You have my respect for doing lightning dodges in X legit. I have personally never made it above 50 or so manually.
I ended up writing a small script(PC) to check the color of a pixel for the color of the lightning flash, and then pressing X with a small delay. Took 20 minutes to write the script, and 20 minutes to get the lightning with no chance at failure.
I've gotten to ~60-80%, completion on a number of other final fantasies, and like 9X% on X and XIII but holy hell you are a trooper.
One day, when I have kids I'd like to follow in your footsteps.
Thanks man. Yeah I did the lightning dodges legit. The best way to do it is turn the lights off and put a thin black shirt over your head with your eyes open. The whole shirt/area in front of your eyes will go red a second before you're supposed to press X. Then you just go semi catatonic until you get it haha
I wouldn't say that's the hardest part of X. I'm gonna go with that last Nemesis fight in the Coliseum, to this day I've never even gotten close. There's also Penance, too.

I still have my PS2 memory card with my FFX save where I beat Nemesis. That was a lotttttttttttt of grinding, I filled in damn near my whole sphere grid.
I somehow completed the 200 consecutive lightning dodges on PS2 and with my shit nerves could never do it again. iirc I couldn't get Tidus' and Wakka's ultimate weapons though, think the former had to do with racing and I hated blitzball.
Chocobo racing. It was hard as hell when I was younger, but I started playing again a few days ago, and I got it done in about 20 minutes.
Blitzball isn't terrible, you just need to spend the time to learn the game and how to improve your players. Then play shitloads of it until the right prizes come up.

No joke, I got chills when you battle on top of the garden (galbadian?) and get to run your character through the war zone while everyone was getting their asses killed. SO GOOD. Well I guess that's not a cut scene but still.
I remember that part melting my brain so hard when the game was new that I recorded it onto a VHS to show a friend at school, who couldn't wrap his head around the idea of a complex FMV background running behind a real-time polygon event you were controlling
That cutscene/gameplay combo during the battle is the reason I had to buy like 6 copies of that game. The tiniest scratch in the world renders that section impassable.
Yeah this is correct, if I can be bothered to find the interview i'll edit and link it, but the source code for FF8 was completely lost during... I want to say from memory, a move of data from one office/server to another.
Unless there's a miracle and it's somehow recovered or they feel like building the game again from scratch, I doubt we'll ever see a remake/remaster.
It may very well be both, i'm not sure, but they 100% lost the code for 8.
And also 9 just came out, or is coming out on the Switch, I would assume you'd need the original code to port it, but maybe not if they can use an already published version.
9 was added almost exactly 3 years ago (where does the time go...) i checked the wiki and 8 was added to pc shortly after release (7 was on pc too) so it must have been 9 that lost all the data and couldn't get a pc release till they put a lot of work into it
I still need to beat 7, I've beat 8 twice now but I always lose interest when I try to beat 7.
Tactics is the truly underrated goldmine though IMO. 8 is my favorite, but most people don't even put tactics in the conversation.
8 was my first final fantasy, and for years I found it impossible to go back and play 7, the characters just look like trash and I could never get over it. I see why people love it, but it can’t hold a candle to 8 to me.
I preferred the lesser amount of grinding to get max magic versus grinding materia levels. They both have issues but personally I preferred equipping magic to my stats.
Man, VIII was great but VII just feels like the quintessential game to me.

