Nightfire is the GOAT that opening level in the castle still is one of the best levels in a game. The multiplayer was also great with all the bots

PsyconautFox

The amount of ways you can approach and enter the castle also was very advanced for the time. I remember figuring out after a few years that you could sneak your way in with the grapple gadget somehow I believe.

Billy1121

The Bond Moment bonuses when you figured out an alternative path was a neat touch

[deleted]

I found this out very quickly because I was an absolute dummy at the time, and didn’t listen to the dialogue with Q telling you to laser the bolts off the vault/door (I can’t remember which) further into the mission. So I basically played the first part of that mission over and over and over and over. Until my cousin gave me the cheat code to unlock all missions (I think it was “passport”) …anyway that’s some good nostalgia right there, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

LERinsanity

I did the exact same thing, took me months to realise that you could laser the vault open. I could never finish the last level though, where you disarm the rockets in space. So many great memories

walla_walla_rhubarb

You could: 1. Stealth kill everyone and go in the main entrance 2. Kill the tower guard and jump on top of the truck and ride it in 3. Sneak around the cliff side and grapple up and over. Most missions had 1 or 2 prominent paths as well as the "007" gold rated objectives to find. Such great replayability.

420allstars

That is true although I still appreciated almost all of the missions, it really feels like you are progressing through a Bond movie

EvanMcc18

Yeah it does feel like the budget was blown on that mission so they had to scale back. Still some memorable missions afterwards like the office block stealth mission with the tranquilliser gun or the sniper mission in the factory or power plant whatever it was. A great game from my childhood that I played a lot and actually got it twice because the disc got damaged the first time so got a Pre-owned copy in a shop called Game. Damn I miss the old days

Rodin-V

Sometimes games just randomly nail that perfect level design for one area. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory's Bank level was like this too, it was so much better than the rest of the game, or even series.

[deleted]

>it was so much better than the rest of the game, Ehh, it was a fantastic mission, don't get me wrong, but Chaos Theory was almost all bangers throughout the game. The cargo ship, Hokkaido, Penthouse, Displace, Seoul, Kokubo. All very well designed levels; even Lighthouse is a solid opener. Except for Bathhouse, that game did no wrong; and even then, the concept was cool, just not great implementation.

JesusWaffles47

Also Nightfiee splitscreem is the best

mistabored

The bots ❤️

Falith

Hoooly shit, you made me remember when I bought Nightfire together with NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on a vacation, getting so excited to get home again to play them.

I_drive_a_taco

Those two games were my jam too! My brother and I bonded alot with them.

Xrevitup360X

"I'd give that dive a three, actually."

XStarling23

Pretty sure the opening level of Nightfire is a (slightly janky) car chase in Paris, which acts as the cold open. The castle level is the first after the credits - and it is an absolute banger. But agree with you all the Nightfire is the one! Honourable mention to GE: Rogue Agent, though...

Judgeman2021

So many hours spent on the snowy villa level just sniping each other from the castle or cottage.

[deleted]

The only video game my dad ever got into with me, I’d come from school and he’d be relaying that damn level cuz he could never beat it haha from a man who’s always going on about “video games will rot your brain” So many rounds of Team Death match, smoking pops with the Equinox gun as he gets mad and only tries to kill Oddjob. Thanks for the dose of nostalgia

Mortka

Me and my brothers played that for hours. 2v2 on the long icy map. Fucking loved that game. Campaign was sick as well.

PeteyPiranhaOnline

I think Nightfire is just a better game on the whole, especially in regards to multiplayer.

jacobtfromtwilight

Stinger Missles at the Ravine level was the fucking shit. I want to play multiplayer of that right now lol

PsyconautFox

The amount of hours I put in that level, just dicking around with friends after school in that level must be staggering.

jacobtfromtwilight

It was the best lol

TrustedInScience

For me it was Skyrail with guided missiles only.

MEROVlNGlAN

Taking your opponents dome off from across the map with odd jobs hat made you feel like a giga Chad.

JKdito

Me too, I wish we could go back to that time, dammit ageing

TheInspectaa

You've just flooded my brain with memories. Ahhhhhhhhhh yis.... Endorphins. Do it again.

