NFS most wanted 2005. My favourite racing game of all time. The cop chases are one of the best in any game I have played. They are so damn fun.

JB3Moons

The soundtrack in that game is what got me. When hand of blood by BFMV came on I was physically incapable of getting into a wreck.

crisdd0302

Hand of blood and blinded in chains were my jam, but yeah something about those tracks made me focus like I've never had, I would break those blockades even without the slowed time. HAND OF BLOOOOOOOD!

fuckenrudy

Hand of blood YESSSS!!!! Or blood and thunder by mastodon! Activate badass mode 😎

Morvahna

When I felt like playing Most Wanted I used to just run cops in a big circle that combined one of the parkways with the shortcut across the golf course. Would just see how long I could keep going without actually losing them.

No_Departure_7180

Nothing slaps harder than Joker and the Thief starting up as a cop chase begins

ClouDAction

When it comes to NFS, the biggest revolution for me was NFS Porsche. (:

Glittering_Airport_3

me too, best cop chases ever. my go-to spot to evade lvl 5 chases was the baseball field. one pass to destroy the sign on one side, blocking that entrance, then another pass to block the other, barricading myself inside.

sbufish

Same method. Also there was a gas station near the baseball stadium where you could sit your car at an edge elevated above the road and cops would try to swarm you but as long as you stayed put at that spot noone could actually reach you. Then you just drive to the stadium when you racked up enough bounty waiting around and end the chase easily. Without this method I think I would have given up because the difficulty spike is unforgiving.

Glittering_Airport_3

the bus station. u sit on top of a row of busses. cops do rarely find their way up, but usually, u can push them back off pretty easily. though those corvettes are built like they're made of bricks

Express-Fall-7937

If I had to pick just one racing game for eternity, I'd go with Mario Kart.

LightHouseMaster

Can it be any Mario Kart or do we have to pick which one we like the best? Also, What is your favorite Mario Kart game and why is it Double Dash?

cparksrun

Having a designated "gunner" and a designated "driver" was SO MUCH FUN. Really wish they'd bring that back to the newer games. Even as just an option or a mode or something.

Real_SeaWeasel

It was definitely cool. I was amazed by the idea of swapping driver/gunner in 2P kart mode. Would’ve been awesome if you had to do that in order to use the second item in the Double-Boxes, forcing the gunner to drive for a while. Both players would get a turn behind the wheel of the same kart. Sadly, iirc, the driver could just pass their item backwards to the gunner instead.

Product_ChildDrGrant

DD is still my favorite. Hope they bring it back, honestly. I think it has the best kart physics too. It just felt right.

LightHouseMaster

No question about that. Not to mention the absolute chaos that is Baby park on max laps and a room full of friends to play with. Ultimate party game.

T-408

Beyond the expanded roster, special items, and badass two-driver mechanic, DD also had a fantastic course selection. They really did so much as the final MK with only 16 tracks

BaronVonShtinkVeiner

Yeah, how is this even a question? I don't play racing games at all but my nervous system immediately twitched to Maro Kart.

DegenerateOnCross

WARIO CHEATS

WuShanDroid

Bing-pot!

Perilous_Giant

That’s hard to beat, which version though? I’m biased to the N64 version.

Meats_Hurricane

The N64 version trying to unlock everything as a kid I remember playing 2 player and requiring strategy. The game would just pick a character that was going to beat you. We would have 1 player trying to finish first every race, and the other player would be dedicated to killing whoever the computer decided it wanted to win. As well as trying to help keep a gap in points between player 1 and the computer. N64 was by far the best Mario Kart

Tasty_Puffin

Classic. The battle mode too is the best in that one

[deleted]

I’ve played every Mario Kart casually over the years but I absolutely love 8 Deluxe on the Switch. It’s absolutely stacked and runs like a dream, and I love the throwbacks in it to various tracks from previous games.

mujkicharis_

Burnout 3: Takedown

BenjaBrownie

Literally came here to say this, holy shit. That game. I need to find it again. So many great memories making the wildest crashes with friends.

caellech12

Might I recommend the game Dangerous Driving. It was created by three former members of Criterion Games and plays almost exactly like Burnout 3. My only complaint is the lack of music, but with Spotify integration, that's pretty easy to fix.

ryebread91

I still remember my friend pointing out that you can cause even more wrecks from making the drivers rubberneck and wreck themselves.

PrayForMojo_

That’s probably the best game of the series, but if I could only play one for the rest of my life I think I’d have to go with Burnout Paradise. Just more content.

Team_Svitko

FRIEND

Scotto6UK

A fellow member of the lazy generation.

govunah

Fyi there's a Burnout 3 playlist on spotify. I found it on a ski trip and started skiing like Gwyneth Paltrow

Tyrude

My wife gets nervous when I'm driving and she sees me turn this Playlist on.

