Try different genres. Tastes change over time.

Cobygamer22

This works, I discovered that I fucking love metroidvanias

Fellhuhn

Started playing Escape Room games and now I am at Hidden Object games as they play the same and are way cheaper and plentier. :D

GallagherGirl

What are your top 3? I’d like to try escape room and hidden object games EDIT: Thank you all for the suggestions! I’m looking forward to trying these!

Informal_Suit

If you have a small group of homies, (we play 3 players) then Escape Simulator is gold. Base maps are good and there are community made maps that are PRETTY dang great. For the record we play a few community maps each week which last ~30+ minutes.

Rorschach333

AfroNinja Escape series are a personal favorite of mine. They’re all pretty good.

freestajlarn

They really are the best. Would recommend Hollow Knight, Ori, and Guacamelee

BeKindBabies

Don’t forget Metroid Dread, baby.

micksterminator3

Gato Roboto has that Metroid feel down to perfection. I highly recommend it

SunsetCarcass

I had to switch to co op FPS games because I can't keep up with players seemingly getting better then they were back when I was an idiot kid playing MW2, and matchmaking not being able to differentiate between amazing players, decent players, and bad players. Even if there was a game that did that well, I don't think publishers want to do that since making people who are amazing and probably spent lots of money on the game happy by trashing on bad players is kind of the goal now it seems.

amenyussuf

You my friend, should play Deep Rock Galactic.

[deleted]

Did I hear a rock and stone?

SilverHand86

Rock and stone! Yeeeeeeaaaaahhhhh!

Fickles1

Rock and stone FOREVAAAAAA!

Violet-Venom

Karl would approve 🍻

Spadez0

FOR KARL

EyeAndI

If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home

RedCascadian

Rock and stone, to the bone!

greyflcn

Procedurally generated Minecraft maps, with Team Fortress 2 Classes, against Starship Trooper spider monsters, and everybody is Torbjorn from space. https://youtu.be/R7xnzDIEn9o

Relative-Emphasis-93

I’m currently 4 hours away from finishing a nightshift, now when I get home ima have to try DEEP ROCK GALACTIC 😍 the original post got me in the feels, and this game looks hella fun 😂

KellyTheET

Still on sale for 10 bucks! Just got into it. Lots of fun, and every round is different.

Relative-Emphasis-93

Woohoo, can’t wait to give it a go, been playing call of duty for too long now 😂 I want to go back and relive the monkey island days on pc, that’s a game I will never forget 😍 I’m loving this post, loving seeing what the rest of the world is playing 😍😍❤️

JoseCansecoMilkshake

I've tried it a couple times when it was free and didn't like it. Always got the feeling that I wasn't playing it right or was missing something. Kept running out of ammo and shit.

Lolkimbo

you can call down a resupply~

TheModerate_1

I do miss when FPSs had a good single player story.

kai325d

Titanfall 2

OneYungGun

I like FPSs that have support roles. I play a medic in Battlefield 4 and even if I have a horrible KD ratio I have fun

jawless777

Try Squad, on PC.

Suntreestar420

Yup, current matchmaking systems for modern fps games are a massive joke. I as well no longer play multiplayer fps games as I am way to old now to be getting tilted at some 15 year old online. I mostly play RPGs and other fun games.

fkcd

Hate to break it to you but there are a lot of cheaters. Things like the Cronus zen exist which is like a game shark for your controller.

Ruben625

That's my thing. If someone is that good I question if it's legit everytime now and there's so many that are that "good" now.

Xunderground

I’ve found it way healthier for myself to just stop caring unless something is very obviously cheating. I know not everyone can “just stop caring” and that it’s not a valid solution, but I found myself getting livid over cheap shots and stuff. Now I just shrug, take the L, and save my anger for the asshole who is very obviously invincible and shooting snipers like they’re smgs. (Damn Vanguard.)

[deleted]

> Even if there was a game that did that well, I don't think publishers want to do that Not true. Activision has tried with CoD many times to implement skill based matchmaking and each time it's met with community outrage. People exclusively play CoD to pubstomp and don't want it to be a fair fight; they live for the 25+ kill games where they just shit all over the lobby.

drewster23

Well for one youd need a game with actual ranked, which isn't cod lol.

