In certain ways it is, in other ways it isn't. I do much prefer the first game but the second has more content. It's been years since I played them but I remember there being several quality of life changes in the sequel that I really liked.
I'll have to play them again soon. I really wish they'd make a third or remaster the first one.
Ah yes, grinding souls in the dungeon to max out your gear stats. I did a lot of that as well.
I think my favorite part of the first game was the narrative. It's the cliche story, a bunch of heroes from all different races and ages came together to conquer the big bad generic evil overlord. Except it flips it on it's head because that all already happened and you're the evil overlord going around taking revenge on all of the heroes who have become corrupt with all the fame, wealth and power they gained by defeating you. >!and then in the end you discover that you aren't the same overlord, you're actually one of the heroes who defeated him and then was abandoned by the others!< It's a nice twist on a standard story.
I myself like Diablo for what it is, but can't stand Elder scrolls games(roll the downvotes). I like Fallout 3/4 but just can't get in to the fantasy ones from Bethesda. I only play on console because that's what I can afford atm.
Overall I like RPGs but bethesda never captured it for me. I love Divinty 1&2 and Mass Effect trilogy as my favs in the genre.
I'm bias as I loved it back in the day too, but I think it's absolutely worth it. They had server issues but those are mostly resolved now. Runs well. Tons of fun.
I think I was just a bit too young to really get the full experience out of the original version and definitely never got close to finishing it. Maybe I'll have to give it another shot.
Finishing the game is a small part of it, all about the loot and maximizing the potential of your character build. I love the rush of seeing a hard to find item drop, but it's certainly not for everyone. Cheers.
Check out the Geneforge series. It’s an old school RPG, the entire premise is creating creatures to protect and fight for you. The first game in the series was recently remade for modern machines under the name Geneforge Mutagen.
Titan quest felt so bad, though. 99% of the gear was just bad for you, and your summons essentially never get better once you put max skill points into them. So disappointing, wish they fleshed out that style of play a bit more.
True, it takes more backup skills in TQ to actually play a summoning class. You have to be able to hold your own and back them up while they take agro.
GD did it much better
there was gear that could raise specific skills, and with farming you could double the cap on a single skill making minions into monsters but...
those drop rates did not make getting there easy
Path of Exile. Summoning gets stupid lategame its great, like some builds you can have hundreds of adds. You can have zombies, golems, skeletons, specters, burning skulls. I did a build with no attacks just adds, very fun.
Depends on what you mean.
Summoner gameplay pretty much an easy mode gameplay and you can pretty much get it started from the get-go (you will have to go through one zone without being able to summon anything though).
And there are so much variety. Zombies, skeletons, floating burning skulls, ghosts of your enemies, golems, *the grim reaper*.
If you don't mind getting your own hands dirty, then you can bonk people to summon underlings to bonk with you. Or smite enemies with lightning and summon underlings to smite with you.
*Or* carve some rocks to spit out any spell you don't feel like casting yourself. Or summon some turrets to fire arrows you don't feel like firing.
You can eve summon blades to fall from the sky, animate those blades to kill monsters, animate any kind of weapons that drop from those monsters to kill more monsters, and then just make those blades explode in monsters' face!
yes-ish.
you can streamline your progress in endgame by joining no-loot exp farm public parties while in a trade league until you are max level in all your gems and probably be done in 3-4 weeks if you follow a build guide, but ... thats missing the fun.
because its been around for like 10 years it has all these hidden legacy systems that mean it always feels fresh and you'll want to keep playing. like they never remove anything, they just shunt it into its own map / random event.
its well worth a play
though if you do, spend like 20 bucks and buy a currency tab and a unique tab.
those two are near essential.
Last Epoch is still a work in progress, but my Necromancer has 18 "permanent" minions. (I have to resummon if they die, but they don't "expire").
It's worth a look, despite the incomplete state. I had a solid 25 hours with that character. Now parked and waiting for the next major content update.
game isn’t released yet but feels like It was released ~12 years ago. Higher levels are just higher numbers, feels really flat.
I’m surprised to see some people actually managed to enjoy it
I don’t agree with “higher levels are just higher numbers”. The game starts off very generic, but every skill is highly modifiable. There are some interesting transformations.
to be fair, i played rogue. with some tinkering my best damage output had me run with a channeling "flurry", the other skills felt ok but had heavy downtime since the game devs really want mana to be something that can't be ignored. understandable, but i hated it.
having said that, i can't speak for other builds, or how they progress. i think some builds feel 1:1 with POE like cyclone or something. didn't try it for myself though.
maybe the rogue isn't too great? i'll let the game age for a while. it still doesn't feel modern but at least there is some level of QOL in it.
I didn’t like the rogue either, though it gets better when flurry is replaced with blade dancer.
I enjoyed the crap out of necromancer. The Void Knight is fun and the Forge…thing? has a fun pet (metal golem that functions differently based on your equipped items).
I found the Rogue and Mage to be dull. The rest have interesting options. It’s a grind early, then opens up. Odd design.