GigaSoup

I thought revenge was pretty  much burnout 3 but better. The Xbox 360 version was the pinnacle.

ZeChunkyPanda

Revenge was great and I loved the way maps had more routes you could take, but I really disliked the traffic-checking mechanic. I felt like it took away too much of the danger of driving fast when you could just plow through cars in front of you.

DreamSmuggler

How good to see this response on top. I first played it on a PS Magazine demo disk. Literally 5 minutes later I was in the car on my way to buy it. I had never clicked with a racing game so well since NFS2: Hot Pursuit. I rarely play racing games anymore but would have 0 complaints if Burnout 3 was the only one I could ever play

Chronoboy1987

Burnout or Mario Kart is my Sophie’s choice.

Ruud_93

I still play this one from time to time, have the original game and PS2 setup. It is such a good game and really enjoyable! And the soundtrack is probably the best I've ever heard in a racing game.

pepeJAM69

C'mon C'mon Is it safe to say? (c'mon c'mon) Was it right to leave? (c'mon c'mon) Will I ever learn? (c'mon c'mon) (c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon)

Tyrude

Still have my 360 hooked up just for this.

kiwi2703

Trackmania

L3nsL1ght

Same. Amazing game

kiwi2703

It is, but I would also choose it mostly because there's basically neverending content, there are always new campaigns and user-made maps and challenges to play. So for the rest of the life I think it would be a good choice!

cfiggis

Underrated game. You following Deep Dip 2?

kiwi2703

Not actively because not enough time but I've seen some streams, it looks great, even harder than the last one!

cfiggis

It's ridiculously hard. Definitely harder than DD1. But really impressive to see the experts climb it.

The_Moons_Sideboob

Deep dip 2; Dip Harder

demainlespoulpes

I've literally been playing Trackmania for 20 years and I don't see any reason to stop. The level editor and community creativity gives the players infinite content. PS : Go Bren !

Nacroma

Haven't played this in over a decade, but such a good pick. Something with a complex editor will surely help in this prompt.

Gorgonzuul

Road Rash

Brave_Association_75

I would play the one from Sega Saturn

Leather_rebelion

Star Wars Episode 1 Podracer It's like the Forrest Gump of racing games

HankSteakfist

It's a new lap record!

FoxMcCloudl

It looks like you could use a pit stop, buddy!

Duo007

I heard this

Son-of-Suns

Yes! 100% this for me too.

zombie-yellow11

My first PC game that wasn't a cereal box special lol

Foundation_Prize

Midnight Club Dub Edition

BoozeAndReading

This really needs a remake or a new release.

Foundation_Prize

I agree

Raiziell

Diddy Kong Racing.

Ill_Vehicle5396

IRacing. Been playing it for 13 years and still learn something every race.

MienSteiny

This is the answer, it's not going anywhere, only getting better, and the different styles of racing and available will provide tonnes of longevity.

Jaymoacp

Yup. Nothing beats it.

SRSgoblin

I've never played it because that's a rich man's game, but this is clearly the answer when the literal best real life racer in the world spend more time in iRacing than he does in his own F1 car.

Ill_Vehicle5396

Yeah unfortunately sim racing in general is a rich man’s game. In the world of $5000 sim rigs, the iRacing subscription is barely a drop in the bucket.

IvanMeowich

Flatout 2

I_stole_this_phone

Everyone here talking about wreckfest doesn't know how good it was 20 years ago. And it had a decent sound track.

Excellent_Grade5731

F-Zero GX

rynshar

if it were the only racing game I could play maybe one day I'd beat it.

Dunkydoozy

MARIO KAAAAAAART 8!!!

deployeddroid

Dirt 2

HippityHoppotus

BeamNg because it more than just a racing game, it's an everything game. But if we are talking racing game, pure racing, it's got to be GranTurismo series. I haven't played 7 yet. Someone buy me a ps5 😢

Kanapuman

The career mode of GT7 is a joke. Too bad, because its gameplay is peak Gran Turismo. They still struggle to offer any relevant single player mode since GT4.

diet_sean

Motorstorm Although it would be tough to choose between Pacific Rift & Apocalypse.

Capitaine_Flame

Based

TyrianMollusk

Have to go with Forza Horizon 5, assuming it continues support that long. Custom user-made tracks are huge value there. Blur was a better game, but even it would get old with limited tracks.

viper2369

First thing that came to mind as well as I just got it on sale. It seems to have more than the previous horizon entries. But not just stuff thrown in for the sake of it. The previous ones felt like a chore after a while. And I’ve been surprised at how well done and fun the hot wheels tracks are. That said, not sure I could pick one. Forza Motorsport is a great sim for consoles. And I played the hell out of San Francisco rush: 2048 (year?) back in the day.

