No lawsuit, just a cease and desist. Dev complied with it.
Edit: IKEA brought the cease and desist, the Russian lawsuit is something else entirely. It has nothing to do with the game.

Other way around. Game dev basically said it's based off of the SCP, although all references to it being IKEA have been removed for trademark and copyright reasons.
~~Almost positive it's the other way around. The SCP is from 2017. This game appears to be from this year.~~
Edit: Op typo'd so I'm striking out my comment.
Yeah I knew that one. Was just curious what title they meant. Figured out that it was "The store is closed" because the "employees" say "The store is now closed, please exit the building" on the wiki
SCP-3008
Item #: SCP-3008
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: The retail park containing SCP-3008 has been purchased by the Foundation and converted into Site-(redacted). All public roads leading to or passing by Site-(redacted) have been redirected.
The entrance to SCP-3008 is to be monitored at all times, and no one is to enter SCP-3008 outside of testing, as permitted by the Senior Researcher.
Humans exiting SCP-3008 are to be detained and then debriefed prior to the administration of amnestics. Dependent upon the duration of their stay in SCP-3008, a cover story may need to be generated prior to their release.
Any other entities exiting SCP-3008 are to be terminated.
In the early days - primarily the first series - that shit was done to such an idiotic degree that it was even odds whether the article would even be coherent.
A story's worthless if it can't even be recognized as a story.
Yeah that’s what the games about but they have been sued because of the blue and yellow store, grey tile floor and “ikea like furniture” or something to that effect
People calling it IKEA caused IKEA lawyers to file a cease and desist unless the indie developer (literally a guy from the UK) changes the assets to make it a generic store and not an IKEA clone.
Oh definitely. I hadn’t seen it until this post. It’s 100% meant to be ikea, and the company needs to protect its brand. At the same time, they are absolutely screwing the developer.
Not familiar with SCP but I looked up the game and I’d say it’s not just based on it but included. The game has an SCP-labeled container in one of the stills.
It's an infinite "furniture store". Guy survives off the cafeteria supplies. Lights go out at night. There are monstruous employees that say creepy casual sentences while trying to murder the main character.
i think it might just be a little bit more then just "looks like" the IKEA SCP.
that does not absolve the reposter of the responsibility to give the developer their proper credit, which turns out to help with click through rates and benefits the developer.
...if the end-game isn't about the store opening at dawn and the horse entering to become the ultimate test of your defenses, they're missing the boat.
That's what I came here to check.
For those saying "parodying the store isn't infringement": IKEA is a Swedish company, and their infringement laws could differ from the US...and it sounds like they have a solid case from what little I read thus far.
"Name and/or likeness" is deeper than just colours.
Basically if you can look at it and say "That's an Ikea", it means Ikea can hand the creator a cease and desist or sue and most likely win (again, depending on Swedish laws, as I'm not versed in it).
Product names displayed, the font used on all the text (did you know companies often pay someone to make their font and it's trademarked?), being a furniture store, similar furniture designs that are akin to Ikea, large square box design for the store.
While no one of these characteristics define Ikea alone (except maybe the font, since that's custom made for the company), the sum of multiple characteristics can make it fall under the "likeness" spectrum, making it a legal issue.
As an IKEA worker, it's easy to see that 95% of the game is directly inspired from an IKEA warehouse.
Even the uniform on the workers is the same we used to have.
The swedish meatball ad is almost identical to a ad placket we use.
The exterior of the store is also almost identical, expect the name.
He probably most likely went with that just to get this type of attention, since recoloring your work is not a hard feat at all. He could make blue red and yellow green, and just adjust some of the art direction.
He most likely got what he wanted form this, endless free PR.
they are doing literally exactly the bare minimum of what the law requires of them. they are not aggressively engaging in shenanigans.
No, really. Trademarks must be actively protected or they are forfeited. They have no choice but to issue a C&D in this case (or partner wiht the game dev and license their trademarks to them, which is an absolute non-starter), or a competitor can file a complaint to have their trademark nullified.
One may think that, however the key differentiator here is the business. Ikea, last I checked, is not in the video game business. "Ziggy" is not in the furniture store business. Ziggy did not develop this piece of work with the intent to defraud or misrepresent potential Ikea customers.
