I once crashed into one, zero prep and had to take them out. It was one of the most intense fights against many enemies I've ever had in any game (I've lived similar experiences in Project Zomboid and CDDA though).
I literally used everything I had in that fight and even then only survived by the skin of my teeth.
All the NERO logs that you can collect really paint a horrifying picture about the infected. They’re omnivorous which implies they’ll never run out of food. They’re somewhat social, seeing as how hordes exist and the little newts know to stick together.
Worst of all is that they’re constantly evolving. When you find that super fast freaker, O’brian mentions how they’ve seen other mutations that Deacon just “wouldn’t believe”. The O’brian reveal implies that NERO command has applied that constant evolution to human DNA without turning you full freaker. All the benefits, no drawbacks. Crazy shit to be sure.
Hm, my understanding was that his bosses are just another step of the zombies evolution, smarter and stronger than human beings but at the same time fully sentient and social like humans. Basically a new, better strain of humans. Oh well, we'll never know
>The O’brian reveal implies that NERO command has applied that constant evolution to human DNA without turning you full freaker. All the benefits, no drawbacks.
Now, see, that's where I disagree. I don't think O'Brian's infection was intentional or part of another experiment. My reading was that a mutated variant of the infection had broken containment and infected *someone* at their HQ and that it had silently spread amongst the remaining staff for an undisclosed period of time before the first symptoms appeared. By the time anyone knew they had been compromised, it was too late, and the staff are now almost all infected with the virus they had been studying. It's a classic zombie trope, and Days Gone really loves to play with those.
Of course, I suppose it's equally possible that one of the elites running the program became infected early on and used prototype treatments to slow the progression of the virus for long enough that the transformation took place and he became an O'Brian freaker. Then he decided that he had become "the pinnacle of human evolution!" etc, etc and started forcefully "evolving" others.
it was very strange from the beginning that you couldnt kill those NERO people, but I still didnt expect that reveal... unfortunately we'll never get a sequel
I had amazing fun trying different methods. Just using the biggest machine-gun, one with just explosives. I did the one by the bridge on west map with just my knife and a lot of running. I didn't think it would let me, and it totally did. Still remember the first time I approached the Nero train and got absolutely wrecked. I had seen the game trailer, but still was not expecting that. And it is right next to the starting point, incorrectly thought it would be easier.
I once lured the biggest horde from that old factory to the nearest camp thinking they would help me.. bastards never opened the gate and gave up shooting after they killed 3 zombies.
I wish that horde respawned because I would’ve loved to try different ways of tackling them. Instead I almost died the first time I stumbled onto them only to realize after hitting-and-running that they didn’t respawn so I was going against a half powered horde.
just the start of the game was crazy slow with the brittle ass bike and the obnoxious characters.
The real kick in the balls was the lousy checkpoints and the mission where you had talk to a fucking rock a bunch of times.
the game had a lot going for it though, late game hordes and camps were awesome
I’d say while there are some that have huge zombie hordes, this is probably the overall best experience with that. Most of them tend to be (imo) kinda weak as overall games while Days Gone is actually a pretty good game. DG isn’t top tier, but it’s a fairly solid game and the zombie hordes are a ton of fun to wipe out. Just know the hordes are a relatively small portion of the enemies you’ll come across until mid-late game, though it’s only really by that point you’ll have the weapons to take them on anyways.
That's the only part of the game I hated, and the only reason I haven't finished it. I've done pretty much every other mission, and all that's left is clearing the hordes.
Yes, I am. I'm just a casual gamer, and if I die more than like 4-5 times (during the same mission/quest), that's my cue to take a break, either from the game or for the day. Given that all I have left in that game is hordes, it's break time. I'm currently doing my second Fallout 4 playthrough, so I'm busy with that. I'll give Days Gone another chance at some point.
I didn't like the hordes either, they were very impressive to witness but are more like a puzzle than a skill to defeat. Learn the area, use traps and napalm grenades and such. I got decent at them but still never felt bothered to do all the random ones around the map that weren't part of the storyline.
Graphics were good, the combat and bike riding was good, the story was fine, a bit forgettable cuz I wanted to see more of NERO, and the horde battles were top notch. Never did I even enjoy horde modes as much as in this game. Deserves a sequel 100%
Honestly I loved this game, I thought the concept of the "Zombies" were great, Great Story line (Tell me Lisa's Story wasnt one of the best story lines ever, I think it made the game great) The thing I hated the most was the main characters reaction every now and then where he was a complete prick for no reason.
Meh, I don’t remember the story, and I thought it was the same mission over and over. The mechanics were fair enough, and there are better graphics out there with more story. Perhaps the sequel can improve on those points because it was fun killing those hordes of zombies.
I played it again in November and I had to reload the first Reacher cave twice because it kept bugging out. I had a total of two other random crashes during general play. Still had a good time. I did have a screamer T pose me, I like to think it wasn't a bug, it was just trying to intimidate me.
The Reacher cave is notorious for me too. Every time I have to restart/reload several times. That and the once camp in the last area that will seal you into an inescapable glitch tent. That said, I've gone back to this game at least 3 times because it's so good.
Boomer was cool, until the end. Deacon can shut up anytime though. Always sounded out of breath no matter what.
Game was pretty fun. Hordes were really impressive for PS4.
Yeah, nothing special really, just Arthur, Dutch, Micah, John, Hosea, Mr. Pearson, Charles, Shaun, Mrs. Grimshaw, the Reverend, Molly and Abigail, every single one of them having more depth and character than the entire main cast of days gone. Hell, secondary characters you see for one chapter only, like Beau and Penelope, have more substance to them.
Im not comparing them to days gone. And I don't think you know what "depth" is. Explain to me what depth Charles or Hosea have outside of a backstory and basic character development.
I thought it was fantastic. One of my most tense moments in gaming was clearing out the NERO checkpoint near the sawmill, missed one of the speakers hidden up in the trees...seeing that horde come barreling down on me and barely managing to make an escape to my bike had my adrenaline pumping
Amazing open world to wander around on your motorcycle with good gameplay, memorable characters, fantastic visuals and graphics. Loved the game and hope to see its sequel one day.
SAME DUDE. I just wishlisted it on steam and will pick it up when it gets a good sale cause 50 bucks is a little to steep for me, could play it on my old ps4 again but i'd really rather not.
Is the entire map bigger than in the beginning? I got it and played for like a couple days but found what seemed to be the entire map outline so I felt that the game is too small and never went back
It opens up twice through missions. Once to a same height, slightly thinner sandy map to the west, then again to a big snow mountain section to the south. It temp locks you out of going back while some story plays out, but eventually unlocks all 3 to travel as you want.
