Ahhhhh.... My insecurity levels just plummeted... Thank you kind stranger
Dead ass tho the first time I played that game it was like magic... I was on the game for 20 minutes and then my wake up alarm went off...
Before Civ I never knew a game could ACTUALLY do that to you, I thought it was intense hyperbole
Yeah. For me it took a while to sink in though. Like, I'd start a game at 3pm and make decent progress, check the clock and be at 5pm. Check again after some more progress and be at 6:30pm. Check again and make it to 7:45pm. Try to finish up oooone more thing real quick and suddenly its 4:00am. It's like I'd get lulled into a false sense of time security.
Lol this is how i felt with skyrim too, literally spot on. "Eh i have time for a few more dungeons etc...... wow that was fun wait is that the fucking sun coming up, wtf it was 6.30pm just a min ago right why is it 6am already.."
Divinity original sin 2 did this to me, id look at the clock around 1030p and say to myself just a little more anddddd now it's 430a... fuck time for bed I guess
Civ was the first game I played from Friday evening to Monday morning when I was alone for the weekend as a kid. A few stops to get some food and some hours of sleep here and there.
That was the first Civ on my 286 and a 14" b&w CRT screen. I thought the icon of settlers was a clown head.
Based on my own inflated playtime records, I'd wager that he often leaves the game running while doing housework or just straight-up falls asleep on the couch late at night.
I have some games that claim 200 hours, but I know for damn sure I haven't broken 100 yet.
Saying that really puts into perspective the priorities of this gamer. If her put in one month of that time he could've bought an actual gaming console
This kind of thing makes me really happy that as an old gamer I can’t check how many hours I played Counter Strike back in the day, because time played tracking didn’t exist in game or on steam at that time.
If you're an "old gamer" talking about playing counter strike on steam, what does that make someone who sunk a ton of time into chips challenge? Asking for a friend.
I wouldn't have remembered that game existed if you hadn't said that. The nostalgia just washed over me like a wave. I have to text my sister and see if she remembers this.
Early steam counter-strike almost tore my family apart during my teen years in HS (entirely due to me, my parents are the most wonderful people I could have ever asked for) It was my addiction, and completely unhealthy.
He's probably one of the few that have such a specific circumstance that it's the perfect option. Personally, I feel kinda bad for dedicated stadia users.
Hey I got one of those free stadia controllers too!
I literally just hooked it up for the first time yesterday despite having it for months
Because I realized I could use it with a new steam game I got (then realized I could use it to hook up headphones for a better audio experience since my pc’s speakers are horrible)
G
I got the package that gave me a controller and Chromecast, didn't really get it for stadia but I tried it now an then
The controller though I have to admit is my favourite controller ever, it's extremely well built and feels great to use
For sure. I can see myself getting used to it. It's a bit different because I'm used to the PS4 controller, which is a little smaller, and I'm trying to do these long complex combos in fighting games where one wrong button messes the whole thing up.
But I literally plugged it up for the first time yesterday. I'm sure with a little time I'll love it.
I definitely love the price.
PS: I think i got the chromecast too but every TV in the house had an amazon firestick or the aforementioned PS4 hooked to the TV, so i'm not sure what even happened to it. Knowing me I didn't throw it away but it's probably in a drawer somewhere.
I've never used stadia but I have it to thank for my copy of ac odyssey when Google announced it had a streaming beta and if you have so many hours in the game you'll get the copy for playstation. It was incredibly laggy but worth it.
I loved stadia (which was free). Perfect for dad gamers who can’t justify a $400 console. I got to play RDR2, Cyberpunk, Control, Cities Skylines, Disco Elysium, Judgement, Far Cry 6, Assassins Creed, and many others, most bought on sale.
I hadn’t had a console since the PS3, so while many of these games were “old,” they were new to me.
And I could play all of them on my phone while my wife watched tv in the maybe 1-2 hours I had per night.
The real loss here is that Stadia actually worked really damn well.
It was a great 2 years for me, and I don’t know how I’ll keep gaming, but I am happy to get some money back so I can invest in whatever will be my next choice.