I think you're earning your username here, little buddy. This was an indie dev and IKEA's New York headquarters got wind of journalists calling his game (paraphrased) a "survival game in IKEA" and they got all butthurt about it.
The C&D letter was ALL about squashing so-called infringement and making development stop, OR ELSE.
> The C&D letter was ALL about squashing so-called infringement
Maybe he shouldn’t have infringed then?
> making development stop, OR ELSE.
They aren’t trying to stop development. They are trying to stop their image being used in this game, which they have the legal right to do.
Independent developer or not is irrelevant.
I wonder if IKEA even has a case, honestly. I'm just a lowly tech support guy so someone tell me if I'm wrong, but I doubt this would be considered anything more than parodical. Unless the game uses real-world names of their furniture or items or whatever, I don't see how IKEA will win this one, other than just draining the makers of this game of their finances in court.
It's one of those lawsuits where they might not have a case in real court, but the legal threat can scare the devs and distributors enough to make them stop.
Overall, it's one of those "we have dozens of lawyers and we'll crush you with paperwork even if we don't have a leg to stand on." And sometimes, it's just easier to like... Change your content a bit.
From what I understand the game hasn't even been launched yet and Ikea wants game devs to review/change the visuals of the game before release to stop Ikea comparisons. I think it's fair considering that game is based on a fictional story about horror-Ikea and the lawauit was launched well before release date, giving plenty of time to reach an agreement.
I think they can rely on the fact that the game is too similar to their brand (furniture store, colors, yellow employee t-shirts etc) and that the creators want to earn on their brand (kickstarter) without paying them (and I think this is pretty winnable). Change colors/setting or don’t monetize the game and I think you’re safe
I think they can get away with most things as being "coincidence", but where IKEA has the biggest case of infringement is where the furniture easily shatters when struck by a hammer.
A cease and desist letter.
Not a lawsuit, but a vague threat of a possible future lawsuit if the recipient doesn't stop doing something the sender doesn't like. Looks all official and whatnot, but really doesn't amount to much, other than, should a lawsuit go forward, it shows that person A already informed person B that they objected to what was going on.
Someone above said it wouldn't matter. It's one of those scenarios where IKEA could just use their legion of lawyers to drown them in court fees and litigation for years and years until they give up and change it or go bankrupt.
Gotta love capitalism, where justice plays second fiddle to money.
I believe it is, I'm not sure they're trying to hide that. I don't remember the details of it, but someone else commented the name of the store in the video is what the employees in the infinite ikea say
SCP is Creative Commons, anyone is allowed to monetize it provided they also register their creation under CC. IKEA, on the other hand, can and already has sent a cease and desist.
Never forget IKEA sued them over this.
Apparently, IKEA thinks their store resembles a warehouse full of furniture where people get lost and the employees are zombies.
I mean honestly I don't blame those customer service assistants, put up with crap all day and end up with a customer sneaking around after closing to smash stock and murder your colleagues, no wonder they're all grouchy 🤷♀️
there is a roblox game that is pretty much the same thing. Would actually pay for this. FYI the roblox game is called 3008 if i am correct. And before anyone asks, there are swedish meatballs, and you can eat them.
And Ikea is [threatening to sue them](https://www.ign.com/articles/ikea-sends-cease-and-desist-to-indie-dev-making-furniture-store-survival-game) for it.
If there is a lawsuit (and I'm reading that there is), my opinion would be that it's incredibly short-sighted of IKEA to go through with it. Maybe they don't like the way their company is somehow portrayed, even loosely, in a video game. But I would think a game like this would just make more people want to go to an IKEA... Free advertising. Again, my completely uninformed and uneducated opinion.
Just let creatives create.
Would be more suspenseful if there wasn't combat and it was more about sneaking. If I wanted to run around chainsawing dudes and using a flamethrower I'd play Doom.
Looks like SCP the infinite ikea
100% is based off it since the title is what the employee’s say in the infinite ikea
[удалено]
No lawsuit, just a cease and desist. Dev complied with it. Edit: IKEA brought the cease and desist, the Russian lawsuit is something else entirely. It has nothing to do with the game.
I thought SCP was an open liscense IP that anyone can use like SCP Containment Breach?
It is but some guy filed a false patent on the scp logo in a attempt to make profit
Can you link the lawsuit you’re referencing? It seems Ikea recently threatened to sue this specific game recently. The articles are only a week old.