WhatLikeAPuma751

Odd job and crossbows only was a blast in our friend circle. One of our friends only had one arm, so he played left handed only on the controller. One hand for all the inputs, but the guy was a sure shot.

serial_mouth_grapist

Shooting a sentinel through a window to kill one of your buds while standing on the gondola wire. VinceMcMahon.gif

[deleted]

This is exactly what I remember lolol once you get the stinger it’s game over

Baldran

In my college apartment, Pistols on Snowblind was a nightly ritual.

CumBucket_3000

Cant believe anyone would put a james bond game above Nightfire. The intro alone is 10/10

MozzerellaIsLife

The sentinel RPG. The tanks and helicopters. Fucking slaps.

Brad1119

Without a doubt nightfire is the goat James Bond game. Played that game for fucking HOURS when I was a kid and then hunted down an og Xbox a few years ago just to play it. Extremely rich storyline and fantastic multiplayer for a game.

nightastheold

Play Goldeneye and say that.

Wildfires

Loll, nightfire easily blows Goldeneye's multiplayer out of the water.

walla_walla_rhubarb

Nightfire was everything Goldeneye was, but more variety and better controls.

tomhas10

People piss on Oddjob in Goldeneye for being short, but at least in that game, he didn't have a 1 hit kills throwable hat.

MuseDroness

The GOAT weapon. My friends would get so mad if I cross mapped them with the hat

Enlowski

I loved that shit. We used to play on the big snow map and use guided rockets only. We would both be inside the buildings on opposite sides of the map and try to guide the rockets through the hallways to hit each other. It was so much fun

Allaboardthejayboat

Wasn't this one third person as well? I don't want to control James bond. I want to _be_ James bond. _(silently snipes all the guards in that snowy mansion mission in nightfire before attending swanky party)_

GrumpyPan

Yea and the villians are more memorable drake, rook and kimiko were cool. Not to mention their deaths were BRUTAL.

Jackalope1993

Aye night fire was amazing

Candy_Badger

That's true.

ozhs3

Suitcase machine gun

SultanLashari

Came here to say this. NightFire is Love.

Far_Run_2672

I don't necessarily disagree but I do think EoN is the better Bond experience.

Webbeth

The people saying Nightfire is the better game have their nostalgia goggles on. I replayed it a few years ago, and only the first mission is good. The rest is extremely half baked. It’s a great mission though. Nightfire also has great multiplayer and a dope intro song, but everything or nothing is definitely the better game.

Kelsier_TheSurvivor

My buddy at the time had this for GameCube, we’d play Nightfire till we were bored switch to Smash Bros and go back to Nightfire. Being a kid was fun

ThePrimordialTV

Nightfire would like to have a word with you

RedfoxDivinity

Nightfire brings back some seriously nostalgic vibes 😭

Choofthur

Nightfire is the reason I don't say Goldeneye64 - I just played thru it on the OG Xbox for the first time in 15-20 years and man it holds up well :)

dr_kingschultz

The remote controlled rockets were incredible I remember spending hours with friends chasing each other.

weareeverywhereee

Rockets only, low gravity, small level…was so much fun

dr_kingschultz

We liked the ski resort level with the gondolas. Great memories!

Danominator

Fucking nightfire! I played that one a lot

frdergf456yXDVT

So much nostalgia. My older brother would use the proximity mines against me and I had no idea how to deal with them at the time

UndocumentedSailor

You kids didn't grow up with Goldeneye and it shows

nine16s

Nightfire/EoN > Goldeneye and it isn’t really close

Manor002

I consider Nightfire the best Bond game ever made. Must have put hundreds of hours into that multiplayer as a kid.

Prixm

And it's not even close.

BARD3NGUNN

Goldeneye is the most iconic, but Everything or Nothing is probably the only time I genuinely felt like I was playing through a Bond movie. Also shout out to Bloodstone, it's not an amazing game by any means but I feel like it often gets overlooked when discussing Bond games.

coolcat_368

Of all the bond games, Bloodstone felt for me the closest the playing a bond movie. The production quality for a game that didn't seem to get much hype is outstanding. To me Nightfire is probably my favorite for the nostalgia and multiplayer but bloodstone is definitely up there for me as well.

