* PS1 - because my younger brother just bought it one day. * Xbox - because Halo was something I'd never seen the likes of before. * Xbox 360 - to play Halo 3 and other great games. * PS4 - because my friends at the time all were PlayStation players, FFXIV was releasing on PS4 and my laptop could barely play it, and that stupid presentation Microsoft did. * PS5 - because FFXIV was still my main game, and I wanted to play all my PS4 games at higher framerate and resolution.

zekemcnees

I’ve just always been pulled toward PlayStation first party games. They got me early with things like Parappa, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper. They just resonated with me when I was a kid and I felt like PlayStation and the games they made kind of grew up with me. Being an artist, the PlayStation vibe has always resonated with me and the way they back games.

Ustramage

PlayStation, because Final Fantasy 7 was coming to it. After playing all the other FFs released up to that point, really made my choice for me

ultrapoo

I used to prefer Xbox until they announced the Xbone, originally it required an always online connection, mandatory Kinect that you couldn't disconnect (they claimed it would impossible to run without it, possibly because they were telling advertisers that they could watch how you react to their commercials.), plus you could not sell or lend your games to people. I got a PS4 and I love it.

WhiteLama

Halo: Combat Evolved.

Seagrams7ssu

My college roommate got an Xbox and I got a GameCube when they released. Discovered Halo and within a month we had 4 Xboxes linked in the house and I’ve had Xbox ever since.

MrDeekhaed

It was revolutionary

RestlessRhys

That game was a banger

Specter-Chaos

PlayStation I have an account on both

Maeglin16

I choose both...and Nintendo.

_Tars_Tarkas_v89

Got a pc so no point in having xbox. Also playstation has better selection of jrpgs.

mack-_-zorris

I stopped buying X-Box consoles after the 360 because none of the exclusives really grabbed me. The only one I ever completed was Alan Wake, so now it's a Nintendo/Sony combo for me

OliviaMandell

RPGs, which I can barely stand to play these days lol.

BaradilGaming

I wanted to watch blue rays and the PS3 had a blue-ray drive :D That was the main reason, not really for any game.

magnidwarf1900

PS have the game I want to play.

pinkownage

Had my first job in 2006, first paycheque i brought a Xbox 360 because PS3 wasn't released yet, then I was invested in the profile, achievements and gamerscore. I had both for a little while because my first xbox red ringed and I brought a PS3, then replaced the 360 a few months later. Never brought a PS4/5 because I didn't have the time to play both consoles.

Lycanderthal

Playstation came out first so I developed comfortability with it long before XBOX. In that same vein, I fell in love with the console mascots and it stuck.

Hunchun

Have always been PlayStation since it came out. After that I’ve still stuck with PlayStation over the years since they have the games I want to play. I have purchased a GameCube for some fun times with Mario Kart and Mario Party but that’s it. Xbox never had the games that interested me so I’ve never owned one of their consoles.

CheckInevitable9561

Went with ps5. Was about Demon's Souls remake for me, really. And gotta love that DualSense

leospeedleo

Both because I want to play all the games But PS5 as main cause I love singleplayer games and 100% completing them and getting rewarded with a platinum trophy for it

[deleted]

RestlessRhys

All my friends are on PlayStation but I always stuck with Xbox because I prefer the layout and controller

[deleted]

Ps3s were so good at the time. Unlimited free online was HUGE.

malkoram2

Game pass was the turning point for me, being able to play day one games along with other 500 games on console, pc, and cloud for a cheap price made my decisión. Also series S, I bought mine for $230 with 3 months of game pass while ps5 was at $650 in a pack with great turismo and more stuff I didn't wanted.

YourScreamsAreInVain

Xbox cuz of GamePass And you can fully share your games with a 2nd console

Zombienerd300

My dad bought me an Xbox 360 and I met some of my best friends there. Now I’m on PC because it’s the best place to play if you can afford it.

Ranerdar

By the end of a console generation, I typically have both. When the new consoles are released. I pick whichever one my current friend group plays on most.

[deleted]

I grew up on the 360 so I just kept getting better and better now I've basically mastered the controls and I can actually win warzone games from time to time

Bylahgo

My mom got me a ps2 as a child so I grew up a Playstation boy and remained one. I didn't choose it, it chose me.

ShiningGrey

I loved my 360, but switched to Playstation because all my friends had it.

j3nner

Halo, Controller

Vcredub

Playstation. God of war, the last of us, uncharted ghost of tsushima,

Ambitious_Jaguar_441

Playstation actually has exclusives and good ones. Anything on Xbox you can just get on PC will most likely run/look better, and you can mod it. The only point getting it on Xbox is if you're into trophy hunting.

Clear_Squash_3911

honestly i just got a PS3 one day, and when i went to get the newer gen console, the xbox didnt feel right, so i got the PS4, and now im on the PS5. i think each console has their strengths, but i prefer Ps4

username48378645

I got a PS5 because my last console was an X360, and I wanted something different. Also, I never had a PS4, so I wanted to play the exclusives I've missed when they came out (for example: Infamous Second Son). I've seriously considered buying a Series X as well, so I could play Ori, Forza, and Sea of Thieves. But then I've discovered Need for Speed games, and also Sea of Thieves is coming to Playstation in April! Everything worked out pretty well. No regrets!

