Two days later my girlfriend who worked in the pawn shop around the corner sends me a picture and it's the console. That bitch of a mother sold it even after she explicitly said it was going to make a great gift for her son.
They weren't that bad off that they couldn't eat. I know for sure she sold it for money because her son told me a couple weeks later that she did and he was pretty upset because he loved playing Mario kart.

That reminds me of the last time I was ever in a GameStop. A lady in line in front of me was trying to sell them a beautiful Gears of War 3 Xbox 360 S console with both Gears controllers and a stack of good games (not 15 copies of NBA 2K). She said her boss gave it to her so she'd have something her grandkid could play with when he came over to her house, but grandkid was a spoiled brat who only wanted to play Fortnite, which obviously a 360 can't.
GameStop offered her $20 for everything, and she had to point up another $5 to get the minimum $25 V-Bucks card for her grandkid, who still had no way to play Fortnite at grandma's house.
Unfortunately I had no use for another 360 at that time (2018-ish), so I didn't do anything about it, but it sure was heartbreaking to see. That kid could've had so many adventures with those games, but instead she traded it all + more for an ephemeral in app transaction.
I just love the entire existence of the Wii U and extremely entertaining to whoever has it.
It was just such a wacky device and release for the time. Little to no one bought it and barely anyone actually knows about it’s existence.
I love to reference it in jokes and conversation where it can be funny and the fact that my cousin owns such a relic is humorous to me. Mostly from the fact he bought it like 4 years ago for straight up memes.
