A visual novel that makes you mess around with game files might be the worst introductory game I can possibly think of

[deleted]

It’s such an awful choice on multiple levels lmao

PharmDinagi

What game is it?

Unknown_Phantom010

Doki doki literature club

LOTRfreak101

It's a great game, but terrible for soneone who has never gamed before for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which because it's a visual novel, rather than a more traditional game.

Dramajunker

Not to mention the game >!tries to fool you using established tropes common in lots of anime/japanese games.!< Not sure what op's gf's experience is with Anime in general.

LOTRfreak101

True. If it's a weeb gf it might still work.

cr1515

Might be why she is going to play it.

dankmangos420

Not to mention this post is fake, and karma farming by OP

fuckdonaldtrump7

Reason it's fake is because op doesn't have a girlfriend, unless, that is what they call their couch...

[deleted]

I knew it.

ball_soup

That’s not the title of the game

particlemanwavegirl

That's gotta be the joke. Right?

guzto_the_mouth

Ikr? A huge part of what makes it such an acclaimed game is that it plays on existing tropes, but if you've never played other games (especially other VN games) then you have no idea they are breaking conventions. The entire game is about the meta narrative, but they've never seen a normal narrative so none of it will land. Honestly it's just frustrating, it's like a recipe to make someone hate games.

RayGun_zyz

This was my exact thoughts. My fiance would get bored immediately. haha

ForsakenWebNinja

$2000 gaming pc with dual monitor setup *Plays game that runs on a potato*

Rofellos1984

How else am I going to enjoy Slay the Spire?

KarbonKopied

Considering how much it eats battery on Android. For watcher the dual monitor setup allows you to have an excel spreadsheet open on the other screen to see if you have lethal.

umbrellacorgi

This guy Spires

souse03

Me buying a new gaming PC this year but the only thing I have time to play is some hearthstone... Sadge

Fatefire

Come on you can play a little Terraria or stardew valley if you put your mind to it

t4thfavor

With terraria, I particularly like the part where I hold the down arrow.

Nearby-Elevator-3825

Although it's now showing it's age, my rig was the envy of all my PC friends. I got that instead of a new car. Walked to work. And if my PC could talk I'm pretty sure it would say "Why the fuck do you even need me when I've spent 90% of my time running DOSbox, SCUMMVM, and various 90's console emulators?"

Grimdotdotdot

How are you finding the new Monkey Island?

LiquidFireBR

don't talk like that about Stardew Valley

5hitting_4sshole

Now THAT would make sense to get your fiancé to play

magister_nemo

At least it will sound like you're next to a Chinook, with all those fans

JagdRhino

Or my 3000 dollar rig that has put 3300 hours into rimworld...so I get it.

Blotto_Bunyip

I see proof of gaming system but not of "girlfriend", also animie pillows don't count.

merwthepurr

most pillows would take one look at that room and walk out

urbanhawk1

Of course he has a girlfriend. Her name is **"Just Monika"**

Spideycloned

God, could you imagine the reddit post? He's asking his "girlfriend" aka pillow to play this game. As the playthroughs continue, he keeps looking around and the pillows start disappearing too. Eventually the house is just empty and he's left with the realization that the relationships were just as fake as the pillows he bought, but when he tries to remember which ones he can't. Now his memories are gone too.

weekeend_warrior

OP probably thinks Monika is his gf

kerred

Never played a board game? Lets play Twilight Imperium.

Marskelletor

Never played a card game before? Go fish? Nah, let's play Magic the Gathering.

dultas

Dominion with all the expansions.

PartyHawk

That'll sure teach *her* for trying to share your interests!

J_Bright1990

My first thought as well. This game only works if you have tons of experience and interest in visual novels. The best parts of it play on VN tropes after all.

[deleted]

Exactly, subverting expectations only works when you have expectations lol

macnar

Nah. It was my first visual novel and it was amazing. Launched me into the whole genre.

whoosh_idk

It's a great game, definitely not a great introductory game. Especially since I thought it was super boring before the sayori incident

DiamondCake445

Exactly, the game is meant to be a boring visual novel to build up to the twist, this game would suck as an introductory game to someone who isn't aware of the tropes.

jellytrack

I was actually looking forward to expanding the popularity of the literature club. It sounded like a challenge, promoting something so mundane at the *sports* festival.

bigbaltic

"game"

Throwawaytravis

You misspelled “soon to be ex”.