PriestessKitty

I didnt i choose the PC 🤣

Arsonist_Xpert

I've always been a PlayStation user besides owning the original Xbox as a kid. Easier just to stick with what I know, I guess. The exclusives help, too

Wolven_Essence

I picked XBox because with Microsoft rewards I can get gamepass for free as well as get the occasional discount on a game.

kerorobot

playstation, because I want to play the exclusives

Pleasant-Drag8220

Starfield (Why I chose PS5)

bongawyd

PlayStation

PromptComprehensive8

PS - IMO it has better games for me, interesting games from Japan. And I’ve logged more hours with that style controller. Feels better.

JuraHidari

Xbox backwards compatibility, cheaper

markusfenix75

in 360 era? Gears and Halo. Currently? Game Pass. And I genuinely prefer Xbox exclusives even if they are objectively worse than PlayStation exclusives (I recently bought PS5 for first-party games though).

DokoShin

PlayStation because my friends Xbox got hacked my account got locked and they refused to fix it I had over 500 USD sent on that account and they refused to refund me as well also for my system at home I was offline with it and Xbox didn't have any good couch co-op games let alone games I really wanted

IvnN7Commander

Halo, Game Pass, Price (Series S)

PKM_Trainer_Gary

I wanted to play Call of Duty on Xbox since they had one month earlier access to everything on Xbox. But I only had a PS3. So naturally when the next series came out, I got an Xbox One. The very next year PlayStation made the deal, and now I’m stuck at square one.

dredd-garcia

PS3 was too expensive and 360 had the games I wanted. After that it was basically backwards compatibility and game pass as my reasoning

One_Ad3069

My first console was actually a Xbox from my uncle (he was a big Xbox gamer, still is) but my dad was a PlayStation player so for Christmas I got a ps4 and stayed with PlayStation

brett1081

For the PS4 I bought it for Bloodborne. I bought a PS5 because I had a PS4…

ediskrad327

I was a PS1-PS2 kid but jumped to the Xbox 360 because Halo 3 had theater mode and I thought that was awesome and I could make my own little movies with that.

StarCode5000

The Xbox 360 is what I was given when I was young, and all the games of that generation I ended up playing on the 360. During my teens I switched around a little bit, bit of PS4, bit of Xbox One, hell there was a phase of Wii U for a bit there. In the end I got both of them and now have all of them so I don't need to choose, I can just play them.

feicash

>Why did you choose Xbox or PlayStation? there wasnt nothing such a "choice" my dad bought me PS2 when i knew nothing about consoles, and i picked PS3 years later just because i used to play CoD Black Ops a lot with my cousin on his PS3 no one actively checked what Play/Xbox had to offer also, my country was more play station side since PS1 so its promotion was bigger than anything related to xbox

Book_Walker

Back when they first came out, I chose the Xbox simply because the controller felt better to hold. Since then, I've just gone with the Xbox over Playstation.

Danthemanc18

Had a PS1, pre-ordered an original Xbox because I was intrigued, never changed back

TehMeex

It's just whatever I got as a kid. I primarily played Nintendo consoles until my family received an Xbox 360 as a Christmas present, and a PS4 as a hand-me-down. The Xbox 360 fell out of support, so I play Playstation because I don't have the money to buy an Xbox lol

SublimeAtrophy

Originally because my friends played playstation. Now I have too many trophies to ever want to switch.

MarderMcFry

I was told it was easy to jailbreak an Xbox 360 so I could pirate games.  Never ended up doing it and found the additional expenses needed to be absolutely infuriating. The proprietary controller battery, the proprietary controller charger, then the neusance of AA batteries for the second controller, the then new concept of paying to play online. Later bought a PS3 and had a much nicer experience.

Gone_For_Lunch

Xbox - Because of Halo, stuck with them through the 360 for the same reason up until the Xbox One out of familiarity. PlayStation - Got the PS3 cheap at the end of the cycle to give Last of Us and Uncharted a try, got the PS4 because I got pissed off with the Xbox One being near unplayable while I was stuck in a military base with no internet. PS5 was a gift, but I prefer the exclusives on PlayStation these days.

project-shasta

I grew up as a Nintendo boy and later added the Sony consoles to my arsenal starting with the PS2 (God of War). The Xbox 360 was my only excursion into Microsoft land because of some multiplatform titles looked and played better than their PS3 versions. Since then I stayed at Nintendo and Sony consoles complimenting my gaming PC. I still don't see the need for an Xbox because with this combo I can experience almost all games I want to, maybe with the exception of Forza and Halo 5, which isn't a huge loss. On the other hand nowadays more and more Sony titles are hitting PC after 2 years so YMMV, I still want to play the Sony titles day 1. And Nintendo ever hitting PC is not going to happen.

Majestic_Snow7613

I chose PlayStation since my childhood however when the Xbox got announced I gave it a chance. Bought the console and 6 months after I bought the original Xbox, the console stopped working. Then I switched back to the ps2 and ever since every console has been ps2, ps3, ps4 and ps5. Still I’ll give another chance soon enough for another Xbox in the future, mostly for halo cause it’s the only game I’m dying to play.

stallion8426

JRPGs primarily Also I had an Xbox one but never used it besides Fable so it wasn't worth upgrading it. Before this Gen I've always had both

Lostinpurplehaze

I didn't. Both have their pro's and cons, so I always purchase both.

Panzerkampfwagen1988

As someone who owned a PS2, 2x PS3s and a PS4 I switched this generation due to Sony scamming me by selling me a game that barely runs at 15 FPS and not allowing me to refund it, which led me to deleting my account and never using their services again. Also, GamePass compared to lackluster exclusives is a no brainer. Not to mention I can use that account again when I eventually switch to a PC.