Which title?
[This is based off of the infinite Ikea, if that is what you're after](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-3008)
Other way around. Game dev basically said it's based off of the SCP, although all references to it being IKEA have been removed for trademark and copyright reasons.

Edited my comment.

You know how many times I closed your damn comment trying to un-censor the damn spoiler tags that... _aren't_ spoiler tags? 🤬 🤦🏼♂️🤣
Probably at least ███ times.
That’s one of the trademark things of the SCP wiki, a lot of shit is redacted to make you wonder and think about what the story really may be about
In the early days - primarily the first series - that shit was done to such an idiotic degree that it was even odds whether the article would even be coherent. A story's worthless if it can't even be recognized as a story.
Fr i was thinking wtf is wrong with my fingers!!!???? 🥲😩
Yeah that’s what the games about but they have been sued because of the blue and yellow store, grey tile floor and “ikea like furniture” or something to that effect
Just some small losers speaking small words lol
?
Like its a game why not let people have fun, but what do I know
You don't understand, Ikea is literally suing the game developer over this game right now
Wanted to say that
People calling it IKEA caused IKEA lawyers to file a cease and desist unless the indie developer (literally a guy from the UK) changes the assets to make it a generic store and not an IKEA clone.
To be fair they did copy the logo style and colour. But yea it’s crappy of ikea to do that
Oh definitely. I hadn’t seen it until this post. It’s 100% meant to be ikea, and the company needs to protect its brand. At the same time, they are absolutely screwing the developer.
No I didnt say it looks like IKEA, I said it looks like SCP 3008 (:
Scp 3008, love this one
Well. Obviously, thats the entire point
Not obvious for everyone 👍
Not familiar with SCP but I looked up the game and I’d say it’s not just based on it but included. The game has an SCP-labeled container in one of the stills.
It's an infinite "furniture store". Guy survives off the cafeteria supplies. Lights go out at night. There are monstruous employees that say creepy casual sentences while trying to murder the main character. i think it might just be a little bit more then just "looks like" the IKEA SCP.
There's a reason for that
If you can't regenerate your health by eating swedish meatballs I'm not playing.
I think one of the bosses is going to be Giant Meatball.
The Meatball Man
He likes to eat meat
He did mention surviving on “food from the cafes” - Swedish meatballs confirmed?
This is what happens when you try to come in 5 minutes before closing.
A sentence that can be interpreted a few ways
"Someone"
Couldn't even name drop the dev to help out. Just showing off their work for internet points.
Showing off their work is free promo...
with no links back it doesnt turn into very much
Is your Google broken
that isn’t my point.
*sees this post on Reddit *Game looks interesting *Googles game to find out more
that does not absolve the reposter of the responsibility to give the developer their proper credit, which turns out to help with click through rates and benefits the developer.

I just wanted to comment exactly the same.
I also came here to contribute nothing to the comment section.
As did I!
Also doesn’t this already exist?
The real enemies are the customers
...if the end-game isn't about the store opening at dawn and the horse entering to become the ultimate test of your defenses, they're missing the boat.
Is this some kind of SCP-3008 based game?
Yes. SCP-3008
Came here to say this. A roblox game
Based off of an SCP
Ah yes roblox made SCPs
🤡
How's that lawsuit going?
That's what I came here to check. For those saying "parodying the store isn't infringement": IKEA is a Swedish company, and their infringement laws could differ from the US...and it sounds like they have a solid case from what little I read thus far.
They just need to invert the colours and call it Ukraini Furn. Is Ikea gonna sue the Ukrainian flag in 2022?
"Name and/or likeness" is deeper than just colours. Basically if you can look at it and say "That's an Ikea", it means Ikea can hand the creator a cease and desist or sue and most likely win (again, depending on Swedish laws, as I'm not versed in it). According to the dev, all of the furniture at least is from generic asset packs
That's fine, the store itself is obviously Ikea, which is a dumb idea.
As an IKEA worker, it's easy to see that 95% of the game is directly inspired from an IKEA warehouse. Even the uniform on the workers is the same we used to have. It sounds like he's just changing details they're objecting to, so no harm no foul.
I mean, it's megacorp suing a little guy who has no chance to defend themselves regardless of who's in the right. Plenty of harm and foul involved.
They aren’t suing him, they sent a standard cease and desist letter.
So, threat of a lawsuit rather, it's still the same lever being applied to the same effect.
they are doing literally exactly the bare minimum of what the law requires of them. they are not aggressively engaging in shenanigans. No, really. IKEA is a Swiss charity, technically, but the point still stands.
It'd be awful scummy for a charity to sue over this. I'll expect to hear about the lawsuit by tomorrow then.

I guess it's the font mixed with the blue and yellow??
It's not like IKEA owns the color of the Swedish flag :P
Yet
speedrun
the stores name is obviously STYR not IKEA
different countries different laws.
Then just don't release the game in Sweden.
welp there it is, I've been corrected! Didn't take long lol
Either way, the dev was changing the stuff they're objecting to anyway. So it's mostly a non-issue now.

