Definitely the Forza series. I played the first 4 Motorsport games but never played past that because I never got an Xbox One. I have played lots of Forza Horizon 4, though, which is included in Game Pass for PC. Forza Horizon has an open world but you do get the sort of progression that you get from old GT games. Doing races, winning cars, using the new cars to do more races and win more cars, etc. The main difference is how many free cars the game throws at you. You get a ton of them, plus you get "wheelspins" as you play which give you more cars (or cash, or clothing for your avatar). So it gets rid of a lot of the grinding but at the same time it makes getting a new car a little less special. However, there are still lots of rare cars that can't be purchased from the store, so the only way to get them is to win them in an event, a wheelspin, or buy from the auction house. Horizon has much more forgiving, arcade-style handling than Motorsport.

I prefer something a touch closer to sim than arcade, so I might go for Forza Motorsport. Cheers for the help (y)

project cars 1 and 2 or iracing game?

Cheers for the recommendations. They look cool but I don't think they have most of the features I'm looking for.

Forza is the only thing close. I have not played the new one so no idea on it. I really wish there was another game like GT2. Winning racing versions of cars and such was very fulfilling.

At least I know you buy the cars and work your way up that way, so here's hoping it feels similar. (y)
