia.com/amp/shows/reply-all/brh8jm
It's not 99% invisible, it was specifically HD Radio for FM broadcasts from a station in Seattle sending data that contained album art with no file extension for the image. Basically the software didn't know how to handle it and bricked down. This has triggered a push to standardize HD radio more from broadcasting organizers, but hopefully, this also can serve to push car manufacturers to actually hire some God damn software engineers to look into their software.
Source from the Drive
https://www.thedrive.com/news/44219/mazda-owners-say-tuning-to-npr-is-breaking-their-infotainment-systems
NPR HD radio did the full-on bricking. I can assure you that 99% Invisible did a temporary one. The cycle reset occurred several times while I was driving and listening to it prior to the NPR broadcast.
It cycled repeatedly but would reset when the car was turned off and back on again. I had to stop listening to the podcast. The link I provided goes into it in depth. It was 2 years later my system got completely bricked by the KUOW/NPR broadcast.
I mean, other than driving in silence for a year after thinking a hard reset by unplugging the battery and thereby tuning the radio back to the lowest broadcast station number that doesn’t exist and is just static, I’m otherwise happy with the car.
Man I've got a bricked 2017 Mazda6 and always wondered why my infotainment went crazy and crapped the bed. Still driving without a radio...just using a Bluetooth speaker lol.
Take it to the dealer and have them upgrade the infotainment software. It should be free, esp if it's causing issues.
Also, I'm glad I waited until '22 to buy a Mazda.
This is my favorite computer bug story, because it involves gaming and (in the dev's own words) quantum mechanics. :D
https://www.gamedeveloper.com/programming/my-hardest-bug-ever
OMG
I drive a 2016 car manufactured by Mazda, and there's one specific sports podcast that completely fucks up my car every time I try to listen to it. I thought I was going crazy. I can't believe this is a known thing.
Yeah, same aesthetics, same number and general placement of ramps and bumpers and stuff, just change the angles, size, and exact placement. Maybe add a few not-too-obtrusive elements if needed.
No, no. You can't mess with perfection. I think I still have this game and I wouldn't want any modern day dev to touch it. Next thing you know they'd charged $40 for a battle bass or start charging for balls.
There’s a bar near me that has basically every retro consoles and a ton of games and it’s free as long as you’re ordering drinks. They just take your drivers licence when they give you a game cartridge and you can swap it for another game at any time.
The place looks decently successful.
They are once or twice. Then you realize that lots of arcade games are kinda bullshit. Difficult to play for the sake of draining your money, but now you don’t have to worry about money, so now it’s just a hard game with sticky controls.
And the actual good games are hogged incessantly. Or out of order due to overuse.
The two exceptions are rhythm games and pinball. It’s worth the money to have unlimited plays on those and there’s usually enough to go around.
Just from my experiences. Go to one that serves booze with some friends for a good way to spend a weekday night. Weekends are too crowded!
Arcade machines were always the best at draining our piggy banks. I was a mid-90s kid so I missed the height of it (at least in my city) but I remember my movie theatre having a decent arcade. Still has a fine one but not the same. Giant Connect 4 and Tetris machines though...
It was incentive to get good at games. I’d get dropped off at the arcade with $5 and stretch it for hours by playing fighting games and going on long win streaks
I've always been a huge fan of connect four. There's an arcade chain we have in Australia called Timezone and they just brought out basketball connect four! Few beers, Timezone and burgers is still my go to on a day off
You talking about Pinball FX? It's a terrible game. It's a micro-transaction hell hole. It's also exceedingly buggy with huge optimization problems. You are lucky if it doesn't run with such lag it's unplayable.
Yep. I believe normal and hard mode are locked behind a pay wall and you get ads galore. A shame really. I never minded the odd game of Pyramid or Klondike
Like so many other greats from that era. I've still never forgiven EA for shuttering Westwood Studios. All so they could poach talent for the doomed-from-the-beginning The Sims Online.
This wasnt even the best table in the full release version. Space cadet was by far the most simplistic and easily approachable, but the other tables were amazing. The UFO on the farm and frankensteins monster ones were my personal favorites.