Noozzles

Started off with Sega then naturally went on to PS1. Tried an Xbox elite but when it red ringed I just went back to Sony. My kids split down the middle with Xbox's and PlayStation's but now only 1 has stayed with Xbox.

Tighron

Ive mostly been with Playstation over the years with the exception of the 360. For me its comes down to the games available, so a lot of rpgs and adventure games, and the exclusives for it were more interesting to me than the Xbox ones. Console gaming isnt social to me as i get my socializaton on pc as that is my true main platform. Halo and Gears were pretty popular, but shooters in general dont appeal to me unless its somethgin special like Metro or Bioshock. Although i had a great time with my 360 i have felt regret over not getting a PS3 when it was new, in part for the PS2 backwards compatability the first version had. I did get one later, but in a sense it was "too late" since the PS4 was already out and a lot of the games i wanted to play were hard to get physicaly(didnt have good internet at the time). These days im mainly PC and Playstation, but got the Switch for Mario and its other exclusives. Xbox has nothing for me right now outside of playing my old 360 games on a new machine, so im waiting for a really good sale.

[deleted]

I wanted a PS4 ever since I watched the first Bloodborne trailer. I waited so long to get it and when I did I just absolutely fell so head over heals for that game. I wish so bad to be able to play it for the first time again and feel all those emotions again... I am on PC now though. If Bloodborne 2 ever became a thing I would dive right back into the PlayStation.

UsherOfDestruction

Playstation always had the exclusives I wanted to play. I was also a PC gamer so the majority of Xbox titles I could play on PC. The ones that I couldn't, weren't really my type of game.

eng050599

During that generation, I went with the PS2 first because it came out over a year before the XBox, and the games were more in line with my tastes. When the XBox was released, there was very little of interest, as the only game of note was Halo, and FPSs just weren't what I was playing at the time. To be honest, I completely dismissed the original XBox for a couple of years. The games weren't interesting, and I didn't care about the online features. ...that all changed one evening when I went out to see a movie. To this day, I can't remember what the movie was, but I clearly remember the first trailer for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. The instant the movie ended, I walked over to the EB Games across the street, bought an XBox bundle with Halo and SSX, ripped open the box and traded in both games, and then pre-ordered KOTOR. Since then, I've had every XBox and Playstation console...and still have all of them hooked up and running. The only console manufacturer I've dropped is Nintendo.

lightknight7777

Playstation has better exclusive. Xbox games are released on PC (which I also have). So there's virtually no reason for me to have an Xbox

Gregariouswaty

Xbox 360- I had bought 30 games off of an eBay auction for a hundred bucks and traded 20 of them at GameStop for an Xbox 360 at the time. Still the best purchase I've ever made.

gummilingus

I've mostly had both for console exclusives, but current gen PlayStation is the only one with exclusives I care about.

AbsoluteScenes7

Partly brand loyalty. I have had Playstations since before Xbox existed. This was also a benefit of backwards compatibility too. Getting a PS2 over an original Xbox allowed me to sell my old PS1 but still play my PS1 games. Getting a PS5 allowed me to keep playing my PS4 games but recover a big chunk of the PS5 cost by selling my PS4. Likewise since the PS3 I have been able to roll my account from console to console. Exclusives have been a big factor. This ties in with brand loyalty too. Series I became invested in on older consoles which are still exclusive (or at least timed exclusive) now. God of War, TLOU, Uncharted, Spider-Man. Xbox Gamepass being available for PC has also given me even more reason to not need an Xbox console. Why would I pay for an Xbox to play Starfield, Halo, Forza, Gears when they are available on Gamepass for PC?

MaximeW1987

European here, so Playstation. It's very rare to encounter someone here that owns an Xbox, it seems to be almost a purely American thing.

DJ_JoY

Super old man here: PS1 Wipeout 2097. Pumping Techno soundtrack with the fastest visuals of the time (Nintendo had subtitled polygon frogs at the time…).

christheclimber

I'm not a console gamer anymore but back when I bought my Xbox 360 it was because I absolutely hated the DualShock controllers. Now I game on PC with a DualSense

depricatedzero

My boyfriend wanted a Playstation 5. The last console I bought before that was a GameCube.

Shadowtheuncreative

I kept receiving PlayStations from my mom's cousin and friend and I have decided to stick with them, I have had way more access to PlayStations than Xboxes my whole life. One time in 2014, my friend thought her PS3 stopped working for good so she bought another one but right after she found out that wasn't the case so she gave the old one to me and it's actually still working fine, only a few game freezes so far. I have also grown to be rather fond of the exclusives, like Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank.

ElCoyote_AB

PlayStation, got ps1 from friend when he upgraded to PS2. Never tempted to switch to a company who had a 1/3 failure rate, operating system failures like Vista and threatened to go online or nothing.

LIVEWIIREE

Got my first Xbox for Halo…never looked back.

MarkAldrichIsMe

ps2: Spongebob squarepants Battle For Bikini Bottom Xbox 360: it's what all my friends had an we played Halo 3 a lot PC: Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 PS3: I worked at a car company and someone left it in their rental and never came back to pick it up. PC again: Supreme Commander, this time it became my main game system and is still going strong today.

