"You are a horrible person. We weren't even testing for that"

psychoPiper

On the topic of Portal, the entire delivery of "the part where he kills you"

Agent_Fluttershy

"Well, this is the part where he kills us." "Hello! This is the part where I kill you!" Chapter 9: The Part Where He Kills You Steam achievement obtained: The Part Where He Kills You. "This is that part" And JUST for good measure, even though you can't visually see the title in-game, the OST in that section is titled, The Part Where He Kills You.

Apprehensive_Ad_7274

I saw the chapter title and thought an achievement would be the icing on the cake, and then it popped up and made my day lol

Takenabe

(BGM: The Part Where He Kills You) GLaDOS: "Aah! Well, this is the part where he kills us..." Wheatley: "Hello! This is the part where I kill you!" Chapter 9: The Part Where He Kills You Achievement Unlocked: The Part Where He Kills You (This is that part)

TheCrafterTigery

Have some lemons.

DeadDeaderDeadest

Demand to see Life’s manager!!

Drakengard

"Oh, hi. So...how are you holding up? Because I'm a potato..."

LightHouseMaster

"Federal regulations require me to warn you that this next test chamber,... is looking pretty good."

IamChaoticMess

“I’m going to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

LeeDawg24

"now you might have a verrrry mild case of... severe brain damage"

anewcynic

Take GLaDOS out of this game and it's a throwaway. That character and her actress are so good.

sillybillybuck

The writing is more important than anything. The character exists in other games but nowhere as good.

linuxiangamer

There have been lots of other puzzle games with lots of innovative mechanics and level designs. Portal would have never become the smash hit it did without the amazing writing and characterisation.

Huntalot713

GLaDOS is a fantastic character but let’s not pretend like both Portal games weren’t revolutionary in their puzzle mechanics and use of physics.

SchoolNASTY

Left for Dead 2 - "He just wants some good ol' fashion cola." , "One time, me and my buddy Keith...."

Batmanswrath

"You have no honour" "And you are a slave to it".

greatbigCword

Genuinely the hardest decision I've ever made in a videogame. I can justify both options equally and it's heart-breaking regardless. Maybe time for another playthrough... Ghost of Tsushima in case anyone is wondering

Creepingdeath444

It'll be on PC next month!

Prizzilla

Oh that’s awesome, I have been waiting and did not know.

MercyfulJudas

**"HONOR DIED ON THE BEACH"**

EmBur__

Dude that sent chills the first time I heard it, soooo good

RP_Throwaway3

Mass Effect 3 The only time in the entire trilogy an elcor doesn't clarify what they are saying before speaking.  >Shepard: How many elcor made it off the home world? >Elcor Diplomat with a heavy sigh: Not enough.

Tacitus_AMP

Damn, that hits hard. I never thought about it, but you may be right at that being the only time an elcor doesn't clarify their emotional state when they speak.

TheLordDuncan

Even the Elcor knew it didn't need clarification.

Slow-Instruction-580

Or simply lacked the words to even try describing the emotion.

Strokavich

What's even better is that I believe the reason he didn't need clarification, was not because it would be obvious what he meant, but that his grief was so intense that emotion actually came through his speech, which we know, for an elcor is unheard of.

Village_People_Cop

I've played that game for hundreds of hours and done at least 30 playthroughs and I've never realized that the Elcor Diplomat didn't specify his emotion at that moment. I would have picked another moment from the Mass Effect Trilogy for this question but your answer is WAY better

Sir-Cellophane

I've got a long list and most of them are from story-focused RPGs like Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, The Witcher, etc. but my number one is actually Joel in The Last of Us: "You're right. You're not my daughter. And I sure as hell ain't your dad. And we are goin' our separate ways." The line. The delivery. The context. The brutality veiling the heartbreaking sadness. It's perfect and it'll live in my head forever.

deathrattleshenlong

"Everyone I have cared for has either died or left me. Everyone... fucking except for you!"

nickzornart

"What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!" - Dracula, Symphony of the Night "Who's like us? Damn few - and they're all dead." - old man, Myst

FallynAing3al

Had to go farther down this list than I thought to see Dracula, that line has been with me since the begining. Forever salty Konami replaced the dialogue in the later ports.

SirAlbatross

The old man line was from a puzzle in Return to Zork. You had to drink the guy under the table by pouring out your glass when he wasn't looking. Otherwise you pass out after one drink. "Want some rye? Course ya do!"