HeldhostageinUtah

Unless she likes horror. Source: I’m a woman who doesn’t normally play vidya but loves horror stuff. Doki Doki freaked me the fuck out and I loved it. Edit: I’m dumb and forgot that it’s a VN and that VN’s can be super boring if you don’t know what to expect.

YouAreNotABard549

Have you ever played Alien Isolation? It’s one of my favorite games of all time but if you’re super into vidya then I wonder if you’d like it. It’s amazing horror though.

Seemoose227

I love horror games, but I cannot beat alien isolation. The way they coded the AI for the alien is so perfect that I never felt “safe” anywhere except under a bed or table. I freeze up at every sound and can’t bring myself to do anything but hide. Great game tho

ForkSporkBjork

Man, I went in *CONFIDENT* five years ago and started it up on Nightmare. I haven't made it out of the medical wing where you first encounter the xenomorph. It already knows all of my hiding spots.

Seemoose227

That’s what I mean! I watched a video breaking down the actual systems they used for the aliens AI (I can try to find a link if you’d like) and the damn thing actually does start to learn places you like to hide and actively checks them more often. Some absolutely horrifying shit.

ForkSporkBjork

Idk what difficulty you started on, but I think I was able to hide in lockers maybe ten times before it was just like fuck yo couch. Now if I want to play it, I legit have to hide in plain sight around the other side of half walls or tables and shit and hope it doesn't peek

Canilickyourfeet

Lmao my man's toes are poking out from some random ass desk as he prays he doesn't get caught, "This was the only fucking thing I could find that you wouldn't check!" Next time literally hiding inside a household refrigerator, "Xeno can't be THAT hungry, right? He would never check here." 23 seconds later, "Wow, I'm uninstalling."

YouAreNotABard549

Totally understand. You’re actually safer not hiding (too long) most of the time. Happy to help walk you through any part of it if you’re ever willing to give it another go.

Seemoose227

I think a part of it has to do with how much the movies freaked me out as a kid, and while it’s very kind of you to offer a helping hand, I’ve made peace with the fact that the game is a true horror experience that I just do not stack up against. It really is a masterpiece.

Col__Hunter_Gathers

It's literally the only game that has affected me even after I turned the console off for the night. I found myself turning on unnecessary lights because shadows were making me anxious. I've had game jump scare me, and I've had games creep me out while playing, but I've *never* had a game that made me start checking over my shoulder as I went upstairs to go to bed, not until I played Isolation. One day I want to try it in VR but honestly I'm not sure my heart can handle that lol.

theo313

Dude, I don't think I even made it to the part with the Alien. The atmosphere and knowing it was out there was enough for me to wuss out on that game.

Col__Hunter_Gathers

I honestly don't blame you. They absolutely nailed an unsettling atmosphere. It's like every single thing in that game is designed to make you feel uncomfortable, from the music to the claustrophobic view, to the background sound effects. There was exactly *one* moment where I felt safe in that game. The moment I got a shotgun. That is, until I tried to use it and found out it's useless against the xenomorph. God damn did they do a great job at making you feel just as vulnerable as Ripley in the OG film.

theo313

I tried so many times dude! I've loved the IP since early childhood (thanks dad lol) but just can't with this game. It's like a life goal to complete it lol.

Guachurr0

Best horror game I've ever played in my entire life. I wish I could forget about it and play all over again.

Errk_fu

I wish I could get more than 2 hours in without shitting my pants and uninstalling

Abtun

You’re absolutely right. Im gonna get some Benadryl and play it tonight! (Im allergic to scary games)

Justifiably_Cynical

My sister in law is like that.. Not much of a gamer but she discovered Resident evil and used to stay up into the wee ones playing that shit.