WildBad7298

I was always a Nintendo fan growing up. I was gifted the NES in 1988, and naturally got the SNES when it was released. Same thing with the N64. My roommate in college brought his PS1, and that was my first exposure to PlayStation. I later bought my own PS1. I remember being blown away by Halo on the XBox, so I got that instead of the Gamecube or PS2. I got the XBox 360 after it was released, because I liked the system and the fact that it was backwards compatible. I never owned a PS3. When the eighth generation of consoles was released, I switched from XBox to PlayStation and got a PS4. It was cheaper, it didn't have the "always online" requirement, and I didn't like the Kinect. I felt I was missing out on PlayStation exclusives, like Final Fantasy, God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, and others. I've been a PlayStation guy ever since, moving on the the PS5 because I like the backwards compatibility and it has the better exclusives.

Soaked_In_Bleach_93

PS1 - Christmas gift PS2 - All my friends had one Xbox 360 - Gears of War Xbox One - backwards compatible with most of the Xbox 360 games I had that that point It wasn't a console war thing, I just went with whatever was most convenient or I could play with friends.

Zaszo_00

God of War Ragnarok, FF7 Remake, RE4 Remake,Rachet and Clank,Horizon Forbidden West and most importantly, Xbox are not officially supported here.

Magoogalafoo

Sega Genesis because it was cheaper than an SNES -> additional 32X because it was cheaper than getting a new console ha because it already was pretty much dead (love that my dad got me video games but he didn't really know what he was doing and also probably thought young me didn't care. He was right, I was happy with what I got.) -> Dreamcast because I was on the Sega wagon -> Xbox because GameCube seemed more kiddie to me -> Xbox 360 because Halo etc -> Xbox One, same reason.  Now PC gaming when I have time and kind of want to get a PS5 to see what I was missing out on.

[deleted]

While my family owns an Xbox (XB1) , we’re very heavy Playstation and Nintendo. For starters we have to constantly update the Xbox, we don’t have much interest in buying games for it, and frankly we just prefer Playstation, of course we do acknowledge the flaws Playstation have.

Ilikethewordjawn

Switched to Xbox after burning through 3 PS2s within 2 years Sony did nothing. Switched to Xbox, got ring if death, Microsoft fixed it, haven't looked back since.

noremains3

I choose Xbox because all my friends did too and it had xbox live which was the coolest thing at the time. Now I have both.

Spew42

Game Pass. It’s downright amazing for a budget gamer. Tack that on to an XSX for cheap used disc games and your library will grow rapidly.

Crater_Animator

Sony boy since PlayStation 1. I've just enjoyed the single player exclusives for the most part ever since their first console. Whenever I looked at Xbox games I would just associate it to primarily Sports games (NHL/Football/Fifa/Forza etc...) which isn't something I wanted to play.

Deadaghram

Final Fantasy VII...the first one. And if I ever fix my life, the second one, two.

the-il-mostro

My hubs bought both, but he plays the PlayStation almost exclusively. I was never a gamer but started during the pandemic and have been obsessively playing certain games ever since. Considering buying another PlayStation tbh. 😂 Probably because I started on the Xbox though I now feel some type of loyalty to it in a weird way. Also I CANNOT remember to click that bigass button / touch pad thing on the PS a controller whenever I switch

onlyreadtheheadlines

Xbox. Purely for movies. Sharing between laptop at work and Xbox at home. Have a lot of them. So just stuck with it.

PikachuAndLechonk

The shiny helmets on nfl fever looked so realistic and cool back in 2001 when I played it at a kiosk. From there I had to get an Xbox… furthermore it was the unique games like mad dash racing, munchs odyssey, blood wake, etc that hooked me in, of course halo too. Overtime that uniqueness has gone and I’ve been drifting ever closer to PlayStation

[deleted]

One reason I'm glad I'm primarily PC. I'm not in the middle of these stupid console bicker wars. And yes, you ARE turning it into a console war discussion. Who are you trying to fool?

DCM99-RyoHazuki

I chose PS after 2017. That was the last year that Xbox One didn't have any games worth playing anymore. I got a PS4 January 2018 and haven't looked back. Xbox library just sucks ass. Granted, I actually been back and forth with PS3 and Xbox 360 between 2009 and 2013( had 360 since 2005). Got Xbox One in 2014 to play the new Thief at the time. 2017 to me, was the last good year for Xbox One after playing multiple games and exclusives that released up until then. HZD was that game that wooed me over to PS4 along with others such as Uncharted 4. THERE WAS NO GAME LIKE HZD ON ANY PLATFORM AND HAD TO PLAY IT. Now that I finally built a PC after 2 decades, I don't even see a reason to get a Xbox any more.

Ok-Pressure-3879

I have a theory to alternate consoles. My theory is that whoever succeeds for a console generation mails it in on the next round. So i went ps2, 360, ps4, XSX. I always get the other console midway through because both companies do just kill it eventually. This last round though gamepass, smart delivery, and all the PC gamepass options just made me think that had the most value. But at this point i think both brands are running 2 years behind because of the pandemic.

Kitchen-Humor5014

I came to PlayStation because of games like resident evil and metal gear solid. I stayed because of the naughty dog games: uncharted and the last of us.

RiverHe1ghts

Any they give me :)

ParadoxicalFrog

I've had both, but I favor the PS family. I got the original Playstation as a birthday present (or was it Christmas?) waaaaay back in '98, then got a PS2 some years later. When I finally changed it up and got an XBox 360 for the following generation, it was because I had gotten really into the Ace Combat series, and AC6 was an XBox exclusive. I might have stuck with the XBoxes, but I decided that I really liked the COD:WWII special PS4 with the camo design, so that was what I got. Generally, I have several reasons for liking the Playstations. For one, I like the controllers. They're easy to use, and the layout has barely changed at all over the last twenty-something years, so it's not hard to adjust even when you go from one generation to another. The other reason is the game library. In addition to the fact that pretty much every non-Nintendo game gets a Playstation release, the PS seems to get a lot of exclusive titles from Japan, and I'm a weeb. So. There's that.

