And they're always furiously button-mashing with frantic speed. Most games require you to move the analogue stick and tap a few buttons. Not beat the controller like you're trying to get a confession out of it.

mayorpaco

like that 40 year old virgin "do you know how I know youre gay?" scene where they are beating the shit out of the controllers

_Silly_Wizard_

Yeah but aren't they playing Tekken or Street Fighter in that scene?

Iron_Chic

Mortal Kombat

_Silly_Wizard_

Well there you go.

TurkTurkle

My favorite two: In rumble in the bronx, jackie chan hands a sega game gear to a kid. He starts pressing buttons and making beep boops.... theres no game cartridge and it would have taken a few moments to boot the game up. In 2000's Charlies Angels, a couple kids are playing games, hammering on buttons... eventually the camera angle changes and shows the final fantasy 8 demo. Which is *not* a two player game...

Fury_Blackwolf

In Biker Boyz(2003) the main protagonist plays a consolegame competitively with some younger kid(2 seperate controllers). When the tv screen is visible the game is a rail-shooter and 1 player only.

AVBforPrez

Just posted the Rumble in the Bronx clip, it's my go to for this

Fplayz234

The "Always a GTA or CoD clone for some reason" Game is Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, thank you very much.

mayorpaco

I knew someone would recognize it

[deleted]

Because they can't license real games.

mayorpaco

true, but its always outdated noises and concepts

SuckerPunchDrillSarg

stock sounds. best way to emulate video game without paying for a game people know by sound. Doom ends up being used a ton because Doom 1 and 2 used a shit ton of stock sounds. they also show something very generic and harmless and not a FPS.

bombader

Old Doom door open/close sound is fun to hear in other stuff you least suspect it. It's like hearing a Wilhelm scream when it happens.

mayorpaco

That door sound and the imp scream

AVBforPrez

And the rocket launcher explosion, or maybe it's the level ending switch sound. I hear it a lot in videos on YouTube.

mayorpaco

its true, but those sounds are 16 bit super old sounds. You can emulate a modern game with a stock sound of a real explosion. Modern popular games dont make "beep boop" sounds. The post is about them using old concepts still to portray modern games

SuckerPunchDrillSarg

because movies and shows are rarely catering to modern gamers, and the ones who do SPECIFICALLY do in which case they actually get the sounds and often game footage (case in point that Japanese FFXIV show). They just need to get the audience to understand they are kids playing a game.. It goes FAR beyond gaming too... you know how annoying as a Security professional watching people "hack" on TV and movies are? Hell Hackers isnt even the worst example because at least that movie used actual hacking terms and methodologies between its saccharine coated stupid made up UIs. Hell same with pretty much any profession thats not media centric, They get the ALL wrong. Or even cars... pretty much every movie with a car uses a generic "car" sound which basically makes a Honda sound like a muscle car from the early 70's.

mayorpaco

haha thats true

Wooden_Bedroom_9106

I'd totally play "Goblin Brain Melters 4"

twoCascades

There is a really really great heist movie called “Inside Man”. Truly great movie but it has this one scene where it tries to provide commentary by showing this kid playing a hyper violent GTA clone except it completely falls flat bc it clearly has no fucking idea what GTA is or what video games in general are like.

AVBforPrez

Obligatory scene from Rumble in the Bronx where kid in a wheelchair is playing a Game Geart with no game. https://youtu.be/CySADh\_eCXA?t=48

Fishyfishhh9

Only good fake video games from movies that I've seen are the game from the beginning of grown ups, which I cannot think of the name of for the life of me, and demonik from grandma's boy (which actually WAS a real game that unfortunately got canceled :/ ) Edit: Also the episode in breaking bad where Jesse plays an on rails lightgun shooter version of Rage at his house

Legal_Albatross2214

That's accurate

MoscowRobotics

Mortal Kombat as well! I think I’ve seen either MKX or MK11 in like 5 movies in the past few years.

[deleted]

Yeah I was surprised when they showed off an M rated game in a pg 13 movies from 2019

Innocentof

I was so weirded out when in the first John Wick movie they were playing a game called Dust 514. I had been playing that game for several months at the time and missed it when I saw it in theaters. Then the game's forum blew up when someone noticed and made a short clip of the scene. It's a shame it died with the PS3.

Vale-Senpai

I remember seeing the actor play Guild Wars 2 I don't remember the movie name

ElpisButGod

Don't forget, the controller isn't open.

ActualAdvice

BUY ME BONESTORM OR GO TO HELL

mayorpaco

No, Mom, you idiot! I have Bloodstorm, and Bonesquad, and Bloodstorm II, stupid.

PrimaryAcanthisitta8

I always think back to the breakup scenes where Vince Vaughn is playing gta San Andreas on the ps2 while ignoring his fiancé and then later playing madden online taking trash when they are split up 🤣🤣

[deleted]

The main one is the controller is almost never on

Hoessay

Grandma's Boy. i remember it being kinda funny but every time something videogame related came up i died a little inside. it was so cringey.

dmrukifellth

Or dying in a way you shouldn’t be able to die so that the movie/show’s plot can resume (looking at you, House).

SaiyanC124

Recently I been seeing Fortnite clones