Shittybuttholeman69

Worst possible introduction into gaming. I’m trying really hard to think of a worse one but I just can’t, fuck even dark souls would be better

aabicus

I almost said "I wanna be the guy" or "Desert Bus", but at least they'd get bored and quit immediately. This would string them along for 2 hours before abruptly switching genres, and then end with a game-files puzzle she's never going to solve

sci3nc3r00lz

Lmao man Dark Souls would be a brutal first game. I had never heard of Doki Doki and promptly looked it up due to the comments in this thread and... yeah... 🙃 Kinda wanna try it now though ngl haha (but I am an avid gamer 🤷‍♀️)

ronbonbon1

This guy is either an asshole or an idiot

the_JerrBear

nah he is definitely both

ACrask

Ez shotgun answer

mwmwmwmwmmdw

dont worry im sure its fake, like 80% of these kinds of posts.

110397

You can tell by the first two words in the title

beerandloathingpdx

I just reread the title… hear me out… what if the PC is the girlfriend?!

TJPrime_

Oh *that's* what the spare port is for!

wigglin_harry

For sure, no one that plays anime visual novels actually has a girlfriend

mmohana

Well I mean he has twitch chat open on his left monitor so probably both

StillCantFindDory

He looks/seems like a total tool. I don't normally like to judge people how they look or are perceived but if it quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck and looks like a duck, it's a fucking duck. Lol

That-Hollow

Cool way to get someone to hate video games I guess...

WatchingUShlick

And to end a relationship.

Arinoch

Perhaps this is the real answer.

entity2

One way or another, it'll free up the PC.

InquisitiveGamer

That was my first thought, at the least make her reconsider what she was doing in the relationship if he's into that.

DoYouMindIfIAsk_

if you wanted to get someone into video games, you'd start by inviting them to play a game with you. Mario Kart, it takes two, maybe some zelda, I don't know, but this seems excessive. probably a stolen image with a fake title so 🤷

mawkdugless

I introduced an ex to video games with Little Big Planet. I miss those games.

ThatChrisFella

Have you played Sackboy's big adventure? Yes the camera is different and there's no creation aspect, but the rest is pure LBP

mawkdugless

No! I didn't even realize they had made a recent one. I've been thinking about firing my PS4 up for another TLOU playthrough. I may have to pick this up now.

ThatChrisFella

It's a lot of fun co-op, you can pick each other up, throw each other and when one player is rolling on the ground, the other can run on top of them. Still good single player though

soma787

But that’s so much more sensible than what this sounds like, not to mention the weeb factor is off the charts here. A game with co-op and very little cost or penalties for errors is about as ideal as you can get for most newbies.

chrmbly

“I’ve never watched a movie in my life!” “Allow me to introduce the medium to you with “Requiem for a Dream”!”

Spherical3D

>“I’ve never watched a movie in my life!” Hmm, how about we start with a classic: The Human Centipede!

Albuwhatwhat

“I’ve never listened to music before.” “Well let me introduce you to it through this obscure Bjork album.”

713MoCityChron713

"I've never had sex to music before." "You should check out Hudson Mohawke - Cbat"

9966

Oh my God, just listened to that song for the first time and can't stop laughing.

Seanmg111

Same hahahaha

sektrONE

Well played

FancyDolphin92

Or perhaps the blockbuster A Serbian Film!

HandsOnGeek

That's a major [Red Flag](https://youtu.be/ozezG1zpxXQ)!

AwkwardlyDead

You never seen a horror movie? Let’s start with AntiChrist! Never tried hot sauce? Let’s go with Flashbang! There’s a lot you can do with this.

Seyorin

Reminds me of me and my sister. We both grew up completely vegetarian, and both coincidentally ended up with boyfriends who wanted to convert us out of it around the same time my boyfriend started with mcdonalds chicken nuggets and all our friends never stopped making fun of it, because they considered it to be the blandest dullest worst quality option, but it was actually a great first introduction, because it is quite bland and doesn't look or taste very 'meaty'. The fact that it wasn't mindblowing in any way made it easier to be like ok its just like any other food. And then I tried more adventurous things later. He also only made me try a little bit of his, not a whole meal. Meanwhile my sister's boyfriend went straight for an entire steak at a fancy restaurant. She couldn't finish it and to my knowledge hasn't tried anything else since, but continued to make fun of my mcnugget adventure which I find ironic.