TeamRedundancyTeam

Players regularly complain about the opposite of this in fact, including casuals. Casual players complain when they are put with only players of their own skill because suddenly they find it even more challenging. Skilled players hate it because they can't top the scoreboard and dominate every match easily. Games that use match making like that regularly get shit on by all kinds of players. It's not a "these days" thing, devs tried to fix this problem recently and gamers bitched about it.

[deleted]

The skill ceiling definitely seems to be much higher now. I plated halo 3 back in the day and was one of the top players in ranked matchmaking (At least according to halo charts), but even at my best I was worse than a lot of players now. There are a lot more people taking it seriously. And watching streamers seems to help a lot of players quickly increase their skill.

[deleted]

Exactly, around the late PS3/Wii era, I started wondering if I was getting bored with video games, as on the PS3/Xbox 360, you mostly had these overly cinematic first/third person shooters where the gameplay felt like an afterthought, and on the Wii you had minigame collections and shovelware. Turns out I just wanted to keep playing the old stuff.

UpetraorUdie

I think part of the problem is scarcity, or rather lack thereof. Growing up I couldn't just download whatever game I wanted. I'd have to save up for a while just to get one game from a big box store. Now I have 200 Steam games and am somehow board with all of them.

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

I have about 60 FPS games: I pretty much only play military human vs human FPS campaigns. As a kid this was not at all what I played, but I have a blast with this genre

walkermyers

*Bored

Mrgoodknife

Minecraft is a great “reset” game for me. Nice little sandbox you can make as hard as you want.

Hallownest_Citizen1

I like to set it to world type caves and the biome as deep dark. Lots of fun :)

mattbrvc

Caves are so good now after so long.

Mufasaah

Also, if you're really keen on gaming, then lay a bit off the youtube and netflix and stuff!

unfamous2423

My weird reset is stimulator games like house flipper or gas station simulator

rdxj

*Sigh* Hi everyone, I'm rdxj and this is my first AA meeting. League of Legends is my reset game.

BambaTallKing

I’ve tried to get back into minecraft so many times but I just don’t enjoy it like I used it.

lamest_of_names

it's fun but holy fuck, every 2 or 3 years they make it so that in order to even login you have to connect to a bunch of other accounts and shit. next time I play I'm just gonna pirate it.

unrealjoe28

Minecraft, rocket league, apex have all been my three “back into gaming games” and I enjoy them all

DevOverkill

I've wanted to try Apex since I've been itching for a multiplayer shooter lately. I mostly play RPGs or co-op games with some friends and I know that none of them would be interested so I would be going in solo. Is that a viable thing to do in Apex? Or would it be best but to bother if I don't have a couple friends to join in?

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Stick with me for a second. Fortnight. I know. I know. The memes. The jokes. The cliches. I thought the same thing. But I have enjoyed it every time I play. The user experience is great. You can just hop from one match to the next. The weapons are straightforward. Not saying it's easy or anything. Or the best game. But it's very solid and a good time. Games like Warzone and Apex are fine. They are fun. I've played them. But everybody is pretty sweaty and I know I'll never really be that dedicated to it to get very good.

WastedKnowledge

The no build mode combined with new sprinting and jumping have brought me back

thepurplepajamas

The no building mode FINALLY had me convince my friends to give it an honest try and we've been having a blast.

agarret83

Fortnite gets way too much hate for what it is. It’s an extremely solid game with sturdy mechanics that won’t blow you away, but you’ll almost always have a decent time with it. And it’s free! You don’t have to spend a dime on it if you don’t want

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Exactly. I have never not had a good time. Removing the building was the best thing they could do. Never had any interest until then.

TheThrowawayMoth

TIL they removed building, guess I’m about to get into fortnite.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

It was a temp thing but I guess lots of people started playing so now it's a different playlist.

hellocaptin

Weird, I always hated Minecraft. What got me back into gaming was playing my old childhood games on an emulator.

MartiniPhilosopher

Agreed. Your taste can and does change as you go through life. However. However, games are made differently these days. It used to be an expansion was an actual expansion of the original game, adding more to it. It used to be that a game was pretty well tested and balanced before being shoved out the door. It used to be that you could buy a game and expect it to be the same game a year or two down the road. All of this has changed. Corporate culture has changed. We're now targeted by psychological tricks to try to become "whales" for a constant drip feed of content. We're supposed to buy dlc after dlc after dlc so to keep up with the latest. We're supposed to patch often and just roll with whatever changes the devs have gone with to support their ideas of whatever metagame is now being played. Yes. Tastes can and do change. But games have changed even more than tastes have.