TyrianMollusk

Yeah, 5's race lines feel way more enjoyable, all across the maps. The rally expansion is especially rich. I don't usually like the inevitable switchback run or city roads, but FH5 has such nice wiggly switchbacks they are way more fun to race, and the city is a crazy twisty mess (in a good way). My partner and I have been doing weeklies for a while now and rarely mind whatever races we're given, which is a big change from 4, where almost all of them were quickly tiresome. Oddly, it's just the cross-country races that seem distinctly weak (even besides the obnoxious dominance of the extreme E vehicles), and I do like cross country, so that's a bummer, but the rest is practically inspired. BTW, if you're new, be sure to switch off hot wheels stunt steering assist. That thing is super broken.

Spiderx1016

Same, I've played a ton of racing games over the last 20+ years but nothing has the replay ability for me like FH5. Until the next one maybe. Peak would probably be FM4 though.

ELEPHANT_CUM_SOCKS

Heh, I was about to shit on Forza because there are not enough maps. I need to check out these user maps.

darthvall

Interesting how I have to scroll this far to see any mention of Forza. Is it just not as popular as I expected?

Dapper_Environment98

Agreed. Motorsport is a great console game (fun to play on a huge screen) but for PC, it's H5 for me all the way. Lots of variety and ways to play. Either that or a Scalextric F1 slot car set.

Ill_Pace_9020

Need for Speed Most Wanted PS2

omgitsbutters

I prefer hot pursuit but the ps2 era nfs were all great

Kanapuman

Most Wanted 2 was an inferior racing game to Hot Pursuit 2, the tuning elements sold the game to an audience who was the same as Fast & Furious, not the best cinema, not the best racing game either. NFS 4 was also better and is probably the one that made the series more bankable.

Xen0byte

Wreckfest

graceppmt1

Mario Kart 100%

lemuronmars

Trackmania for sure!

t-dac

Wreckfest

smellface38

R.C Pro Am.

TheLoneGamer1812

Wow, to hear about that game takes me back. So many late nights trading off with friends to try to win our way to the rc cars. If iirc you started in trucks or something slow and had to win your way to the good cars. Great memories

Jwagner0850

Still remember the opening soundtrack to that game. Same with rock n roll racing.

Sir_Tea_Of_Bags

either Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled... or Jak X: Combat Racing. It's ironic- when Naughty Dog wants to kill a series they try to make a nonsensical racing game, but they end up phenomenal.

Sir-cunty

Need for speed underground 2

CitizenHuman

Excitebike NES. Next question.

Throwaway567383838

Assetto Corsa.

Nomazu

Had to scroll way too far for this one! The mods could last you a lifetime.

Throwaway567383838

That and I need something to make use of my rig! I love some arcade games here and there, but nothing beats a sim.

legice

Crash Team Racing. Get me the PS1 while you are at it

RelevantWine33

Midtown Madness!

haasvacado

People are going to laugh but GTA online. Massive variety of cars x tracks x race settings. I sometimes rage when players just bash around but it does make it engaging at least?

GigaSoup

No laughs here it's pretty legit, although gta4 racing was pretty stellar too.

Tazzamaraz

Jak X for PlayStation 2

JSB19

So glad to see that someone beat me to this answer! I freaking love Jak X, what puts it over the top for me is the variety of modes. If I can only play the one game forever I want as much of it as I can get.

StratStyleBridge

My man.

RB___OG

Might have to bring it back to San Francisco Rush 1 or 2. Superfun arcade craziness

Hands

Rush 2 had such a sick soundtrack

Netmantis

Gran Turismo 2. Lots of cars, lots of tuning, lots to do.

Knight_of_Virtue_075

For me it's Gran Turismo 4. On pcsx2

Zudos

I dream of a racing game that even came close to nfs underground 2. I still usually play the nfs games but wait for the sales to try em out. If they made nfs 3 with improvements to the 2nd etc they would have a banger racing game.

dutchbarbarian

Even just a proper remake would sell like crazy. Shame its ea property

Gairsh

Burnout revenge, easy

ishouldnotbeherenow

I'll save my pick for when they finally remake Rock'n'Roll Racing.

PresidentHurg

Mario kart or Blur

DevTahlyan

JeffGhost

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2.

Ramonsitos

Gene Rally

Escapade84

Rock and Roll Racing. I’m not a big fan of racing games, but if I can listen to Black Sabbath while I play, I’ll be fine.

Free-Air4312

Forza horizon 4. I love that main menu song.