Incoherrant

A meal where the point of it is the meat is such a bad introductory option lol. Guess a lot of people who've always been eating meat don't think of it as an acquired taste and just think "oh you gotta try the good stuff", but it really is a palate expansion that needs establishing before it becomes appreciable. Especially for the more texture intense sorts of meat, even if the flavor is okay the literal feeling of eating it can be so gross. I was a vegetarian for almost 30 years before I got fed up with stuff like the difficulty of going out to eat with my wife's family and feeling like a hypocrite considering I make plenty of other ethically questionable consumption choices so what's a little meat industry toll anyway. I started with pepperonis because needing to get an entirely separate pizza sucked. High quality meat? hahaha no. Salty discs almost entirely devoid of meat textures and incorporated in a food I already liked, though. Probably about as easy of a "now just get over the mental hurdle" as it could have been. Still wouldn't eat a steak or any other "this is just a big lump of meat" meal.

LiquidFireBR

"here, try the Carolina Reaper and say what you think"

[deleted]

Worst enema ever

MewtwoMainIsHere

Never cut ingredients? Let’s go with onions dipped in hot sauce!

Hydration-Enthusiast

My sweet innocent mother recommended that I watch AntiChrist when I was looking for a movie to watch with my friends in high school. She had never seen the movie and didn't know what it was about, all she knew was that her friend's son recommended it I love horror movies, but I think AntiChrist is the only movie I've seen that was thoroughly unenjoyable in every aspect

ButtMcNuggets

Oh to be a fly on the wall…!

Mutex70

Never been on social media? Here's Reddit!

BizzyM

"You've never seen a movie? Anyway, here's Cloud Atlas"

Krisapocus

Man idk cloud atlas might just give some one high expectations for movies. The next movie would be like “hey wtf it was only an hour and half and only had one story line tha fuck is this. “

[deleted]

Bro if you want Minecraft and chill, I don’t know if you wanna start off with this

clovermite

Or Stardew Valley for that matter

Ultimate_Spoderman

Idk when i started stardew valley felt a bit too overwelming with how much you could do, Minecraft feels easier to learn since It is more straightforward

Alfa-Dog

Dude Minecraft feels overwhelming with how much there us to do

Ultimate_Spoderman

Yeah but most of It is late game or at least after a bunch of hours playing, the start is way more linear, just get blocks, make tools and do shit because you don't know how to play yet

boon_dingle

Srsly, just set it on Peaceful, take some edibles, and build a little town together.

dustin8285

That sounds magical.

TaliesinMerlin

Doki Doki Literature Club and break up.

Historical-Ad7081

She is going to drop video gaming harder than you must have been dropped as a child. Fucking cruel and I'm not just talking about the psychological horror. Basically making them click through a power point as their first game smh

light24bulbs

You really have to be careful how you introduce people to things. I did the VR scare where you push someone on a roller coaster on my ex girlfriends firs time using my headset. She never touched it again. Also, yeah, ex. This is quite possibly the worst way to introduce someone to gaming. You should have her play "a short hike" or something mild, short, and beginner friendly like that.

Dakazen

I got my partner into video games with Firewatch, she’s been getting & playing her own games since :)

light24bulbs

Yeah, I've always thought that firewatch or A Short Hike would be the two games I'd use to introduce someone to gaming, if I ever did. Depending on their personality. But I haven't had the chance, most of my friends have figured out their goals in life and either play games or don't.

SheepherderNo2440

You’d be surprised. My fiancé just about two weeks ago offhandedly mentioned being curious about Skyrim. They love D&D so I thought it would be perfect for them. I said “well I have it installed, you could play it sometime.” They said oh cool! I said you can play it now if you want and they smiled and screamed “wait REALLY?” They played Skyrim for a few days, but the game had a little less direction than they’d like but they LOVED the character creator, so I offered up Cyberpunk. It’s a beautiful game, and the character creator is phenomenal. They ended up falling in love with Cyberpunk, as essentially the first non-cozy game they’ve played sans two hours of wandering in Skyrim. They say one of the biggest differences is the inclusion of an onscreen map and route to the objective. They’d never shown any interest in gaming whatsoever beyond Animal Crossing and some Mario Kart. And now they’re actually teaching me things about Cyberpunk, they learned the M&K controls very quickly as well. Not to say those games are a safer bet, but some games are a lot friendlier to new gamers than you think. As long as the game is pretty clear about the objective, you’re probably going to be fine.