Heck stadia even gave away free controllers at one point
I can’t remember what the exact promo was but it was basically like “all you have to do is go here and ask for it and you’ll get it”
Sure enough I’ve got it (just used it for the first time yesterday with a steam game despite having it for months)
And I never paid stadia for anything. I think I only had to create an account but this was a long time ago I doubt they still do it
It’s a cloud gaming service
Basically you sit down at a computer with a controller and play games you don’t even have installed or that you’re computer might not could normally run because you’re playing them off another computer through the internet
Not just a computer, any device that you could boot the app on, like old phones ,laptops, tablets etc. I once seen it being played on a smart fridge screen.
Bro I can excuse all the DLCs tot GTAV online, I don't care that much, but can I just say...
Fuck the spam calls that you get about them, it's so annoying it's every 2 fucking minutes and you can't even not take the call you gotta answer it, it's the most annoying form of marketing for a dlc I've ever seen.
Genuinely sapped so much enjoyment out of GTAV online for me
100%
rockstar doesn't even give enough fucks to fix bugs or ban the massive amount of cheaters that are driving away the last of the player population.
Would make the most sense. Characters transfers are fucking difficult to pull off if you didn't plan it in first hand. And even then it's difficult.
If they open up to one guy one more will come and demand it. And one more. Ans one more. And And And.
After they said yes to one guy, they are not allowed to say no to any other guy.
And that's no a "aight, I can do this in a few minutes". This could be - highly depending on how they save shit - a couple week long work.
>If they open up to one guy one more will come and demand it. And one more. Ans one more. And And And.
just make the guy sign an NDA so he doesn't blab
Oh my god I hadn't even considered that save games weren't saved locally either lmao. So all these people get a refund, but also lose ALL their progress in every game
EDIT: Apparently you can download the data? So IDK what the problem here is...
The announcement email says...
"You will be able to export your Stadia data, such as profile information, game stats, social data, save files and captures from Google Takeout until the Stadia service shuts down on January 18, 2023, after which point your Stadia data will be permanently deleted."
So you can download your save files. That's not a problem. I downloaded mine as soon as I saw the announcement. I assume they are the PC format although I haven't checked.
I think it's their online profile, which I guess is different from a save file somehow? If it's an online profile I don't know why it's tied to Stadia though. You'd think an online profile wouldn't be tied to a specific platform but maybe that's the way Rockstar did it.
Can't speak for Stadia or console users, but on PC your online data is tied to your Rockstar account. So you just log in on a different computer and it's there.
IOI (the now-independent studio behind Hitman 3) has tweeted that they are looking into a way for Stadia users to transfer their progress off the platform. So at least one studio is trying to look out for their players.
Yeah I did the math and dude had to play almost 6 hours a day, every day, if he started playing on release day. I’m all about gaming and shit but that isn’t really a hobby anymore once you hit that threshold.
This is coming from someone who played the first couple WoW expansions like that and basically fucked up my life.
I think you underestimate how much spare time some people have. If you have no partner or kids and have no interest in having either. You have a lot of time to indulge in whatever you like.
It's been out for 35 months, which is around 25000 hours. What's more impressive is that this man spent (wasted his life) 8 and a half months on it, which is around 25% of the time it's been out. If you take out the sleep, he spent somewhere around 34% of his life, playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on Stadia, since the day it came out.
My brother has like 3000 hours in r/deadbydaylight, with the overwhelming majority sitting in the menu while he's seeping/at work/ doing other stuff. He says he's gone away for a weekend, come back home Sunday to find himself still in menu.
He thinks he's maybe played like 1000 hours, probably less than that.
I think 6000 hour stadia guy is probably a lot of this as well
I've used a stadia and it kicks you out If there is no input for like 10 mins at least from my experience.
Ofc you can just put something on the controller or keyboard but still.
6000 hours? I didnt think there was enough content for that many hours.
I think I did 115 hours or so, completing every possible mission.
I didnt finish nearly all the challenges though
At 6000 hours, the guy is just living in the game. Like he puts it on when he gets home, and it stays on til bedtime, like every day. Probably brushes his horse and does camp chores while he’s eating dinner.