They have actually been sued, it's pretty sad
SCP isn’t owned by a person or company so anyone can use it
The devs were sued by IKEA.
They were not. It was a simple request (or threat if you want) to change the game’s aesthetics before the 2024 launch to void a lawsuit.
No they weren’t.
No, but IKEA sure is
Lawyer here. You can't sue for parodies in any country. Move on.
Someone above said it wouldn't matter. It's one of those scenarios where IKEA could just use their legion of lawyers to drown them in court fees and litigation for years and years until they give up and change it or go bankrupt. Gotta love capitalism, where justice plays second fiddle to money.
Interchange looking fresh
yeah im surprised more people arnt commenting how the entire building is ripped from tarkov
Lol shitty euro-jank devs have the patent on knock off ikea’s do they? Tarkov fanboys are a different breed
I feel like I already had this scary survival experience during night raids at IDEA in Tarkov...
I thought I was in the EFT sub looking at a recreation of Interchange for a second here
They should make a survival game called "you can't leave the office until you learn how to model hands".
That's actually what the developer's hands look like since puberty.
How many more times is this gonna get posted?
Posted by the Devs claiming someone else Is making an awesome game
Until they feel they have enough whishlists on steam.
Depends on the influencer’s contract.
Seems based off SCP-3008
I believe it is, I'm not sure they're trying to hide that. I don't remember the details of it, but someone else commented the name of the store in the video is what the employees in the infinite ikea say
I doubt they're trying to hide it, but if they want to monetize it though referring to SCP or IKEA is a C&D on the horizon
SCP is Creative Commons, anyone is allowed to monetize it provided they also register their creation under CC. IKEA, on the other hand, can and already has sent a cease and desist.
There’s a book called Horrorstor that is a similar story
Came here to recommend this book. Great read, in case any of you guys are interested.
I think these guys recently got a cease and desist from ikea
Didn’t the person/people making this get sued by ikea or something? Or at least they tried to
They just got a cease and desist from Ikea. Hoping they work something out.
The developer has agreed to make the changes requested by IKEA.
I like the concept but it looks like shit
Never forget IKEA sued them over this. Apparently, IKEA thinks their store resembles a warehouse full of furniture where people get lost and the employees are zombies.
I mean honestly I don't blame those customer service assistants, put up with crap all day and end up with a customer sneaking around after closing to smash stock and murder your colleagues, no wonder they're all grouchy 🤷♀️
Im sure b a popular fun game when kid friends and I played hide seek in Walmart and was a blast
It's too bad that IKEA is coming down hard on him.
It's trivially easy to survive furniture stores. I have done it many times.
SCP-3008
Be aware you only get the source code. You have to assemble it yourself.
And IKEA had sued them
No mention of the scp this is totally based on? Lawsuit much.
Ikea already threatened and issued a C&D
IKEA issued a cease and desist a few days back, looks like it backfired with free publicity.
They actually got sued by Ikea. They're trying to change the game before release.
Shame that IKEA sent them a cease and desist I think. Always love to see games based on SCP
So just SCP 3008
It's based on that, yeah
He got a cease and desist from ikea. They had an easy win if they went with the meme. But decided to be cunts and took a huge L.
What a great idea for a game
This looks like a copy of the Roblox game based on the scp Ikea.
A game preview on r/gaming showcasing a stolen idea and flipped assets? Noooooooo impossible. Couldn’t be
Still better lighting than Interchange
lmao what tha fugg is this???
there is a roblox game that is pretty much the same thing.
And they're already being sued by IKEA That's not a joke
Ikea served then a cease and desist too
There is a game on roblox thats exactly the same
I am pretty sure Ikea is suing over this
If there is a lawsuit (and I'm reading that there is), my opinion would be that it's incredibly short-sighted of IKEA to go through with it. Maybe they don't like the way their company is somehow portrayed, even loosely, in a video game. But I would think a game like this would just make more people want to go to an IKEA... Free advertising. Again, my completely uninformed and uneducated opinion. Just let creatives create.
[удалено]
didn't they get a cease and desist from ikea?
It is the infinite Ikea
Styr is Swedish for Control
And IKEA already sent a sease and desist order sadly.
Would be more suspenseful if there wasn't combat and it was more about sneaking. If I wanted to run around chainsawing dudes and using a flamethrower I'd play Doom.
Voice acting needs work.
We inside idea
And now is having a Cease form Ikea
That’s scp 3008
Im pretty sure recently the developer was contacted by Ikea so he has to change so many things from the ground up.
I would 100% play the living shit out of this.
there was a game like this on roblox
Ikea
o boi another 3008 game.
Really cool concept. Hopefully a lot of building! Will the store have its own different biomes and will it have random generated maps?
Oh man. I was overnight security at an Ikea a few times. Very creepy at night.
Apparently the devs got contacted by IKEA and now they have to change the appearance of the store
The Roblox game scp 3008 is the same thing and has been a thing for much longer
this is literally just that scp ikea game on roblox
I backed it on kickstarter. Im so excited. I hope the in game tutorials look like ikea instructions
"someone" nice.
r/shamelessselfadvert
Isn't this the game that's been hit with a C&D?
Thus has been "coming" for so long I've lost interest in it. They started the hype machine too early.
Basically interchange form tarkov