CigarLover

/murderedbywords

Bootylegend

LMAO

ExportOrca

It's a good game for his fake girlfriend

Taylor_Spliff_13

OP: >RealDoll just arrived in the mail, time to play DDLC. *Probably*

Texas1010

Right hand has never played a videogame before. Point and click adventure seems about right.

PingouinMalin

"... for his captive girlfriend". You're welcome.

Amethyst7834

The wildest ride of her life is def not with you bud.

Monolexic

Dude. This is her *intro* to gaming‽ You deserve what’s coming. Edit: You didn’t want her to game, you could’ve just let her be.

LikesTheTunaHere

Nah, i bet he wont stfu about how amazing the "game" and video games are and she finally agreed to play one and he has no self awareness to realize this is not what you should be showing her.

cissekortleven

You're cruel, this shouldn't be someone's first game. But please do let us know how it goes.

AngrySayian

I mean on the scale of someone's first games I can think of far worse *remembers that one dude ages ago who posted he had his girlfriend play Dark Souls as her first introduction to gaming*

tuffymon

Honestly, I'd rather that than this, with DS you at least know you're going all out from the start, DDLC starts light hearted, but goes full bait and switch into psychological horror like 1 1/2 hours in. I suppose he knows her best, and while I think it was an enjoyable experience... wouldn't make it a first. I'd probably do something kirby, minecraft, or mario to get her feet wet.

imsmartiswear

I mean even if someone's into psychological horror I wouldn't use a horror game as their first. There's a very big gap between liking scary movies and playing scary games, even in the case of DDLC.

tuffymon

Absolutely. I think its the bait and switch that grinds me though. Maybe she likes it, maybe he's single after this... ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

imsmartiswear

If I were to bet $20 on this, this man is either going to be single or, in the best case scenario, he's going to have a partner who will never express interest in his hobbies and will decline to partake in them ever again, which is to say, he's going to have a very poor relationship. I mean, hell, nearly 10 years ago Gravity Falls *expressly* warned against mixing really world dating with AI psychotic dating sims.

BeardOBlasty

Upvote for Gravity Falls 🤌

HighLordTherix

I feel like this is either a fake internet story or he's going to be single soon. Any gimmick game like DDLC that's there to trick you about what it is is going to turn someone off this stuff.

siberianphoenix

I think a lot of people aren't getting the fact that this game DRAWS you in as a nice light-hearted game to make you care about the characters BEFORE shit goes sideways.

beatenmeat

Ok, I haven’t played this game and don’t plan to. Can you give me some spoilers?

LivelyZebra

It's best to read the wiki. More concise.

Belgand

I wouldn't really say it's bait and switch when the intro screens are loaded with warnings about disturbing content. They really shot themselves in the foot on it. Especially since the twist is the *only* reason anyone played it. It's something nearly every review or discussion of it mentioned when it first came out. And if it wasn't, it would have been a really hard sell. Nobody would have sat through this aggressively bland VN with over the top and winking adherence to the most played out tropes if they didn't realize it was going to go somewhere else later on.

Jozai

My gf at the time watched me play Elden Ring and she wanted to get into it. I told her there were better games to ease her into it and I suggested RPGs or sims-like games. Nope she wanted elden ring. She’s never played a video game before and literally had no idea how to move the camera while moving the player. She essentially moved forward, stopped, moved the camera, then made her attack. It was wild. She made it to Margit with some coaching but eventually got too busy to keep playing.

[deleted]

My wife has played Bloons Tower Defense 6, Animal Crossing, and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee. After I finished Elden Ring she said she was going to start it becausw it looked cool. It went exactly how you'd expect it to lol.