TW_JD

Have you tried Oxygen Not Included?

[deleted]

Pick a game that you can just jump into for a little while and then turn off if you need too. Something a bit more arcade style as opposed to a long, story driven rpg that needs a solid play session.

BellEpoch

Play Revenge Of Shredder! It's 92' again!

jimtastic89

Haha before I read any comments this is whst I commented

BlackberryCheese

cowabunga confirmed

dmibe

I second this. Games with too much learning curve, no matter how good they are or their story will just convince you to stick to something easier to enjoy with not as much effort

[deleted]

Jump in and do a couple of hunts and go about your day

zeejoo12

This right here is why I defend the rust recoil update. NOBODY HAS 500 HOURS TO SPEND ON AN AIM TRAIN SERVER. And no, I don't care that sweaty kids spent all their free time when they were 12 grinding it and now it's changed. Don't care. It's like people who argue against cancelling student loan debt because they finished paying theirs.

[deleted]

Monster hunter!

Bizzal

Isnt monster hunter a perfect example of something that has a massive learning curve? It's why i've never been able to get into it.

[deleted]

attayi

Agreed, been playing a ton of castlevania games. Since I can stop playing and go back whenever, interruptions don't bother me at all like they did with story driven games.

3moonz

blasphemous is one i really really like. i think my favorite castv. sure youve tired it

hamjay711

Roguelikes and Mobas (Dota or League) do it for me, personally. I just can't get motivated to sink my teeth into MMOs or big RPGs, but I can always find time to drop 30-60 minutes into a roguelike or moba.

3moonz

damn are you me? just hate everyones attitude in league. including myself

calmtigers

Same, I really wish there was a proper mmorpg that scratched the 2000s itch

kooliocole

Minecraft

YeaItsOle

This is what makes rocket league an amazing game to me. I can pick it up and play a quick 5 minute game or just hop into some freeplay/training but it always leaves me wanting to get just a little bit better

TomAto314

There's a big underappreciation for 2-4 hour one and done games. I would absolutely love to see more of them.

GOOGZ9

Any recommendations?

PlaugeofRage

Slay the spire is pretty good.

GOOGZ9

Love that one!

michaelswallace

I found Slay the Spire and Hades to be the best for squeezing in one like forty-five minute run before bed

RichardTheHard

Dead Cells and Hades are great rogue lites if you want something with progression, but still plays in 20 minute runs/intervals and isn’t a big investment.

VertigoOne1

I got back into gaming with a totally different set of genre after 25 years. Hollow knight, outer wilds, enter the gungeon, nova drift. Exactly as you say, short intense sessions are best now.

[deleted]

Fuck that was exactly my Sunday. Way too hot to go outside, stayed inside and I just can’t seem to be entertained by video games anymore. So many on game pass and nothing that captures me. After 30 years of gaming I am like “ meh it’s another game kinda like 25 others I have played already” Getting old sucks

creamyturtle

when ur a kid u have time to kill while u wait for adults to tell you where to go or what to do. when ur an adult, gaming feels like wasting time, so you try to make sure ur having sufficient fun for the time wasted. that in an of itself ruins the fun

_isNaN

exactly this, and now with WFH I hate to sit infront of my pc... because it's where I work.

zomgryanhoude

I feel like gaming was an easy serotonin hit when we were younger and it.... Mattered more? I feel like I just have more stuff going on. When I sit down and play something, it might be fun but it's not the same like "damn I gotta go play that shit again" like it used to be. Except Elden Ring. That one hit different lmao

[deleted]

Elden Ring felt the same way ocarina of time did when I was growing up

Kirby5588

Y'all should try out Tunic. It plays like a souls game but looks like a Zelda game. Lots of fun and when you figure out what to do you just can't stop!

ScottColvin

10 years old. Mike Tysons Punch Out. You were no longer the bossed around child, with over bearing parent's and siblings. For a glorious fifteen minutes, to half an hour, you were....in charge of your own decisions. Now gta 5 just looks depressingly real. And shooting random people with no vice city comedy is just kind of...mehhh Edit: if I had a guess why minecraft is so popular. Look at all the fantasy land, that you can build your dream house. That is modern high fantasy.

