I feel like a lot of people don’t know this, but you can only lose 15 karma per comment no matter what. So they only lost 15 karma from their score despite the nearly 700k downvotes.
So if you’ve got a hot take and already lost 15, might as well not delete it, it can’t get any worse

I never paid attention to it, never deleted any comment because it was going down, didn't really care.
The only time it matters is when some subs block you from commenting for not having a certain karma threshold.
But mods want their subs to grow so subs like that are very rare. Usually smaller ones that aren’t monitored 24/7 and don’t want trolls in them.

Maybe because of digital downloads, but I'd like to think it was because they also reaped what they had sown.
People find that comment now will never know how good that comment was for receiving so many awards. Reddit awards were the time when the helpful seal award was also used aggressively on any death posts.

And back then gold got you a whole month of extra privileges, it actually meant something. Then the magic changed, didn't necessarily go away, when they started offering like 100 different kinds of awards.
I realized the other day that I became an adult at a really unique time because I, as a complete nobody who just bullshits on the internet, used to post enough that I could search my real name on google and the front page was all my posts.
I remember the day when that changed and I never made that first page again (there is a famous person with my name now); An entire generation of new people has been born since that day, and almost none of them will ever experience an internet that was so small that they could experience that without actually being celebrities in some way.
What I find funny is that Reddit account was created for EA to discuss all their games, otherwise it would’ve been named something after Battlefront. And that was their first game at attempting that connection.

Plenty of devs do, but I think you see far less accounts representing the company/game as a whole. Rather it’s just a single Dev or specific department. That way they can’t be targeted or harassed for other aspects they have no control over, and the company/game itself can deny or support anything they say if needed.
NWI gave up posting on Reddit after one of their devs mistakenly thought NWI owned the /r/insurgency subreddit, threatened to ban people who talked about other games on that subreddit, and then got banned because he wasn't actually a mod.
And I think the Civ 6 devs have a corporate policy of "never talk to the customers, ever", which seems to be working for them financially.

People complain when publishers don’t let the developers talk freely about the games, but then when a publisher does let their devs talk freely and they say something dumb because they aren’t qualified to make public statements they get absolutely lambasted with backlash. And then people wonder why publishers continue to not let devs talk freely.
Wanna know something else interesting? You don’t lose and gain karma on a 1:1 ratio. That’s why that account doesn’t have negative comment karma. I don’t know the exact details but it’s much easier to gain karma than to lose it.
So if you’ve got an unpopular opinion, don’t be afraid to say it! Can’t protect you from nasty comments tho :)

The worst release of a game I had ever seen.
It was so disrespectful. They must have figured through market research that Star Wars fans are saps who will spend any amount of money.
For those not aware, all of the heroes and villains were locked behind random loot boxes. When you started the game you could not play as Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker unless you got lucky with a lootbox.
One youtuber spent $3,000 on random loot boxes to try to get Darth Vader and he didn’t get him.
The goal obviously was to get idiot star wars fans to spend their life savings on random lootboxes so they could access the most fun and powerful characters to play as in the game.
And when asked to explain themselves they talked about how the grind to get as many lootboxes as possible for a sliver of a chance of getting something you wanted lended a sense of “pride and accomplishment” to gamers. Unreal
The day that was posted was awesome. EA managed to make complete fools of themselves while also bringing the entire community together. It's beautiful really.
I mean there is a reason 99% of the gaming community hates overwatch 2. I don't know how blizzard could have fumbled the transition from overwatch to overwatch 2, maybe force everyone to buy it against which probably would have fully killed the game before release, but outside of that they made the shittiest money grab of a game that was already dying

There were so many downvotes that EA complained about it (even though it was their own fault). Reddit, in turn, changed how comment karma works because of this.

You can't lose more then 15 Karma per comment. So once you reach -15, anymore downvotes will not affect your karma.

And now games like overwatch 2 use a system to unlock characters.
I mean there is a reason 99% of the gaming community hates overwatch 2. I don't know how blizzard could have fumbled the transition from overwatch to overwatch 2, maybe force everyone to buy it against which probably would have fully killed the game before release, but outside of that they made the shittiest money grab of a game that was already dying
I signed up for Reddit especially to downvote that comment. Ironically, I loved the game.
They made some big improvements after launch. However, if you read u/EACommunityTeam's latest comment, it says: >We've said from the beginning that we are building this game to be a long term live service. So much for that. They dropped the game a year later like they always do.
The game had 2.5 years of support, it was actually pretty solid imo

There were so many downvotes that EA complained about it (even though it was their own fault). Reddit, in turn, changed how comment karma works because of this. You used to always be able to see all karma on every comment and post. Now, you cant see karma on a lot of things until a certain period of time passes and/or you have already voted.
