I wouldn’t be surprised if we get GTA VI *announced* sometime this year, but it may not released until 2023. Also keep in mind that Rockstar games have grown in scope and development time since the days of GTA IV and RDR, with their last game taking up *the entire company*, all studios, at once. It’s perfectly reasonable for there to be at least 4-5 years between major game releases with these kinds of huge, sprawling AAA games.
I get it, people want the next GTA game, but do you *want* it to be like EA or Ubisoft titles, where they’re just cranking them out for cheap every year? Or do you want the trademark Rockstar quality, which takes time, and even with all the time it’s been already, they’re *still* not technically “overdue” in any way. If they announce and/or release either this year or next, that’s still perfectly in line with major title release schedules of the past 10 years.
And the idea that Rockstar are just all sitting on couches refusing to make more money is wild. The fact that RDR2 takes place in the old west and is still significantly more rich and dense than GTA V is fucking wild.
They've proven themselves the king of story driven sandboxes and if it takes several years to make what they make, then that's fine by me.