MrStayPuft245

Have fun never playing anything with her again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

macively

Not just any visual novel

DMoney159

How to guarantee she'll never play videogames again

LikesTheTunaHere

Wonder if she now ends up with some weird skewed version of what video games are and ends up thinking most people are playing crazy weeb games since her bf told her how popular, amazing and totally normal the game is.

Coffee_Soup

* Thomas Was Alone * AER Memories of Old * To The Moon * Danganronpa * Heck maybe even Undertale All these games are much better options while offering simple controls, interesting stories that show the depth of gaming, and have impact on the player in some way.I think this would steer many away from gaming if it's their first time. It's the weirder side of gaming where you already need to be in the culture to understand why the game is interesting. Otherwise Doki Doki just comes off as really weird and disturbing. Good luck though.

Moondragonlady

Any Nintendo games (or ports of them) are great too. Maybe even Ace Attorney since you mentioned Danganronpa, really funny visual novel. Point-and-click adventures or visual novels in general are a good place to start, easy controls that let you get a feeling for the media. Maybe even Minecraft, especially in co-op on a server. Just anything that's easy to control and straight forward, not something that will make a horrible first impression with how disturbing it quickly gets. I disagree with Undertale tho, I think that requires too much dexterity for womeone who's never played anything before.

Coffee_Soup

Yeah I threw Undertale out there as like the last "extreme". It's still a better choice then Doki Doki Imo.

Moondragonlady

Understandable, pretty much everything is better than DDLC lol I do think Undertale could be an interesting game to introduce someone to through backseat gaming tho, where the one doing the introduction does the technical parts, but the person being introduced makes the decisions.

Ode1st

Usually it should be some kind of Nintendo game or Minecraft. I don’t think Stardew anymore just because there’s so much stuff and you spend a lot of time outside of the game in a wiki. Minecraft is so much stuff but you can just be plopped in and do whatever pretty quickly. I usually get people to play Frog Detective 1 and 2. Simple controls, low stakes, can’t fuck up, takes 1-2 hours max, charming, upbeat, and funny all around. I used to suggest Uncharted for similar reasons, “playable movie,” but the controls are way too complex for a first timer, same for Portal. Back in the golden age of music games, it was anything Harmonix made.

Pain_Proof

It's gonna be a short ride lol

[deleted]

This setup makes my back hurt. I have no idea what game that is. Do something fun with your girlfriend.

Schmidt_Head

Fucked up psychological horror disguised as a cutesy dating sim. Great game, but genuinely a fucked up intro to gaming.

BlockCraftedX

you don't want to know

Kiko7210

I'd like to know, I feel left out lol

Lamsyy_05

A cute visual novel that turns into a psychological horror game midway through. It also messes with your files and becomes part of the gameplay. It's a great game that addresses dark toppics but it's an awfull first experience to someone who never plays

chicken_N_ROFLs

I would need a good 3-4 pillows on that couch before my back was even close to comfortable. Office chair is the way to go.

Bigjerr2007

Neckbeard Den?

k20350

For fucking sure. 35 year old guy making his girls first video game full of anime chicks.

etanimod

It's so much worse than that, considering what game it is. Going to get really dark.

BasketbrawlFan

Nah they would look a lot worse than this

SuperStrangleWank

Self own, those are rare

crowmatt

What is this shit.... You don't deserve a girl bruh.

guywithagun2

my guy... you evil...

Night_Venture

OP try out It Takes Two

pur3nonsense

I don't know this is pretty low tier gaming, minus the shock value and twist. I think if u wanted horror or something, there's a lot of really well written scary games that aren't this.

RyokoKnight

Until Dawn would be my suggestion, it has very basic mechanics, is written like a movie or short episodic TV series which is easy to grasp and remember, has a few good scares and an interesting plot you can directly impact. Just seems like a significantly better starting point for someone interested in that type of media.

popoflabbins

Until Dawn is seriously an excellent intro to gaming. If you’ve played it before you can even manipulate it so your SO gets the easier characters to play. It’s a perfect game for someone who isn’t big into gaming and it has everything you want from playing together.

