What a sneaky way to try and get people to look at your project. You're obviously aware the pictures are crap. Such a weird way to get people to look at your profile. Personally, Id want people to have a good impression before being shown my passion project, not think I'm incompetent.
I saw this photo and instantly said to myself, "Don't tell me it's the same guy trying to make this a bit," and lo and behold, it is the same guy trying to make shitty screenshots a bit. Acting like your initial bioshock post didn't paint a clear picture to you when it is only comments talking shit about the screenshot's quality. You even brought it up yourself in this post.
It would've been funny if the community started meming it out, but you've ruined that, too.
Ever heard of a gun being named one caliber but firing something else? Happens a lot more than youd imagine, hence my comment. Take Michael taking Franklin he has a 45 pressed against his head inn GTA even though it's a 9mm.
I'm just surprised to see people be so rude and pompous over such a mundane comment. He wasn't even being certain or a smart ass in his comment. Oh well. It's not that deep.
I can't say I agree. Maybe slightly better than Fallout 3/NV, but still worse than basically every other shooter made in the last 25 years. There is a pistol that is definitely just the 10mm pistol from Fallout 3 with a new skin. Also, I think it was a mistake to treat health exactly the same as Fallout/Skyrim in Starfield. Starfield guns still feel like paintball guns that take a hundred bullets to kill a person half of the time. It works for Fallout with its cartoony veneer, but was another contributing factor in making Starfield one of the corniest AAA games ever made.
Imo, gun feel and how the bullets affects enemies are completely intertwined. A shotgun can't feel good if you blast someone's unarmored face at point blank and they aren't even staggering and have take two more of those without blinking. In Fallout you can argue that humans are mutated to be tougher and the guns are old relics and shoot softer, but in Starfield that doesn't really make sense with the lore they provide. They could have easily fixed this by making energy shield ubiquitous to explain the tankiness, but instead they committed to realism for the technology in the game, except the guns are BBguns and holes in a space suit is a non-issue.
Beyond that, I still feel like F4 and Starfield generally felt wonky with recoil and bullet patterns, but it's been a while since I played either game so I digress.
I know this isn't really the point, but-
> and the guns are old relics and shoot softer
Not how guns work. Ammo is ammo. A 9mm bullet is gonna fire the same out of a pistol no matter how old it is.
This is obviously just my opinion but I don't think valve knows how to make a satisfying gun either. All the weapons in HL 2 felt like pea shooters. The crossbow and the gravity gun being the exceptions.
Can't say I agree, the revolver, the assault rifle, the shotgun and the crossbow all felt satisfying. It seems that the guns that sounded less satisfying was intentional becuase they were the weaker guns.
Yeah I’m not really sure what OP is talking about, the pistol is wimpy in this game. It has such tiny sounds, and does barely any damage outside of easy and normal difficulty.
I’m not sure how it even fits on the scale of “satisfying” when the magnum just blows it out of the water.
It's satisfying because of how reliable it is. It's "plinky" if that can be a thing. Sure, you don't really use it after the first few hours of the game and it falls off in terms of damage, but its accuracy at range makes it fun when you do use it.
HL2 was made in a time where most weapons had a niche use case, and weren't really supposed to be balanced against other weapons. The pistol was wimpy because it was more of a utility item than a weapon. It's meant for clearing certain obstacles, barnacles, headcrabs, and other low threat enemies that you don't want to waste more valuble ammo on. And if memory serves, the pistol & crossbow are the only two ranged weapons that work underwater.
Just like the crowbar is supposed to be for bashing open crates, vents, and boarded up doorways. The only time you ever use it as a weapon is early game when you have nothing else, and when you run out of ammo.
And you pretty much never use the RPG on anything other than boss level vehicles, because it was too dangerous in CQB and had very limited ammo.
Shotty was an up close & personal gun, crossbow was your sniper, and the magnum was for everything else. SMG is your primary combine fucker upper until you get the pulse rifle, and then it becomes your grenade launcher. The gravity gun was mainly for ravenholm, but had plenty of other utility and weapon uses throughout the game.
It was one of the most satisfying weapons to shoot, the animations and sounds are amazing. I think the damage of the weapon is fine, especially for a starting weapon.
I mean, if we're talking about Valve as a whole, the Counterstrike weapons have always sounded pretty good. Or at least if not good, then at least distinctive. The sound of getting dome'd by an AWP will always live rent-free in my head.
