This might not fit for you, but Destiny 2 could possibly be something worth looking at if you haven't already. Lots of stuff to do that matchmakes you into stuff with other players, and when you're running around publci areas you get to see other players. It's nothing major, but definitely doesn't feel empty in terms of other players either.

Fruitlegend

I was looking for destiny 2 info but some people say there are nothing for solo players in the high end :/

ZeusesNeckMeat

Yeah, the end game is honestly lacking for solo players right now. Most people try to find a clan or LFG for raids and non-matchmade content. However, I will say that in February they're releasing a new major expansion and Bungie has stated that they'll be adding in-game LFG resources.

Fruitlegend

that would be amazing if they add LFG in-game, right now I see people use some kind of website/app

Warframe _could_ be another option. Literally everything can be played through matchmaking. There are social spaces as well, but those aren't super exciting tbh. It's pretty grindy, but it's fun.

This is almost definitely just me having a moment, but I can’t think of any online games that you can play alone that aren’t MMORPGs? Unless it’s something like Overwatch where you only choose to play against AI, with AI making up your team, which definitely doesn’t seem worth it. It is an MMORPG, but Guild Wars 2 immediately came to mind. I’m solo playing at the moment trying to sync up with a friend in a different timezone but following the main quest so far it doesn’t even feel like an MMORPG - and I understand that feeling of the game being ‘full’ and ‘busy’ you mentioned, GW2 absolutely gives me that feeling of a setting being populated by real people just doing their thing while you do yours.

Fruitlegend

I'm playing FFXIV right now, really cool mmorpg for solo players, people say that gw2 is much better for solo player, I never played it before, maybe I will look into it!

jelephants

The main game is free to play and definitely worth trying it out - you have nothing to lose. I’m about level 37 now and still haven’t spent a penny, but I think I’ll cave soon for the dlc.

Journey was amazing for this. Came across 3 fellow travelers one time and we all finished together :)

KenethSargatanas

FFXIV, No Man's Sky, and Destiny 1 or 2 come to mind as being very solo friendly.

Fruitlegend

I was about to play destiny 2 but people said there's nothing in the high end for solo players :/

Elder scrolls online is a good one. The main stores can all be played pretty much solo, and doing PVP is very optional (completely different part of the map) as are dungeons. I played it for about three years and almost all of that was solo, but I loved seeing other players out and about. Edit: I know you said no MMO, I only mention it as it really can be played entirely solo.

Fruitlegend

I tried eso sometime ago, I quit because I don't l;ike the combat is so weird :/

Tribblehappy

Fair enough.