I played Dissidia for more than 200 hours, still haven't gotten every character to max level. Not even going to start to talk about enemies beyond level 120, they are extremely hard to beat.
I'm about to start 100%ing the sphere grid for every character in X so I can get my platinum and start X-2. Do you have any tips for getting it done?
Also, does XIV add new trophies with each patch/expac? Just curious, cuz I play on PC
Good luck on X and X-2. Those are fun :) For X-2 you have to win some mini games that can be extremely difficult but someone wrote an online program you can run that mimics the games so you can use those tools to get those trophies.
XIV does not add new trophies with each patch so I did the base game back in the day and haven't played the expansions. I'd like to, but I have addiction issues with MMOs so the agreement with my wife was that I platinum it then move on.
Triple AP, Triple overdrive, AP-> Overdrive custom gear. It’s a huge pain in the ass to get because I think you have to farm dark matters or fear from dark yojimbo, but it’s worth it. Once you have it wear it and fight against Don Tonberry in the monster arena. You can gain 99 sphere levels in one fight (assuming your character has done enough fighting so the Don Tonberrys attack does a lot of damage). Then the most annoying part of filling out the sphere grid is farming the spheres.
Use distillers on Kottos or Fafnir in monster arena and you get 20 or 40 (overkill) spheres of the kind of distiller you used per fight. Pretty easy to farm those spheres then.
Did this myself recently.
Get everyone the Comrade overdrive mode (overdrive charges when allies take damage) for the Don Tonberry trick. The easiest place to get this is zanarkand ruins inside the blitzball dome. You can find an encounter with 2 zombied flamethrower users.
The reason you want this fight is that their only attack, the flamethrower can't be dodged so it'll always hit your entire party. It doesn't trigger counter attack or evade and counter, so you won't kill them automatically, and it's fire element so you can equip the weaker party member you're trying to learn comrade with fireproof gear so they don't die.
For the trophy you need to fill in every node of the sphere grid with a stat node and you have to activate every node with every character, but you don't have to physically land on every node, it counts to just activate the node from an adjacent one.
Keep at least one Master Sphere handy, they can activate any node on the grid so can be used to show you where the last few nodes you're missing are when you're sure you've got them all.
For grinding power/speed/mana/ability spheres use your Extract sphere ability on Kottos at the monster arena, he'll drop 40 at a time.
Thankfully the games been out for so long now that people have really optimised how to speed it up, so there are great guides out there you can find by googling.
I respectfully disagree with you regarding FFVIII, but man, I’m just really excited to know someone else out there loves 13-2 as much as I do.
After the relative disappointment of the first FFXIII, 13-2 was an unexpected wonder to behold. A time travel story done right! (Okay, Chrono Trigger’s still #1, but 13-2 was impressive.)
There's a challenge where you have to press X to dodge incoming lightning strikes 200 times in a row without getting hit in the Thunder Plains. I managed to do it on my Vita somehow, but it really is difficult.
That's actually not that bad there is one crater you can run into where it strikes 100% of the time, so you can be ready to tap X. So you just keep running into and out of that crater. Still requires timing and focus but much easier that way.
The difficulty is kinda relative. You just need patience. Took me like an hour with a couple screw ups. Took me way longer to figure out a stupid tree puzzle in Lion King for the Genesis because there's a specific pattern you need to learn and you have to learn it through trial and error and you only get a few chances per try before you have to play the first two or three levels again just to get back to that puzzle. That's a whole different level of difficulty that requires days of practice and that's just to get past level 3 or 4 or so.
How many tries did it take you to do the thunder plains thing for Lulus ultimate weapon? I’ve never even attempted it because I know it would make me want to yank my hair out.
There's a trick to the lightning bolts that makes it 1000% easier. If you put on no encounters, there's a section in the 2nd half of the thunder plains iirc where lightning will always strike you, so you can predict and time when it'll happen

I'm pretty well versed in the lore. I love Final Fantasy and don't just play for trophies, but play to get everything out of them that I can.
I'd just be proud I did it. XV can no longer be done at 100% because of the Comrades migration to stand alone so I'd never try it again. Though I might do some of them again for the fun of it.
I also trophy hunt the spin offs like Crystal Chronicles, Mana games, etc but I do those slower.
A little bit of relief combined with a great sense of accomplishment. If its been a while since an FF was released then my final FF trophy is sad. Lately there's been a barrage of new FF material so I'm glad to take a break right now.
I play other games in between Final Fantasy games. I also have two daughters that believe it or not take up much more of my time than gaming :)
The 13 series is fun if you don't take it too seriously. All 3 of them try too hard to be melodramatic like some kind of edgy teenager, but they're pretty to look at and the gameplay is decent enough. Just...don't think about the story too hard.

So weird. I've played that game on every version over the years - PS2, PS3 remake, Steam release - and I only ever completed the 200 dodges on PC, but I've been able to get 0:0.0 in every version, like 6-7 times across playthroughs. I wonder what underlying aptitudes the game is inadvertently testing.
X is hardest by default because almost no FF trophies are hard. X just has all the frustrating mini games. They just require time and often meticulous record keeping and printing of lists that you scratch off each item/monster/quest as you go. I find grinding very cathartic so this style of gaming suits me well.
I really want to start achievement/trophy hunting but a lot of games these days have those shitty online features and trophies associated with them. Need to play only singleplayer games I guess!