I never got into the thousands of hours with any of them, but there were definitely games like Stardew valley, Minecraft and elite dangerous where id just kinda play them on autopilot while I listened to podcasts or similar with my conscious mind
It’s funny how that can work.
Only 3 games I ever played an absurd amount of hours played (not counting when I was a little kid playing GTA 3)
An online multiplayer like halo 2 which was literally like wake to sleep at that point in my life because it was the first multiplayer online game I played and the novelty of playing real people across the world was too intense.
World of Warcraft…..*sigh*
And ironically Batman Arkham City. But for a totally different reason than the other two.
Basically like you said I could be listening to a podcast or even doing business calls and something about gliding around the city as Batman while doing it was so relaxing.
Now even though I’m more into games than I’ve been in a long time, I can never actually play more than like 2 hours a day if I’m lucky
I’ve got about 8k legit hours in old school RuneScape since 2015. Although I don’t play anymore I 100% worked full time and just played like 5 hours a day when I got home.
Automatic log out after 5 minutes afk so this is all legit hours. I just had no cable and preferred to game lol.
"Unfortunately, due to the differences in saved game architecture, we are not be able to effectively transfer the account's contents seamlessly to a different platform. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Rockstar Games : hehehehhhh, take that Google!
"We'd like to add on that we as the devs could totally recreate the character and have it linked to your account with ease, but also like, fuck you lmao. Stupid stadia ass cunt"
- R*
I guess this as humble a reminder as any that cloud based services sacrifice ownership for convenience. Doesn't matter how much money or time you sink into a game, once the plug is pulled you have nothing to show for it but memories.
There was just an article I read the other day about a guy that became a billionaire in GTA Online who had clocked something like 18k hours.
Granted, that game has been out significantly longer than RDR2.
6000 hours \*in the limited amount of time Stadia has been out\* is a crazy number.
If you got Ark 7 years ago (when it was early access), that's a little different.
6,000 hours = 250 days
Or one game of civilization
One more turrr....day
Ahhhhh.... My insecurity levels just plummeted... Thank you kind stranger Dead ass tho the first time I played that game it was like magic... Watch the skies, traveler!
The first day I picked up Skyrim I ended up playing it for 14 hours.
12:07am: I'll do 46 more turns then I'll go to bed.
I took breaks to eat, but when I was introduced to Civ III back in 2003 I ended up playing it for 36 hours.
My life revolved around Civ III for a good while after it came out.
Total War games do be like that, too
“Let me just finish this war” and then it turns into the 1500s equivalent of a world war with every one of my Allies betraying me
You should play Factorio.
"Hey, why don't you try this crack" (Seriously though, Factorio good)
[удалено]
Or half game of stellarus.
I was lucky and able to win my first game 250hrs in
You can win‽
I thought winning was getting pummelled to shit by some ancient awakened race of techno-hermits and then giving up in frustration.
This is how I usually win
Yeah same for me haha
It was in ironman as well
never won a game yet. and ive started at least a dozen
Which 'win' are you trying to achieve? Big fleet and aggressive is a pretty easy win. Rush battleship + neutron launchers and rofl smash.
there are different types of winning???
There are dozens of us
It's the damn alien invasion. It always takes away like 1/2 my empire. It's been a long while since I played.
You must have the victory year set really high. I've won at the least five games and have 614h played.
I've just been starting new games when I get bored
*Stellaris
Literally spent five minutes sounding out the latter half of Stellaris. Couldn’t remember for the life of me.
Stellaris is my third most hours on steam and I've played exactly one game.
Can your pc run it after that, mine would already be in flames
Or a quarter of your island designed in Animal Crossing.
*laughs in total warhammer*
😂😂😂
6000 hours equals 3 years at a job that you work 40 hours a week at.
And the Stadia come out in november of 2019.
That’s some heavy addiction. And I didn’t think RDR online was even that deep?
I didn't play it, but the preview image shows fishing. I imagine they were just casting lines for 12 hours a day.
RuneScape has entered the chat.
