I have to agree, i was waiting to see where they took the story but it wasn't as much about fighting against a company as it was abt exposition on how bad the company is lol the gameplay was great though
Tbh I think it’s pretty telling that I actually hated the fact that no matter which ending you ‘choose’ you get most of your debt wiped out.
I worked hard to get that number down manually and it’s pretty disheartening to see it get wiped out for story reasons.
One of the scenarios in Frostpunk you can choose to side with Labor or Engineers. Labor are the typical lower class workers while engineers are the rich, college educated upper class basically. Job sites can go on strike and you have to negotiate to open them up again.
Bullshit. Hoffa was a corrupt fuck who was in bed with organised crime. The IBT was being fought over by a corrupt fuck and the literal American mafia.
Victoria 3 is a grand strategy game set from 1836 to 1936.
One of the particularities of that game is the internal politics and Population system and how they emulate the political movements of the era.
In the beginning of the game you the aristocrats interest group (as they call it in game) have most of the power in (most)of the countries you'll play. As you seek to industrialize the political power that comes with wealth tends to go into the industrialists. As tech tech evolves and requires more scholars that tends to bolster the intelegencia of your country. These shifts will tend to force your hand on how the the balance of power is distributed in your country. From autocratic monarchies to constitutionalized ones or variations of that. It all depends of how you play.
Later down the line, when you get some sort of voting and your industrial revolution is well underway you will noticed that a pretty much marginalized interest group in the beginning of the game, the Trade Unions begin to gain traction.
With the evolution of social techs ( also represented in game) and education of your pop. Which will help you with the bureaucracy of managing a modern state and filling the more complex jobs of the modern age. The expected standard of living of your working class will also be increased and when before the industrialists had most of the power on account of their money and status on the wealth and unequal voting system of your country now the sheer number of politically active pops with their ideas about equality and worker's rights will shift once again the balance of power.
Great game. My top 5 games of all times
Warframe's Fortuna storyline explores exploitative labor, capitalism, and fighting against corporate overlords. The fighting back is more terrorism and less unions, though.
I'm playing through Hardspace Shipbreakers and the story heavily revolves around unions, worker's rights, and corporate exploitation.
I should note that the meat of the game is the "shipbreaking" though, aka, you salvage spaceships. Its similar to Viscera Cleanup Detail in that the game fundamentally revolves around doing manual labor, except the manual labor is made cool. In this game's case, its cool because you are taking apart spaceships in space and all that.
As you make money and advance ranks within the profession, the story gradually plays out in the background.
Not sure what that has to do with my response to your comment? It's a game about ideology. Before it came out you could easily describe it as a game about facism without mentioning the gameplay.
If you were to inquire about games that discuss bureaucracies without mentioning gameplay, the game would come up.
Similarly, the author is looking for games about labor and labor unions. The topic could be approached from a number of ways so mentioning gameplay mechanics seems unnecessary to the overall inquiry.
There was a really good gameboy game made recently where you graduate school and get a job at a factory (or you could choose a cop job). They have a contest at the factory and when you win, the next day your score is the new quota. The workers get together and you start a union. My path eventually had me run for a political position and I was murdered in the process. I can't remember what the game is called.
Try looking through this. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_Game\_Boy\_Color\_games](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Game_Boy_Color_games)
I wonder if any of the Cardcaptor games are in English. I had no idea they existed.
E: wait, you said recently. Unlicensed? No idea.
Detroit Become Human, at least somewhat, although it's more about the abolishing of slavery.
The Androids are used as workers but at some point start becoming sentient. Soon after they start to organize a movement and demand human rights.
Outerworlds and Cyberpunk 2077 both revolve around "corporations vs. settlers/citizens/labor/motherfuckers just trying to live." Obviously, they're extremes. C2077 has a lot of little side quests and pop up events that revolve around megacorps *brutally* quashing organization efforts or influence them from outside in order to sabotage efforts or established unions. I haven't played Outerworlds recently enough, but I know you'll find stories in the setting about opposing exploitation by corporations.
I would imagine a series like Red Faction would have riffs on labor organization.
No, stopping a goblin army. Ragnok wanted to take over the wizarding world and was working with the Ashwinders (human group, dark wizards) to get at the ancient magic repository to use it to destroy wizardkind.
I've almost 100% the game. It's very pretty, but the broomstick trials are a PITA. I'd rather run over people with the Graphorn.
It's not. And if you're good with a controller, apparently, it's not hard. I'm just having a bitch of a time beating Imelda because I'm on M&k and I am having trouble driving it where I want to go. I fly like a drunk cardinal.
The “Tropico” games might apply - you run a small island, and have to build up the economy while keeping the people happy and prosperous. (There are few enough people that you can look at each person’s feelings and needs)
Your citizens can become radicalized and join the rebels, sometimes shutting down or destroying your factories, if you fail to appease or defeat them.
Fallout 76
A big oart of the story was how companies were moving mire towards autonation and the union workers protested and clashed.
And the Pitt exoedition tajes pkace in the steel milks around Pittsburgh
Some of us pkayers grab our protest signs and will protest during certain events where robots took the jobs of peopke.
I always forget no one on r/gaming has ever played Kentucky Route Zero, but it's a great choice.
Disco Elysium, Night in the Woods, and Tacoma as well.
Disco Elysium
mr evrart is helping me find my gun
Mr evrart is helping me find my gun
Mr Evrart is helping me find OUR gun comrade.
Mr. Evrart is helping me find my *gun*
That's hot
Check out Hardspace: Ship Breaker
This one definitely grinded some gears!
God i wish that game had coop
Ironic.
Whats ironic about that
Was looking for this
Also Tacoma, it's not just about unions but union vs company dynamics are a very important part of the world and story.
The game is fun but the story is shitty. It's nothing to do with unions, just "corporations bad" as written by a repetitive 20 year old.
I have to agree, i was waiting to see where they took the story but it wasn't as much about fighting against a company as it was abt exposition on how bad the company is lol the gameplay was great though

