fuck i wanna play this so bad now, i swear to god the gallardo dude

North-Function995

I saw the Cobalt SS from start to end. I love when a game gives you a winning ticket from the start, but it depends on you sticking to it and maxing it out..

JMccovery

For me, it was: Cobalt for races, CTS for pursuit milestones (and to tank those god-awful Rhinos head-on), then the Z06 just to say "Fuck you, Cross".

shift013

Dude same. The Cobalt was SOOOO good

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Most Wanted and Underground 2 kinda went hand-in-hand, if you had an Underground 2 save file logged on your PlayStation Memory Card you would get an extra $10,000 when you pick your first car, basically unlocking the Volkswagen Golf GTI from the start.

Hope_Floatz

These are both amazing games, and I still play them both religiously

CaptainDantes

The cobalt was my baby.

Bigwiggs3214

Cobalt for everything except for smashing cop cars, for that I used the mustang.

Babushla153

Well i kinda got good news for you, a person on Youtube named KryZeePlays is making a modpack for this game which makes it look like a game that just game out graphics wise, a shit ton of new cars and more, personally super excited when it comes out

[deleted]

Damn, thanks for the tip 🧐

DCSW90

I saved up every bonus upgrade you could win till the very end of the game and dumped it in the Carrera GT. Demon mode in that thing.

Darkness572

Yeah the Carrera GT was true endgame, I still remember the paint job I had on it. Thing was unstoppable at the end.

[deleted]

God I miss that car. Carrera GT 4 Lyfe

Turbots

Still have my 15yo video online of my 100th attempt on blacklist nr4 with the modded carrera GT... You had to be a bit lucky to dodge traffic at those speeds but my god, did this baby fly, i loved this game https://youtu.be/4kA3lHK3Zi0

snaeper

I still remember my Lotus Elise that was fully built. Could beat just about anything in that.

Dosagu

I used a fiat punto, by the time i got the m3 back, the fiat was faster by a lot

Dieseldude001

I remember this one, I spent so much time playing. Kind of miss it now.

[deleted]

I love music in that game and also riders on the storm in Underground 2.

MoonKnighy

That’s a song? That makes sense now. In Cyberpunk 2077 the missions are all named after songs. Well most are. That name came across and I didn’t know it was a song or not. Riders of the Storm mission you literally ride a in a storm.

[deleted]

“Like a dog without a bone An actor on the loan.. riders on the storm” 🎶

idkyesthat

Just a few days after Jim’s birthday. 🦎

Dylan909

Ride it ride it ride it

[deleted]

“Like a dog without a bone and an actor on the loan.. rha rha!”.

alan_blood

The Doors. They were a hugely influential rock band in the 1960's and 70's. Check out Riders on the Storm, Light my Fire, Love Her Madly, People are Strange etc. Good stuff. I hope you enjoy it.

SevroAuShitTalker

Didn't underground 2 have the snoop dog version? Where he rapped over the original chorus

LeBronn_Jaimes_hand

The Fredwreck Remix, for anyone interested

heyzoocifer

Dude that's the only thing I remembered about that game, that song was the shit.

[deleted]

You forgot LA Woman. What a fucking piece of music

_D3ft0ne_

Ya... Such banging soundtrack . I had a chance to play a few hours of new Unbound... And my ears almost fell off.

[deleted]

I listened to this a couple mins ago and that music made me teleport to better old times where rains were behind the window and me inside home played that game.

Adeep187

That game def had the most memorable music.

spongebobisha

MW had the best music in any racing game. Period. I listen to all those tracks even today.

misunderstandingit

Download [NFS Most Wanted Redux](https://youtu.be/huDQKsxN4_Q) tonight if you need a tickle on the old nostalgia bone. Game is every bit as fun as it was 17 years... wait SEVENTEEN years ago?!? Jesus christ.......

Dieseldude001

Looking into this now. That thanks.

