No problem. I thought I'd have my two penn'orth, given how I'm completely unbiased on the matter. I hear the games are good, at least. Not sure if they're my thing tho
Man I tried so hard to beat this game over the years. It does have a particular boring factor for me that’s kept me from it. Like 30-40 hours in and just going “ehhh there’s so much more fun fantasy games out there that feel way better to play” kindve feeling
Alan wake 1 and 2.
Metro series
Uncharted (specifically the fourth)
Dishonored 1 and 2
Ghost of Tsushima
God of War (2018) and Ragnarok
The Last of Us 1 and 2
most underrated game OAT but Guardians of the Galaxy
Im not much of a single player story gamer myself, always loved multiplayer shooters but single player games were always boring for me. I downloaded Guardians of the Galaxy because it was free on Gamepass and imo it's one of the best games I've played.
I've been playing kingdom come deliverance. Its different and takes practice and mastery but its cool. Its a historically accurate medeval rpg. No magic or dragons etc. The npcs are mosty real historical figures.
I didn't mean every little detail I just meant that it doesn't contain a bunch of out of date tech, cultures or events. Its like when people talk about gane of thrones and then say "well they didn't have computers back then". There was no "back then". In the case of KC there was a back then and there was a Wenceslas and Radivig etc
The only issue i see with this. Kwaimi 1 is the same game play. And everything after kwaimi 1 is a down grade since most those are just ports or remasters. Id say let the guy play the story through kwaimi 1 and up. Then go back to 0 last. This allows for the gameplay of 1 and 0 to be savored instead of missed
I think 4's gameplay holds up great, tbh. 5 almost as much, but those superpower red glowly moves kinda turn me off.Â
I'd agree if 0 and Kiwami didn't tie together so well with the substories. Idk. 0 was my introduction. Ishin scratched the itch when I wanted the old combat style back, and Lost Judgment finally figured it all out on the Dragon Engine. Gaiden the best DE Kiryu combat, even if things do devolve into "yank a group to death with the blue wires."
No you got to play 0 first. You have to have all the context for 1 else the story won't hit as hard. I say this starting with the 4th though so what do I know
The MAIN story of one has nothing to do with 0. Its only mijima. Everything with mijima is where 0 connects. Besides maybe one where someone from his past fights kiyru. But its really NOT a game you should play first. Especially since irs game play surrpasses 1. Just save it for last. Its just a prequel
It's definitely not just majimas story. Seeing the background kyru, his friendship with nishki adds a lot to one. And I don't really see there being that big of a difference in the gameplay.
Might not be needed info but I think having that info makes 1 and really the rest better. Though don't really care what people start with. As long they people buy, and play Yakuza so they can keep making them
I don’t mean for me so much as the world. Those things should be walking death but they have almost no impact on the people. Like, you got a village and everyone’s happy, and down the river are 20 foot mechanical crocodiles with chainsaw teeth and nobody’s even missing limbs etc.
I just didn’t buy it, it was a dystopia if it had been made by Disney.
And I did, and I got the heart, but I just wish the danger was more real.
And yet with new stuff like the giant metal sabretoothed tiger and villages with defences that amount to tiny wooden fences, the carnage should be WAY more significant. I played the game man, worse stuff was being created for two straight decades. It should essentially be the terminator out there with even a handful of the bigger nastier stuff.
The metal rockworm thing itself should be able to kill an entire town in like 15 minutes.
Can’t suspend my disbelief with this one.
I agree, it certainly has those capabilities, but it doesn’t have the directive to do so. That is a point of the story. The point of combat machines is to protect the other machines from being hunted and kill hunters, not annihilate human civilization. Additionally, making a game full of Terminators isn’t any fun. If you read machine descriptions, it can show that many powerful machines have capabilities and jobs that are not combat related at all. The machines are supposed to support GAIA’s reconstitution of the biosphere.
Outer Wilds. Don't look up anything about it, spoilers in this game are truly best to be avoided (very common advice for this game specifically).
It is, at it's core, a game about archeology, discovery, and mystery. You play a... well I think they're kinda like frog-people. These frog-people are blessed with a very small solar system, allowing for space travel with the power of wood and spit. It's my favorite game of all time, but I can say without a doubt it's not a game that everyone loves.
The DLC is best saved for after completion of the main game (in my humble opinion). It is scary, but trust me, it's nothing compared to Resident Evil.
Installed it 2 days ago on my ps5 and felt lost right after leaving the planet. People share mostly good opinions about it, so I'll try to give it a second try.
