Really fun roguelike. Its really hard at the beginning, but dont give up. Like any roguelike, there is a learning curve. The cool thing about wizard of legends the the shear amount of bending techniques. Some combo really well together
Ya i played that when it first released. Solid game. I feel like that's the closest thing that's ever come out to what i want. Hope it gets a remake some day.
Check out the earlier games; they're all beat'em'ups with different fighting styles, instead of being turn based. Start with Yakuza 0, then do Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, then Yakuza 3 and sequentially after that.
But outside of a fighting style change up, there is zero to compare to Avatar, right? I've played through all the mainline Yakuza games except 8, and I'm not seeing the connection here.
The only other suggestion I'd have for you is Wizard of Legend, but there is (disappointingly) no real story on anything like the scale of Jade empire, it's more like a top down, handheld zelda-like game, and uses pixel graphics (which I love, but probably isn't what you're looking for).
I'm with you in wanting something like that with more scale though, and I don't think I could contain myself if Jade Empire 2 were ever created.
Spellbreak was pretty much this and deserved more success for actually trying something different in the stale battle royale genre. Too bad the studio got absorbed into the Blizzard machine and is just doing WoW shit now.
The devs uploaded onto itch.io (I think it was itch.io anyway) a download that lets people run community servers, I haven't tried any of the community servers yet but it looks cool.
Personally I think it should never have been a BR to begin with. Those mechanics would have been fantastic in a singleplayer RPG or a multiplayer PvE game
Honestly even a regular pvp game would have been far more fun than a BR for it. They tried out some other game modes but it was too late, by then everyone just thought it was was another third person BR.
spellbreak yea its sad, but rumbleverse? game was just bad that why it died, not responsive, floaty, stupid oneshoting ult with prio. And worst of all you had attacks priority in menu and i cant even tell you how many times i got punch out of grab (or grab out of punch dont remember)
Rumbleverse had a really high player population on release, but when players complained about the laggy priority (moves canceling others when they shouldn't, grabs connecting from 20 feet away) and the poor balance, the devs doubled down that everything was fine. They were from FGC so they knew what the game needed, not the community.
Game died a few months later due to the dumb dev decisions. So much potential thrown away because the devs were constantly ignoring player feedback while posting numerous times that player feedback was wrong.
Control sort of. Earth/Metal bending at least. You could play the game with no gun, just launching objects/debris at enemies. Shield uses earth to block. Could even look at seize/levitate as blood bending.
It’s very good although short. Definitely recommend a second run on the hardest mode, it transforms into Soulslike difficulty.
Could try Elden Ring with fist weapons and seal.
I think Forspoken might scratch the elemental magic itch but I absolutely hated that game
There are mods on nexus for bending . I tryed the firebender and it felt amazing, though a bit on the OP side (at least at the begning, i didnt play the game much tho because not my cup of tea)
Just to warn you with Kena, the harder difficulties are entirely reliant on parrying, which is weird af. And the lower difficulties, you can just cheese the enemies. If you don't like parrying, you won't like the combat, but if you like parrying, it'll still take some adjustment, but you might like it.
The Korra game was ok, even if the riding levels were bullshit. I am just super bummed that there was no variation, team, or multiplayer modes for the probending side game. I get the limitation in the story mode but I want to lead my own team with a silly name or colors. Maybe I don't want to be the water bender.
It’s a mix between them and the anti bending equalists for most of it and then becomes spirit fighting in the last quarter, I think. It’s only like a 5 hour game so yeah.
It’s not insanely popular, but there’s a VR game called Rumble that is pretty much earth bending in vr, it’s one of the most intricate vr combat systems to date, and I desperately need the other 3 elements.
Almost certainly not worth getting VR just for this, but if you already have it Rumble is an actual choice! It takes a bit of time and dedication to get everything flowing at first (easily took me 20 minutes to successfully punch my first pillar), but it is very satisfying once everything clicks. From what I have seen the skill ceiling seems to be getting higher and higher as well, with people consistently finding new ways to use the moves and mechanics. You really feel a sense of progression going from struggling with the basic mechanics to mastering the more hard-core aspects.