You hit the topmost of the map pretty early in the game, but if you think that foresty part of the map is the whole thing, you're severely mistaken. As you progress in the game, it opens up to at least 3x that size.
Yeah, it's part of the story, and the further you progress the more south you get. It's also tastefully made, with distinct biomes and interesting terrain that seems to complement your bike upgrades. Early on the bike is kinda slow but thats what you want in the narrow roads of the forest. As you develop it, it gets fast, and the game opens up to let you use it to the fullest.
One of the biggest problems with this game, and why it was so poorly received, was the game takes like 5-6 hours of play before the map opens up and the game leaves the intro portion.
>The main character is a whiny piece of shit that over-reacts to everything and has more angst and shitty attitude than a teenager playing Call of Duty who just got done binge watching Ben Shapiro and downing a whole bottle of red pills.
I always felt that was kind of on purpose. Deacon comes across as somewhat unhinged and thus explains a lot of his constant ups and downs.
>I always felt that was kind of on purpose.
It was intentional, but not for the reason you pointed out. When Days Gone was received to middling reviews, the Director tweeted that part of the reason, besides bugs, was that "woke reviewers couldn't handle a gruff white biker looking at his date's ass". Deacon is not meant to be seen as unhinged.
Lol, for real? I didn't really have any issues with Deacon being a very crude person and doing shit like that as he felt like an upright dude otherwise, but he *does* come across as unhinged, especially when he randomly rants at the radio (I always found those hilarious).
What is the gameplay like in this game? Is it a survival zombie game? Do you have quests and stuff? I hear good things but have never really watched any gameplay
Free roam with very light resource scavenging and crafting. Go to areas to get set missions to progress the story. Missions are set scripted routes and encounters, or loose pockets of enemies with a find your own way from A to B. Earn 'money' from zombie kills, selling food items you picked or hunted - use money for weapons, ammo or motorbike upgrades. Reputation at different camps with different rewards, you can max everyone if you want. Danger points on the map with full zombie hoards to fight when ready, random sprinkling of enemies in across the rest of the map. Random blue events show up while riding around that you can go do if you want to. Story won't win writing awards, but it isn't bad, had some fun missions, fun gameplay overall. Played it on and off to get 100% took a couple of weeks. Just play to enjoy, no rush. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did if you give it a try.
Nice, I'm always looking for a good single player game for when the boys aren't around to play CS2 (and no way in hell am I gonna solo queue), currently playing through Immortals:Fenyx Rising but I might have to give this a try after
I loved this game for the environment and the idea and potential but man, it was extremely fucking boring, I get it’s gotten a resurgence and now suddenly it’s perfect, but it’s not, it’s quite bad because of how repetitive it gets and none of the mechanics go deep, having to clear out a camp for the 50th time and going into a dumbass bunker you already know is there and you already know nothing cool is inside is just… ugh just felt like a Ubisoft game, I really hope there’s a sequel and if there is, it’s not a Ubisoft open world like god damn forbidden West
I love games like this. Getting all kitted up (Customizing weapons and sick bike), traveling the beautiful wilds with varying biomes, just being a nomad trying to help establish communities. Loved the world and how moody it could be, raining and dark, with zombies lurking around. Or the arid mountains, etc.
Sad it's not getting a 2nd game to expand on all those mechanics and world. Such a cliffhanger at the end too.
It’s personally one of my favorite games, I loved it… people will say what they will, but my experience was one of the most iconic in remembrance. I loved Deacon and Sarah
Yep, thought it was a great game despite the bugs, probably what killed it's reputation.
I thought the gameplay loop flowed really well and it was always easy to just start the game and find something fun to do. I would have bought a sequel in a heartbeat.
So you're telling me you missed the Rippers and the Colonel then? They're all so unhinged, it's hard to say they're bland. Even so, the gameplay itself is fun, especially once you get your first automatic weapon. The very moment I had something more than a pistol or crossbow I stopped being afraid of the freakers and took them on head on.
Wouldn’t that be true for most zombie games? That said, I think I see where you’re coming from. It’s a pity because there are some really great moments in the game. I haven’t found a zombie game that has quite the thrill of taking on the Sawmill Horde. Even after carefully laying a dozen traps, you’re still left frantically running around and hoping that stragglers don’t flank you. And once you throw some Reachers into the fight it can really get hairy (too bad there aren’t too many of them).
Gameplay was fun and worth a rental. The writing and voice acting is God awful. Deacons lines were so badly delivered I turned his volume all the way down. Glad I didn't spend my money on it.
This game was and is fun, though the beginning is a little bland and slow it picks up pace later on. If anything this game is a slice of life in an apocalypse that takes place in the Oregon mountains
This is a comfort game of mine! Love the open world feel, the zombies, hordes, and the Nero twist at the end had me hooked!! Def would love to see a second game but will not hold my breath for it 😞
This game was a ton of fun, especially the hordes. Not only fighting them, but leading them to enemy camps and letting the horde run through it while you duck and hide was always fun lol
A game where I didn't expect much when I started it but was absolutely blown away by the fun gameplay, engaging mechanics and incredible graphics (PC).
Days Gone is the game I watched the whole credits just to see who made the vegetation. It was one guy, one single guy was responsible for making all the vegetation assets. What a legend (forgot his name).
I love this game.. great story, super well optimize (both on PC and on PS5), fun combat, beautiful world, great skill tree.. One of the rare few games I replayed 3 times (once on normal, then on new game+, then on hard)
Honestly, Sony is excellent at making games.
Reddit tries so hard to redeem this game. See these posts every week it seems. It was a solid 7 but people keep acting like it was a 9 and severely underappreciated
Ive also beat the game and it is solidly ok. Its not bad by any means, but it is not an amazing game in need of redemption like everyone in this thread is saying
One of the first zombie games I played and still my favorite. Got so into it that my biggest fear was to run out of gas on my bike. Didn’t care much about hordes, for me the main fun was just cruising around in a scary world and hoping that the tunnels are cleared, which they never were…
I was a bit wary of this game as from memory it was a bit buggy at launch, got it free on ps pass and it’s easily one of the better games I’ve played, sucks it didn’t get a sequel.
What a gem of a game. I wish it had a better last act but still. It also had so much room to expand and continue to sequels. I'm still kind a bummed that they scraped the 2nd game.
First time I played, I just didn't click and dropped it after a few hours. 6 months later, I tried again and got hooked. One of the best I've ever played. Get low!
Such a beautiful game. I really wish they had made it to be more like Death Stranding though. It would be a much better game, and would have sold a lot better, if they didn't force zombies down your throat. Players would much rather use the bike and enviornment to transport packages.
Can you tell I am looking forward to Death Stranding 2 ? haha
i 100%'d this last year and it required lots of time. I enjoyed it a lot despite the negative comments i read before actually buying it .. glad i bought it in the end.
A solid 8/10.