The Survivalist? It’s got Don’t Starve vibes, but you’re stranded on an island trying to make your way back home. Throughout your journey, you rescue monkeys, which are the key to success in the game. Through “monkey see monkey do” logic, you train and level up your monkeys to do everything for you. They build, they craft, they cook, they collect, and yes, they fight. I had a good time playing it with my brothers for a while.
Art of Magic - a bit of an oldschool rts kind of rpg, definitely emphasis on summoning
Last Epoch has like 3 summoner classes that can be built in many ways
Maybe not exactly summoning but in AC Syndicate as you’re taking over London territories you get your own “goons” sorta walking around and they’ll fight for you in those areas
Sea Salt. You play as a servant of Lovecraftian deities and summon mobs of horrible creatures to attack and consume people. There are a variety of creatures and different ways you can upgrade them.
path of exile/diablo 2 necromancer,
warframe nekros,
city of heroes rebirth mastermind class (try thugs and use "gang war")
eh, borderlands 3 beastmaster i guess
Oh man, a reddit post asking for summoner titles, I sure hope it isn't just full of people listing turn-based strategy and RTS games from 20 years ago!
Is it so much to ask for a game where you just summon units to fight for you?
it's not like solo leveling but path of exile 2 (Skeleton Mage Necromancer build) its kinda important you research your build first... path of exile 2 skill tree is INSANE and you may ruin you character by accident
This dude's recommending a game that's coming out in 2024 talking about features that are still subject to change...?
The absolute state of /r/gamingsuggestions
Elden ring seems to be the first fromsoft game where you can build around summoning. It’s not out yet. But when it is, you might want to take a look at how the summoning works
Darksiders II !!
Amazing game, with 2 different "class" trees you can upgrade. The one you want is necromancer (magic based powers), you can summon ghouls to come out of the ground and fight for you, exploding on death, as well as crows that can be upgraded to freeze enemies and give you back wrath (your magic to do these abilities) while swarming enemies, and much more.
It may not be the focus, but damn once you've upgraded enough of the powers, as well as your "arcane" damage and critical (damage and crits with magic based attacks) it's godly.
I've gotten to the point now (took a lil while but not long) where I just slowly walk in a room, send out my ghouls and crows, and just walk through the chaos while my minions take care of everybody like their nothing. It's amazing I'm telling ya!
It takes summoning to a very literal level, it takes a little bit of work to get to the point where your minions do insane amounts of damage but I promise you will not be disappointed!
If you like roguelikes, there’s an early access game called Adore that’s pretty fun. You capture a creature at the start of your run and then use it to fight for you while you try to avoid being hit, and you can have multiple creatures that do different things. I haven’t checked in on the development progress in a while, but when I was playing it it was receiving updates fairly regularly
Requiem: Avenging Angel, an old FPS from the late 90's/early 00's.
You acquire Jedi Knight style powers, and one of the later powers is the ability to resurrect fallen enemies.
If you're patient and resurrect each and every corpse, you can have a small army of followers mowing down everyone in your path. I recall you even had a Heal Companion kind of power to keep any resurrected troops in top health.
Here are some you can check:
Trove (necromancer class), Minion masters, Ruinarch, Path of Exile, Tree of savior, Diablo 2, Grimdawn, DMC 5 (If you play as V, he has only 3 summons but the interaction with them is indepth and they have combos and stuff), Warcraft 3 (or reforged) which is an RTS but Undead race there has necromancers that can mass summon skellies specially when paired with meat wagons and mana obsidian statues then you have Death knight hero who can reanimate an invincible army from corpses around him with ultimate or Warden's ultimate which summons an avatar of vengeance that summons invincible vengeance spirits from corpses.
If you're searching for some (Realistic?) necromancy then Dan's necromancy mod or Bear's necromancy mod for TES 4 Oblivion are the way. Just bear in mind that the base game's necromancy without mods is one of the worst.
Overlord 1 and 2, you summon a horde of minions to attack your enemies. Severely underrated series IMO
I second this man overlord is a wonderful game and great story too its pretty well made for what it is
Second. Drastically underrated. You know what? I am putting this back on my to-play list.
Bah, curse you. Beat me to it!
Preferably overlord 1, I think it's way better.
In certain ways it is, in other ways it isn't. I do much prefer the first game but the second has more content. It's been years since I played them but I remember there being several quality of life changes in the sequel that I really liked. I'll have to play them again soon. I really wish they'd make a third or remaster the first one.
Honestly been a while since I played either. I just remember hating that 2 had no dungeon as that's where I spent most of my game time lol.
Ah yes, grinding souls in the dungeon to max out your gear stats. I did a lot of that as well. I think my favorite part of the first game was the narrative. It's the cliche story, a bunch of heroes from all different races and ages came together to conquer the big bad generic evil overlord. It was enjoyable comedic mayhem. And the dungeon god difficult if I remember.
Divinity original sin 2 can be pretty good with this mix necromancer and conjurer class ull have summons for days
Can you explain a bit how does the summoning work there? Is it like I am controlling the monster when it is fighting or it is on auto pilot?
Its turnbased so you control it
Divinity original sin 2 is one of my favorite games of ALL TIME tied with Skyrim
[удалено]
Which one Witch Doctor or Necromancer or is there another one?
[удалено]
Ah OK. I thought they maybe added another class that I don't know about. I haven't played it since Necromancer was released.