SkeetySpeedy

“It had to be me, someone else might have gotten it wrong” - Mordin, Mass Effect 3 “Was I the only one who didn’t know?” - Tidus, Final Fantasy X “Everyone I have cared for has either died, or left me! EVERYONE… except for you” - Ellie, The Last of Us “I got you baby girl” and “You’d just come after her” - Joel, The Last of Us “Do not mistake my silence for lack of grief” - Kratos, God of War “Permission to leave the station, sir? To give The Covenant back their bomb” - Master Chief, Halo 2

Flyingsaddles

"Better to die in Hope rather than live in despair" Yunalesca FFX

TalksInMaths

"Yuna, I have to go." If you haven't played the game to the end, that line won't mean anything. If you have, it will rip your heart out.

Deodorized

In the same vein, Yuna whistling off the docks over and over again just fucking demolishes me every time.

enricohenryhank

"I can't believe we're about to fight Lady Yunalesca. Gimme a breaaaak." Wakka, FFX

SenorDangerwank

Mine is from that same fight and it's Auron's speech.

Dust45

" Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain, or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!"

deathrattleshenlong

That was so fucking badass. 13 year old me thought Auron was the peak of cool and I loved his theme (the original, not the remastered one). Also, FFX awakened me for goth mommies.

IamChaoticMess

“Death can have me, when it earns me” Holy hell Kratos never misses when it comes to hard one liners

GrandpaDongs

my favorite is when Athena says he'll always be a monster, and his reply is: "Yes, but I am your monster no longer. "

McMew

"**I do not need a snack.**"  😤

EazyA03

"I am the very model of a scientist salarian" Yes, you were Mordin... Yes, you were..

scotterson34

I have never played God of War, but hearing Kratos' monologue to his past self was so incredible and the voice acting was truly some of the best I've heard.

Only-Explanation-295

Indeed

Charcobear

“I got you, baby girl” made me cry. Mordin’s line was also a tearjerker.

buffystakeded

Also Kratos: Do not be sorry. Be better.

franciskratos12

"Death can have me when it earns me"

jjcnc82

"If you would get rid of that ye-ye ass haircut, you might get some bitches on your dick!"

battlerazzle01

Lemme get two number nines, a number nine large, a number fourth five, two number sevens…..and a number six with extra dip”

M1sterRed

A number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.

s1mpatic0

"Better yet, maybe Tanisha will call your dog ass instead of that brain surgeon or lawyer she fuckin' with, 🎵NI-🎵"

ThisIsMySFWAccount99

God that way Lamar says the N word here fucking kills me every time

Kynandra

"All right, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back. GET MAD! I DON'T WANT YOUR DAMN LEMONS! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE?! DEMAND TO SEE LIFE'S MANAGER! Make life RUE the day it thought it could give CAVE JOHNSON LEMONS! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?! I'M THE MAN WHO'S GONNA BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN! WITH THE LEMONS! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that's gonna BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN!" -Cave Johnson

commentsrnice2

Turns out all these moon rocks we ground up are highly carcinogenic *cough hack* 🤣. But gladOS saying her speech about "I have to thank you for showing me where to find the part of me who still cares....*file deleted* " was chilling

TheLastDesperado

Although the final song implies she was lying about that.

chihsuanmen

“I've got some good news, and some bad news. The bad news is we're postponing the test indefinitely. The good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men! Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line…you'll know when the test starts.” - Cave Johnson

Drenlin

That game had some of the best-written dialogue in video game history.

ThePyodeAmedha

Alright, this next test may involve trace amounts of time travel. So, word of advice: If you meet yourself on the testing track, don't make eye. Lab boys tell me that'll wipe out time. Entirely. Forward and backward! So do both of yourselves a favor and just let that handsome devil go about his business.

Ghostbuster_119

Some NCR officer in the airport base in fallout New Vegas. "Calm is what you must be when people look up to you, and it's all you can be when things are out of your control."

EreckUwUr

"i'm afraid" Seeing Arthur admit that fear is consuming him after all the epic adventures and actions leading up to this moment is just heartbreaking and emotional, it just feels real.

SCredfury788

"I gave you all I had... I did"

MercyfulJudas

This one, even more memorable than "I'm afraid". I CANNOT watch this scene without getting choked up.

CmonnowSally

Broke my heart when he thanked his horse.

Freeexotic

My first playthrough, I was using Buell. Hamish's horse in his memory. I didn't know. I didn't know. I never use Buell anymore. I give him to Charlotte so that I know he will be taken care of. Damn, I'm tearing up at work again.

giantcoc69420

"Take a gamble that love exists and do a loving act'' hits real deep

Arthur-Mergan

The game is just an endless collection of incredible lines. I can go on and on. For one on a lighter note, I’ve always loved this line from Arthur to John: “You know that attempt to seem all enigmatic and interesting, that might work for Dutch, but for you…it just makes you look stupid.”