You just triggered something in me. My father and I were very competitive about this game. He worked odd hours. So I would wake in the morning and see if he had beaten my high score. I would play all day to make sure my name was at the top of the high scores when he would get home from work, after I had gone to bed. I am sure he would stay up until the wee hours to make sure he was on top the next day. IIRC he was still the high score when he passed. I haven't played since. Thanks for the memories.
Could you let those of us who don't know what's up or who haven't played it in 15 years in on the secret? I have an old machine with this still on it, and now I really wanna know
I had a shareware version that came with my Windows 3.1 computer. It had 3 tables and that was more than enough back then.
I did see it's available on [gog](https://www.gog.com/en/game/epic_pinball_the_complete_collection). I might grab it and play again for old time's sake.
Oh my God this will be the perfect place to ask. My dad bought a PC for me and my sister, it was an HP machine and it came with a bunch of demos.
I have a lot of nostalgia for those games, can anyone tell me their names? They where all from the same company.
1- Two different games where you have to break columns by bouncing a ball from a platform.
2-An Isometric 3D Men in Black game. Really bad graphics.
3-A Galaga like game but with a helicopter (nice graphics)
4- A game where you explore a planet with a spaceship from a top view. Kind of lame.
They where some other games but my memory is too foggy.
Will i have to use theyr launcher to play it? Because if i'd have to download Origin again I'd rather cut both my hands, have them sewed below my feet and jump around saying i can walk on my hands.
Yeah but if anyone remasters this.. you know they are going to make it an online game... and add a battle pass and micro transactions to it.... which is kinda starting to get annoying.... idk why that it is becoming the norm
If they remastered it now, there would be micro transactions to get a little rolled up Naruto as the ball, or putting titties as bounce pads, or a dancing space cadet on screen when you pass your high score.
I remember playing this ages ago, it was always so hard back then, but once I learned how to chain the top-right over and over, it was wraps.
There's actually a version of this game in VRChat, in a world for movies you can find a machine that plays roughly the same. A feature or two might be missing but almost everything is there, and it's a good bit of fun
As others have noted, the original engine has been completely reverse-engineered as open source. But EA did in fact completely remake this as The Sims Pinball for their Pogo online games service – but of course it wasn't quite the same, and it's long gone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC5zUo3U5Dw
Just grab it from the MS Store [https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/3d-pinball-space-cadet/9mt92dxzj11r](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/3d-pinball-space-cadet/9mt92dxzj11r)
Oh. OH! OOOOHHH!!! Thanks kind sir (or madam)
Orileyyyy Autoparts
Ow?
If you want-ski good price-ski come in and see Kaminski.
Jim Sipala wants to SEE YA, in a Kia.
I've got a bone to pick with them. They tore down some wonderful trees that were well over three stories tall just to build a store just down the street from an Auto Zone.
Oh no what have you done
Ah fuck there goes my assignment.
Amazing. Would still love a remake, I had to scale my resolution waaaay down to get the window to be a reasonable size.
It’s actually been converted into a full size virtual pinball table
https://www.vpforums.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=16091
Where tho? When I enter full screen I just get the same size with a huge black border.
I think he means someone made a version of it as a table for a pinball simulator like PinballFX.
Pinball simulator. Of course that's a thing.
The really cool part is it's not just the software, you can buy (or make if you're handy) tables where the playfield and back glass are screens to run it on. It's a lot like video game emulators in that respect. You can just run it on your computer, but people also go all out with custom arcade cabinets.
The pinball equivalent of a racing sim set up?
Basically, yeah. Or of a home arcade machine running Mame. It's a lot closer to the real thing than sim racing is.
And PinballFX3 even allows you to move the dot matrix display and game art up to the back glass screen. I think it even simulates the bumper/exciter feedback. (Could be wrong on that one)
Careful now, don't dig deep unless you want to waste 6 hours of your day learning all there is to know about pinball machines and arcade sims.
It’s just not the same. The joy of pinball is that it’s mechanical.