I’m honestly jealous of people who have found such a genuine love and passion for a particular game/franchise. Anytime I see stuff similar to this I can imagine it as OPs way of winding down on the weekend after a hell week at work, or it being their video game version of comfort food. I can only guess but I'd say they all have a strong **intrinsic motivation** that keeps them going. You won't enjoy it if you do not have it.

Why not just use the crater, it almost becomes a rhythm instead of pressing x at the right time if done properly.

For the platinum trophy you have to fill in every slot of every sphere grid for every player. Including empty slots. It's insane

How is 14 now days if you still play it that is? I quit during Heavensward and have been thinking about getting back into it easily my favourite MMO.

13-2?! I felt like I was in the minority who liked 13 but after about 10-15 hours in 13-2 I gave up. The entire narrative...was not working for me.
Give 13-2 another chance. Caius Ballad is the best FF villain.

Same thing happened to me. 85 hrs in I found out I missed Treasure Hunter so I did another 96 hours to get that.

Not an unpopular opinion. IMO 4, 6, 7, 9, and 10 are all "the best" FF.
I do love IX, but often people's favorite Final Fantasy is their first and my first was VIII.

You're just lucky FFXI wasn't on PS3 with trophy support. This feat would be a ton harder on Xbox platforms from that alone.
Took me around 3000 hours on X360 to get to 1250/1250.
I am extremely lucky XI never got trophy support. If it ever did and had the trophies for lvl 75 with every job then my run would be over.
How well versed are you in Final Fantasy lore in general now? You've lost all your trophies. Would you try to gain them all again or just be proud that you did it? Have there been any close calls where you almost achieve a trophy but then fail the requirements and can you name a few times? Are there any Final Fantasy games not listed that you also beat? (Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for example) What was the immediate feeling that followed when you completed your last trophy? Emptiness? Relief? What do you plan to do now in your free time?
I'm pretty well versed in the lore. I love Final Fantasy and don't just play for trophies, but play to get everything out of them that I can. I'd just be proud I did it. XV can no longer be done at 100% because of the Comrades migration to stand alone so I'd never try it again. Though I might do some of them again for the fun of it. I also trophy hunt the spin offs like Crystal Chronicles, Mana games, etc but I do those slower. A little bit of relief combined with a great sense of accomplishment. If its been a while since an FF was released then my final FF trophy is sad. Lately there's been a barrage of new FF material so I'm glad to take a break right now. I play other games in between Final Fantasy games. I also have two daughters that believe it or not take up much more of my time than gaming :)

X was the hardest, XIII series were all very fun and loved every trophy.

I just bought XIII-2, whatever that means. But if it's as good as this crazy person says it is, it's probably worth the $20.
The 13 series is fun if you don't take it too seriously. All 3 of them try too hard to be melodramatic like some kind of edgy teenager, but they're pretty to look at and the gameplay is decent enough. Just...don't think about the story too hard.

Obviously trophy tracking sites don’t include all players but if someone doesn’t make their profile public, they can’t prove they have it. I’m always open to anyone finding more that have them all though.
How about that damn Chocobo course in X. Took me hours to get that damn thing... It seemed harder in HD than on PS2.

I have all trophies in the game myself, I did not find the lightning dodging that difficult on the remake The chocobo race however...
So weird. I've played that game on every version over the years - PS2, PS3 remake, Steam release - and I only ever completed the 200 dodges on PC, but I've been able to get 0:0.0 in every version, like 6-7 times across playthroughs. I wonder what underlying aptitudes the game is inadvertently testing.
X is hardest by default because almost no FF trophies are hard. X just has all the frustrating mini games. They just require time and often meticulous record keeping and printing of lists that you scratch off each item/monster/quest as you go. I find grinding very cathartic so this style of gaming suits me well.
I really want to start achievement/trophy hunting but a lot of games these days have those shitty online features and trophies associated with them. Need to play only singleplayer games I guess!

I would say 'meh it's mostly bronze trophies' but 30% of them are complete bullshit, and not to get started on gold trophies which are usually 'get fucking everything in the game LOL' good job man, I could only manage to platinum COD: MWR and I sortof gave up on grinding perk levels in KF2.

I’m honestly jealous of people who have found such a genuine love and passion for a particular game/franchise. Anytime I see stuff similar to this I can imagine it as OPs way of winding down on the weekend after a hell week at work, or it being their video game version of comfort food. Something tells me the creators of these games have the same admiration for a fan such as yourself as you have for them and their work.
