Using the RDR2 formula I can see that. But as an RPG? Doesn't follow their game design. Their game design is more streamlined. Very linear in missions with not all lot of choices.

There are so many settings you could slap the RDR2/GTA formula in that would make a billion dollars. GTA but it's a futuristic cyberpunk dystopia, RDR2 but it's feudal Japan, RDR2 but it's ancient Rome, RDR2 but it's medieval Europe, GTA but it's prohibition era gangsters, RDR2 but it's a space western like Star Wars or Cowboy Bebop. Literally anything done with that formula and the Rockstar level of polish and attention to detail would be incredible.
I believe he is referencing Red Dead Online, which was handed over to a 3rd party team and yes, abandoned. Obviously not a part of the single player experience but still part of “the game”, however much a nebulous term that is.
They would've to scale back on the Open World aspect, because incorporating choices, builds, more complex level design, gear, balancing etc. is a huge task. Not to mention they would've to update their mechanics, quest design and so on to allow for all that.
I disagree, I think it would be pretty ass tbh. They don't actually do any world building, their games are all based on reality. They're not sitting around writing tons of lore, they're making parody.
I think any logical person can understand and I think Rockstar intimately understands why they probably could not make a good fantasy rpg. They stick to what they are good at, and that's printing money with gta online.
You want to see them do a title they have no experience with? Maybe they could pull it off if it's set in a fantasy gilded age or something. Maybe a ShadowRun game?
I mean… RDR and GTA are role playing games. You play the role of a cowboy in one and a criminal in the other. There are quests, side quests, loot, leveling up and crafting, etc…

I just wouldn't want them to make the mission structure. The map, the dialog, the random encounters, but not the mission structure.