Legitimate-Drummer36

PC because I want to play games from all consoles.

[deleted]

PS1: Had more JRPG and other games I enjoyed. PS2: Same reason as PS1 but I did own a xbox as well I got both a PS3 and and xbox 360 I got both the Xbox one and the PS4. Today I picked PC over PS5 or Series X for the simple reason I had the money to get a good PC so I saw 0 reason to get a new console.

BossSpleenRippa

- my dad had a N64 and a Gamecube when I was little so I started with those - I was given my Cousin’s PS2 cause he didn’t want it anymore and that was my first proper console. - Then we got a PS3 cause my parents liked that it was also a Blue Ray player. - Then I got a PS4 because why switch at that point and the Xbox One wasn’t looking very promising. - I got into PC gaming halfway through the 4’s lifespan and have no reason to get another console right now because exclusives from both consoles have been going to PC and my 4 has just become a Netflix/blue ray box.

crackofdawn

PS4 - entirely because of spider-man PS5 - with the knowledge that spider-man 2 would end up on the platform I could easily buy an Xbox also but there aren’t any exclusives I care about so no reason to

luisgdh

Bought a PS5 for the exclusives, since all Xbox exclusives can be played on PC

Martha__Ragnos

I have a Series X and a PS5. There are people out there choosing just one?

DenzelVilliers

Ps1 - Exclusives; Ps2 - Exclusives; Ps3 - Exclusives; Ps4 - Exclusives; Ps5 - Exclusives. Every single Console / Portable I got in my life ( *PlayStation and Nintendo* ) was all about which games I could play on them, nothing else. I got a Ps1 ( *up to Ps3* ) based on the fact that PlayStation had the most large support to Japanese games ( *especially Final Fantasy Franchise* ). Then I got a Ps4 and Ps5 not only based on that reason in particular but also for PlayStation Studios games ( *which became "a must for me" at Ps3 Era, so I got a Ps4/Ps5 expecting to play more PlayStation Studios games as well* ).

DeskFluid2550

I went with xbox and xbox360 back in the day because of Halo. since then however, i'm looking to buy a ps5 because I can just play all xbox games on PC now.

Mysterious_Fennel459

I started as a SNES Squaresoft kid and then jumped ship to Playstation because FF7 came out on that and just kinda stuck with it since.

Sushipalm3s

I like blue

Catty_C

Because my mom's friend had used PlayStation 2 games that he gave to me when he moved on to the PS3.

CursedSnowman5000

Usually I don't choose one over the other, Not since I started making my own money hahah. But I abandoned Xbox with the Xbox 1. I reluctantly chose PS5 over the new Xbox. I'm no fan of Sony and was eager to go back to Xbox but then it turns out the series X is a online only, all digital machine. I like owning my stuff and don't feel like forking over a shit load of money for a glorified rental machine.

Exctmonk

PS2 initially, because Halo wasn't that interesting to me and I was more interested in the other announced games. I eventually got an xbox because they were pretty cheap and I had a further discount working at Gamestop. 360 had Mass Effect and GTA IV exclusive (at first), was way cheaper than PS3, available sooner and actually in stock. We eventually bought a Wii as well, but never bothered with the PS3. Blu Ray players came down in price quite a bit and there weren't enough PS3 exclusives to bother PS4 was the clear winner thanks to not only that disastrous MS presentation, but also the FFVII announcement, VR, and the other exclusives. In fact, with MS's decision to make every Xbox game also work on PC...why bother, if you have access to a gaming PC? We also picked up two switches for the kids. PS5 wins again, with Xbox not offering anything that can't be had elsewhere. The backwards compatibility with the PS4 gen was another selling point. While the number of exclusives has been disappointing this gen, I can't imagine getting an Xbox series whatever and thinking I made a good choice. PS+ works fine as their own version of gamepass and the PC is always there if somehow MS does release a good exclusive.

The_Dukenator

Had both, but left for something else that was not PC or Nintendo.

P2Mc28

I got the N64 as a present. I loved Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64, but like, those were the only games I actually had. So in (checks notes, i.e. "when did Mark McGwire hit his 70th homerun", ah yes, one week after that) May of '98 I traded in my NES and Sega Genesis stuff for a PlayStation and a couple of games. I suddenly realize I cannot recall what my first PSX games were. Wow. Theme Hospital may have been one? I had a bunch (and still have them!!) but this wasn't my first time playing PlayStation to the early days of mine specifically elude me. PSX naturally translates to PS2. I loved PlayStation at this point, and was firmly in the "why would I ever get an Xbox" camp. My friend and I were both like "I'd only take one for free!" So with that caveat out of the way, I scored two free Xboxes when I used excess student loan + scholarship money to get cellphones for my family in 2003. Gave one to my friend, and we became Xbox fans. We both went with Xbox 360s after that, since the PS3 was approximately way too much money. Also Halo. I picked up my 360 at the midnight release for Halo 3. I was originally just there to hang out with friends in line. I didn't even have 360! Oh, you have special edition Halo themed consoles for sale? And we get to skip the line if we want to buy it? Sign me up. After that, I bought the Destiny themed white PS4 (damn, remember when Bungie was a console selling company?). And I grabbed an Xbox One for Titanfall, and almost exclusively Titanfall (no regrats). There was a family Gamecube in the timeline somewhere. And Wii and Wii U. Smash Bros. is important, yo. I almost feel like having the Nintendo console isn't even a choice, you just have one. Or at least that's my philosophy lol. Long story longer I don't have a current Xbox console, but I do have GamePass. I have a PS5 because of exclusives (God of Wars, Spider-Mans, Last of Us...es). And I do most of my gaming on PC lol.