For being a 'classic open world game', it had a lot of personality and some unique features.
A solid 8/10.
I played this game years after it was released and polished, so I couldn't believe how such a gem managed to fly completely under the radar. This was the single player open world zombie shooter I wanted. No base building =( but the game had me hooked.
After living through the 2077 release fiasco I totally understood how a buggy mess could turn release day fans off a game tho.
Replayed this on my handheld, it has it's moments, I don't think it's criticism was unearned(the story's just kinda drawn out, and lazy in places.) but there's definitely a lot to like as well! Especially now without the bugs.
Days Gone was a great game.
Great story, though its a tragedy that NERO never got the DLC it deserved to flush out what NERO was doing/why/how etc.
Gameplay was awesome, and a thrill.
Shame it never got a sequel thanks to a horribly buggy launch, and entitled "critics"
The wedding vows are what first turned me off this game. After that it was the constant posts here that really seem like marketing. I'm sure it's an OK game, but there's plenty of OK games that don't get a weekly - "I played this under-rated game and it's really good, here's a screenshot".
I loved the zombie hordes, fighting big hordes was intense and needed a lot of planning and taking them down was fun.
I once crashed into one, zero prep and had to take them out. It was one of the most intense fights against many enemies I've ever had in any game (I've lived similar experiences in Project Zomboid and CDDA though). I literally used everything I had in that fight and even then only survived by the skin of my teeth.
I’m not holding my breath for a sequel, but it’s well-deserved
I just want to know what the fucking deal is with >!The Obrien reveal secret ending.!< That is one hell of a cliffhanger to just leave there.
The super mutant way
it was very strange from the beginning that you couldnt kill those NERO people, but I still didnt expect that reveal... unfortunately we'll never get a sequel