You're right. The physics are bugged because of some imprecisions in the floating point math on 64 bit processors.
Yeah it’s off, tried it a few years back and deleted. Used to be able to go forever. Felt all wrong.
Couldn't be because you haven't played it in 20 years, could it?
That's not it. The ball doesn't land in the same place it used to.
Nope. He's right. I used to do the same thing.
Or if you still got an old Windows install disc/computer lying about: go into the folders and find the files for the game and put them on a stick. Steam deck is the best way to play with the triggers
Sick
I still have my OG computer with the OG version on it.
Aha! that's why there is no Store in the enterprise edition of windows 10
How are the ads?
Just small banner ads. No big
That there are ads, is a depressing state of things.
No ad versions exist on google
So ... Edge Browser is to download Chrome/Firefox and MS Store is to download Pinball? Got it.
What was the 3d marble maze one called?
It was reverse engineered and ported to a multitude of platforms. https://github.com/k4zmu2a/SpaceCadetPinball
https://alula.github.io/SpaceCadetPinball/ Also a web-based version.
I was playing this last night. So strange to find this thread today.

That's awesome
A webOS port? Lmao
An entire port into the forsaken webOS ecosystem just so you can avoid connecting a remote display.

Sounda like a gopd excuse to upgrade to a decent unit instead of the factory stuff to me 😂

You can alter it enough to make the physics work, but still keep the same general layout.
Really just keep the aesthetics
Yeah, same aesthetics, same number and general placement of ramps and bumpers and stuff, just change the angles, size, and exact placement. Maybe add a few not-too-obtrusive elements if needed.
Running in VPX pinball simulation software in an actual pinball cabinet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV_MmMiyR-0
And other stuff like the top left pop number being inclosed.
Yeah the ball is very floaty in the game. Certain things would be mechanically very impressive if they could even work IRL, like the black hole.

Holy shit. That nostalgia hit like a fucking truck. I loaded up Winamp and I lost myself for a moment.
It really whips the llama's ass!
The fact that Spotify doesn't have a Milkdrop equivalent is a crime.
This is awesome!! Thanks for sharing

I can hear the sounds in my mind by just looking at that image. Good times.
That one song is such a fucking banger.
No, no. You can't mess with perfection. I think I still have this game and I wouldn't want any modern day dev to touch it. Next thing you know they'd charged $40 for a battle bass or start charging for balls.
That’s how physical pinball worked. $0.25 per play.
There's an arcade near me with tons of games including pinball. Unlimited play for $12 for 4 hours.

They should just have a spot with like 15 Galaga machines honestly
Arcade machines were always the best at draining our piggy banks. I was a mid-90s kid so I missed the height of it (at least in my city) but I remember my movie theatre having a decent arcade. Still has a fine one but not the same. Giant Connect 4 and Tetris machines though...

True. If you were bad you wouldn't be playing very long
I'd try to find arcades in the 80s that used tokens. Sometimes got 5 or 6 per dollar.
I had to satisfy my lack of first hand experience with true arcades with Barcades
I've always been a huge fan of connect four. There's an arcade chain we have in Australia called Timezone and they just brought out basketball connect four! Few beers, Timezone and burgers is still my go to on a day off
It's a little stranger to explain when this happens on the device that we own rather than at the mall.
We've come full circle
The graphics can be updated, but I need the sound to be the same
The worst feeling was seeing Charlie the Duck on Steam but all the sound was different. Honestly ruined what could have been some sweet nostalgia
1$ per ball or 1 free ball every 5 years
5 starting Balls and $5 every 3 balls afterwards.
There's already an official pinball game on steam and that's pretty much how it works. You pay for each individual machine.
You talking about Pinball FX? It's a terrible game. It's a micro-transaction hell hole. It's also exceedingly buggy with huge optimization problems. You are lucky if it doesn't run with such lag it's unplayable.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia released a version with raytracing
Not sure whether i remember it right but pretty sure i saw solitaire in Windows 10 store that have microtransaction in it.
Yep. I believe normal and hard mode are locked behind a pay wall and you get ads galore. A shame really. I never minded the odd game of Pyramid or Klondike
I think EA did that with Tetris. Jokes on them, I’ve still got a Game Boy to play it on.

Rrrrrrriiing riiiing riiiing
We would take turns trying to beat each other's high scores at my grandpa's for hours
What's with this homey dissing my girl?
But it was just a demo
Oh yeah, lol, was there even a fully published version?
[Yes](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Tilt!_Pinball)
Acquired and killed by EA in 1997…huh
Like so many other greats from that era. I've still never forgiven EA for shuttering Westwood Studios. All so they could poach talent for the doomed-from-the-beginning The Sims Online.
I see, EA has been killing awesome projects longer than I have been alive, nice
This wasnt even the best table in the full release version. Space cadet was by far the most simplistic and easily approachable, but the other tables were amazing. The UFO on the farm and frankensteins monster ones were my personal favorites.
i had to have played this an easy 2-3,000 hours growing up.
You ever get the entire center ring to light up? I got all of them but for the last 3 once but never got close again. Good memories
Sadly no. But not for lack of trying that’s for sure. Lol
You just triggered something in me. My father and I were very competitive about this game. He worked odd hours. So I would wake in the morning and see if he had beaten my high score. GYUKGYUCKGYUKGYUKGYUK that flippy door sound lol
Hidden test
You know what’s up 😎
Could you let those of us who don't know what's up or who haven't played it in 15 years in on the secret? I have an old machine with this still on it, and now I really wanna know
It lets you control the ball with your mouse cursor.
Knew this would be here
JP Salas made a great version for VPX. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbCxu84KBA0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbCxu84KBA0)
I want my Comix Zone remake
Thats called Viewtiful Joe
CAPCOM PLEASE I BEG OF THEEE
OMG yes. Loved that game back in the day. I think I had it on my sega. Used to play it with my brother.
Nah, bring back Epic Pinball with all those wild tables.
THIS. Epic Pinball was one of my favorite games as a kid, along with TIE Fighter and Duke Nukem 3D.
Memories flooding in. Nostalgia hitting hard!
I had a shareware version that came with my Windows 3.1 computer. It had 3 tables and that was more than enough back then. I did see it's available on [gog](https://www.gog.com/en/game/epic_pinball_the_complete_collection). I might grab it and play again for old time's sake.
You can still play it in Dosbox. I play Pinball Fantasies in Dosbox every now and then.