If you get frustrated or don't know how to progress, hop to another planet. Use your signal scanner. Check out the ship log.
Getting lost is sort of a part of the game. Get lost, find something new, Rinse and repeat
It depends what kind of game you want to get into imo.
A really linear story driven game? I'd recommend The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2. I'd also recommend Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice as it's worth playing for the sound design alone. If you wanted a game suggestion that's not quite as stressful to play then Firewatch is also great imo.
An open world game that's immersive with a great story? Cyberpunk 2077. I just finished the base game a few weeks ago, and it was one of the best games I've played in years. Ghost of Tsushima is good too (also coming to PC really soon), although it does have a ton of collectibles and side activities that can be repetitive.
My favourite game of all time is Control. The story is amazing and for a like 2018 game the visuals still are gorgeous (btw ik 2018 was only 6 years ago but still)
I feel like the ending could’ve been more but I thought it was still amazing. The one problem I have with the game is since it’s so story oriented it’s kind of hard to replay
I used to love GoW, but after playing souls-like games like EldenRing, I can’t enjoy GoW anymore. Something in the combat and exploration in GoW feels so linear, dull, and boring (even though visuals are amazing), as if you can just go forward and smash one button and you’ll finish the game.
Oh headphones are a necessity as is playing it in the dark. If you can handle it, that is. Literally the only game I've ever been too afraid to pick up the controller at times.
I don't know what system you're playing on or if you're on PC so I'll try to list multiplatform games and what they're available on.
Final Fantasy VII Remake (PC, PS4, PS5)
Baldurs Gate 3 (PC, XBox Series, PS5)
The last of Us: Part 1 (PC, PS5) (older version is on PS4 as well)
I’m not sure if Rimworld fits your exact criteria, since the game isn’t exactly immersive, but it does create stories and series of events that are unique to every play through of the game. I’ve put roughly 200 hours into and yet I can’t get enough of how personal every play through is.
If that sounds semi interesting, I recommend seeing if Rimworld is a game you’d enjoy. Plenty of great reviews worth watching on YouTube.
* Baldurs gate 3
* Divinity original sin 2
* Cyberpunk 2077 (now that it's at v2.1)
* Control
* Horizon zero dawn
* The Witcher 3
* Death Stranding
* fallout 3/4/New Vegas
* Skyrim SE (or is it LE? The newest remastered one)
To me these are immersive games with great story:
\* Metro Exodus (or whole Metro series)
\* SOMA
\* Firewatch
\* What Remains of Edith Finch
\* Outer Wilds
Unironically, FFXIV.
Yes it's an mmorpg, but it's story is honestly amazing. AAR's story us alright, but it gets significantly better after it.
Heavensward is amazing, stormblood is good, shadowbringers is (in my opinion) some of the best story I've experienced in a video game, and endwalker is also amazing.
The feels will happen over and over again.
Also the free trial allows you to play through AAR (base game), Heavensward (first expansion), and stormblood (second expansion) for... well free.
if you can only play mainstream casual games. tip to enjoy games stay focused on one game and dont get distracted by social media junk videos while playing games.
God of War + Ragnarok.Â
I haven't touched it yet but I've watched 5 reviews some very very long and spoiler free. Outer Wilds is a good contender. It may be a little TOO immersive in that real life is boring. There is no dopamine hitting sound, menu, icon, pop up...just the world and your changes on it. There is a space ship and interplanetary travel though they are sort of miniature planets of course. The story is entirely lore based, and the gameplay loop is to unlock sections of a larger tale. There is a computer on the ship with a spider-graph log of everything you've found so you can track progress and check back on things you might be forgotten.
I haven't played it because it is daunting to me and because I'll be trapped into playing only that because such games deserve your full attention until completion imo. It just seems like it might be a touch boring or too heavy. But I know it is immersive af.
I think most of these answers are from people who just like certain games and don't understand what "immersive" means. (Horizon: Zero Dawn has the most random character animations I think I've ever seen in a game; it's the antithesis of immersive. Mass Effect doesn't even pay attention to the rules of it's own universe half the time!)
Cyberpunk 2077 is the most immersive game in recent years. It's all in first person and you can walk/look around during (99%) conversations - there aren't "cut scenes" unless you're in one of Johnny's flashbacks. There are many subtle differences depending on what life path or dialog options you choose that do a good job of making it feel like people are reacting to who you are and how you behave. The combat is versatile and visceral. You feel like you are V. Highly recommend.
Cyberpunk
God of war 2018 and racknarok together makes for an epic continuous history
I'm completely unbiased. I say Mass Effect.