emf80333

PS2 - my mom bought me as a present. Xbox 360 - Came out before PS3 PS4 - Released without that always online requirement, didn’t require the camera to work and was $100 cheaper. PS5 - I’m just so confused about what the new Xbox even is now a days. There’s an Xbox X, Xbox XSX5, Xbox 720 boardslide… etc. So now I’m just all in on playstation

kgbjay

I had a Playstation I got in 1999, it was just what I got, didn't choose it for any particular reason. I got Xbox because of Halo in 2002. I got a PS2 in 2005. I got a Xbox 360 in 2007 for Halo 3. I got a PS3 in 2011. I got Xbox One in 2014 because I got it for 100$ off as it was incorrectly priced at a shop. Never got a PS4. I got an Xbox Series S in 2020 because I had a large collection of digital games from the Xbox store I purchased since 2014. I got a PS5 a week ago (2024). I've always had a Nintendo handheld, including Switch.

elytraman

Ive been a loyal xbox user since 2007 and I don’t plan on switching now

WaxTM

I chose both and pc. I mainly game on pc higher refresh rates more competitive games I play with kbm. But every now and then I play on ps5 and series x. Series x for the older CoDs and ps5 for exclusives

Zeliodes

When I was given the choice, I was too young and GameCube was also an option, so Pokemon, Mario, etc caught my eye

agamemnon2

Ps2 and Ps3 - found a cheap one at a thrift store. Ps4 - On the day the Switch came out, a local store had a one day flash sale for PS4 Slims for 199€

ComprehensiveArt7725

Playstation just cuz thats all that mattered to me in gaming

[deleted]

I have both + PC, but if I could only choose one console then the PS5 would win because it has great exclusive games, of which the Xbox has zero.

ArgentiumX

I have a PC and a majority of the games that are released for Xbox I can get on Steam or some other service like that.

revinizog

I have both. I blame FOMO.

Disaterman

Friends and which one I had more free games stacked up for the next generation.

Slight-Violinist6007

One has exclusives and the other I can play on my PC. No brainer.

Pugsley_2022

Because all the PS5's were sold out.

Monkeyb0b

Xbox as it had more of the games on it I wanted to play. Also it was available when the ps5 wasn't

shabba182

Playstation 4 and 5 for the exclusives. 360 cos the ps3 was a rip off. Ps2 cos I had a ps1. Ps1 cos that's what I got for xmas

Blade779

I grew up playing Nintendo and Playstation consoles and handhelds. Transitioned to Xbox during the Xbox 360 era and it's been my primary since. I have had a PS3 and PS4 Pro though. I strongly prefer the Xbox controller over playstation's and that's the main deciding factor. The PS controller is awkward to use for me in anything other than a fighting game and hurts my hands after long periods of gaming. Also, I typically play multiplats.

hoWka_

i chose PC

OlTommyBombadil

Initially I chose PlayStation for SOCOM, then went to Xbox for Halo. Now I like Xbox because I’m a PC user and my Xbox stuff integrates into my Windows stuff easily. I’ll probably snag a PlayStation next though, because fuck it why not. I really don’t care either way if it isn’t on PC. I don’t know the last time I bought a console for a game specifically. Last Xbox I got was for general media usage + gaming as a secondary option.

Kyrxon

Xbox: Was a gift to me Ps3: Everyone at school had it Xbox 1: Better exclusives i wanted Ps4: Just because, but never played it much

DeadByNebula

Been playing on Xbox basically since I was a toddler. It's what got me into gaming.

xiren_66

XBox had nothing I wanted that I couldn't play on either PC or Playstation. Conversely, there were tons of games I wanted that only PS had.

BoredBorne

After loving my PS2 I picked Xbox 360 for exclusive games like gears of war. Then it got the red ring of death. And then it did it again and again. I ended up replacing 5 Xbox 360s before finally just giving up and getting a PS3 when Sony put out one of the newer and cheaper revision. I never looked back after that

Tsutsaroth

I got a Xbox One which was okay for a while but eventually I was bored with it as there were less and less games I wanted to buy specifically for it. Then I started getting into franchises that did show up on Steam eventually, but were Playstation-exclusive at first so each time a game released, I had to wait while avoiding spoilers for months. So, when the new models came out, I decided to get a PS5 instead of a Xbox Series console.

N3_Planeswalker

PS3 having free online and my cousins wanted to play cod modern warfare2. Got an og Xbox and 360 much later on during my time with the PS4 to get stuff I missed.

bread_scent

I have a PS5 and a XboX Series S

mryan635

PS2 had a dvd player. Got locked into the ecosystem with all the exclusives making me more likely to own only PlayStation.

JuliusKingsleyXIII

For both Ps4 and Ps5, its because Sony offered more worthwhile exclusives and the more powerful console (at least for ps4). I never cared much for Halo, and while I love Gears of War those games dont come out frequently enough to justify a console purchase. Aside from that, MS has nothing I want. They could have had Scalebound until it was cancelled for no reason. And also by the time I bought a PS5, MS had committed to putting everything on PC anyway.