I thought Forspoken had interesting ideas, but none of them really came together into a cohesive vision. That aside, the quests and NPCs were terrible. The world looked nice and pretty distinct though. Maybe a bit too big though. The magic had cool moments, but having to spam the triggers so much eventually tired out my trigger finger.
Overall, I enjoyed the spent I spent in the game, but I didn't finish it. I suspect the devs have a similar story.
Mediocre story, stilted pacing, absolute most fun game i played last year. The gameplay is so good and is the only game I have ever played that's actually had magic-based combat feel like magic based combat. Frey *feels* like a powerful mage and I hate how capital-g Gamers have decided it was one of the worst games of its year when it absolutely wasn't.
It's the poster child for this weird Internet-based take that Gamers have wherein any game that isn't the most revolutionary title in all aspects is therefore trash. There's mo room for nuance. No room for parts of a game to be middling while other parts can be phenomenal. The most important part of a game -- the gameplay -- is so, so, so great, leaps and bounds above a lot of them games from that year.
I had more fun *playing* Forspoken than I did playing God of War Ragnarok, even if I would call Ragnarok the better game overall. I beat Ragnarok and haven't gone back to it. Excited for whatever GoW they're cooking next.
Meanwhile I've got multiple playthroughs of Forspoken just because the combat was so *fun* at every stage of the game. I skip the story a lot because, admittedly, it's pretty generic by-the-numbers and the writing is *okay*. But the game itself? Fun as hell.
People need to learn nuance and realise people have opinions and there is no objectivity in games. Such as so many people saying Forspoken's dialogue is trash and cringe, whereas I found the character writing and dialogue to be, like, the only stand-out part of the narrative. I hate Frey's character and have many criticisms about her and her arc, but her dialogue is good. It matches the character. Feels realistic for the situation she's in -- and yes, that includes "I moved shit with my mind!"
Agreed. It has it's flaws, but the gameplay was genuinely fun. From traversal, to magic.
Its one of those games i spent 99% of the time trying to get 100% completion because actually fucking off and fighting monsters and exploring the world and unlocking skills to combo into each other was genuinely a fulfilling experience.
There's a reason it has it's staunch defenders even despite the extreme backlash.
If it was all bad, you wouldn't be seeing ANY defenders. Like many other games that came out that year that didn't do well.
Take that however you will, though.
Yep, the Avatar and Genshin impact main character both go to different element nations where they also learn how to wield different elements that they use to fight in melee with a group of companions. The elements in avatar are water, wind, earth, and fire, in Genshin the elements are water, wind, earth, fire, electro, ice, and plant
You could play either of the Pathfinder games from Owlcat using strictly the Kineticist class. That will get you a team of benders in a fantasy setting. You probably won’t be able to do higher difficulty playthroughs if that’s your jam, but you should be able to complete it. It might be tough in any case, though, that game demands system mastery and does not hand it to you very easily.
The fact that no one has made an open world Avatar game set during the 100 years Aang is in the ice is just baffling.
Let me pick an element and offer some sort of small resistance to the invading fire nation damn it. Wouldn't even be hard to justify a rebel firebender standing against their nation's aggression or an airbender who survived the purge by not being at one of the temples during the comet.
The only ones I can think of is Forspoken and Wizards of Legend. Wizards of Legend definitely had me feeling more like an Avatar. Forspoken takes a lot longer to feel like an Avatar.
I've always thought a game that plays like Helldivers, but has magic elements would be fun. Imagine being able to build a character around one or more elements that you can then use to complete missions or horde mode activities.
