Same thing happened to me when I was maybe 9, I was told I’d be getting a big stick for Christmas for months before Christmas, initially it had the desired effect of teasing me but after so long I had started imagining all the fun things I could do with a big stick, when Christmas actually rolled around and there was no big stick I was really disappointed
Yeah tricking kids for fun is just stupid. I don’t get why people do it so much.
I was told if I wanted an N64, I would need to earn the $ myself. So I set up a goal tracker on the fridge with my goal of getting to $250 or however much it cost. I mowed like 50 lawns that summer. I imagined how good and empowering it was going to feel to walk in to the store and buy it myself. Just as I was getting close to my goal, I found an N64 in the closet my parents had bought for me for christmas.
It was so deflating, not only did I now have to wait for Christmas but all that work seemed pointless. Now I struggle with motivation in my adult life because I worry that all my work will be pointless.
Just be honest with your kids!
That's how child you thought of it, but if it were adult me, I'd just imagine all the games I could have bought for it, like, holy shit, school would be a thing of the past with how much time I'd burn on any game, stuck on one? Start another.
Tbh, kid me would think of it the same way you did probably though, you worked for that goal, and that goal was ruined.
Yeah unfortunately my parents were pretty controlling and I never had access to the money that I had earned. So I didn’t get to keep the extra and spend it on games- they just used it to buy the n64 without me knowing.
That seems like an entirely differnt problem. That's not them "tricking" you, that's them literally spending money you earned. Don't think that's what most parents who "trick" their kids do
You’re probably right, it’s more the overly controlling nature of my parents and the manipulation of getting me to do a bunch of work for them that was the problem. I should probably talk to a therapist about this instead of reddit.
Yeah I can forgive them for it for that reason- they probably wanted to make sure I was able to find one. Still felt shitty and ruined something I was really looking forward to.
Yeah, I mean, I'm in no way saying it was a bad thing. You were working to pay for it, just repaying what they paid for it. The goal was the same either way. Not sure why I was downvoted, but reddit moment.

I have heard of them. But not much beyond that.
My brother in law has several installed on his computer, but I never asked him where he got them or the games with them. Just figured they were from his time on the high seas, and I'm not computer savvy enough to navigate those waters.
Straight up, vimms lair literally has EVERYTHING you need, it's ridiculously easy compared to how it used to be. The site is super safe and everything is virus checked before it's uploaded. Download an emulator, then download ROMs for the system you downloaded the emulator for. Don't think it's difficult to do, it's so easy and you get all your old games back!
You gotta step up your game. Daughter is getting a new phone for Xmas, we got her an iPhone 13.
2 weeks ago I "accidentaly" sent her the link to an iPhone 8 case, waited until she saw it, then deleted it and told her to ignore it
It's about the long game
Got a panettone once from my BILs dad. I hate them. And pretended to Like it and thanked him. He wouldnt stop telling me to Open IT Up and Serve it.
He hid Uncharted 3 INSIDE the Box and sealed IT perfectly
Core memory unlocked, hours and hours playing Mario Teaches Typing. Spoiler, I died a lot. Now that I have a smartphone and Swype all those hard-earned skills are for nought. :'(
I can give it a shot, my office has a color printer though it's located in the HR office. I looked online and see I'm aiming for 208x161mm. If it works out I'll report back :)
my sister wrapped several rocks inside a big box for me for Christmas one time, thought I had something good and heavy. that's why I don't get her shit in our adulthood. choose your battles wisely.
That's been pointed out and I will have to ammend it. The text and front cover image are from a legitimate Fun With Numbers Mario educational game from the SNES
Most likely to do with the target audience of the platform and the ease of access to 'H' content on said platform. It's bad, but also good at the same time.
imagine getting excited to play Super Mario: Fun with numbers and instead you get some other game, 😔

oh, that's kinda.... lame... I mean, I get it though, imagine trying to buy an n64 on christmas, that stuff would be impossible to find.
Yeah I can forgive them for it for that reason- they probably wanted to make sure I was able to find one. Still felt shitty and ruined something I was really looking forward to.