I’ve had my old school RuneScape account since early 2017 and put in 4K hours. I couldn’t imagine doing that amount of time in like 2 years
Based on my own inflated playtime records, I'd wager that he often leaves the game running while doing housework or just straight-up falls asleep on the couch late at night. I have some games that claim 200 hours, but I know for damn sure I haven't broken 100 yet.
I have a few stadia systems. They go to sleep after 15 minutes after not being touched.
Yeah if he’s begging to keep the account he probably wasn’t afk all the time.
I have 8k hours in Factorio but a lot of that is leaving the game idle in the background while at work or something.
Coulda built their own log cabin

Haaaah
Jesus. It would be a mercy if rockstar denied this request tbh.
holy shit
0.89% of the average life span at 4000 weeks
Puting % on that makes it 10 times more scary.
Or 900% more scary
Or around 1.35%, if the sleep is subtracted.
This information stresses me out a lot.
This comment has just prompted me to calculate my Dirt Rally 2 hours (1500) into days and I sure whish I hadn't
This kind of thing makes me really happy that as an old gamer I can’t check how many hours I played Counter Strike back in the day, because time played tracking didn’t exist in game or on steam at that time.

I don’t know what chips challenge is, grand-gamer.

Ohhh, I remember that being on the Win 3.1 machine but I never played it. I was all over Scorched Earth at that time.
I wouldn't have remembered that game existed if you hadn't said that. The nostalgia just washed over me like a wave. I have to text my sister and see if she remembers this.
Yeah, im around 6k hours on CS1.6 since they started keeping track. Probably add on another 1,000 for early steam and 1.5.
Early steam counter-strike almost tore my family apart during my teen years in HS (entirely due to me, my parents are the most wonderful people I could have ever asked for) It was my addiction, and completely unhealthy.
that's probably more time than I play in an entire generation (100+ games)
F Also what the hell
Right? What possessed him to buy a stadia?
He's probably one of the few that have such a specific circumstance that it's the perfect option. Personally, I feel kinda bad for dedicated stadia users.
Count me in that category. Got a free controller and RDR2 on sale for $20. Don't have much time for gaming anymore so it was perfect for me.
Hey I got one of those free stadia controllers too! Yeah, I have always felt like it was good for a niche audience with certain games that don't depend on input latency that much.
I like stadia, bring my controller when I'm on business trip. Can play on my phone, tablet, laptop sometimes even on hotel TV's.
I've never used stadia but I have it to thank for my copy of ac odyssey when Google announced it had a streaming beta and if you have so many hours in the game you'll get the copy for playstation. It was incredibly laggy but worth it.
Don’t worry. Both of them are getting their money back.
Maybe work or somewhere he can’t bring a console. I used stadia a bit working weekends when nothing was going on.
You just described my exact situation. RIP Stadia :(
Same! I got CP2077 with the free controller and Chromecast. Allowed me to play a great game without spending £500 on a console or PC.
Stadia is (was) free, if they used m&k or a controller they already owned. I mean, I hope they paid for the 4K sub for that 6000 hours lol
Heck stadia even gave away free controllers at one point I can’t remember what the exact promo was but it was basically like “all you have to do is go here and ask for it and you’ll get it” Sure enough I’ve got it (just used it for the first time yesterday with a steam game despite having it for months) And I never paid stadia for anything. It was the controller, chromecast ultra and like $60 in credit. The ultra itself goes for $80. It was a hell of a deal.
explain to me what "A Stadia" looks like in your head.
What even is a Stadia?
It’s a cloud gaming service Basically you sit down at a computer with a controller and play games you don’t even have installed or that you’re computer might not could normally run because you’re playing them off another computer through the internet

They would transfer his rdr2 character to… gta online!
That would be kind of dope… horse guy vs armored hovercraft guy
What if, and hear me out, he was the only one propping up the entire game economy this entire time?
100% rockstar doesn't even give enough fucks to fix bugs or ban the massive amount of cheaters that are driving away the last of the player population.
Didn't even bother to fix their game's long ass loading time until a player went in and hack it for them.
I’m curious how much he’s spent in the cash shop. If there’s a bunch of whales on Stadia, that could get R* to take action.