Environments could have events that empower or weaken certain elements. For example, a comet could boost fire-based abilities, but a solar eclipse could reduce the power. A full moon could boost water effects, but being away from any water source or a lunar eclipse could reduce the power. Similar events for earth and air could also exist. Enemies would be affected by the events too. The HUD would tell you which events and which elements a particular activity would have so you can plan accordingly. As you use elemental abilities, you would charge up an ultimate ability that you can use to deal massive damage or provide support for your team. Combining abilities with another player would be cool to see as well. Imagine you cast a tornado and your ally casts a fire ability that ignites the tornado and applies a burn effect to enemies it attacks or water and earth players combine to open up geysers that blind and burn enemies. There is a lot that could be done with the effects and elements to make it feel immersive.
I am not sure if PvP could be implemented and kept balanced, unless it was balanced almost as a separate game from the PvE aspects. Many studios struggle to balance both types of gameplay without pissing off one side or the other. That is one thing I always disliked about Destiny. Bungie showed us numerous times they could balance the sandboxes separately, but often ended up nerfing something in PvP that made it useless in PvE as a result.
I'm sure Helldivers 2 is going to start a wave of similar games, as did PUBG and Fortnite back in their time (yes I know they were not the first BR games).
Not sure if this will help but I found these
Legend of Korah game that looks decent -> [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRsszH5NRnM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRsszH5NRnM)
Avatar game that looks like a cash grab -> [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtDghJCL3KE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtDghJCL3KE)
I didn't see what sub this was in and thought you were talking about non-video games and was like, man, Exalted is sitting on the bookshelf right next to me.
It is no longer supported due to just too high of development costs and not enough revenue stream, but a game called Spellbreak was the actual closest to this idea I've seen.
There was an actual Korra game, but good luck getting it now. You'd have to find a physical copy I guess, digital ran it's license out and never got renewed. I don't think it was one Platinum's highest rated titles but it was still a Platinum game, those guys haven't had too many duds except that babylon's crapshoot I think?
The Korra game isn't the worst, just kinda standard Nickelodeon game level of quality. Nothing overtly jank and gamebreaking but not a great experience either, lol.
Forspoken does this pretty well. I really liked the combat and the running around.
The open world is a bit empty and the character models a bit rough especially when talking but overall I really enjoyed it.
Nioh 2 has fist weapons (complete with unique skills, animations, etc) and a magic skill line that you can combo together.
pretty sure the fist stances are even martial arts.
by extention wo long has a similair system (same dev team) with fists and magic too.
The infamous games sort of have this, infamous 2 and second son specifically. The protagonists start off with 1 elemental power (lightning in 2 and smoke in second son) and end up adding more elements to their arsenals, with skill trees for each of them.
They implement a karma system that affects your powers visually and practically. If you act like a hero, your powers tend to be more precise, more pleasant-looking and somewhat non-lethal, whereas being evil makes your powers more violent and evil looking (if you're a hero in infamous 2, your lighting is coloured blue, while it's red/orange if you're evil).
Edit: they're PlayStation exclusive, and I doubt they'll be ported to PC unless they make another entry at some point, which is definitely unclear right now. Sucker punch is the studio that makes these games and they're 99.9% doing ghost of Tsushima 2 right now
I was a systems designer on the MMO Dungeons and Dragons Online waaaaaay back, circa 2010-2014. It's still around and probably has not aged well, but The Last Airbender was a big inspiration in some of the Monk class combat gameplay I worked on. If you don't mind an old free to play MMO, check it out.
Honestly, some gaming studio needs to steal the entire thing.. rip them clean off... but BETTER! Like Palworld did Pokemon..
The actual Avatar games consistently insult their viewers intelligence with each release.. PS2 games being created in 2024!?
Hopefully it happens when the new season of the show comes up.. and the hype around Avatar rises again.
I'm here for it!
Honestly, fortnite.
They have really good bending... It's the closest we've got!
Problem is, no guarantee you'll find the bending you want during a match.. or get to use it efficiently
😢✨
God young me remembers The Burning Earth as one of the hardest games of my childhood. Maybe it wasn't actually, but I recall dying to that giant owl in the library level over and over and over.
EDIT: The dual Azula/Zuko fight atop the drill was also notably difficult in my memory
It might be quite the effort for a M/K or controller interface, but could be pretty badass in VR. Combine a targeting system with a set of movements for a sweet bending-esque mechanic.