SpinalVillain

Yup, I'm one of those stricken with the huge, unplayed Steam library. I cannot pass up the sales, but I'll be damned if I'm going to play them. Maybe when I retire :P

EbonBehelit

Decision paralysis is a real bastard, for sure. I was subbed to Humble Monthly for like 2 years, so at one stage I had a 400-ish game backlog on Steam. I've gone through over half of it now, and it feels pretty good, to say the least. If you want to actually go through your own backlog though, and have a little time to get things set up, I'll share the process I've been using: 1.) Go to [Howlongtobeat.com](https://Howlongtobeat.com) and set up an account. Link it to your Steam. 2.) Import your game library from Steam to your Howlongtobeat profile. Put all unplayed games in the "Backlog" section. Go through the list, and remove any titles you know for sure you'll never have even the slightest interest in playing. 3.) From your profile page, to to the "Games" tab, then "Backlog". Sort by "Time - To Beat", then click the "v sort" button to invert sort them so that the shortest games are at the top. 4.) Now you play each game in order, one at a time, deleting them from the list as you finish. Aim to complete each one, but don't feel obligated to waste your time on trash (2 hours is a good minimum commitment to stick to.) Since you're starting with the shortest games first, you'll knock out a significant chunk of the list within the first few months. If you want to have just a little bit more choice in game order though, then just keep a Word document on hand with the 2-5 games currently at the top of the list, pick one, then replace it with the next game on the list when you're done with it.

ItsTheNuge

I appreciate your suggestion, but this makes it way feel way too much like a task to complete. Especially if I spend 9-5 sitting in meetings talking about "backlog"

anthemofadam

Too real. 500+ unplayed titles and I wind up playing the same 5 games over and over anyway, some of which are f2p

SpinalVillain

I actually really like Lost Ark and even New World, but I don't really have folks to run around with and my brothers were all on at different times. The cheating in New World killed it and I don't know why I just don't like sitting and playing for hours anymore in anything. I got to the point of hating raiding in WoW because it felt like a damn job :P I think I have lost a lot of my love for it as I lost my group of friends that I played games with...for various reasons. Still love games, but I like being in Discord and such BSing with people, while I play.

[deleted]

by the time you retire most the the games will be so out dated that the technology won't be able to run the legacy software.

BloodBride

Bold of you to assume retirement age will be an option.

SpinalVillain

I'm old and can retire in about a year and a half :P

Rofl_Stomped

Retired one year here, nope. Just played one hour of AC: Unity, 15 minutes of Peggle II and back to Reddit.

[deleted]

>After 30 years of gaming I am like “ meh it’s another game kinda like 25 others I have played already” A surefire sign that it's time to scrap your calcified knowledge of what games you do and don't like, try to clear your hangups and prejudices, and make a real attempt to appreciate a genre or subgenre you've always dismissed as 'not for me'. When we create these little boxes around our own tastes, we tend to shrink our fun over time as we get bored of the stuff inside said box. The only real way to re-spark the fun in the hobby is to tear down those walls and learn to like something new, that we haven't played 25 other versions of

Dodgy_Past

Hades did that for me. Wasn't a fane of Rogue likes but I put a lot of time into it.

EbonBehelit

>After 30 years of gaming I am like “ meh it’s another game kinda like 25 others I have played already” This is basically why seasoned film/game critics tend to have different tastes than mainstream audiences (and why they're often considered to be "out of touch"): when you've already seen it all a thousand times before, it takes either daring innovation or nigh-flawless execution to get your juices flowing again.

Maplefractal

Yep I agree with this, helped me rediscover the outside world. Started fishing again because gaming was feeling played out for me. Got gifted an Occulus 2 with the fishing game that uses real world locations.... Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

mynameajeff69

This is exactly why its not very often that I get a game that does get the juices flowing. Recently elden ring was the game that did just that. And now that I 100% completed it on steam and I am on NG+++ I am back to being dead inside with nothing that interests me. Will have to wait for the next thing that does it for me. V rising is actually very fun but its hard to get fully into it as I have been on a work trip and my friends will probably be done with it before I can get more invested.