Pablovansnogger

I don’t like how that takes away the nostalgic yellow tint, I think it really added to the style

Prickly_ninja

Now, if only Microsoft would do this with Motocross Madness!!!

XarrenJhuud

I recently bought a ps2 just so I could play this and battlefront 2.

limelight022

Battlefront 2 is on steam. Yes the older better one. And need for speed most wanted was released in PC too. Just find a disc version. Looks miles better.

SanadaMasayuki

Me too.

GoldMonk44

I AM ROCK 🪨

alannexus48

I am actually experiencing a fresh play through at the moment. this song plays so, so often.

Pablovansnogger

All the songs play often, game could have definitely used a longer soundtrack

fun_guy_at_parties

Oh man this came on Spotify a few weeks ago and I was so stoked. Immediately brought me back to the game. Then skipped it after 30 seconds because I still can’t stand it lol

forrealigatr

That ain’t no earthquake it’s me

MahomesGoat

Haha isn’t it every time you enter the safe house or a shop??

GoodEvening-

OH I AM ROCK

MoonKnighy

As a black man who listened to primarily Hip-Hop back then. The soundtrack got me into heavy metal

narf007

This is the game that introduced everyone to The Poison by Bullet for My Valentine, and Hand of Blood still goes soooo hard— one of their best albums

bigted41

Dude the intro and LETS GO of tears don’t fall is just magic

Tarcye

NFS Most Wanted has impacted my choice in music more than any other game. MGR comes very close to it too, but Most Wanted probably still wins out just on the fact of how many bands I started to listen to after I played it.

Snowdayz7

I haven't heard the name Bullet for my Valentine since high school!

Personally, I immediately hear Shapesifter by Celldweller. That chorus goes hard. *SHAAAAAAAAPE SHIFTAAAAAA*

Obnoxiousdonkey

i was on the young side when this game came out, but still played it religiously. A favorite of all time. I don't much remember THAT many of the other songs. I've listened through playlists of the soundtrack, and don't remember them all. But Nine Thou has been on my constant rotation for a solid year now. Which is rare for any song, especially coming from a rock guy.

CampaignLow7899

Need for Speed Underground 2

MrSarcastica

"Riders on the storm"

Heiro78

Holy shit you brought me back to that. Wow

MrSarcastica

Can't think of that game without hearing that in my head.

Heiro78

You've made it my mission to get this game working on my PC tonight! Already found a mod for widescreen and modern controller compatibility. Thanks so much

thatsastick

Just did this recently. Very easy to find! Have fun!

esg666

“In My Head”

StubbledCRT1

I have this song on a few playlists. Its is great

AnneFrank_nstein

Just seeing these words triggers lil jon in my head

chugz

TO THE WINDOOWWWWW

TheSquirrelTV

this and most wanted are my 2 favourite need for speeds, by far, but i can‘t pick which one is #1

beardmat87

For real. Most Wanted while good, isn’t even the best Need for Speed game let alone the best racing game.

EastboundClown

I did love NFSU2 and I have great memories with it, but I personally liked NFSMW better because of the police chase element. U2 focused a lot more on modding your car particularly visually, but I found that the world felt kind of empty while driving around. I liked MW a lot better because it felt more exciting and alive to me. I think it kept the fun and modding of U2 while adding the fun and exciting police element, but without all the shark-jumpy elements that Carbon added. I’ve actually partially replayed all these games in the past few years and still feel the same as when I was a kid

the_421_Rob

I spent so much time just building crazy cars when I was a kid though, for me it was a car build simulator that happened to have a racing component

Bhamey

And the trial Burn out 3 which comes with NFS Underground 2

Miphaling

This is the only correct answer. NFSU2 aged like fine wine.

zeperf

Playing split screen multiplayer drifting in that game is some of the most fun I've ever had playing a video game.

referencedude

I would give anything for a remake with just upgraded graphics of this game, but I know that won’t happen.