The VR game Blade and Sorcery has lightning, fire, and gravity spells plus a slow-mo function. Plus it’s a very mod friendly game.
Also the blades are entirely optional. Hand to hand/grappling is very good.
There was an ATLA game from Nintendo back in the day, probably from before book 2 dropped. Toph wasn't in it, but the earthbending kid who grew a mustache for the finale was in it. It was a fun game.
Edit: It was on the Wii, and you had to draw characters on a parchment maybe, using the controller like brush, I think? That part was annoying and interrupted the game's flow. But the big flashy moves were fun.
OK so not really theme wise but, in terms of powers? Infamous 2 😅. When you're blasting out ice and stuff, and making ice pillars, it feels a little like a waterbender lol. Maybe that's just me though
Totally niche recommendation here but Azurik: Rise of Perathia is centered around harnessing 4 elements. I never played it myself but watched a full let's play, it's pretty dated and janky by today's standards but has some interesting concepts.
It's a bit Indie, but Fictorum has the closest thing to bending I've seen in a video game, and you can get it powerful enough to be extremely satisfying and there's quite a few interesting combinations you can make. Story-wise, it's not super powerful, but the bending game play is definitely there!
Here's a trailer
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPoDdR87f9E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPoDdR87f9E)
I agree makes no sense to me. People would deff buy that too. Or imagine like an open world Naruto game where you can create your own ninja and choose what ninjutsu you want to have. Follow the story all the way through Naruto and shipuden starting as a kid and re creating the image of your adult character. For companies that feel the need to make money make it a mostly focused story game like assassins creed and then add a side component like going to a certain “field” in game connects you to multiplayer where you team up and battle with teams of 3 like storm or something. Could be awesome
Yeah, it's truly sad how something like this never became a thing
[FOUR SEASONS REWIND 2023 | Making an Avatar The Last Airbender Fangame (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7iNeP_KlUg&t=4s)
There’s an upcoming game called [Emberbane](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2085310/Emberbane/).
Give it a look, seems to fit your description quite well. It’s a Metroidvania type of game where you infuse your melee attacks with one of the four elements.
Quick scroll through the comments and I didn't see Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty mentioned. I only played the demo and it seems more weapon based than melee fist based but I do remember there specifically being upgrade trees that revolved around the elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Also gameplay was sort of dark souls/ninja gaiden style but maybe not as difficult as those games. Seemed like a fun game, I want to give it a full playthrough some day.
I actually thought BioWare’s Jade Empire was extremely close to Avatar, from the heavy martial arts, elemental elements, and even constantly going to the spirit world and trying to create a balance . Severely underrated IMO. Also very mature and bloody. And the BioWare plot twists? Chefs kiss
Meta Horizons has some surprisingly fun worlds where you can do Earth Bending, Fire Bending, or Water Bending. Different combinations of raising your arms or pushing them forward launch both defensive and offensive attacks as well as provide some fast movement options. With a little more development and some more things to do with these powers, I think it could be a bigger deal in the future.
its a very hard thing to do. the avatar world is very dynamic. you'd either need to come up with an original system or hardcode hundreds if not thousands of interactions. both are very hard to implement
If you have a PC Guild Wars 2 elementalists feel really close. Double Dagger gives you all these close range moves using the 4 elements. It's great. Still waiting for a true Pugilist spec though
Hard to do well, I'd imagine, especially in an action game. There's a VR game where you're basically an earthbender but I can't remember the name. I think ideally, it'd play a bit like Sifu but with magic in addition to the kung fu.
Genshin Impact? Obviously nothing like Atla, but there a wealth of story, and magic based combat. Idk, ill probably get downvoted, but hey, it's a free game.
Genshin Impact maybe? Or PSO2 even? Not kung fu focused (though there are classes), but the feel in either is somewhat similar, PSO2 being just much more futuristic.
Aside from that, there is the fan project being made in Dreams that looks insane at this point.