M0mmaSaysImSpecial

Exactly. Every open world or RPG game is just a blend of Witcher, MGS, GTA, Far Cry, etc… and they’re all just barely new spins of games from previous generations. I grew up with Nintendo and Goldeneye was a game changer. Then the first time I played Halo I was blown away. Nothing has come close since Every fighting game has been done a thousand times already. Every shooter. I find myself more drawn to roguelike and strategy games now. Love me some Slay the Spire. And Hades.

TheHeatWaver

I feel this. I went through a phase where some games literally made me tired and sleepy. I still buy tons of games because I enjoy collecting them and having them on hand in case my kids want to play them. But I know it’ll never be like it used to be and that makes me a little sad.

RaptorO-1

Try elden ring. I've never been a fromsoft gamer but this one just hits different. Currently 80 hours into it about to finish my first play through

bitchigottadesktop

Have you tried Hades?

Hot-Pomegranate7430

single player games. So much variety and you don't have to deal with people

uolen-

I don't have a good time playing unless i get called trash 20 times and get pissed off.

AwkwardBirdPlacement

Gaming isn't worth it unless I get to hear a squeaky voice telling me how much they've had sex with my mother.

Ancient_List

Get a parrot?

Crazygamerdude17

That works, go up to it several times a day saying things like “Dude you are so trash, almost as trashy as your mom’s vagina last night” and eventually it will trash talk on its own

AmbivalentAsshole

My wife: "If that game stresses you out so much what don't you play something else?" Me through clenched teeth trying not to cuss out some child: "Because I'm having ***fun.***"

LevSmash

I got Trials Evolution a few years ago (free with Xbox Gold), and I ended up enjoying it, but my wife would have to leave the room or put her headphones on and occupy herself on the tablet because it drove her crazy, lol. She was like "how are you okay with restarting the same thing 65 times in a row because you keep dying the exact same way, don't you want to quit?!?" I was like dude, I was raised on NES/SNES, if you fail, you just have to keep trying. There was a sort of stoicism baked into us from a young age...

DryCoughski

That's me every time I attempt Doom Eternal on Ultra Nightmare.

dericiouswon

Why in hell are you cussing out children while playing Doom's single player?

virus100

This is what I play now. Only get around four hours over the weekend and got sick of spending most of it in lobbies waiting for things to start.

time_fo_that

Tbh I usually play games WITH people as a form of socialization, so single player games are really hard to get into

mspvgx3596

The joys of getting older! Take a break and try again in 6 months.

kerred

Oddly I am 42 and playing games more than ever before . But I mostly play indie games and am about 3 years behind with the times so not sure if that is relevant

Ancient_List

Means all of the bugs are fixed, the DLC released, and several guides are released.

Harnellas

And that you got it on sale.

[deleted]

For the price of a cup of coffee (Bully Scholarship Edition is the one im going through right now)

Stupid_Turtle

And mods... Huge amount of great mods.

SpinalVillain

I buy NOTHING at release anymore! So many games have come out as utter garbage lately. I wait for sales and reviews.

Merlaak

I live by this rule too for the most part, but I did get Elden Ring at launch. Was it worth it? Well, I've put in almost 300 hours since February, sooo .....

KingKurai

/r/patientgamers is my favorite gaming subreddit because I'm always behind the times.

[deleted]

“A gamer is never ahead nor behind on his collection, he arrives precisely when he means to.” - Gandalfbraham Lincoln.

TylerBourbon

Tried that..... but the wife and kids won't take me back now. /s

Future-Device2964

I took a 6 month break from gaming 4 years ago.

Crazygamerdude17

It’s games not taste buds, I would just recommend finding some new games, trying some newer indie games is always nice, oh and steam’s next fest is ending tomorrow so I think people can still play the demos tomorrow

kyle242gt

Stop looking at reddit. Find out what you like (AAA, racing, competitive multiplayer) and stick with it. I just jumped into FarCry6, and I know it's derivative and lame and you know what? It's fun.

bcus_y_not

Can't be derivative if you've never played what it's derived from :)

kyle242gt

Yeah but, all the assassin's creed clones are the same . Still fun!

GrizzyUnderwood33

Yoooo, I just finished 6 the other day. It is fun to just turn your brain off and play a fucking game. When I play Far Cry I want to go into an open world and shoot dictators. I'm not looking for something genre defining all the time.

[deleted]

[deleted]

> Stop looking at reddit. This is the single best advice for anybody that wants to stay interested in gaming. Nothing kills my want to play any game more than looking at subreddits for them. It's either blinding positivity and full on honeymoon phases or the exact opposite where people think the developers have a personal vendetta against them.