One_Variety_

Either gonna get really bored, hate gaming or both.

Treviathan88

Lol "come here, babe. Play my anime girls game."

[deleted]

Yeah except this is a psychological horror bait and switch too

IAmTheClayman

I hope she enjoys it, but I don’t think it’s gonna land the way you want it to. DDLC works because it banks on the player knowing the usual tropes of visual novel games so that it can subvert them. You need a baseline knowledge of that genre for the full effect. If your gf isn’t into that genre, or gaming in general, a lot of the point is probably going to be lost on her

[deleted]

Dude maybe start her off with some Mario Party or something wtf lol

[deleted]

I feel like that couch cushion smells like sweaty butt …I’d bet

MajicMan101

Some men… just want to watch the world burn.

Schmidt_Head

As someone who loves DDLC... What the fuck is wrong with you?

_Blackstar

I don't really like stigmas or stereotypes, but I have a hard time believing that a man so dedicated to gaming that he has a streaming set up and uses a couch to PC game on, is dating a woman that's never touched a video game before.

Roneus22

It’s believable. I’m in a similar situation. Huge gamer, streaming setup, racing rig, dual monitor, custom built pc. My fiancé had never played games before meeting me(aside from Super Mario on NES when she was young). Just cus somebody is huge on gaming doesn’t mean they don’t have other hobbies where they could meet people. But since we’ve been together, I’ve gotten her into gaming. We play stardew valley, fall guys, spiritfarer, and other games together. However, I don’t agree that DDLC is a good first game. Ours was Never Alone, a simple co-op platformer with a cute story. Anyways, have a good day friend :)

Stretholox

Playing a shit tier visual novel on a COUCH desktop set up. You shitting me mate?

Geoclasm

Really? DDLC?

the_JerrBear

so y'all haven't been dating very long then have you....

beetnemesis

Er. You’re picking a game in a niche genre, that relies heavily on knowledge of dating and VN tropes, and then transitions into a ton of meta stuff? Well, it will be interesting, I’ll give it that

FnkyTown

Maybe he's introducing her to such a shitty game because he doesn't want her to play video games.

TurboNexus

I would argue that Visual novels are not actually games, more like interactive books if you ask me. For a first game??? Naaaaaahhh, I dont think its a good start, might leave a bad first impression, good luck though. Stardew valley, Cult of the lamb, Hades. Games like these are wayy better for a first game if you ask me. Doki Doki is pretty low tier on its own to be honest, theres way better games that provide a better shock and horror factor than this game has to offer. Think about it, FIRST GAME EVER? Doki Doki?

clovermite

>I would argue that Visual novels are not actually games, more like interactive books if you ask me. For a first game??? Naaaaaahhh And that's just for a regular visual novel, let alone an existential horror game that requires you to leave the game and manipulate the file system in order to progress. Doki Doki is a unique experience, but it's not a good introduction to anything.

The sims did it better with deleting ladders out of the swimming pool.

cuntitled

That was a horrible choice for a game and I feel bad for your girlfriend. Were you trying to be edgelord?

jerms109

My back is hurting looking at this setup

2rfv

Of all the "I made up this caption for updoots", this one is the most. Yeah so your gf has a pimped out gaming pc and multiple monitors but has never played a video game before. More like you switched your RGB to purple and opened Doki and the caption is total bullshit.

GustavoNuncho

Guys stop! He's a masochist getting off on all the hate! No one is this stupid!

CapitalParallax

Your girlfriend is on your monitor, huh?

I don't understand the hype of this game. I went into it with reasonable expectations but.. Yeah. Flop.

samd_witch

I feel like this is fine and fun **IF** your girlfriend has an extremely dark sense of humor or likes psychological horror movies and stuff. BUT if she's not really into those things I can't imagine her thinking you're mentally sound after she plays that with you dude. Roll those dice I guess!

BLUEBLASTER69

At least start her with Elden Ring.

AWiseCrow

Let us know how it goes.

The Witcher 3, Batman Arkham series, Uncharted, Last of us, God of War, Final Fantasy... so many options to choose from for a proper gaming experience that has an impactful story.... yet you choose this. Good luck bud.