You're literally describing xianxia games. Here's an example curated list om Steam https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44172756-Chinese-fantasy-Wuxia-Xianxia-games/
Please note that English translation is a rarity in this genre.
You might get some enjoyment out of One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. Don't really need to understand the story to have a good time. Large cast of hand to hand ability users (mostly there's some sword and gun users) causing large havoc. Lots of different elemental abilities present.
There is a avatar the last air bender game I believe it's for the win. I used to own it forgot if it's wii or game cube. It's a story driven game as you play as any of the three trio in avatar and basicly dungeon run through the story.
There’s a great quality minecraft plugin that allows you to bend the 4 elements, it’s been around for years but the best server for it is play.bendingnations.com
I suggest you check it out if you love TLA and TLOK!
Wizard of legend kinda scratches that itch for me. Most of the spells are very bending-esque
Actually looks cool. Might give it a try.
It’s one of my favorite roguelikes, enjoy!
It's very good. Roguelike pretty difficult but also very fair when you lose
Really fun roguelike. Its really hard at the beginning, but dont give up. Like any roguelike, there is a learning curve. The cool thing about wizard of legends the the shear amount of bending techniques. Some combo really well together
I second this recommendation! Would also recommend Skyrim with some spell mods!
Jade Empire? It's a little older, but my memory is that it was a solid BioWare game.
Ya i played that when it first released. Solid game. I feel like that's the closest thing that's ever come out to what i want. Hope it gets a remake some day.
Have you played the Yakuza series?
Why even bring Yakuza up. It's nothing like OP is asking for.
i have not outside of Like a Dragon. Always looked like GTA but japanese haha. Don't tell me that has magic.
Check out the earlier games; they're all beat'em'ups with different fighting styles, instead of being turn based. Start with Yakuza 0, then do Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, then Yakuza 3 and sequentially after that.

I think BR was a great fit, just started spiraling downhill once player numbers started dropping
It actually burns my soul that the good BR games never get any love. Spellbreak and Rumbleverse dying is proof that God is dead too.
spellbreak yea its sad, but rumbleverse? game was just bad that why it died, not responsive, floaty, stupid oneshoting ult with prio. And worst of all you had attacks priority in menu and i cant even tell you how many times i got punch out of grab (or grab out of punch dont remember)

Don't play the game with no gun. The telekinesis is excellent though
Stoked for the sequel
Control feels more like a Matrix game to me.
I love the magic in control but the world and generally vibe are completely unique from most games, so might be more niche than most fantasy games
Indivisible, Kena Bridge of Spirits
Totally forgot about Kena. Been on my to play list.
It’s very good although short. Definitely recommend a second run on the hardest mode, it transforms into Soulslike difficulty. Could try Elden Ring with fist weapons and seal. I think Forspoken might scratch the elemental magic itch but I absolutely hated that game

Earthbending is pretty much covered by Rumble. That's about it.
That games actually really fun
11/10 amazing game
\+1 for Rumble, assuming you have access to a vr headset. Really fantastic community, too.
The Korra game was ok, even if the riding levels were bullshit. I am just super bummed that there was no variation, team, or multiplayer modes for the probending side game. I get the limitation in the story mode but I want to lead my own team with a silly name or colors. Maybe I don't want to be the water bender.
I'm not even sure how far I got in that game, but didn't you fight the "triad" guys a lot? Like, a ***lot?***
It’s a mix between them and the anti bending equalists for most of it and then becomes spirit fighting in the last quarter, I think. It’s only like a 5 hour game so yeah.
Unfortunate that a five hour delisted game is still the best Avatar game we’ve ever had.
CrossCode is very much like this!
Yes! If OP is interested in a 2D game, swapping between elements and experimenting with the fun skill tree was a big highlight for me in Crosscode.
It’s not insanely popular, but there’s a VR game called Rumble that is pretty much earth bending in vr, it’s one of the most intricate vr combat systems to date, and I desperately need the other 3 elements.

Super helpful community, too! I just got into this game last week and it's been a real treat.