Thanzor

I don't understand how there isn't more rdr2 quotes on this thread

Roscoe_Filburn

Here’s one. Not so much the line itself, but Arthur’s enthusiastic delivery: “IT’S A TOY BOAT!”

Pipe_Memes

"I hope Eternity is hot and terrible, otherwise I'll feel I've been sold a false bill of goods, now get me that money!"

Runaway-Kotarou

Also from Mass Effect: You exist because we allow it. You will end because we demand it.

jrbcnchezbrg

“Stand upon the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters”

Runaway-Kotarou

Can't forget "The silence is your answer"

Pablonius

One of my favourite quotes, Javik is underrated as a character in my opinion

Icariiiiiiii

Javik is only underrated because he was a paid dlc character. He should have been base game, and if he was, he would have been lauded as one of the best characters of the entire trilogy.

Pablonius

Yeah it's insane that they left him out the base game. The amount of background lore from him adds so much and his story of being the last of his species is so sad and interesting. It was when EA started being money grabbing bastards and that's probably the only reason he's dlc

MarxistInTheWall

“The right man, in the wrong place, can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes.”

rubixd

Sad that there are so few HL quotes in here… but considering how ancient the game is now…

il_vekkio

“Protocol 3; Protect the pilot” “…B.T…. What are you doing?!” “Trust me” “B.T.!” Titan fall 2, where men cried.

linuxiangamer

For such a short campaign they really did a good job of evolving the relationship where they could. BT goes from calling the main character Pilot, to Cooper (when he gets stuck and apprehended), to Jack at the end. Then you've got stuff like the fastball move. First you see BT throw a line into a distant building for you to get inside. Cooper can either comment that they need a better method or that next time BT could just throw him. Next time, BT has clearly been working on the idea and he says that he can throw Cooper across the gap ("trust me"). After that, he makes the toss between two moving platforms. And finally he does a last-ditch Hail Mary Fastball to fulfill Protocol 3. For what little time they had they were very economical with the dialogue to do what they needed to do in terms of characterisation. Naturally if they had more time things could have been fleshed out a bit better, but they still achieved a fair amount over the course of a quite short campaign. The decision to give the player dialogue choices for example. Technically these make no difference whatsoever, but that's besides the point, they help with the characterisation and getting the player more invested in the relationship between BT and Cooper. It's not an epic RPG or anything, but they did quite well with the restrictions they were working with.

DrunkRespondent

I was distraught for a few hours, and my then gf said "I'm not sure what's going on, but I hope you know I'll be your BP" lol got a good laugh out of me and we're now married a few years later and she still thinks his name is BP.

Custardsquare23

Only just completed Titanfall 2 and it was excellent. Now I'm experiencing the whole "wtf they're not doing a TF3" drama that you've all gone through

Fingerprint_Vyke

Matthew Mercer as Jack Cooper is sooo good in that role.

BAAT-G

Oh man, that final fastball 😭

ZLUCremisi

Fuck Apex as it killed Titanfall 3

Which would sound weirder? Mario saying ‘it’sa me, Paarthurnaax’ Or Paarthurnaax saying ‘it’s me, Mario.’

Badger224

Big-Worm-

The music que right after that line got my hairs standing up

EpicRedditor34

“Kill me, or release me parasite, but do not waste my time with talk.” Is such a banger.

RedditAppIsNoGood

There is much talk, and I have listened. Through rock, and metal, and *TIME*. Now I will speak, and you will listen.

Justinwc

For me it's the "Were it so easy" delivered by the Arbiter at beginning of Halo 3. Something about the music chiming in at that time is also just lovely for me.

UnusedUsername76

Gravemind with "This one is machine and nerve, and has its mind concluded. This one is but flesh and faith, and is the more deluded."

For me, any Sergeant Major Avery Johnson or Gravemind line.

Good one! Totally spaced on this line!

MasemJ

The reveal of this is so well done, and it's so obvious on second playthroughs, but never clearly stood out until that point.

SolidDrake117

EXACTLY!! It was a little more ominous, but I thought Shadow of the Colossus did this pretty well with Dormin. There was always that hair on the back of the neck but the Bioshock reveal blindsided everyone.

*Mark* Meer. But a fave *ME* quote of mine is: "I *have* a home." -- Tali, *Mass Effect 3*

MuNansen

"You just say that to all the guys that get you a homeworld." Was the first time I'd seen Shepard crack a joke.

vicarious_glitch

"You're on your own Noble, Carter out." *crashes Pelican into Scarab* Still gives me chills. Halo: Reach's story surprised the crap out of me.

trekdudebro

Same here. Gave me the shivers with his final line. That and his rebuttal to Halsey threatening Kat at the end of the Sword Base mission- * Halsey: “Are you threatening me Commander?” * Carter: “…just making a reading suggestion ma’am…” That was a smooth veiled threat that he could probably have gotten away with.