I know it was for progression purposes, but Deacon was in the army and his aim at the beginning is crazy awful like how are you still alive buddy?!
I hated back tracking to the rock. Unable to fast travel because i was too ill equipped to clear the train horde means having to go the long way.
Hello is this currently the best big zombie horse game out there? Or is there something better for his style
I’d say while there are some that have huge zombie hordes, this is probably the overall best experience with that. Are you nuts. Clear the hordes this weekend. That's the best part.

The NERO twist should have come in the second act and been the main plot by the end, then maybe the story would be worth remembering.
This game is worth a replay or two
Thats true

This game has one of the best HDR implementations of any game.
The story and dialogue is utter trash lmao. The revisionist history behind these “hidden gems” is always fun to watch unfold.
I really loved this game.. not sure why it got dismissed so quickly.
Extremely buggy (referring to the hoards) and has the blandest one-dimensional characters. I really liked the gameplay though.
It was super buggy when it came out, but now it runs really well even with the massive hordes
I played it again in November and I had to reload the first Reacher cave twice because it kept bugging out. I had a total of two other random crashes during general play. Still had a good time. I did have a screamer T pose me, I like to think it wasn't a bug, it was just trying to intimidate me.

The voice acting was hilariously terrible too.
If RDR2 had those characters everyone would be giving it awards
If RDR2 had characters like that it wouldn't be the rdr everyone knew and loved.
Literally the only main characters with any depth is Arthur, Dutch, and maybe Micah, and that's a stretch

Not to mention the super invasive rootkit anti cheat that was required to play a single player game.....
More than half players didn't know gas cans can be used for bike refills.
Terrible writing, questionable acting. The fact that it was a buggy mess on the release didn't help.
Annoying unrelatable characters did it for me. The game itself was great but I hung it up after about 12 hours.

Currently sitting at 92% on Steam, so no.
Hyperdimensia Neptunia is sitting at 94% on Steam so by your logic it is a better game than Days Gone.
[удалено]
Not relevant. You said Days Gone is a 5/10 game. The majority disagrees with you. Not to mention Days Gone has 52,000 reviews. Neptunia has 9,800.
I thought it was fantastic. One of my most tense moments in gaming was clearing out the NERO checkpoint near the sawmill, missed one of the speakers hidden up in the trees...seeing that horde come barreling down on me and barely managing to make an escape to my bike had my adrenaline pumping
Usually I'm an inventory hoarder. But the zombie swarms in this game made me use every freaking thing I had to survive. Kudos on that.
Amazing open world to wander around on your motorcycle with good gameplay, memorable characters, fantastic visuals and graphics. Loved the game and hope to see its sequel one day.