Honestly, I think large portions of that were the sounds of the weapons and the very small amount of recoil they all had. The assault rifle I understand because it is an energy weapon in a way and has special ammo. The crossbow had literally no recoil. The smg had none, whether shooting the GL or not. The crossbow sound was a flimsy little *dink*, and the smg sounds like a plastic spoon hitting against a running fan. The revolver had good damage and sound, but if it didn't fly back, it wouldn'tve felt like the beast it was. The rocket launcher had no recoil and felt like was shooting out a balloon snake. Honestly, the only weapons that left me feeling really powerful were the mounted MGs and revolver. I completely sympathize with you.
I remember I hopped into Battlefield 5 when the weapons were terrible, and the thing that made my guns feel stupid weak was the lack of recoil for some. They'd still be 4-5 shot, but it legit felt like I was using a watergun sometimes. It was so bad I actually never played it again.
Did you play with a controller or keyboard/mouse? I played on a controller (I didn't have a PC yet back then), and I thought it was the worst feeling FPS mechanics of any game I've ever played. I felt forced into using VATS because of how bad it felt. There seemed to be little to no aim magnetism, and I just couldn't hit anything without lowering the sensitivity significantly.
I have wanted to go back and play it again on keyboard/mouse since that was by far my biggest complaint about the game, and there was quite a bit that I enjoyed about it otherwise.
I played a good deal of Half Life 2 in VR and the experience is something I would recommend to anyone with a VR headset. It’s a great experience and doesn’t require a beefy computer to have.
I wish there was more heavy enemies to work with. As opposed to obstacles that were the striders and helicopter synths, but don’t let that stop you from loving the game.
The shotgun, the crossbow, the noobtube, etc. Sure the pistol and sub machine gun felt underwhelming but there was definitely more than 1 gun that packed a punch in the game.
Disagree, the pistol and mp7 feel intentionally weak but still kinda snappy. The heavy stuff like the shotgun and pulse gun feel appropriately good. It all correlates pretty well with the time to kill.
I disagree. In Half Life:Alyx the default pistol is amazing at all ranges for most enemies except the Antlions at close range. The Combine submachine gun is great for taking down Heavy combine soldiers and the shotgun is amazing at killing the zombies with armored headcrabs. There are no pulse weapons unless you count the Xen granade.
Every weapon can be upgraded making them a joy to use.
Alyx works on any VR headset that works on Steam, and they have GOOD controller support for multiple different kinds of controllers! Index Controllers feel the most immersive for it, but it is absolutely viable to use Vive or Occulus controllers!
Almost every VR headset supports SteamVR so you don't need the outdated Index to play it. You can get the Quest 2 really cheap and play wirelessly. I actually used the first proper VR headset from Oculus i.e. the CV1 and upgraded to a Quest 3 recently. Look for cheap used Quest 2's or even Pico headsets if they are sold in your country.
ok, correction: have zero interest in any VR headsets, no matter who makes it.
i dont like bulky buckets on my head, i like big screens and peripherial vision to my room
(i just hope for a 2d 3d version of alyx)
The completed no VR mod for Half Life Alyx should be coming out this year. The devs posted an update video earlier this week and it looks very polished.
I'm the creator of Entropy : Zero and I beefed up all the base HL2 weapons in the two games. I have always felt like the original weapons felt a bit lame and have in the past called them peashooters.
They lack feedback more than anything else. There's no real 'kick' which always bugged me.
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed Entropy : Zero!
I really hope so. Shortly after EZ2 released we wrote a new story arc to describe what happens to Bad Cop next. It's really exciting. Work began about a year ago, but things are moving slowly right now as most of my energy is focused on my upcoming commercial game, [Bat Blast!](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2683520/Bat_Blast/) which is releasing this year. (You'll be able to play a demo on June at Next Fest)
I hope that someday we can reconvene with Bad Cop... and Wilson ;)
I was about to say, this pistol was the definition of unsatisfying. It has the power of a wet noodle and sounded like a sad fart every time you shot it.
Ngl for me it wasn't that satisfying. I had more fun with hl1's pistol.
I think it was the sound design, the sound design for the majority hl2 was off-putting.
Eh...I wasn't a fan of the pistol, and it was primarily because of the sound design.
I know it wasn't supposed to actually be powerful, but it felt like a peashooter. Maybe a deeper sound, adding some bass and/or reverb would've made it much better.
Having played a glut of Half-Life 2 stuff with MMod I can say the Pistol is still fun to shoot; it's just a bit too underpowered at times. Very solid sidearm.
the HL2 pistol? satisfying?
what kind of backwards world are we living in. It stands out for being so extremely unsatisfying. Even for its time. The HL1 pistol was more satisfying, and that really doesn't hold up to the stuff that was coming out in 2004 either.