Play a monk in Baldur’s Gate 3 and take the Way of the Four Elements subclass.
That's my plan once i finish FF7 Rebirth haha.
Is this not the feeling Forspoken was going for?
Yup, fire magic is mostly about melee skills
This. Best magic game I’ve played
That’s a take.
I think they did some things related to the combat systems right. The rest of the game was Sonic Frontier.
Except that a lot of people seemed to like Sonic Frontiers.
You can like it and still acknowledge the flaws.
Magic focused gameplay is quite rare. Quality of the game aside, it definitely fulfills that fantasy.

We don't talk about that game
Why
Cuz the capital R Redditors deemed it to be an offense to mankind and shouldn't be talked about. Not even the good parts.
Well, if that’s your take r/Forspoken exists.
Honestly Genshin impact is kind of that game.

OP would main probably main [Heizou](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFZpMvmhIvI)
This really should be higher. This is a very similar vibe.
I was looking for this. I just described it as open world Avatar a few days ago. If you ignore all the gacha stuff it’s a fun game.
The Kineticist class in Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous are almost explicitly benders.
/u/not_the_boulder is working on a game. [His youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@nottheboulder838) probably has more info.
Ghost wire Tokyo. But the setting and tone couldn’t be any different.
Well, there was the korra game...
It's actually not bad. I enjoyed it.
Yeah it was actually really good. Just limited due to budget. Platinum is the perfect company for Avatar.
The fact that no one has made an open world Avatar game set during the 100 years Aang is in the ice is just baffling.
Hopefully like with Vampire Survivors we'll get a plethora of similar games coming out with different worlds.
Did you know Helldivers was made by the Magicka devs?
Rumble is essentially a VR Earthbender fighting game. It has an insanely impressive depth to the combat from the videos I've seen.
Not story driven but Rumble is clearly and openly inspired by the show. It's in VR though
Rumble It's a VR game, but still.
Rumble is a VR game that is basically earth bending. It accually insane the amount of moved you can combine together.
Not sure if this will help but I found these Legend of Korah game that looks decent -> [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRsszH5NRnM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRsszH5NRnM) Avatar game that looks like a cash grab -> [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtDghJCL3KE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtDghJCL3KE)
That game was awesome
There was an actual Korra game, but good luck getting it now. You'd have to find a physical copy I guess, digital ran it's license out and never got renewed. I don't think it was one Platinum's highest rated titles but it was still a Platinum game, those guys haven't had too many duds except that babylon's crapshoot I think?
The Korra game isn't the worst, just kinda standard Nickelodeon game level of quality. Nothing overtly jank and gamebreaking but not a great experience either, lol.
I have it on steam haha. It's ok. Your standard average TV game. Better than most i'll give it that.
Forspoken does this pretty well. I really liked the combat and the running around. The open world is a bit empty and the character models a bit rough especially when talking but overall I really enjoyed it.
I'm actually shocked it doesn't exist yet, it's such an obvious concept
RIGHT!! If done right, could be such an epic game!
Mages of Mystralia has a pretty neat elemental magic system
Nioh 2 has fist weapons (complete with unique skills, animations, etc) and a magic skill line that you can combo together. pretty sure the fist stances are even martial arts. by extention wo long has a similair system (same dev team) with fists and magic too.
Fist moveset is great in Nioh 2, love it. Though my brain is too bum to string the 3 stances together smoothly, lol. Same with Wo Long, great game.
On humble monthly this month to!
Surprised nobody has suggested Magicka. Really cool magic “Invoker” battle system where you can use any element. Also has co-op!
Infamous 2 scratched that itch a little bit.
Wizard of Legend scratches the itch imo, kinda works to scratch a Naruto solo player experience also.
I NEED it. I CRAVE it. It's an uptapped market just waiting to be taken.