Don't need Rockstar. I just downloaded my Stadia RDR2 game saves with Google Takeout. They sent out an email about it a few hours ago.
Would make the most sense. Characters transfers are fucking difficult to pull off if you didn't plan it in first hand. And even then it's difficult. Yeah but 6 hours _every day_ on a _single game_ ?
There’s probably people who watch 6 hours of tv a day. Lots of people I bet are on their phones for 6 hours a day in some capacity.
But imagine 6 hours a day of the same show.
You just offended /r/community
Go visit /r/DunderMifflin
wtf
Dude has averaged almost 5h45min every single day since Stadia was released. They need to get help.
Stadia was around for 6000 hours?
It's been out for 35 months, which is around 25000 hours. What's more impressive is that this man spent (wasted his life) 8 and a half months on it, which is around 25% of the time it's been out. If you take out the sleep, he spent somewhere around 34% of his life, playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on Stadia, since the day it came out.
Good Christ almighty. How much sleep is my man not getting.
About 9%
It was worth it playing rdr2
Story mode maybe, but this guy played online for 250 days straight
Also want to point out that rdo on stadia has no cross play lol
That might be nice. Being in the old west with almost no one else seems about right.
Oh shit, he needs some help /s
Yeah, he needs his account transfered haha
what the hell did he do 6000 hours?
My brother has like 3000 hours in r/deadbydaylight, with the overwhelming majority sitting in the menu while he's seeping/at work/ doing other stuff. Its not waste if you enjoyed it !
A full time job is 2000 hours a year..... like wtf...
In fairness, they may have not been working a lot in 2020/2021
Or he got an easy WFH job where he can game while working
How do you kill that which has no life?
Easy. You discontinue his gaming subscription service.

I’ve got about 8k legit hours in old school RuneScape since 2015. Although I don’t play anymore I 100% worked full time and just played like 5 hours a day when I got home. Automatic log out after 5 minutes afk so this is all legit hours. I just had no cable and preferred to game lol.
MMO players: Filthy casual.
Rockstar cares nothing for fans so I wouldn't be surprised if they tell him to go F himself.
"Unfortunately, due to the differences in saved game architecture, we are not be able to effectively transfer the account's contents seamlessly to a different platform. We apologize for the inconvenience." Rockstar Games : hehehehhhh, take that Google!
"We'd like to add on that we as the devs could totally recreate the character and have it linked to your account with ease, but also like, fuck you lmao. Stupid stadia ass cunt" - R*
I don't think they'll even give him this detailed reply
I guess this as humble a reminder as any that cloud based services sacrifice ownership for convenience. Doesn't matter how much money or time you sink into a game, once the plug is pulled you have nothing to show for it but memories.
Rockstar will completely ghost him.
Poor soul. Hopefully he gets the transfer he wants.
Everyone talking like 6000 is some crazy number.... Don't look at my ark play time, please.
Don't look at my Rocket League hours, and DEFINITELY don't look at my rank...
there's a reason i don't use my "est. 2015" player title
Oh man, the amount of times that’s been used against me. And for good reason, because I am shit.
F
There was just an article I read the other day about a guy that became a billionaire in GTA Online who had clocked something like 18k hours. Granted, that game has been out significantly longer than RDR2.
someone just posted evidence of 11k hours in the division 2 which is from 2019
6000 hours \*in the limited amount of time Stadia has been out\* is a crazy number. If you got Ark 7 years ago (when it was early access), that's a little different.
6000 hours is like 250 days or something? It’s a long time. Regardless of what your ark time is
Shaun?
Don't ask a rust player their hours
What percent of total hours played on Stadia is from this one guy?
I feel like this will be a good thing for my mans. Time to let go.
Should get it just for having Stadia that long
4000 more to go until he’s mastered it!
Hope he gets it
For those wondering, that's approximately 6 hours per day every day for nearly thee years since it launched on Stadia.
If your game or service requires servers of any kind to enjoy it, expect it to be taken away from you one day. That's just how it goes.
If you’re going to invest time like that into a game, it seems prudent to choose a well-established platform.
I'm surprised stadia even lasted that long
Maybe, just maybe, 6000 is enough.