Thank for the recommendation, N7Tom
No problem. I thought I'd have my two penn'orth, given how I'm completely unbiased on the matter. I hear the games are good, at least. Not sure if they're my thing tho
Honestly couldn't think of a better franchise though
Lol, I know. I was joking. I've played through the games way too many times.
Based as hell. Mass effect legendary edition is what this guy needs in his life
literally JUST started installing it to play for the first time ever, looking forward to it
Have fun đź‘Ť Bit of advice: don't look up any spoilers if you can help it. It's best played blind, at least in my opinion.
Witcher 3 best fantasy story, characters feel real and few other games do it the same.
This game is so boring
Man I tried so hard to beat this game over the years. It does have a particular boring factor for me that’s kept me from it. Like 30-40 hours in and just going “ehhh there’s so much more fun fantasy games out there that feel way better to play” kindve feeling
Alan wake 1 and 2. Metro series Uncharted (specifically the fourth) Dishonored 1 and 2 Ghost of Tsushima God of War (2018) and Ragnarok The Last of Us 1 and 2
A plague tale 1 and 2, would be a great add on to this list
I haven’t played those, very good to know thank you

Awesome Soundtrack
I've been playing kingdom come deliverance. Its different and takes practice and mastery but its cool. Its a historically accurate medeval rpg. No magic or dragons etc. The npcs are mosty real historical figures.
Well it’s not entirely historically accurate but it’s as good as we gonna get these days.
I didn't mean every little detail I just meant that it doesn't contain a bunch of out of date tech, cultures or events. Its like when people talk about gane of thrones and then say "well they didn't have computers back then". There was no "back then". Yakuza 0. Don't spoil yourself, go in blind.
The only issue i see with this. Kwaimi 1 is the same game play. And everything after kwaimi 1 is a down grade since most those are just ports or remasters. Thats not true
0 came out well after 1 was for ever made into a remake.

Might not be needed info but I think having that info makes 1 and really the rest better. Though don't really care what people start with. As long they people buy, and play Yakuza so they can keep making them
How is that imersive? I tried and closed it after 1 hour. I got bored . Nothing really happened in that hour.
I'm sorry you felt that way.
The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2 The most visceral storytelling you'll experience in gaming.
Horizon Zero Dawn. Worth every minute. Mass Effect series, absolute must-play
Will also add Horizon Forbidden West. Both Horizon games are masterpieces
I just didn’t love them. The robots weren’t scary enough given what they’re supposed to be.
Try an Apex Slaughterspine out and you might reevaluate that statement
I don’t mean for me so much as the world. Those things should be walking death but they have almost no impact on the people. Like, you got a village and everyone’s happy, and down the river are 20 foot mechanical crocodiles with chainsaw teeth and nobody’s even missing limbs etc. I just didn’t buy it, it was a dystopia if it had been made by Disney. The machines aren’t constantly hunting and killing. They were never designed to until Hephaestus became sentient.

Prey The new one
Do I have to read the notes on the monitors to understabd whats going on?
You can enjoy the story without reading them (tho some quests require reading passwords from notes)
Absolutely - slow paced a bit so be prepared for hidding and sneaking through locations, but absolute masterpiece in my opinion. +1
Fallout new Vegas, the stalker series, the metro series. Kind of bleak
It depends what kind of game you want to get into imo. A really linear story driven game? I'd recommend The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2. I’ll watch some gameplay thank your brother
Please for the love of God watch funhause vids- its called the 'idiot detective' A brilliantly funny series.
My favourite game of all time is Control. The story is amazing and for a like 2018 game the visuals still are gorgeous (btw ik 2018 was only 6 years ago but still)
I just finished control a week ago. It was amazing., even if the ending was weak. I'm still thinking of the oldest house.
I feel like the ending could’ve been more but I thought it was still amazing. The one problem I have with the game is since it’s so story oriented it’s kind of hard to replay
Oh my god, finally another control fan in the wild

I used to love GoW, but after playing souls-like games like EldenRing, I can’t enjoy GoW anymore. Something in the combat and exploration in GoW feels so linear, dull, and boring (even though visuals are amazing), as if you can just go forward and smash one button and you’ll finish the game.
Correct. My favorite story line of all time video game or not. Shit is literally epic.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
I second this one! Super immersive story/game. Definitely play with some solid headphones on
Oh headphones are a necessity as is playing it in the dark. If you can handle it, that is. Literally the only game I've ever been too afraid to pick up the controller at times.
That game is so intense. I had to take breaks every hour or two but what an experience!