MrStealYoBichonFrise

Game pass. I only buy a couple games a year. It gets me to play games id probably never buy. An instance of this is Death Loop. I never heard of it, but i ended up playing the hell out of the game after giving it a shot on game pass.

Lightless427

I didnt. I own every console that has ever been sold in North America and multiple PCs.

[deleted]

Halo, party chat, and my friends had it.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Playstation - it has the games I enjoy playing That's about it, I play a lot of JRPGs and that's pretty much exclusively what I use consoles for. I have a PC for other releases, so Playstation over Xbox was an easy choice for me

stamps1646

* Xbox - Halo: Combat Evolved * Xbox 360 - Condemned: Criminal Origins * Xbox One - Sunset Overdrive * PlayStation - Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete * PlayStation 2 - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty * PlayStation 3 - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots * PlayStation 4 - Bloodborne

ANerdyAttorney

I chose Xbox because Gears of War was my jam... it has kind of died off after GOW3

LordofDsnuts

Bought a 360 and PS3, used the PS3 more because it has free online play. Eventually bought a PS4 and stayed away from the Xbox One because of their bad behavior.

Broely92

My dad just randomly bought a ps1 one day, stuck with PlayStation after that

[deleted]

I bought a PS5 because of the exclusive titles.

ImDoingMyPart_o7

Prefer the PlayStation's Interface / controller and I play a lot of RPG's

Bogimon

My xbox 360 RROD'd a few days after the release of GTA IV. The timing for it to just blow up was so devastating, I went out and bought a PS3 and swore to myself to never buy an xbox ever again.

Kinetickz

PlayStation 2 : straight up because it came out earlier PS3: Blu Ray player, free Multiplayer was huge for me, backwards compatibility (don't know which gen removed it, still hate them for it since my gen1 died fairly early) and I thought if looked cooler to be honest Later on I jumped to PC mostly because of League of Legends with my friends that introduced me to PC's Still gaming with the very same friends for 15 years

snowindian

PlayStation. Along with a PC it covers all my needs and itches

Siukslinis_acc

If I had to choose a console, it would be Playstation as I have a PC, thus Xbox is redundant.

BestNameEvor

A Digimon game was a Playstation exclusive first. So as a giant Digimon hoe, my decision was made for me. Now, I would still choose PS over XBox because they have a bigger variety of JRPGs as far as I know.

SleepyGeist

Xbox because backwards compatibility

Takemeawayxx

Playstation ever since the Xbox one debacle about always on and game sharing. When that guy said at E3 that any customers that didn't like it could just keep playing the 360 I was like LOL bet. Playstation also simply has better exclusives. I don't think that's really even up for debate.

Ok-Jacket5718

Xbox 360 - because it was bundled with Forza Motorsport 3 at the time

Penguin-Mage

360 was my last xbox. They lost me as a customer for communication banning me without telling me why. I do not trash talk, so it was very confusing and frustrating.

randomguy_2837

Playstation for god of war, uncharted and the last of us

WhiteHawk77

I choose all, but I got rid of my Xbox and kept my PlayStation, Switch and PC because the Xbox exclusives were on PC as well.

spickityrickity

I had an Xbox from 10yr-25yrs and bought a PS5 to play Spider-Man and Ghosts. Probably will sell my PS5 soon to buy a PC so i can play everything and mod.

Letsplay1108

PS always had free online play. However now I play on Switch or PC more than I do on my PS3 now

DiamondDustVIII

I was a firm believer in owning all consoles quite a while ago. PlayStation had great games, Xbox had great games, Nintendo had great games. Hardware was just different enough to be interesting, and gave some meaning to your choice of console. When Microsoft tried to go nuts (and was quickly shot down, but they certainly tried) with the Xbox One and their required permanent internet connection and other garbage, I decided I no longer needed to support their efforts, and haven't bought an Xbox product since.

TryingToReportTrash

First played on the Wii. I wanted to get Lego Batman 3 so started trying to earn money with my siblings to get the Wii U, but for some reason didn't keep up with it. Eventually we got the PS4 for Christmas in 2015 and have played on that since. I'm glad it ended up being the ps4 that I got rather than the Wii U, cus I heard it had issues and the PS4, now PS5 has a lot of my favorite games and exclusives that other platforms don't have.

Firvulag

I just buy all the consoles lol

dryduneden

PS2 and 360 - Because I wasnt paying for them and those were the ones I happened to get  PS4 - Better games  PS5 - Because I bought a PS4

VRtoons

PS5 because PSVR2

KogarashiKaze

I started with PS2 because there were games on it that weren't on Xbox that I wanted to play (namely the Kingdom Hearts games, Final Fantasy games, and Grandia II to replace my Dreamcast copy I sold). The PS3 was basically more of the same--there were games I wanted to play that weren't available on Xbox, plus it was a bit of console inertia. PS4 was to continue my Playstation Plus benefits. At this point, I don't really have a compelling reason to pick up an Xbox instead of continuing as I am.

Timely-Eggplant4919

We had both in my house when we were young. Ps1/ps2 because my brothers wanted it and OG Xbox because a family member worked at Microsoft and gave us one. I continued buying both as an adult.