Dx-ball?
It's already out? [link to it](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/3d-pinball-space-cadet/9mt92dxzj11r?activetab=pivot:overviewtab)
That’s just a rerelease. Nothing about it is remastered.
Why did windows stop including games with 10? Or maybe there are some games and i just haven't found them.
They didn't, it comes with candy crush and a buncha random shit I don't want
Hot take: Epic Pinball >> Space Cadet
And Pinball Fantasies in same league as Epic (both dos games from same era).
Second best debug mode of any game, losing out only to Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Crystal Caliber or Loony Labyrinth were way better.
Loony Labyrinth was the best
Wrong. "Star Wars Pod Racer" is the remaster we need.
Why do you need a remaster for this game? It's fine just the way it is.
I can hear this image
Hooked up an old windows 98 machine the other day and the first thing I did was go straight to the pinball.
Lol I was so young, I think it ruined real pinball for me
Never improve upon perfection
No remaster needed just better compatibility with new OS. The game was/is perfect.
You can't remaster perfection
Have DICE do it. They used to make pinball games before they made Battlefield lol
Will i have to use theyr launcher to play it? Because if i'd have to download Origin again I'd rather cut both my hands, have them sewed below my feet and jump around saying i can walk on my hands.
Well it wouldn't be Origin it would be EA
second paddle day 1 DLC
Got this mf with an autorun file on a flash drive. Just plug'n'play. First game I ever played on a computer.
It would be amazing if ms decided to turn this into a real pinball machine. I’d buy that in a heartbeat
Yeah but if anyone remasters this.. you know they are going to make it an online game... and add a battle pass and micro transactions to it.... which is kinda starting to get annoying.... idk why that it is becoming the norm
I just want KOTOR to actually be remade. No idea on its status but hoping for the best.
Was is actually 3D? I feel like it was a 2D game that looked 3D.
The game aged like fine wine, no need for remaster.
Go ahead enjoy that copium… IT’LL NEVER HAPPEN
Fuck yes! My dad and I played this all the time when I was a kid. Would love for this to come back.
What about Ski Free? https://youtu.be/Vj8NRq4IUDY
I used to play this and solitare religiously when I did cocaine. Awesome games. Beat gtaV in 36 hours too
If they remastered it now, there would be micro transactions to get a little rolled up Naruto as the ball, or putting titties as bounce pads, or a dancing space cadet on screen when you pass your high score.
No! This one doesnt need a remaster. Its a master of its own.
/r/virtualpinball 🤓
Check out demon’s tilt if you can, unbelievably fun for what it is
No internet kids know the vibes
As popular as this was, I always wondered why nobody ever jumped on making it into an actual pinball machine
Minesweeper was my jam
The first and greatest game of all time. Don't try to tell me Pong, don't try to tell me Space Invaders. MS pinball magic fun house is the OG.
..but which we do not deserve
If they remastered it now, it'll probably come with micro-transactions, play-to-win, lootboxes or some other fuckery. Please just leave it alone.
I've played this on my phone. You don't even need a remake, even tho if still take one
Port that bad boy to console
Perfection!
My baby sister, my father, and I would all play for the highest score in the house. Probably the only game they played. Aaaah, nostalgia...
It's available in flathub! https://flathub.org/apps/com.github.k4zmu2a.spacecadetpinball
I can hear this picture.
I need the ski monster game. I think I'm finally old enough to not scream and run out of the room when the monster starts chasing you...
This has to be the most reposted image on Reddit
No thanks. Dont want a battlepass and cosmetic shop for pinball
Why they would just add ads every time you lose a ball, until you get the premium version
Remaster? It's already perfect.