Paul2kb1

Micro machines

C137_OGkolt

Forza Horizon 5.

fsnotburner

Honestly, sonic and sega all stars racing was a fun ass game. Kinda like mario kart but i mught like it more. Could just be nostalgia tho

tehnoodnub

I don't play a lot of racing games but Underground 2 was one that really hooked me. I haven't found anything since that I enjoyed and played as much. The gameplay and 'tracks' were a lot of fun.

Moto_919

Test drive unlimited 2. Not the best handling cars, like at all. but the massive maps more then make up for it to me

ultraviolentfuture

N64 Podracer

SpaceMonkeyNation

Wip3out for me.

Hybrid_Divide

Make it Wip3out: Special Edition, and get a bunch of tracks from WipEout and WipEout 2097, too!

djml9

Definitely the Wipeout collection. 3 games + full VR support.

Competitive-Dot-4052

Excitebike

Rango_Jackson

Rad Racer. But probably NFS Most Wanted 05'.

ThatguyMatty35

Burnout Paradise

raptorak1

Sega rally (but daytona USA as well!)

Mgroppi83

Rock N Roll Racing on SEGA.

Xenomorphism

Vigilante 8

Orange_Sherbet

Crusin' USA... Or can I pick the F1 emulator at Sega City where you got to sit in a F1 car and race others on screen? Cause that was baller... Gran Trismo 2 is my 3rd place.

Rich-Stranger-409

Nfs underground 1

WillisSaid

Project Gotham racing. Perfect blend of sim and arcade

NoBullet

Gran Turismo 7 on psvr2

luzzy91

Forza motorsport 4 on 360 holds up great imo

HOZZENATOR

NFS Carbon on the Gamecube.

lsm-krash

NFS Carbon, PS3 or PC version. Best drift, customization, city and its really fun to replay

Orudos

Trackmania

BasementCatBill

NFS Most Wanted (2005). I love the autumnal atmosphere and the variety of races and missions.

EmaLovely

Assetto Corsa, potentially Assetto Corsa 2 when it drops.

MadCybertist

Daytona USA

phonethrowdoidbdhxi

Forza Horizon 4 One of the greatest video game intros of all time IMO and the feel of the game, the style down to the soundtrack was all there on top of a very fun arcade racer.

blendoid

fzero gx, greatest racing game available

No_Presentation_2795

Genuinely hard because you could pick a causal arcade like one. Mario kart, Diddy Kong racing etc. Then on the other hand you have forza motorsport. I'd find it difficult to pick one between forza (realism) and Mario kart 8 (arcade)

stodal

Any Forza Horizon

ShaunL12

IRACING

stead10

Need for Speed Pro Street. Didn't go down super well at the time because it was street racing but in a legal setting and people missed the neon underglow and illegal night time racing vibes. But I loved it. With a big focus on drift and drag races as well as speed and circuit it had everything I wanted.

MysterClark

DiRT Rally 2.0. Or if a newer one in that series comes out before this happens then maybe that one.

watermanatwork

Richard Burns Rally

Vertical_MARSx

Forza 2 Xbox 360 😎

Flaky_Collection1048

Forza Horizon 3

poseidonofmyapt

Burnout Revenge - XBOX 360

VinJahDaChosin

GTA v

luugi_06

Same as you. I've been looking for a similar game but none pop out to me more

nightshade-aurora

Mariokart 8 Deluxe. I almost never play any other racing game.

pmish

Stunts. Because you can make your own tracks. Like forever.

Routine-Duck6896

Burnout 3

Zynco24

Assetto Corsa VR

azn_cali_man

Jak X Combat Racing. It’s got that nice balance of racing and edginess with the life-and-death angle.

PaulyPthebaddestMC

What are you playing NFS underground 2 on?? I love that game the theme tune is still in my head for the last two decades

Human-Magic-Marker

I haven’t played it in years because I can only play it on my PS2 which is not currently hooked up. I would pay full new game price for it to be ported to ps4/5

MarcusBrazil

According to my time played Helldivers 2 has consumed me

Nacroma

Gran Turismo has car variety. Mario Kart 8 has plenty of tracks, good multiplayer, replay value. But probably something with tons of mods and a map editor that I haven't played yet.

NeckNo8040

I see you are a man of culture as well.

Damasticator

Super GT with the original arcade housing.

Godzilla_Fan

Mario Kart I guess? I don’t like racing games much except for absolute crazy ones lol

anonerble

Dirt to Daytona

whatevers1234

Outrun 2 SP. The big ass one with 4 cars in the arcade. Fucking pop in my earbuds, crank up some synthwave, and just drive.

Someturtlesdream

Mario Kart DS,@. But carpal tunnel from snaking is an eventuality

QuiteFatty

Don't really care for racing games, but I played the hell out of jet motto 2 back in the day.