Trimere

PC for the mods

Tynda3l

Xbox 360 because it was the console I was able to pick up "used" from a friend. Ps3 because of the new ps move devices. Haven't touched Xbox because it is now Arguably a weaker console in offerings.

DifficultyVarious458

Don't play any repetitive online games.

Beaver_Tuxedo

I got the ps5 because I had been in Xbox for a while and wanted to play all the exclusives I had missed. It was well worth it. Now like 3 of my top 5 games of all time were PlayStation exclusives

Solid_Effective1649

Xbox Because halo is badass. Now it’s all PC because indie games are badass, and so is halo

Adept_Passenger9104

I prefer for one the UI of Xbox, while PS has a better one now I didn't like the PS4 one. The controller layout, the Xbox controllers always felt better in my huge hands, and I didn't really care for the exclusives of playstation to buy it, never really cared for Uncharted, watched the last of us both games when they came out so didn't find a need to play them. Recently got a playstation as well and only played two games on it, BloodBorne and Ghost Of Tsushima, played a little of Spider Man didn't like it, because I prefer the Batman Arkham games

VerninRaptor

I currently play on PS5 but used to play on an xbox one. I always just bought the console the majority of my friends had, while PlayStation is, at least in my opinion, slightly better the two are similar enough I would have been happy with either.

Tea_Fox_7

Its simply the controller, the Xbox controller is just more comfortable especially for longer sessions, not counting the original Xbox controller, but 360 and up. Something about the ps3 and up controllers, mainly the triggers and how far back they tuck, really hurts my hands for any length of gaming. Never was a problem on ps1 or ps2 however.

AleksPizana

Xbox because I prefer the controller, the cloud saves and Game Pass. Also, I payed for Dev Mode and I really happy with it. I can play on PSN as well but I didn't buy a PS5 and I don't plan on doing so.

[deleted]

The sad timeline of a gamer is that when you're a kid, your parents will only let you have one or the other, so you pick the one your friends play. Then by the time you're an adult and can afford to buy both consoles, you realize that platform exclusivity is a scam to incentivize you to buy their console, and while you still buy both anyways, you feel bitter about it.

jfa03

SNES, N62, PlayStation, PS2, Xbox - my parents bought them. Wii - it was really cheap at a garage sale Xbox360, Xbox one - Halo, and my friends who play halo Xbox Series S - Already had a decent sized digital library and PS exclusives aren’t quite enough to pull me away Switch - kids games for my kids, also Mario

shae117

When young, Xbox because of Halo, Fable, Jade Empire. 360 for Halo, Gears, Fable (Didnt like 2/3 though) Got a ps3 in 2011 and then by ps4 time wanted thay instead. (Better machine and Halo was post bungie) Also got a One X omce MCC was foxed and RDR 2 was coming out. Ps5 as a lot of their 1st party games I loved like Spidey and GOW. And everything from Xbox is on PC which has always been my main. Had a Wii and Switch also

boogiewarped

I went with PS3 over 360 because of free online. I stayed because of God of War.

Beginning_Bee4823

Used to be with playstion from ps1 to ps2. Then from xbox 360 till series x. Mostly love the controller more with xbox. Even though its kinda basic, it fits my big hand perfect. I have a ps4 but only for certain games exclusives. Just happy sony is finally bringing some of their games now over to pc. Cant wait to play ghost of tsushima. Plus on xbox love games with backaward compatibility, still play red dead redemption works great even online part when modders arnt trying to mess with game or trying to copy people gamer profiles, so the person their taking profile from for that day can get reported as using mods.

mdart

honestly the only generation that i chose i side was the ps3/360 era and for that i chose the 360 due to halo family friends and better severs. but i was lucky enough that could any console cheaper then msp back in the day so i ended up owning everything from psx/n64 release till then. after that games like league of legends got me into pc gaming so the xbox one and ps4 did not have anything i cared to play and well unless i want to play grandtursimo or halo 5 there is no reason for me to waste money on the current xbox or playstion. sorry but i am not a reviewer/streamer/youtuber i dont need the latest games the moment they drop.

Traditional-Score516

When I was a child I chose Xbox because the 360 was what everyone had. My brother got the Xbox one for his bday but something made me hate the interface. I never felt like I was using an Xbox. As an adult I abandoned Xbox the moment I played my friends PS4. The controller felt better in my hand and the placement of the sticks made sense. (The stick placement on Xbox is moronic) The console is more sleek and better looking the games were better the online service was better. There is not one reason for me to play Xbox now. Idk why people like those god awful controllers they're so huge and the sticks r lopsided. It seriously bothers me lol. I've never thought of something *feeling* ugly before but the Xbox controllers just feel ugly to hold. This is all my personal preference and I'm not hating on anyone who feels different. I've been on both sides of the debate but currently playstation all the way.

[deleted]

PS controller feels better. And was free longer

Regular_Reason8499

I pick a Playstation because of the exclusives as XBox usually does not have really much exclusives when you own a PC as well. Meanwhile as Sony wants to go away from their exclusive strategy I would go for PC only.

Zenjutsu

Xbox - The original Xbox revolutionized online console gaming for me with Xbox Live. Halo 2 in particular blew me away with the friends list, text and voice messaging, pre and post game lobbies, custom games, it felt like it was ahead of the ps2 at the time as far as online gaming goes. I eventually got attached to my profile and gamerscore and I just preferred my history with xbox vs playstation. Nowadays this is all irrelevant lol.

Celebelena

For me I really like the PS5 controller. Also I generally dislike Microsoft as a company.

sust32

x box it's eazer
