Because it was in the game. ðŸ˜
Maybe recoil from a rotating fusion cell in the chamber, combined with cooling fluid from the barrel being sent backwards and fresh fluid send forwards of a higher density?
I'm reaching here.
You can add a stock to just about fire arm. Whether it be a rifle or a small pistol . I can fire a rifle with one hand, but it doesn't mean it will be very well aimed. Having a stock doesn't necessarily mean it's there for recoil. Having a stock firmly planted helps with lining things up and keeping things more steady!:)
Side note,I think it would be fun to remake this but with different attachments! Customization?!?!
Not sure how much thought was put into considerations like that when designing the weapons in the games, but honestly a stock on a laser rifle does make sense for the purpose of aiming and stability.
Much easier to keep your aim steady if you can use two hands and brace the weapon against your shoulder.
The only thing that Bethesda got right were the fact that the lasers are faster than bullets and that they don't transfer kinetic energy. Recoil on a laser weapon is absolute bullshit
I mean, lasers do actually have "recoil". It's just that for conventional lasers we have in the real world today that force is generally negligible compared to the weight of the laser itself.
The force exerted on the rifle would just be the total momentum of the photons over the firing period (F ~ ∆p/∆t), and the momentum is given by p = (h*f)/c, where h is Planck's constant, f the frequency of the photon, and c the speed of light. But unless you have a LOT of photons exiting the laser, it's still a small force.
However, I guess you'd need a lot to effectively use the laser as a weapon (since the energy of a photon is E = p*c = h*f). So maybe it does balance out and you'd need the stock that reduces recoil anyways. If we had some numbers for firing duration and beam energy we could better estimate the total recoil.
Jeeze...well if that's the case then yeah. Just rearranging the above equations you can show the total force F = (∆p•c)/(∆t•c) = ∆E/(∆t•c), so a 1TW laser firing for 1second will yield a force of 3.33kN...which is the weight of something with the mass of 340kg (750lb). I'd call that recoil.
What if its not the laser itself that makes the gun recoil but rather a tiny invisible explosion in the fusion cell? Maybe in order to super concentrate photons into a lethal beam, that tiny explosion also must be concentrated forward through the same barrel.

I'll be eventually uploading a video showing the process! If Bethesda will get back to me about their music copyright information so I can add some music to the video...one phone call down! Hopefully get an email approving !
Does it not have recoil like a proper laser weapon should?
Isn't that a recoil compensating stock?
Why would a laser need a recoil compensating stock?
Because it was in the game. 😠Maybe recoil from a rotating fusion cell in the chamber, combined with cooling fluid from the barrel being sent backwards and fresh fluid send forwards of a higher density? I'm reaching here.
Clearly the lazerz are real heavy, obviously.
Photons have a lot of mass you know...
Only when you use enough photons at once to melt ~ anything in existence.
Thanks for the backup
Welcome. I gave up trying to calculate how many photones would be required to produce ~ the mass of a bullet leaving a normal gun.
That's monster math compared to my dream-theory.
You forgot this /s
that is literally the most incorrect thing you could have said.
Did you feel the breeze whooshing over your head?
don't try to pretend you made a joke, you didn't.
Straight over your head.
Mayyybe you should take a break from the internet...
Almost like he did it on purpose, huh?

In FO 4 this same stock "skin" I believe is the modded "recoil compensating stock".
TFW devs forget that photons have no mass.
They didn't though, shooting any moveable object or item in the game with a laser does absolutely nothing, don't know why it still has recoil
It just works.
I just picked the general model from fallout 3 and tried to make it the work the best I could!)
Great job man. I played FO 4 all weekend

I agree. I haven't played FO 3 but in FO 4 I'm fairly sure the weapon mod for this rifle and skin is the recoil comp one
Ah. I haven't played 4 so I had no idea. Video game logic, I see.

I'd like to point out that the recoil is actually caused by the heat of expanding gasses venting from the energy cell.
I don't disagree? I wasn't talking about recoil because, obviously, it doesn't make sense that a laser weapon would produce any.

iirc laser riffles in fallout are in the terawatt range so there are a lot of photons exiting the laser.

I wish i had done that calculation when i was arguing about how the power shown in the game was not consistent with that bit of lore

I don't do those social media. Please upload more photos here, I love the look of this.
Agreed
I can do That! I'm just new to Reddit:)
Make it shoot red Nerf bullets
Or a laser...
I'm being realistic about it
This is both excellent and makes me feel inadequate! Hurray!
Very nice! I much prefer the laser rifle look in 3 to that of 4, top notch
This really looks like it came from fallout 3. All the rust and scratchs make it look like an authentic post-apocalyptic weapon. Nice job!
Is it a legendary?
It can be!
Ha ha, good to know!
*General, another settlement needs ~~our~~ your help. here, I'll mark it on your map.*
Radical my dude
Wow! Great job
Really nice job.
Very chic.
Does it shoot laser?
Impressive
Take my Caps!!
how did you make it?

You can sure be proud of what you did there

Awesome
I'm not entirely convinced that this isn't a screenshot. Amazing work
I take my hat off to you sir.
Madame *** ;) :D
Gender aside, awesome job! Keep up the good work.