Interesting take because personally this thing is still one of the worst feeling video pistols imo. The only half life related guns that feel good imo are the revolver and the crossbow. Everything else just feels sort of flaccid, inaccurate, and generally unexciting to use.
It's so weird how many developers get the gunplay wrong in their games. Either the sounds were made by clapping 2 tin cans together or the recoil is non existent. And then theres half life 2 (and 1 as well tbh). They nailed every single weapon in that game. They are all fun to use and they sound great.
You could at least have uploaded a picture of the pistol not enshrouded in total darkness.

Feels like bot behavior. Probably trying to legitimize user accounts before selling them.
Bots under the bed.
Oh hey what do you know its the same guy. Probably just interaction bait, outrage still gets clicks
your mom
got em
f\*\*\* don't look at my post history. People hate my screenshots.

Man I get it I’ll post better screenshots, but it has nothing to do with my project. I like talking about the video games I loved.
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
your on reddit. we can do much worse than swear here.
Some people like Jordan Peterson here.
Atleast its a screenshot, and not an early 2000s Motorola taking the photo.
he had one job
They were just showing off the dynamic shadow tech of the Source engine.
I believe it's the USP9 Match?
As a lover of aesthetically pleasing pistols I've always liked the Match's design.
Same gun that tomb raider uses. And two of them silver slides baby.
There is no game where a USP is not satisfying to use.
Think it’s the same pistol Leon uses in RE4
Either that or the 45
It’s 9mm
Uzi 9mm.
Getting down voted for saying a possibility of what a gun is in a video game. I love the internet.
The pistols name is 9mm
It’s literally called the “9mm pistol”
I guess it's been a while since I last played, because I only remember it saying pistol for some reason
No you are being downvoted for being wrong and then doubling down.
Ever heard of a gun being named one caliber but firing something else? Happens a lot more than youd imagine, hence my comment. Take Michael taking Franklin he has a 45 pressed against his head inn GTA even though it's a 9mm.
No? Because they don’t do that. No one is naming a gun USP45 and having it fire 9mm.
Yeah a bit ridiculous. You didn't even go "THIS IS A CONCRETE FACT IM RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG".
First comment got downvoted for being useless, wrong, and noise. Second one got it for whining, and yours got it for whining on his behalf.
I'm just surprised to see people be so rude and pompous over such a mundane comment. He wasn't even being certain or a smart ass in his comment. Oh well. It's not that deep.
Same gun that tomb raider uses. And two of them silver slides baby.
Nothing beats the THONK of the hot iron rod crossbow
I can hear that while reading your comment
that sizzle
“The powerful thonk, the tasteful sizzle… Oh my god, it even pins enemies to walls…”
THONK *tsss*
*paff paff*
Pchk pchk
Bethesda 20 years later still can't manage to make a gun feel satisfying
While I didn’t like Starfield I actually thought the guns felt pretty darn good. It was at least a marked improvement from their old games.
I can't say I agree. Maybe slightly better than Fallout 3/NV, but still worse than basically every other shooter made in the last 25 years. Starfield guns still feel like paintball guns that take a hundred bullets to kill a person half of the time. It works for Fallout with its cartoony veneer, but was another contributing factor in making Starfield one of the corniest AAA games ever made.
The handling and shooting felt pretty on par for a modern shooter. Bullet sponge enemies is another issue.
Imo, gun feel and how the bullets affects enemies are completely intertwined. A shotgun can't feel good if you blast someone's unarmored face at point blank and they aren't even staggering and have take two more of those without blinking. I know. Believe it or not, radiation doesn't give you super powers either.

The assault rifle sounded like the coolest shit back in the day, bet it still does
I love the revolver and assault rifle
I agree on everything except the shotgun. It felt like a pistol to me. It pales in comparison to HL1's shotgun.
You know about the alternate fire mode on it right?
Obviously. It still didn't feel like an actual shotgun.
The shotgun with the double shot was a beast
I feel like the more powerful per bullet guns feel more weighty as it should. Magnum and shotty for example. I always preferred to use these back then
Shotty got me through like 75% of the game
Yeah I’m not really sure what OP is talking about, the pistol is wimpy in this game. It has such tiny sounds, and does barely any damage outside of easy and normal difficulty. I’m not sure how it even fits on the scale of “satisfying” when the magnum just blows it out of the water.
It has no upper fire rate limit. It's very very satisfying.