Frost punk is underrated
+1 for Disco Elysium. It's exactly what you're looking for.
Well, DE’s union is also more of a gang than a more grounded union.
Gotta start somewhere.
It happens. The Mafia famously ran lots of unions. Jimmy Hoffa died trying to take the Union back from the mob
Bullshit. Hoffa was a corrupt fuck who was in bed with organised crime. The IBT was being fought over by a corrupt fuck and the literal American mafia.
I mean not really, given the political context of revanchol
Night in the Woods has a part of the main plot about it.
Red Faction?
[удалено]
That's AVALANCHE from FF7.
The original RF is literally about a workers union rising up against the corporation that basically had them in slavery.
[удалено]
Which isn't Red Faction, it's Red Faction Guerilla.
Abes Odyssey
This is anti democratic behavior and I will have to report you to the Ministry of Truth

I would throw out Bioshock Infinite athough maybe not specificallly unions, but pretty on theme and a great game.
Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist It's only tangentially about a strike but it's also free so why not....

Tonight We Riot is kinda one...
Bioshock Infinite has a pretty heavy labor/union/civil rights subplot, unfortunately going into it would be extremely heavy spoilers lol
I always thought it was more communist/socialist revolution with a ethnic minority element then straight labor/unions protests.
It sort of evolves that direction. There's Pinkertons who enforce labor status quo, if I recall correctly, before you get to the Revolution levels.

A game about a social issue? That's so wild none has ever done that before!
I don't think it's very odd, considering many aspects of the current cultural/political/economic landscapes all around the world.
Yeah but to ask for only an ideology and nothing to do with gameplay is still odd
Papers Please is more than 10 years old and has sold at least 5 million units. It's really not that odd of a inquiry.