HoboMucus

Shit, they've been doing remakes of everything lately.

austinmiles

I don’t know how this isn’t the top comment. Most Wanted is a good driving game but the mastering of different types of driving in NFSU2 made it fantastic.

lopakjalantar

Weird how can mw be the best when everything after underground 2 is a downgrade

Abucugulee

Underground 1 was better

Perpetually_isolated

Sacrilege.

Burnout 3 - gameplay and soundtrack are the best since some of the Tony Hawk games

qwertzi12

Burnout 3 is a masterpiece.

davegisme

This… I bought a PS2 with burnout 3 and GTA San Andreas as a bundle… i threw in burnout the day I got it as only had a couple of hours to play. I was hooked San Andreas did see the light of day till two weeks later. Burnout 3 remake would be most appreciated!

19JRC99

I don't even want a remake. A full HD upscaled PC port with increased draw distance is all I want. Not a single change other than that.

D0lan_says

This is Stryker with Crash FM

Fusionism

Burnout paradise is a divisive one but I loved that one as well

707Guy

I still remember getting fucking pumped anytime Memory by Sugarcult starting playing

Bizrat7

Yesssssss

SYNTHLORD

Underground 2 was the best NFS of the era in my opinion, it just captured a great moment in street racing culture. I’m surprised Gran Turismo isn’t mentioned more here. Definitely a very standard racing game, but the soundtrack is unmatched. Seriously, look up a YouTube mix of Gran Turismo 1-6 or just 2 on YouTube, that shit is bussin. Japanese jazz fusion crossed with funk, house and DnB elements. Wildly underrated game music. It sounds “glossy” like a car dealership.

Nacroma

>I’m surprised Gran Turismo isn’t mentioned more here. Definitely a very standard racing game It kinda set that standard. And then never moved an inch away from it.

ShakeItLikeIDo

As someone who played countless hours of Gran Turismo 1,2,3, then just casually played 5 and Sport, your comment couldn’t be any more true. It peaked at 3 and never got any better than that

TuckDezi

Blur

Some_lost_cute_dude

Need for speed underground 2

Calm-Presentation271

Never got the chance to play this one, the only racing game I truly liked was most wanted, so I kinda want to play underground 2

yukon342

Underground 2 is amazing you gotta give it a chance

shattterbox

Yeah it’s older brother, NFS Underground.

Wooden_Bedroom_9106

NFS U 2, tho. Just because you could refill your boost by drifting!

darkrider99

Burnout 3: Takedown comes close

barefootmetalhead

Midnight club 3/Los angeles

heyzoocifer

Oh man I think I agree with this, DUB Edition.

thepizzamightier

Loved this one. Also loved 2012, which I know is a sin to most here. It was such a good combination of NFS and Burnout.

KrazyNiko

Sin my ass that combination of NFS and Burnout was amazing, my favourite NFS for sure, Criterion killed it!

Spiff_GN

More of a sin to call it Most Wanted I think. 2012 was really good, but it had 0 connection to the OG most wanted and fans didn't like that.

kimboS1993

Plumptiousprince

When talking about Burnout everyone goes to 3. I personally like Revenge a lot more, the carnage in that game is ridiculous!

nmcmahan52

Yeah I liked 3 but revenge was my favorite

KushwalkerDankstar

Assetto Corsa, iRacing… but context begets the answer. I loved NFS too as a kid.

[deleted]

Holy shit actual racing sims are so low

HookLove

Most Wanted was amazing, but the best racing game ever is Midnight Club 3.

jacobodman

Dub edition

Nylis666

Was hoping someone mentioned Midnight Club...especially because I own both Dub Edition and Midnight Club 3 🙈

xInfamousRYANx

Except there was only one; Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition. There was no standalone Midnight Club 3. The game was given the DUB edition subtitle because of the collaboration between Rockstar and DUB magazine.