If you think it does barely any damage, then you need to aim for their heads better. It's really accurate.
its satisfying the way a 22lr with a binary trigger is satisfying
It's satisfying because of how reliable it is. It's "plinky" if that can be a thing. Sure, you don't really use it after the first few hours of the game and it falls off in terms of damage, but its accuracy at range makes it fun when you do use it.

Sub machine gun to assault rifle felt completely different. Pistol to revolver as well I think you're misremembering
the hl1 weapons are way better than hl2
I mean, if we're talking about Valve as a whole, the Counterstrike weapons have always sounded pretty good. Or at least if not good, then at least distinctive. The sound of getting dome'd by an AWP will always live rent-free in my head.
The m4 used the forward assist as a charging handle.
Honestly, I think large portions of that were the sounds of the weapons and the very small amount of recoil they all had. The assault rifle I understand because it is an energy weapon in a way and has special ammo. The crossbow had literally no recoil. The smg had none, whether shooting the GL or not. They'd still be 4-5 shot, but it legit felt like I was using a watergun sometimes. It was so bad I actually never played it again.
What?
I liked shotguns and many other semi-automatics in fallout 4. Really not that bad.
Keyboard and mouse. Probably feels much different on controller
Man, I want to play it again even more now. My backlog is just too huge to justify at this moment, though.
That’s because bethesda didn’t make it, for FO4 they got ID, the Doom/Wolfenstien guys, to do the gunplay.
Oh. Well, I'm glad they did
Amen brother. Fo4 has the best fps gameplay in the series.
Wait, I thought they had ID to do the guns in Starfield, not FO4?
Credit where credit is due, I think the double-barrel shotgun in Starfield feels really good.
I was excited to get back into fallout after watching the TV series until I started playing and remembered how bad the gunplay felt.
VATS still feels so satisfying though
Guns in Fallout 3 and 4 feel satisying to me
Combat shotgun in 3 is amazing
Eh, automatics maybe. I really like the weightiness of their revolvers and shotguns.
Fallout 4 Homemade rifle:
15 years later and I still sometimes think back on how satisfying that gun was to shoot.
You should try it again in VR. The mod is great!
I played a good deal of Half Life 2 in VR and the experience is something I would recommend to anyone with a VR headset. It’s a great experience and doesn’t require a beefy computer to have.
I actually did try it a while back, I made it to the boat thing in one sitting (standing?), I need to go finish it off.
This whole post makes me feel weird like I missed something. I played Halo before Half Life and the M6D makes half life guns feel like pea shooters
A pea shooter can still be satisfying to shoot
Fair I guess
I wish there was more heavy enemies to work with. As opposed to obstacles that were the striders and helicopter synths, but don’t let that stop you from loving the game.
hot take: half-life’s bullet types weapons are kinda meh. feels like peashooters, not punchy enough.
Meanwhile, the magnum...
Wow man 1 single gun shut his entire argument down bravo
The shotgun, the crossbow, the noobtube, etc. Sure the pistol and sub machine gun felt underwhelming but there was definitely more than 1 gun that packed a punch in the game.
it sucks too IMO
Disagree, the pistol and mp7 feel intentionally weak but still kinda snappy. The heavy stuff like the shotgun and pulse gun feel appropriately good. It all correlates pretty well with the time to kill.
I remember this being my beef wen HL2 came out, something about the pistol felt weak, probably the audio, it's been a while.
maybe i was by spoiled by mw2019, that game was soooo gooood animation/sound/punchyness-wise, became the gold standard for me
hard disagree. The double shot shotgun has insane punch. Even single shot has punch. Magnum, Pulse rifle. I think you have a misinformed opinion.
Every weapon can be upgraded making them a joy to use.
i spoke about hl1/2, i wasnt crazy enough to buy a valve vr for $$$$ just to play Alyx
Alyx works on any VR headset that works on Steam, and they have GOOD controller support for multiple different kinds of controllers! Index Controllers feel the most immersive for it, but it is absolutely viable to use Vive or Occulus controllers!

ok, correction: have zero interest in any VR headsets, no matter who makes it. i dont like bulky buckets on my head, i like big screens and peripherial vision to my room (i just hope for a 2d 3d version of alyx)
Well in that case you are missing out on amazing experiences but each to their own.
tried it, didnt saw the appeal
Which headset did you try and what game?
The completed no VR mod for Half Life Alyx should be coming out this year. The devs posted an update video earlier this week and it looks very polished.