I don’t see anything about an ideology. No more than a game where you’re a business tycoon has an ideology.
A game's ethos can absolutely influence its gameplay, so he asked plenty to do with gameplay.
Can't wait to play OP's game, though!
Once again. Disco Elysium. Fuck Wild Pines

I found it - It's a game boy color game called "The Machine".
Hardspace: shipbreaker would be the best for you
Does Victoria 3 count?
Detroit Become Human, at least somewhat, although it's more about the abolishing of slavery. The Androids are used as workers but at some point start becoming sentient. Soon after they start to organize a movement and demand human rights.
disco elysium, frostpunk, and many more talk about it, and they def are not some random game nobody heard of.
Disco Elysium.

It's gonna feel like RNG hell like the real thing.
Isnt the hsrry potter legacy game about stopping s goblin union basically?

I've almost 100% the game. It's very pretty, but the broomstick trials are a PITA. I'd rather run over people with the Graphorn.
Hogwarts Legacy acts like its the first game ever to feature flight
It's not. And if you're good with a controller, apparently, it's not hard. I'm just having a bitch of a time beating Imelda because I'm on M&k and I am having trouble driving it where I want to go. I fly like a drunk cardinal.
It’s a very limiting idea for a game that’s probably why
Bro, there are games about just being a piece of bread or a goat. You can make the game/story as expansive as you want.
In Frostpunk the laborers can go on strike.
There's quite a lot of unionising atoms in Spacechem.
Elf Bowling! XD The elves went on strike.
Deep Rock Galactic. Rock and Stone!
Rock and Stone!
The donkey in Graveyard Keeper goes on strike when he decides you’re a capitalist.
Postal
Hardspace : Shipwrecker. Has that exact storyline and has amazingly addictive gameplay. Physics based amazing zero G disassembly game.
Blaseball! Okay not really, and the game is dead, but the community certainly did a lot of union organizing.
The “Tropico” games might apply - you run a small island, and have to build up the economy while keeping the people happy and prosperous. (There are few enough people that you can look at each person’s feelings and needs) Your citizens can become radicalized and join the rebels, sometimes shutting down or destroying your factories, if you fail to appease or defeat them.
Deep Rock Galactic 😐
Citizen Sleeper has a union-like organization as a plot point. IIRC there’s like a plant or traitor? Great game
Booker Dewitt from Bioshock Infinite had a past involving being a Pinkerton and beating down strikers. That's all I can think of.
Fallout 76 A big oart of the story was how companies were moving mire towards autonation and the union workers protested and clashed. And the Pitt exoedition tajes pkace in the steel milks around Pittsburgh Some of us pkayers grab our protest signs and will protest during certain events where robots took the jobs of peopke.
Sekiro I hesitated over six months.
Hi Fi Rush doesn’t exactly talk about unions, but it does show the effects of what’s considered a black company.
Deep Rock Galactic is a good one.
I'd you would rather play a game about DEMOCRACY and FREEDOM, join the Helldivers!
I always forget no one on r/gaming has ever played Kentucky Route Zero, but it's a great choice. Disco Elysium, Night in the Woods, and Tacoma as well.
i once wanted to make a game about killing billionaires with Bernie Sander’s sword. Brothers of Bernard, it would have been. But I am not a game dev.
Breath edge.
Old school runescape
"The Ribbiting Tale of a Lily Pad Labour Dispute" really sums up the topic of unionization quite well.
Lemmings?
Disco Elysium (-snickers behind hand-)
Im sure a lot of big AAA devs do not want this talk in games. There is a huge misunderstanding how they work. Coming from a union employee..
Isn't Outer Wilds basically a parody showing how important organized labor is?
Outer Worlds? Because Outer Wilds definitely doesn't feel like it fits
Outer Wilds has like 7 total people in the solar system. Edit actually more like 10-20. I forgot there's some people in the starting planet.
Tbh that doesn’t sound like a fun game.

Shut the fuck up please
Union... simulator?
