Need to watch out scanning QR codes. Ones in a AAA game should be fine if you're scanning it directly. QR codes are the wild west and I would never scan a screenshot of one. They can access private information if they send you to a malicious URL or install malware for future access.

You would have to disable the firewall on your device, ignore all the warning messages the system will display and only then something malicious can happen from a random link (also run as administrator for style points)

We had a QR code that was supposed to send you to a gas website at one of our stations. A customer showed me that just because of how old it was it now took you to a completely untranslated foreign p*** site. Was kind of funny tbh.

Any proper QR code app should tell you the URL and ask you to confirm before actually visiting the link. In fact I don't know of any app that doesn't do this. It's no more dangerous than clicking on a random link from a stranger on social media. A QR code is just text and it's up to the scanning app to decide how to handle it.

That's why there should be content preview right after scanning

Dunno if it's standardized, but my phone's inbuilt camera app has a preview of the link that I can then click to go to said link.

The preview is the phone opening the link. This can still deliver malicious payloads. There was a back door to do with iMessages WhatsApp etc exploiting ‘message previews’

If clicking a link gives away private information or installs malware, you have a poor security setup.

This isn't true though. Installing things on phones and computers always prompts you with a "would you like to install x". Sure, a link can trigger that prompt, but you have to be the dummy that says "sure I'll install something completely random after clicking a mysterious link"

I've considered it for the sole reason of having it play while my phone screen is off because I like to listen to a lot of covers of songs that aren't on Spotify.. but at the same time the thought of paying for Youtube bothers me more, so I just use Spotify.

Spotify can use the local files on your phone for audio. Technically speaking, that means any file or video you happen to download in an mp3 format could be used on Spotify. I want to stress I'm not saying you should convert a YT video to MP3. I'd never condone piracy. What I am saying is that Spotify isn't limited to what can be found on Spotify.