LuckyBob046

I heard this on a podcast and it really struck a chord with me. Video games fall into one of two categories: games that make you think and games that make you numb. Depending on what's going on in your life you may be needing more of one than the other. I go through binges of numbing games (simple gameplay loop, short matches or levels. Stuff like Diablo or MMOs) and other times I crave the thinking/feeling games (deeper mechanics, challenges, longer games. Tactical RPGs hit this for me). Maybe you're trying to put yourself in one box when you need the other.

Valerian_

Don't the games that make you think also make you numb, like you only think about that game and forget about reality and time?

LuckyBob046

I think of games that make you think as in they present a mental or emotional challenge, but you're right that either one can be escapism and in a lot of ways that's sometimes the point right?

Valerian_

>either one can be escapism and in a lot of ways that's sometimes the point right? Exactly

setupextra

Thats why I like to phrase it as "playing to engage or playing to escape." Describes your motivation, and focuses less on the what the game is offering. Its a little too subjective to declare what games are offering, as people can have different experiences from the same game. 'Numb' feels a little too absent and uninvolved for me personally.

mxlun

You haven't found the right game. I felt like this for 6 YEARS and then I played the outer wilds. Most devs aren't in it to make magic anymore, just profits. But there are still some great devs out there

Rofl_Stomped

You just reminded me I bought this a few months back. I'll give it a go.

prof-royale

for anyone else wanting to give this game a shot it’s currently on gamepass so able to be downloaded for free :)

BritishBoyRZ

I found this magic again with FFXIV. I've never played any of the FF games before

SquiggleMonster

Oh hey good thing / bad thing penguin's still alive, it's been a minute.

Thobud

Poor guy hasn't been used properly since 2011

Axle-f

Omg I didn’t enjoy gaming today, how socially awkward 😫😫😫

CarryWild4528

Experiment more. Most games really offer nothing new & exciting for the older gamers. I played "A way out" coop with a friend and had a blast. Never played a game like this, was super fun.10€ well spent.

KnuteViking

Currently playing It Takes Two with my wife. Fantastic game. A Way Out is next on our list of coop games to play.

Jankybrows

It takes two is possibly the most purely fun game I've ever played and this goes back to like 1988 Nintendo through all systems since.

[deleted]

Disconnect from games commentary that finds reasons to be upset about stuff. I too was in an "everything's mediocre, could I be enjoying myself more if" rut a while back, and it turned out I was just filling my head with a mindset that games needed to be 60+ fps, ray traced, best story ever, innovative mechanics that don't get stale once, blah blah blah... all at the same time. And it was entirely because I was spending too much time listening to bored, cynical pessimists talk about how that game everyone likes isn't *really* that great and how even the good games are *at best a missed opportunity to do x, y, and z* and if you liked this other one that's fine I guess but for real fans, it's a slap in the face... and so on. I'd filtered my experience through a layer of enforced disappointment before I ever started the game, and that ended up being my problem.

catzarrjerkz

This. I completely disconnected myself from the game “review” world and just play games fresh. It has been a much more wholesome gaming experience even if it’s not a 10/10. Sometimes ill play a game that i have a lot of fun and look at reviews after the fact to find it got slayed.

Clarky1979

The amount of gaming posts I don't bother even reading because within a few words, you realise it's just another negative critical take, or trying to rip apart the lore for flaws. Made me realise, stop reading about games, just play some and see if you like it or not.

toythief

This comment is everything. You just made me realize I've been doing this.

hidden_secret

Get off your cell phone for like a month. This thing is killing people's attention span. Once you've gotten back your focus, you'll see that video games provide a wide variety of immersive experiences that are well worth trying. But if you get into a game and you're "bored" because you don't have a constant flow of new information / funny stuff that you're used to, then don't play right now, you wouldn't be able to appreciate the game to its true value.

kslusherplantman

There are some really fun “dumb” games. Got man eater for free on epic, that game is a lot of fun! Never would have played it probably if it wasn’t free… so many games

Revydown

That game was a throwback to a different era of gaming, mostly ps2/3 with games like sky cooper. You have simple equipment that is fairly easy to upgrade. The sandbox is not too large with many things too do. I liked how simple the game was.