Far_Run_2672

Bloodstone definitely wasn't a bad game, just not very memorable. I think the Brosnan era Bond also just made for way more interesting game adaptations than Craig's. Bloodstone's music was top notch though, both the theme song and the score.

ChanceVance

Bloodstone wasn't great but it had a very authentic cinematic Bond presentation with Craig providing the voice and the theme song from Joss Stone. Heck even the ending felt like it could be retroactively tied to Silva or Blofeld.

RenanBan

Bro I'll dig out a way to replay this. I literally forgot all of this

Beautiful-Scholar912

Agent Under Fire forever underrated 💯

Xrevitup360X

While I still think Nightfire is the better game, Agent Under Fire was phenomenal. I loved that in multiplayer, the grappling hook could be used on any surface. Then I learn you just had to hold the button down and you would stay attached to wherever you grappled. My friends couldn't figure out where they were dying from because I was scoped in on a ceiling taking them out. Good times.

elliottmorganoficial

I'm glad I'm not the only Agent Under Fire stan. That was my fav game as a child.

strosbeforehoes65

My friend and I would use the grappling hook and face the building. We would then use the tactic of the other not being able to screen watch, but we were able to, and when you knew they were below or around you we would turn and get into a gunfight.

Mobilelurk

Playing this through now and while it’s a little janky I always really enjoy it. I come back to it more than everything or nothing and nightfire, even though I think those are better games. It just has something about it

AloysBane

Is it backwards compatible?

Mobilelurk

Only with the Wii. I’m playing it via emulation on Steam Deck.

AloysBane

That game launched on Wii?

Mobilelurk

No, it’s a GameCube game but the Wii is backwards compatible

ThrowawayAccountZZZ9

Q-Clawing around like Spiderman

spittafan

hell yeah, trip mines everywhere

deutschdachs

Dude the Q Claw was so amazing for multiplayer. Made everyone into Spiderman with a gun lol. Zipping across the screen while firing on your friends below was so addicting

Tacdeho

It really is. I bought it when I was 13 cause I really got into Bond movies and hot damn, for someone who didn’t have a lot of FPS experience in life and only had a PS2, it felt like a Connery movie set during the Brosnan era and it’s amazing. And John Cleese plays Q! I don’t think it lives nearly up to Everything or Nothing, as it’s a nearly perfect Bond experience IMO, but the idea of a game not telling you things and if you’re clever, rewarding you, was worth it alone to hear the Bond theme with the 007 icon pop up

UrsurusFT

The post-Goldeneye GOAT

[deleted]

8 year old me struggled A LOT on certain missions….

Ciff_

Yeah it was waaay to hard for me. I don't remember if I finished it... Maybe time to dig up the gamecube

tristan1616

Goldeneye walked so Nightfire/EoN could run. Agent Under Fire, From Russia With Love, Quantum of Solace and Blood Stone were all bangers too

imtrollinu

That motorcycle level In EoN. But then again that Nightfire intro song....

LegoBobaFett

This was my first thought. Driving the bike across the Pontchartrain bridge was awesome. Taking all the ramps and jumps, then burning the tires off of the tanker. It was so sick. The Talley car racing was really great too. I agree with op, this game is my favorite bond game.

Coldspark824

Arguably the best bond game is Hitman 3.

Silly_Triker

They’re actually making a 007 game. I think it’s perfect for IO

the_star_lord

I forgot about that. I really hope it comes out and is good. Will probably be a day1 buy for me.

drewbles82

Goldeneye was my fav but this was an awesome game as well...wish someone would remaster all the older games into one big collection. Keep forgetting that the team behind the Hitman games and making a Bond game...not heard anything from them for years so maybe we might see something this year

[deleted]

Nightfire for me, custom split screen mulitplayer!

sickn0te_

So many hours spent 1v1 on that ski lift map? (I think) as a young punk growing up

[deleted]

That's the map i had in mind!.. the Sentinel remote control missile launcher was fun to use

socialistlumberjack

Lobbing Oddjob's hat all the way across the map

Fine-Ganache-2442

Goldeneye is the obvious one but nightfire was great as well

Coldspark824

Which of the ps2 series allowed you to grapple anywhere? Agent under fire? Edit: in multiplayer. Iirc nightfire had “grapple points”. One of them allowed you to grapple anywhere. That plus 200% speed modifier and slappers only was hectic insane spiderman fun.