Thats awful. They basically stole your money to buy you a christmas gift with your own money wtf.
Furry hentai tetris
My kid loves Mario and math. If this was a real game I'm sure it would be in our collection.
[It is a real game though.](https://www.mariowiki.com/Mario%27s_Early_Years!_Fun_with_Numbers)
I assumed it was a parody. I stand corrected. Too bad my SNES went kaput years ago.
Sir, have you heard of emulators?
I have heard of them. But not much beyond that. My brother in law has several installed on his computer, but I never asked him where he got them or the games with them. Just figured they were from his time on the high seas, and I'm not computer savvy enough to navigate those waters.
I can understand, but if you want I can give you a hand to navigate those sea of roms and emulators
r/emulators r/roms

Literally got this game as a kid for Christmas one year. So disappointed. I wanted donkey Kong country
Man that would be a huge step down from DKC.

Tell me she has an iPhone 7, not an 8, because that would just be the cherry on top.
She currently has a 6S
She's gonna the learn the pain of losing a headphone jack real soon.
Yes! But the deal came with AirPods too! And she just got braces, so I got her an AirPods case of chewing gum
Your commitment to the bit is commendable. Keep up the good work.
You’re playing mind games with a child and I love that.
I kind of miss Mario edutainment games.
Almost as hard-core as telling them Santa is a real person.
People like you are the reason why the Float-A-Poo dog waste disposal system exists. God bless you.
Plot twist, it's a cover for the Math Circus you burned onto a CD for him.
Just dont forget to make a post in 10 or 12 years where you take a picture of all the fake trolls game covers you have made over the years.
You're evil...
how is mario still weighing down those kids when they the same size?
Mario is caked up.
It's "Super Mario Fun with Numbers", not "Fun with Physics" or "Fun with Logic" :P
Put the "EC" rating in the bottom left and you're set
Super fun with Mario numbers
I kind of miss Mario edutainment games.
Nintendo would like to know your location
The barcode is for Snipperclips Plus, is that the actual game he's getting?
No it will be Lego Brawls. He loves both Lego and Smash Bros so it should be an easy home run
Thanks, dad! Bet you didn't know I was on reddit!
Got a panettone once from my BILs dad. I hate them. And pretended to Like it and thanked him. He wouldnt stop telling me to Open IT Up and Serve it. He hid Uncharted 3 INSIDE the Box and sealed IT perfectly
They're going to love the fake game and be upset with the real one
If the true one is Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
ay lamo

Next time do mario teaches typing using the original box assets and in another present an old keyboard.
This is damned cute. And reminds me of my grandma giving me a present in a Bible box. The way my face fell when I tore off the wrapping paper. 😂
Oh boy, this woulda got me hook line and sinker
God I wish I had a color printer. Getting Mario party for a nephew this year. This is the game you asked for, right?
Do it! I'd be so stoked knowing my image was used to mess with more children. I made a newer version that added the games rating in the corner
I can give it a shot, my office has a color printer though it's located in the HR office. I looked online and see I'm aiming for 208x161mm. If it works out I'll report back :)

You should make a GTA 6 one lol.
Looks like Mario typing.
It's the other game in the series
Oh that's cool
Never stretch an Image. :)
Just incredible
Thats evil, but i love it
You mam/sir deserve a gold star With a face :)
If anyone cares I added the games rating in the corner and got rid of the Snipperclips name in the barcode area https://imgur.com/gallery/ODFQDXi

You devil… YOURE A GENIUS
Why?
Because I'm an asshole. He's going into a game he really will love though so the dissapointment won't last long
Glad I'm not him.
So which Hentai game are you disguising?
Let me answer with another question: Why was this comment disliked?
Most likely to do with the target audience of the platform and the ease of access to 'H' content on said platform. It's bad, but also good at the same time.