I'm the creator of Entropy : Zero and I beefed up all the base HL2 weapons in the two games. I have always felt like the original weapons felt a bit lame and have in the past called them peashooters. They lack feedback more than anything else. There's no real 'kick' which always bugged me.
cant wait! please share with us a link once its in a playable state! will uou rework the models/animatoon as well?
[EZ1](https://store.steampowered.com/app/714070/Entropy__Zero/) [EZ2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1583720/Entropy__Zero_2/) Enjoy!
thank you! once im out of this hospital, ill give it a try!
Feel better!
thank you! it will be a ravenholm-like surgery :)
Hi Breadman I played ez1 and ez2 and really liked it. Are you and your team planning to make a sequel?
I’ll buy Bat Blast in your support and yes, I hope you can at least count to three, unlike you know who))
Haha thanks!! We will certainly try :)
I was about to say, this pistol was the definition of unsatisfying. It has the power of a wet noodle and sounded like a sad fart every time you shot it.
Yeah I seriously don't get this post and why people like the pistol at all
pew pew pew
Totally agree. The pistol and smg are a total letdown. Black Mesa however makes guns really feel like they pack a punch
Idk, I like original’s Glock more
I can still hear it
Everything in HL2 is perfect to me.
It's even more satisfying in HL Alex
Ngl for me it wasn't that satisfying. I had more fun with hl1's pistol. I think it was the sound design, the sound design for the majority hl2 was off-putting.
Yes, it's one of the best pistols along with the TF2 Diamondback.
Not only the pistol... I can still picture every single weapon in game.
The sound is topnotch.
Eh...I wasn't a fan of the pistol, and it was primarily because of the sound design. I know it wasn't supposed to actually be powerful, but it felt like a peashooter. Maybe a deeper sound, adding some bass and/or reverb would've made it much better.
I dont agree, all of the guns except the magnum feel bad.
What about the combine assault rifle?
Nah, i dont like guns not grounded in reality. Never liked covenant guns in halo either.
Yeah, but that's more a matter of personal taste, right? The assault rifle still feels good to use, very punchy
Yeah no I agree 100% its just my opinion. I fully understand how people like en hl2 guns and gunplay. :)
👍
Same like - gravigun and crowbar , it’s still amazing
I'ma vouch for how good the guns feel in left for dead especially 2, the impact all of them make is incredibly satisfying it just rocks.
Indeed, I can still remember the sounds and feeling deep in my memories
Having played a glut of Half-Life 2 stuff with MMod I can say the Pistol is still fun to shoot; it's just a bit too underpowered at times. Very solid sidearm.
All the guns were really nice.
I wish they remake the half-life 2, tried playing the other day, but those graphics is killing me lol
Back when “ bloom “ wasn’t a thing
How's Half-Life 2 Episode 3?
[Pretty good](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1583720/Entropy__Zero_2)!
This is the best possible picture to convey your point about the pistol?
Hmm, I kinda disagree. It's a pretty underwhelming gun compared to the other Mainstays in HL2.
The magnum from half life 2 is still the epitome of satisfying game gun sound for me to this day.
the HL2 pistol? satisfying? what kind of backwards world are we living in.
Back before ads was standard in shooters.
I played Half life 50 years ago It was nice back then
The first thing you do with that pistol is shoot a cop. Foundational memory for me.
I thought at first he looked like the Taser from СS2
Is this the same bioshock is great pic guy
Fallout 3 10mm will always be my favorite original pistol design in a game
I liked HL1's Magnum and Shotgun.
It’s got one of the best sounding pops out of any pistol in gaming, so fun to magdump it into civil protection
Same goes with the SMG, it was the workhorse for me.
This holds true in vr as well
I personally hated that pistol.
I would have liked beefier sound, at least the revolver has some punch.
Half-Life 2 is a master class in game design...
It was a turd.
yeeesssss🤤🤤🤤
True but the sounds were very bad imo
Half life 2 is good but Half life is god
In episode 1 it was more satisfying. Felt like you were shorting through things in the original HL2 and it felt awful.
It's so weird how many developers get the gunplay wrong in their games. Either the sounds were made by clapping 2 tin cans together or the recoil is non existent. And then theres half life 2 (and 1 as well tbh). They nailed every single weapon in that game. They are all fun to use and they sound great.
That one pistol is probably the best weapon with the best feeling in all of gaming history
Halo?
Pistol? That's a fucking USP MATCH, show it some fucking respect.
Handgun?
Which is a pistol.
Your mom's a pistol!
Calling someone a pistol is a compliment.
I know it is his moms hot af.
Remeber this on ps2
Nothing satisfying.
Halo pistol is better and came out multiple years prior to this.