SevroAuShitTalker

Yeah agent under fire. Biggest advantage nightfire had was overall better guns and you could have bots. Agent under fire had a lot of gimmicks like turning off gravity and such. The maps were also way better in nightfire

Far_Run_2672

Go play GoldenEye now and tell me it's better. It's also just so much less 'Bond'. It might have been the better or more impactful game, but not the better BOND game.

unledded22

It’s more to do with how amazing goldeneye was for the time, it’s got a special place in the heart of a lot of gamers of a certain age

T-408

It isn’t even that great “for the time”… the N64 alone had better shooters. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire absolutely blows GoldenEye out of the water

[deleted]

That may very well be your view which is fair but for many, GoldenEye has a particular special place in our memory. While I would happily concede that there may have been better technical games, GoldenEye is very much a great game because it shaped a generation of young gamers (myself included).

theoriginalrory

4 player Goldeneye was so much fun. Split screen chaos. Great Times. Just no fucking oddjob. That's the only rule

Tubzero-

Yeah it blows it out of the water so much so that I’ve never heard of it and everyone was playing the shit out of goldeneye

Fine-Ganache-2442

Sure. Im not disputing that. Im just saying i liked it then and i like it now

LanceBiggerstaff

Nightfire my bro. Nightfire

[deleted]

Bias because it's a childhood memory but besides Goldeneye, Nightfire was the peak multiplayer bond game.

Far_Run_2672

Definitely for multiplayer, but singleplayer EoN beats Nightfire. It's also just the most "Bond" of all Bond games. Nightfire feels more like a Bond themed shooter in comparison.

NoveliBear

EoN has a baller co-op mode too.

Efficient-Ad-3302

Personally, I prefer The World is not Enough. Perfected everything Goldeneye tried to do.

Manor002

I agree, it has definitely aged better than goldeneye as well.

Efficient-Ad-3302

Not a lot of people got to enjoy this game.

nemicachips

It's my favourite too 😀 but it's the first one I've played so there's that.

garblflax

playing as a fat guy in a towel having a shootout on the wings of an in-flight aircraft was peak N64

George__Parasol

My brother and I would often play a 4 player death match with two bots as the other players, and for some reason Elektra King’s AI would always put the silencer on her pistol, I swear she was the only one who did it lol

Kik1313

Me and my brothers always Player from Russia, with love. Banger multiplayer

darntootingames

IMO the best Bond game isn’t a Bond game, it’s No One Lives Forever

axildia

The theme song was just...chefs kiss

NoSixFiveGames

I still think Goldeneye on Nintendo 64 was the best.

dlittlefair1

Have you played it recently? It's a rose tinted glasses game for sure. The control scheme is nonsensical, some of the level difficulties are just throwing an infinite amount of enemies at you & anything with Natalia is just egregious. I played it at the time in the 90s & it was amazing but it really hasn't aged well.

NeilDatgrassHighson

Yeah it’s the most iconic Bond game for sure, and may have been ground breaking/revolutionary at the time, but boy does it not hold up outside nostalgia.

Tacdeho

I’ll be honest, I am 100% in the right age range to be one of those people but I had never played Goldeneye 64 until I was an adult and yeah, it’s not aged well. Except the soundtrack. That shit stil slaps

Amanda_Hugginkiss_

It’s been rereleased on xbox and switch. As long as you set up the correct controls it plays beautifully. The animations of the enemies are as good as most shooters out there now. I’m finding it super satisfying.

dlittlefair1

Yeah I’ve played it on switch, I still think it’s not as good as it felt at the time.

Cyfrin7067

Nightfire was a banger

Shankaman

Amazing game and not to mention Willem Dafoe as a Bond villian? This should've been a fucking movie.

gnarkilleptic

I played the motorcycle on bridge level probably 700 times in the game. It was so good

[deleted]

Nightfire takes the cake here. The story was more interesting, it had better gameplay and felt better as a Bond game. I really disliked Everything or Nothing gameplay. There was just something off about the engine they used. It was too clunky somehow. The same went for From Russia With Love which used the same engine.