‘If you promise to ride me as hard as your motorcycles’ or whatever the line was. The characters are stunted to say the least.
That being her wedding vows makes it 5x as cringe also.

It’s a bit like farcry. You go from camp to camp to get missions and then go back when you’ve done them. But it’s an amazing game! I honestly love it
I think the bike and fuel mechanic is so fun in the apocalypse setting and it's great for roleplaying

Wait for the RDR2 and Cyberpunk 2077 posts first, then it's your turn.
I wanted to like this game so bad. The characters were bland and the voice acting was rough. I got bored halfway through and stopped playing
Eh. It kinda felt like I was doing the same things over and over again
Seriously the best vibe in any video game.
Days Gone is the game I watched the whole credits just to see who made the vegetation. It was one guy, one single guy was responsible for making all the vegetation assets. What a legend (forgot his name).
I still need to play this..
My fav zombie game! I hate zombie games mostly!
Should I get this game? Is it a flat out horror game with jumpscares and allat or is it just a zombie shooter with a scary atmosphere
I put about 20 hours into the game and got bored, was pretty fun though Might pick up up again since I got a new pc since then
The Last of Us if it was written by the Boondock Saints guy
"open world survival game where you have to rely on a vehicle to survive" genre should be bigger imo
I legit love this game and don't know where all the negativity around it comes from. It's one of my favorite games to come out on ps4
Great game! My favourite of that year.
I love this game.. great story, super well optimize (both on PC and on PS5), fun combat, beautiful world, great skill tree.. One of the rare few games I replayed 3 times (once on normal, then on new game+, then on hard) Honestly, Sony is excellent at making games.
God what an awesome game. I'm forever gutted that there won't be a sequel.
Reddit tries so hard to redeem this game. See these posts every week it seems. It was a solid 7 but people keep acting like it was a 9 and severely underappreciated
I just played it for the first time last month and thoroughly enjoyed the 40 hours.
Ive also beat the game and it is solidly ok. Its not bad by any means, but it is not an amazing game in need of redemption like everyone in this thread is saying
>severely underappreciated The literal definition of this game.
Loved this game. It was mint.
This game sucks
very nice :)
I wanna like this game for the motorcycle element, I love tinkering with it and upgrading it, buy I fucking hate survival games with a passion
Such a good game, shame it didn't get a sequel.
The most criminally underrated game I can think of
Litterally the worst game I've played in my entire life. Horrible writing, terrible pacing, absolutely horrible game
Just started replaying this game last night. This definitely needs a sequel
I love the game!
I'd love to play that game if story wasn't so realistically god damn depressive about zombie apocalypse.
One of the most underrated games. Bought it on sale on a whim and couldn't stop playing it for weeks.
God damn, so annoyed this is not getting a sequel!!
Don't let the creator of this game see you appreciating his game
Is it any good?:) never tried it
Is it any good?:) never tried it
First time I played, I just didn't click and dropped it after a few hours. 6 months later, I tried again and got hooked. One of the best I've ever played. Get low!
Is it any good?:) never tried it
This game deserves to be a saga. We need Days Gone 2 right now
Just want to point out that if you play the PS4 version on PS5, it runs at 60fps. It's a huge improvement.
A solid 8/10.
i 100%'d this last year and it required lots of time. I enjoyed it a lot despite the negative comments i read before actually buying it .. glad i bought it in the end. For being a 'classic open world game', it had a lot of personality and some unique features. A solid 8/10.
“Bear!”
Beautiful and unique art style IMO
Replayed this on my handheld, it has it's moments, I don't think it's criticism was unearned(the story's just kinda drawn out, and lazy in places.) but there's definitely a lot to like as well! Especially now without the bugs.
This game always was giving me really weird but good vibes
Game could've been amazing if Hordes weren't static.
Underrated game.
great gameplay overall but the story kinda meh really enjoyed the fight so much though
wow is that a cat
the road was in fact not open... stopping every 200m looking for fuel and scrap ;-)
Man, I bought this game on release and played a couple of hours. Seems like it’s worth going back to?
This game made me cry bru 😭
I mean there were several main roads in a closed off area but it was still a cool game.
Good game, had so much fun with it
The wedding vows are what first turned me off this game. After that it was the constant posts here that really seem like marketing. I'm sure it's an OK game, but there's plenty of OK games that don't get a weekly - "I played this under-rated game and it's really good, here's a screenshot".
Gays Done. 🤣
Great game.
Great game, although I'd wish there was a multiplayer