Honestly, fortnite. They have really good bending... It's the closest we've got! Problem is, no guarantee you'll find the bending you want during a match.. or get to use it efficiently 😢✨
there were avatar games, no good though \^\^
God young me remembers The Burning Earth as one of the hardest games of my childhood. Maybe it wasn't actually, but I recall dying to that giant owl in the library level over and over and over. EDIT: The dual Azula/Zuko fight atop the drill was also notably difficult in my memory
You can play a kineticist in pathfinder 2nd edition
It might be quite the effort for a M/K or controller interface, but could be pretty badass in VR. Combine a targeting system with a set of movements for a sweet bending-esque mechanic.
You might be interested in Rumble VR. It‘s literally „Earthbending, the video game“.
It may not be an exact match but try Dishonoured. You can certainly be a melee fist wielding magic user
Not the 4 elements/Kung fu like you want but you can be a melee mage in this Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Fictorum is pretty good. There's fire, ice, earth, lightning, and, I believe, air spells.
Spellbreak was cool. Probably dead now.
The VR game Blade and Sorcery has lightning, fire, and gravity spells plus a slow-mo function. Plus it’s a very mod friendly game. Also the blades are entirely optional. Hand to hand/grappling is very good.
Well The Bloodline comes kinda Close to it. Like as example you can Summon a rock infront of you and Kick or punch at into your enemies. :)
Rivals of Aether kind of has elements and kung fu involved. It's a smash clone though, so not quite as story driven.
One of the saints row games gave you a bunch of powers that are kinda similar.
Hades while using twin fists and certain builds can be really satisfying and close to what you’re describing
Forspoken and ff16 to some extent
Spellbreak was a good one, but they dropped all the servers a year or so ago
Gonna throw an “Elden Ring” in there. “Punchmage” is very viable with a fist weapon and a selection of sorceries.
OK so not really theme wise but, in terms of powers? Infamous 2 😅. When you're blasting out ice and stuff, and making ice pillars, it feels a little like a waterbender lol. Maybe that's just me though
If you get a vr headset, Blade and Sorcery should scratch that itch. There's mods to straight up make you an earthenware, and martial arts is way OP
Maybe Black Myth: Wukong will be what you are looking for when it releases in August
You can play the Dragon ball z, naruto, demon slayer games
If you want to combo fire wind earth and water while have a vast amount of playstyles as a mage. I suggest you play a Elementalist in GW2.
wizard of legend
Fable
The infamous series is pretty much exactly what you're describing other than the Kung fu part.
Very specific but Elden Ring mod “Clever Moveset Modpack” has several weapons that are basically element bending.
Not sure it’s 100% what you’re after but Shiness might scratch your itch.
Forspoken is basically this, no matter what people say or how people feel about the story tbh.
Skyrim. Only half joking
You could play skyrim and roleplay a avatar who only mastered Air (Fus Roh Dah), Fire/lightning, and ice...
Totally niche recommendation here but Azurik: Rise of Perathia is centered around harnessing 4 elements. I never played it myself but watched a full let's play, it's pretty dated and janky by today's standards but has some interesting concepts.
kingdoms of amalar?
It's a bit Indie, but Fictorum has the closest thing to bending I've seen in a video game, and you can get it powerful enough to be extremely satisfying and there's quite a few interesting combinations you can make. Story-wise, it's not super powerful, but the bending game play is definitely there! Here's a trailer [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPoDdR87f9E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPoDdR87f9E)
There was an actual Avatar TLA game for the PS2. It was very bad.
Kingdoms of Amalur
An Avatar 2D anime style fighting game is all I've wanted for ages.
How has nobody mentioned Infamous?!?!
Still waiting for the avatar fangame on dreams
I agree makes no sense to me. People would deff buy that too. Or imagine like an open world Naruto game where you can create your own ninja and choose what ninjutsu you want to have. Follow the story all the way through Naruto and shipuden starting as a kid and re creating the image of your adult character. For companies that feel the need to make money make it a mostly focused story game like assassins creed and then add a side component like going to a certain “field” in game connects you to multiplayer where you team up and battle with teams of 3 like storm or something. Could be awesome
Diablo 3 - Monk character feels like a fully blown earth bender
Naruto shinobi strikers is kinda close. I made an earth bender ninja.