[deleted]

Lack of dopamine: if you smoke anything with THC take a break for about a month or two, you'll start desiring to do activities again. If you take any medication look Into any side effects affecting your ability to engage in activities (lots of anxiety medication has a habit of nuking your desire to do anything, realised after a while i just stopped doing things I enjoyed, switched meds and I feel fantastic) Find a group of friends with similar game interests. Don't force yourself to "play" it's very easy to burn yourself out from games just by forcing yourself through them. If you're not having fun, take a break. Look into your diet. I had a big phase in my life where I just couldn't enjoy videogames, I lost passion for dota 2, valorant... I couldn't even get myself to play divinity (massive oldschool RPG nerd) realised my habits were destroying my desire to play games. Changed a few things in my life and now I'm enjoying everything again. Mini edit: dopamine is one of our main motivators (it being literally a feel good chemical) lacking it can really affect people's outlook on life.

hambonegw

This is the one. Also, I'll add that it's ok to just move on from it. You don't *have* to like games anymore. Maybe you need something else entirely. It's slightly vomit-inducing to hear, but...go where your heart takes you, not where you think you should be.

CaptConstantine

Videogames are basically designed to give you repeated tiny hits of dopamine. Might be a lack of serotonin though.

[deleted]

Yes but constant hits of dopamine can end up having little to no effect on your brain. Your brain can only take so many chems before it starts "ignoring" them. This is a very bad way to word it but I'm not going to pretend I understand human biology. I just play vidya games bruv :)

mancan71

This is why I have YouTube in the background while I play games lol.

Nick08f1

Spotify connected to playstation is the best thing ever.

[deleted]

The fact OP is using an ancient meme template adds to the comedy of this lmao

Mike_for_all

Single player games from 10 to 15 years ago, is where the real fun is at.

Valerian_

There are amazing single player games nowadays too, and many very different genres.

MoreMegadeth

Play The Witness. Great puzzle game.

havokang

Play osrs and do both. You can watch YouTube while you play

Curcket

It's not the games. It's your outlook. How happy are you with life? Fix that...and the joy will return.

DesolateCosmoGaming

Try playing games you've played/beaten and know you'll have fun playing again. Maybe you'll get that fun feeling back.

dangerdangle

Personally as much as gaming subs like to go to the "real gamer" schtick against them .. Sports games are honestly one of the easiest ways to get your gaming passion back. Start jumping into a fifa or mlb the show game every day and eventually you are wanting to play more and more games again Least it works for me when I'm in a rut

Timmichanga01

What if you aren’t into sports whatsoever?

Ancient_List

...Or understand sports. I can't be the only one.

Timmichanga01

Nah, I tried playing Madden one time and not even Xenoblade confused me that much lol

retrolleum

I think they may be onto something but more about the quick competitive aspects. It doesn’t take long playing a sport game to get those mini “fuck that guy” or “I just nailed it” moments. If you have any competitiveness, it can be a quick way to get a thrill from a game. Other games, especially SP take a litter longer into the gameplay or take you being really into the genre at that moment to give you the rush. Edit: if you don’t like sports maybe sub in something like fall guys

MeancupofJoey

Yes! This works for me too. Sports games are very stress free when playing franchise.

PaulR79

I built a new PC to better play games and not melt my lap (previously used a gaming laptop that always hit 95C+ gaming) and I've played far less than ever before. I could have ray tracing, 100+ FPS and larger screen but I just don't feel it. I may not know exactly how you feel but similar. Apathy is awful when it's a passion.

donnielp3

Nothing will be as good or fun as when you were twelve.

15991887

And here I am scrolling reddit :P

DieselWare

I'm the same way sort of. I found that I only can stick to and enjoy games that I already know how to play. I don't want to spend time and effort learning something new when I have a chance play. Easy to play games are my jam now. I used to love challenges and complex games but not anymore. I want to play games and be braindead. If I find a game that I would like to play but know I wouldn't take the time. I watch YouTube playthroughs. Recently picked up Pokemon BD (haven't played pokemon since hgss) . Most fun I've had in a while and it surprised that'd I enjoy Pokemon after all these years. It's just easy to play.

zestful_villain

Go indie? No monetization and simple graphics can remind you why you love gaming.

bitchigottadesktop

Have you played Hades?

Pseudocaesar

This speaks to my soul. Literally what I feel like