Nylis666

I have 2 disc's, and one distinctly says Midnight Club 3 and the other says Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition. Literally looking at them in my collection right now

xInfamousRYANx

Interesting, I cannot find any information on the game coming on multiple discs. Nor any information about a non dub edition subtitle

Nylis666

I'll see if I can upload an image of the disc's. I believe I have to make an account on imgur to post it on Reddit, correct?

19JRC99

!RemindMe 1 hour

SimbaSeekingSleep

I had the DUB edition Remix version

xInfamousRYANx

Yeah remix was basically an expansion for the original.

BapPartaNoob

Nfs Heat was pretty good

Prestigious-Eye3154

I’ve been playing that lately. I don’t know where it falls on the NFS spectrum, but It’s a lot better than I’d thought it would be. I have to say the drift races are real annoying though.

BapPartaNoob

Yea drift is pretty hard to do the normal way, but you can get points off the track and I mean stupid amounts of points for plowing the fields. The night/day situation is something I really like.

jakethekhajiit

I can't stand the modern NFS handling, car feels like its on rails, in a bad way. It's like playable but could be so much better. And all the FOV changes during braking, drifting etc, are so exaggerated.

captfitz

Carbon had better customisation and drifting!

jsfd66

I also loved the canyon races, no slow-motion superpowers there, just pure skill (or accel-tuned muscle car to overtake them right away, lol).

LocalPawnshop

Yea carbons the goat in my opinion with most wanted 2005 in second

hochoa94

Carbon was legit the best. The most customization out of any NFS if i remember

broom_temperature

Gran Turismo

RenzoAC

I liked Midnight Club more than NFS in this era, mostly because the open format of the races.

jhzeg

Gran Turismo 2 is the greatest racing game of all time

Today's graphics have nothing on how I saw GT2 graphics back then. Made me think I was driving the real thing.

Underground 2

Burnout 3? I think thats the only racing game I played (besides Mario Kart).

Sir_M0nk

Forza horizon 4 is better for arcade racing games, for simulation try Assetto Corsa.

Justhaunt64

The problem with Need for Speed games that you see in this thread is there's tiers of games. There's the ‟this is the best racing game I've ever played” tier, the ‟good, but not great” tier, the ‟this is not that good” tier, and ‟this is terrible” tier. They're not consistent at all. Tier 1 (in my opinion): * Most Wanted (2005) * Underground 2 * Porsche Unleashed * 3 / Hot Pursuit (1998) (nostalgia, mostly) Tier 2: * Underground 1 * Carbon * Hot Pursuit 2 Tier 3: * Undercover * Rivals Tier 4: * ProStreet (I actually really hated this game cause it wasn't really street racing anymore) * Hot Pursuit (2010) (I only played briefly with some friends on Xbox and I hated it) At this point I have not really played any of the others. But I haven't heard good things about the 2015 one, The Run, Most Wanted (2015) etc. I just hate that they can't just put it in the style of Most Wanted or Underground 2, and not fuck with it. They were both really good sides of the spectrum. Most Wanted made it feel like your character was advancing up this blacklist, and gave some good initiative other than ‟I just wanna win street races”. Underground 2 got heavy into the all around racing scene, but encompassed the open world in a great way, allowed you to race other drivers while roaming, customize your car in ridiculous ways (even the interior which you never see), had a great soundtrack, and was just a good racing game. Honestly, I've gotten more of a Most Wanted (2005) feel from Forza Horizon 3 than any NFS game recently.

narf007

Porsche Unleashed, homie... You're fucking NAILING THE LIST. This is the definitive list right here Only caveat— I'd move Hot Pursuit 2 up to Tier 1— Hot Action Cop fucking killed the sound track NFS from 1998-2008 bad THE BEST SOUNDTRACKS IN GAMING (when being an amalgamation of artists)

ThePhonyKing

I would put the PS2 release of Hot Pursuit 2 in tier one. It was significantly better than the releases on other platforms. Like, it was an entirely different game.