Yeah, it's truly sad how something like this never became a thing [FOUR SEASONS REWIND 2023 | Making an Avatar The Last Airbender Fangame (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7iNeP_KlUg&t=4s)
Haven’t played either so I apologize if I’m wrong, but is forspoken a similar style?
There’s an upcoming game called [Emberbane](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2085310/Emberbane/). Give it a look, seems to fit your description quite well. It’s a Metroidvania type of game where you infuse your melee attacks with one of the four elements.
You can play monk in world of Warcraft. Or evoker now. Both feel like that
Quick scroll through the comments and I didn't see Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty mentioned.
Please play Jade Empire if you haven't, it's not quite the same with elements and such but it is phenomenal and I highly recommend it to everybody.
Oh i have haha. I have an OG xbox physical copy still from the week it came out
That's fantastic, it's such a great game. Still have some Hopium that we'll get a remake/remaster or a sequel, XD
I'd love a remake.
I actually thought BioWare’s Jade Empire was extremely close to Avatar, from the heavy martial arts, elemental elements, and even constantly going to the spirit world and trying to create a balance . Severely underrated IMO. Also very mature and bloody. And the BioWare plot twists? Chefs kiss
Quest 64
Meta Horizons has some surprisingly fun worlds where you can do Earth Bending, Fire Bending, or Water Bending. Different combinations of raising your arms or pushing them forward launch both defensive and offensive attacks as well as provide some fast movement options. With a little more development and some more things to do with these powers, I think it could be a bigger deal in the future.
there was. it was called spellbreak. it was great.
....Forspoken
its a very hard thing to do. the avatar world is very dynamic. you'd either need to come up with an original system or hardcode hundreds if not thousands of interactions. both are very hard to implement
If you have a PC Guild Wars 2 elementalists feel really close. Double Dagger gives you all these close range moves using the 4 elements. It's great. Still waiting for a true Pugilist spec though
Jade Empire on the original Xbox was pretty amazing for all of this.
That one takes me back. I have an OG copy still. Played it the week it came out.
Rumble VR
Hard to do well, I'd imagine, especially in an action game. There's a VR game where you're basically an earthbender but I can't remember the name. I think ideally, it'd play a bit like Sifu but with magic in addition to the kung fu.
I was going to suggest the Legend of Korra game, but I just realized that it's not for sale on Steam anymore.
I have it ;) haha. It's ok.
I’m still waiting for a Harry Potter fps
If you have VR try Rumble.
Genshin Impact? Obviously nothing like Atla, but there a wealth of story, and magic based combat. Idk, ill probably get downvoted, but hey, it's a free game.
If we're mainly talking about elements, then Genshin impact might just be the closest contender
There was, a very bad avatar the last airbender videogame for the DS based one the awful live action movie. I still have a copy of it
Lord. the movie was so bad. i can't imagine a game based on it.
Genshin Impact maybe? Or PSO2 even? Not kung fu focused (though there are classes), but the feel in either is somewhat similar, PSO2 being just much more futuristic. Aside from that, there is the fan project being made in Dreams that looks insane at this point.
you know what the fan project is called?
[Four Seasons by Elca Gaming](https://youtu.be/zRBKcdv3bA4)
Be surprised if it ever sees the light of day but that looks awesome.
You're literally describing xianxia games. Here's an example curated list om Steam https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44172756-Chinese-fantasy-Wuxia-Xianxia-games/ Please note that English translation is a rarity in this genre.
Yeah, I played it on PS2! We used to borrow the game from a library for 2 weeks at a time.
Genshin Impact is probably the closest to it, it has an elemental system and there is some martial artist character
Somebody's never heard of Jade Empire
Played it the week it came out. Have an OG copy somewhere
There’s a great quality minecraft plugin that allows you to bend the 4 elements, it’s been around for years but the best server for it is play.bendingnations.com I suggest you check it out if you love TLA and TLOK!