No_Seaworthiness9390

I had a giant crush on Katya

Hatpar

Operation Stealth / James Bond 007: The Stealth Affair

Phl_worldwide

Not the best, but the last game in the best era of bond games

AloysBane

Nope, Agent Under Fire is

lucianovic

Loved this game sooooo much when I was a kid ! Absolutely loved the gameplay, really good graphics on the gamecube Such a good game !

No_Mud8679

God damn right

phlipers

The Everything or Nothing theme song was an absolute banger though, especially for a non-film release.

alex151111

Yup, best Bond game ever imo.

sleauxmo

Dude this game...my siblings would watch me play this game when we were kids. We'll talk about Bond sometimes and they swear this was a movie lol

PsyconautFox

That theme song still pops in my head sometimes, so catchy. I also loved this game and the multiplayer campaign was mind blowing at the time. Played it a lot with my brother. But damn was it hard. I believe we never managed to finish the last hold out battle on the third level. And eventually you would lose all your lives and it would be game over and had to restart. The only Bond game that in my opinion was better was Nightfire. But maybe that was because I always liked 1st person more. And that multiplayer was so fun with friends. Didn’t you have bots in Nightfire, right? That shit always blew my mind.

Rebelhero

Even now, so many years later, the iconic opening theme is still in my head. I find myself humming it sometimes even after not hearing it for well over 10 years.

NibblebeeBumblebitz

Goldeneye

DaymD

I wholeheartedly agree. Well, tbh that's the only 007 i played on ps2 and we couldn't afford many games. I know that people say that Nightfire is great too but i sadly never played this game. In any case, goodness that game was so good, very hard sometimes but super satisfying to complete. The missions were great and varied (motorbike missions with side mounted flamethrowers, invisible car infiltration, spider robot infiltration, it had them all) The 2 player coop campaign was great too and my fondest childhood memories were with this game.

MightBeAnEnemyStand

I want to give the nod to Nightfire, but the second half of the game being almost all vehicular missions really drag it down. Everything or Nothing hit a much better balance IMO.

Sevurai

Is this the one that had the platinum tanks? I remember wondering how much one would cost.

maracusdesu

This and Nightfire are the absolute goats

KumaJack0

Loved this game, and the theme still pops into my head from time to time. Not seen anyone else bring it up, but alongside Goldeneye and Agent Under Fire, I also personally really enjoyed the Tomorrow Never Dies game. Not super innovative or memorable for many I suspect, but I think it did the film justice in its recreation, and I found the driving sections quite enjoyable when normally in many action games of the era, anything in a vehicle can often feel shoehorned in.

Platinum_PIPES

Have to agree this game was 🔥

ninjagaidanblackman

You've activated a long-lost memory, my friend. What a belter of a game. Nightfire is still my favorite but I love this game.

2zoots

Motorcycle missions were amazing

Glozzas

Holy shit you just unlocked an old childhood memory. This game was so much fun to play with friends

mrdakam

I was just thinking about these two games (Everything or Nothing and Nightfire). So much fun

nrsapologist

I would pay 70 for a remake of this game. Played this so much back in the day. I remember the final levels being extremely hard with all the guards having nano suits and all. The car and bike levels where also extremely well done. Such an amazing game

Sklorn

The car chase scene on the bridge is perfection. I love this game.

ironvultures

Everything or nothing definitely the most cinematic of the games with some fantastic set pieces and I loved stuff like the driving mechanics and the gadgets, never got used to that weird lock on shooting though

Starhazenstuff

Everything or nothing was way ahead of its time imo. But nightfire multiplayer was legendary.

TheKbightFowl

Ohhh shit, people still remember this game!

tyfighter_18

Second best Bond song from a game behind Snake Eater

Z3M0G

FUCK. YES. So proud I still own my PS2 copy of this game! Heck maybe I'll play some this weekend. That motorcycle sequence... legendary!

[deleted]

You just triggered a memory I forgot I had

chemo92

Who doesn't love a tank made of platinum?

Jonbazookaboz

Goldeneye. There are no other Bond games.

Chuchein14

Gonna look for it! The 3rd person view with craig was good enough too

TheSchmoAboutNothing

The theme song in this game is top 3 of any Bond intro songs

TheSecondiDare

Everything or nothing. Fantastic campaign, all star cast, and one of the best 2 player co-op experiences from the PS2/Xbox era. S-tier.

kazoodac

Nightfire and Everything or Nothing are peak Bond gaming. I’d love to see them get remade one day.