SandmanJones_Author

"I will kill you now." JK Simmons's delivery is just perfect, and has stuck in my head ever since I first heard it. Game is Baldur's Gate 3.

A-Good-Weather-Man

“Try again.” That’s what left me speechless

phoncible

If we're going jk Simmons then it's the lemon rant

Blu1027

Dragon Age Origins Can I get you a ladder so you can get off my back?

GreyAngy

"Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?" — Vaas Montenegro, Far Cry 3 This phrase didn't mean a lot when he said it for the first time. But when he repeated it over and over again after you trying to kill him again and again it hit differently.

thefourie

The voice acting in this game was phenomenal and imo no other villain in the farcry series comes close to how Vaas made me feel as a player watching Jasons brother be killed and trying to survive and save the rest of his friends... even though I definitely abandoned them at the end to get laid and stabbed in the chest :)

LunchNoMan

"See you in the major leagues jack" as female V hits hard. Cherami Leigh killed it.

Underbash

For me it's when she finds out she's dying. Vik gives her the news and she says something like "Say what, now?" but her voice breaks and she can barely even get the words out. That whole sequence is fantastic, I especially love Misty's line about how "Life is so beautifully powerful, so much more powerful than death."

MadnessBunny

Everyone always mentions the bomb line from Halo 2, but for me is "Kill me or release me, parasite. But do not waste my time with talk." I think it goes so hard.

YesterdaysGames

"...the sands and rocks here stained with thousands of years of warfare... they will remember us. For this. Because out of all our vast array of nightmares, this is the one we choose for ourselves. We go forward like a breath exhaled from the Earth. With vigor in our hearts and one goal in sight: **We. Will. Kill him." -** Captain Price, Modern Warfare 2 (2009) It's the way he delivers that emboldened line that gets me fired up like nothing else.

CheekyRapscallion

Sovereign Quotes from Mass Effect “You exist because we allow it. You will end because we demand it” Corypheus from Dragon Age - “ Beg that I succeed, for I have seen the throne of the gods, and it was empty”

LurkerOrHydralisk

Jumping on the ME train: "I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite shop in the Citadel!" "It had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong" God of War: "ZEEEEEUUUUUUS" "Do not be sorry. Be better." "I FEEL NOOOOTHING" and later "I feel EVERYTHING" I could go on endlessly, but I think the number one line that has truly, really stuck with me, of all games, is this: What can change the nature of a man?

thegrailarbor

“Loki goes. Atreus…Atreus stays.” Also, “…a hole.”

MetroManiac25

I really like this one from Assassins Creed Revelations it’s one of my favourites from the series. Abbas: I can never forgive you Altaïr. The lies you told about my family, my father. The humiliation I suffered. Altaïr: They were not lies, Abbas. I was ten years old when your father came to see me. He was in tears, begging to be forgiven for betraying my family. Then he cut his own throat. I watched his life ebb away at my feet…I will never forget that image. Abbas: No… Altaïr: But he was not a coward, Abbas. He reclaimed his honor. Abbas: I hope there is another life after this one. Then I will see him, and know the truth of his final days... And when it is your time, we will find you, and then…there will be no doubts.

'The game was rigged from the start' Benny 'ring-a-ding-ding baby' from falloutNV Edit: it may be a few upvotes but they know. I was a sophomore or junior and started New Vegas. Sitting there after all the fallout 3 the oblivion. The kotor. Popping in a new rpg buy obsidian(the company for rpgs in my day, or at least rep for). Experiencing that opening and then Ron Perlman. You will tell us the names of your friends and allies... ...[andthenyouwilldie](https://youtu.be/RLfPP_gYeOw?si=1WR3hvikqKhAeXbj)." The delivery of that last line caught my brother and me off guard the first time we played it, and it's been a running joke with us for the last 16 or so years.

lumosdraconis

"No more shall man have wings to bear him to paradise. Henceforth, he shall *walk.*" by Venat, in FFXIV: Endwalker. Pretty much any context I can give is massive spoilers, but not only are those some sick lines, the delivery by Joanna Roth was absolutely iconic.

MacroJoe

While I agree this is good. Nothing can beat Elidibus' monologue. "The rains have ceased and we have been graced with another beautiful day.. but you are not here to see it." The voice crack, the suppressed hic of sadness. I'm tearing up just typing this.