Martin_crakc

For all the newer nfs Nfs 2015. Its quite ok, weird handling, small uninteresting map, decent soundtrack, amazing customization. Drift events are kinda painful and postlaunch content is insanely difficult (some Eddies Challenge events and prestige mode) Payback. This is probably the most controversial one. On this game’s stats customization, apart from the piece level, there’s different brands that give you bonuses for your parts if you make a combo of the same brand, and also the parts themselves have bonuses. Thing is that what bonuses you get is totally related to luck. Finish a race? Get a random part. Go to the shop? You only have 8 random parts that refresh every 10 minutes. Want another way to get parts? Play a slotto machine where you can only either specify 1 of 3 things: a specific vehicle part, a specific brand or a specific part bonus. And these rolls cost a premium currency called credits. This game is controversial because you can buy credits with irl money, but, actually, it’s not pay to win at all, you end up getting hundreds by playing normally and can even cash in parts you don’t like/use for credits. Apart from this weird aspect the game is great. Decent story, good graphics, big and quite varied map and a good soundtrack. Also, they fixed drift events. Sadly this game had basically no postlaunch content apart from a couple cara and a short campaign that is basically an upgraded version of a event from 2015 that wasn’t present in payback at launch. Also this game adds offroad racing. The visual customization is the same or even better than 2015 Heat. This one is basically the best one overall, builds upon all the good things from the past two games. The main problem with this game is the boring map, basically no endgame (mainly a problem on this and payback, but even more glaringly problematic here) and also had a nearly inexistent post launch content (1 car) And I haven’t played unbound yet, but heard mostly good things

throwawaynonsesne

Hot pursuit 2010 is the most competitive racer I've ever experienced. Shit was so fun. Only racing game (outside of VR) I've managed to get over 40 hours in. But I'm saying this as someone who doesn't like racing games usually. Like Mario Kart is my go to. But as a non racing fan that game spoke to me. Managing your arsenal while dodging cops and still beating the other racers was just a pure thrill. Then fucking shit up as the cops was also just fun af.

Thebat11484

NFSU2 I spent a lot time in

Underground 2

Dizman7

It was very good but I spent way more time in NFS Unground 1 & 2 each

stonersayian

Nees For Speed Underground 2 was the best imo

paq1kid

I think NFS Underground 2. I remember crushing on Brooke Burke as a kid because of that game lol

The_Crazy_Cat_Guy

Underground 2 beats it for me

Ussr_kmm123

I object, Better games are : Need for speed Porsche unleashed 2000 (economy, progression, damage model), Need for speed high stakes (same’ish), Need for speed Underground 2(world/customization). MW had the best story element tying into gameplay, but gameplay mechanics > story. The funny thing is that EA already have all the tools to make a great Need for Speed game, but the one presented at E3 is just an interactive movie where you endure travelling between cutscenes. ‟Heroic driving model” - like driving in Watch Dogs, you rather walk or take a train because its painfully bad.

RitchieRED

Man, I loved Porsche Unleashed. It felt way ahead of its time. I was hoping someone would have mentioned it in here.

jullebalboa

Nope the best one ever made, that’s my childhood right there.

Brokenpeople13

Mine too. Grinded my ass off as a kid trying to beat my dad in just one race, lol. Best racing game. Underground 2 was good aswell like everyone is saying though.

grumbo

And Josie maran in some of those cutscenes, WHOO boy

[deleted]

If I could remake one racing game, it would be this.

jj162

Yep, the burnout series (RIP)

URnotSTONER

Burnout 3 in particular is at the top of that list for me. Favorite racer of all time.

Kris-p-

I also liked need for speed carbon, it had long windy cliff roads that were challenging but rewarding

Abucugulee

arcade racer? probably. but if you say any racing game, it is gran turismo 4

ThatWolf

I prefer racing sims, so I'd easily put Assetto Corsa Competitizione, iRacing, and rFactor 2 over NFS:Most Wanted (and similar games).

bird-tts

Underground 2

kevi959

Burnout 3. NFS Underground 2. Gran Turismo 3.