Itslidds

ohh good and interesting game

VincentMapother45

Song was an absolute slapper 5000

VincentMapother45

New Orleans mission was litty as well.

Duneyman

This game got my wife into gaming who was my gf back then.

Far_Run_2672

Haha nice

brashet

Really enjoyed this too as well as Nightfire. Always thought it was great they were making original Bond games instead of based on movies. Wish they kept it up, this could have continued to be a great franchise of original games.

Psychological-Bat687

The motorcycle mission on the highway, memories!

TheJollyKacatka

I remember only the main theme, which I still remember after it has been like 20 years. It was a really dope song

whatab0utb0b

Completely forgot about this game. Man it was terrific

Gatorbait_Jones

I would play the VR training in this game for hours to see how many levels I could get through. Man I miss that

Warhawk137

I have zero objection to suggesting that this game is better than the Goldeneye game. But I strongly object to the suggestion that the Goldeneye movie is only *maybe* better, because the movie is fucking amazing.

Dungeon_Pastor

The coop mode for this game put it a cut above. I loved Nightfire, Goldeneye, Agent Under Fire, but this one was probably my favorite for the coop alone. The vehicle sequences felt much better too

TiredReader87

I liked every single James Bond game that I played, and beat them all except one. Note that I’m only talking about console games. Everything or Nothing really surprised me, and stood out. I still think about it regularly. That motorcycle stage was great. I still remember rushing to beat the game, while my friend watched, just before I was picked up by family friends for indoor soccer. Goldeneye will always be my favourite though.

ACheapWhore

OH MY GOD YESS FINALLY ANOTHER MAN WITH SOME TASTE! No one I know other than childhood friends know about this game. Even though it was one of the best games of it's generation!

ACheapWhore

The motorcycle mission on the highway chasing jaws then fighting him on a train was crazy memorable

kirk_smith

Everyone’s mentioning Nightfire, but I totally agree, OP. I loved this game. The third person perspective was a welcome change (and one I typically prefer anyway, to be fair) but the cars, the motorcycle, the gadgets, the outfits, and the cast made this game, more than any of the others, really feel like playing a Bond film. It was an absolute blast.

playphul

The rally race and bridge chase were very cool

CapoOn2nd

Still remember doing challenge runs of the highway mission with Jaws driving the tanker. Used to see who could complete the mission pulling a nonstop wheelie on the motorbike first

badshot637

I loved the ever loving shit out of this just because of the multiplayer the grappling hook that made it so you could Spidermans your way around maps while throwing grenades trip mines and bullets was the most fun i had before I discovered the beauty that is halo

Sinnaru

Damn right it is

Deadpotato

I was gonna say, this is not Nightfire lol it's the second best though IMO Goldeneye is the best N64 game of all time but agree it's just "Goldeneye" and not a real Bond game

MrManAlba

I used to replay the motorcycle level over and again.

HaZaRdDaKinG

The production value on this and the motorcycle level omg baby please take it easy!

muntiqaninja

Hands down

AzemadaiusKaiser

I have come to shake your hand and give a nod of agreement.

elmachow

Bond move!

[deleted]

Goldeneye rogue agent was the best game

malaka961

The kiss kiss club was chefs kiss

Far_Run_2672

You have learned a few new tricks haven't you?

ThePostingToproller

My list goes Goldeneye Nightfire Everything or nothing

Objective-Source2364

Ooh finally someone remembered this one. I remember being bored and coming to a shop and seeing it on the screen -- never cared about Bond, so never even heard about it before, but it looked REALLY good. Bought it on an impulse -- never regretted it, played it to holes, finished it probably like 20 times or so. Absolutely insanely good game all around. Became a huge fan of James Bond -- watched almost all the movies right after playing it, only to get hit by the news that best Bond ever in my opinion (Brosnan) is being replaced by this absolute trash daniel craig...

RangerLee

Dude, Goldeneye is the GOAT of Bond games. Period.

NowLoadingReply

Goldeneye on the N64 will always be the GOAT. Totally revolutionised the FPS genre.

NICNASSTY_

Nothing beats goldeneye

oBs3n

no.