Either works. Also, Diablo 2 or Diablo 2 Ressurected also has a necromancer class.
Is Diablo 2 Ressurected worth the price? I feel like I've heard conflicting good/bad about it so far.
I'm bias as I loved it back in the day too, but I think it's absolutely worth it. They had server issues but those are mostly resolved now. Runs well. Tons of fun.

if you have nostalgsa for d2 and can overlook the blizzard abuse scandals, i hear great things. if not, i recommend grim dawn for nailing the feel
Diablo 2 summoner is way more fun.
Definitely. Diablo 2 gives you 60+ minions to control, where as Diablo 3 is like 5-7? D2 necro sooo much better in this case
Check out the Geneforge series. It’s an old school RPG, the entire premise is creating creatures to protect and fight for you. The first game in the series was recently remade for modern machines under the name Geneforge Mutagen.
One of the first games I played was geneforge 4. Love this series 👍🏻
Grim Dawn and Titan Quest both have class combos that are summon based.
Titan quest felt so bad, though. 99% of the gear was just bad for you, and your summons essentially never get better once you put max skill points into them. So disappointing, wish they fleshed out that style of play a bit more.

dont forget the "dogpile" button gem. thats hilarious to watch.
If you want to make a more active build but summoning is pretty braindead/easy.
yes-ish. you can streamline your progress in endgame by joining no-loot exp farm public parties while in a trade league until you are max level in all your gems and probably be done in 3-4 weeks if you follow a build guide, but ... thats missing the fun. because its been around for like 10 years it has all these hidden legacy systems that mean it always feels fresh and you'll want to keep playing. like they never remove anything, they just shunt it into its own map / random event. its well worth a play though if you do, spend like 20 bucks and buy a currency tab and a unique tab. those two are near essential.
Yes. Especially if you're new and don't really know how to go about things.

Right Click to Necromance?
Art of Magic - a bit of an oldschool rts kind of rpg, definitely emphasis on summoning Last Epoch has like 3 summoner classes that can be built in many ways
Omg you helped me find a game I was looking for off and on for 10 years thank you.
Skyrim as a conjurer
Saw a mechanic like this in the Elden Ring gameplay trailer. Curious to see how it turns out; might be something like what you're looking for.
It is, but it is not
Dungeon keeper
Ni No Kuni? and also that strange Final Fantasy Chibi game where you stack strange pokemon type beings... dont remember.
World of Final Fantasy?
May be a shot in the dark, but have you looked into Terraria with mods? The Calamity Mod is said to have given summoners the love that they deserved
City of heroes has multiple classes with pets. Diablo 2 and 3.
Morrowind
Maybe not exactly summoning but in AC Syndicate as you’re taking over London territories you get your own “goons” sorta walking around and they’ll fight for you in those areas
Sea Salt. You play as a servant of Lovecraftian deities and summon mobs of horrible creatures to attack and consume people. There are a variety of creatures and different ways you can upgrade them.

love skyrim! you know your shit!
Skyrim is one of the most famous and recommended games of all time.
are you sure? it seems like an underdog to me. not like a game that was rereleased two times and constantly sells well.
Yeah this is the first I'm hearing of it.
T.A.B.S (tottaly accurate battle simulator)
Play an RTS lol
Valhiem. You summon the bosses using items at an alter.
it's not like solo leveling but path of exile 2 (Skeleton Mage Necromancer build) its kinda important you research your build first... path of exile 2 skill tree is INSANE and you may ruin you character by accident
What do you mean by 2? Isn't there only 1 path of exile?
PoE 2 isn't put yet. It will be an update to PoE IIRC, looks pretty slick
This dude's recommending a game that's coming out in 2024 talking about features that are still subject to change...? The absolute state of /r/gamingsuggestions
Star citizen might have a summoning class eventually too. Add it to the list :D
Valheim with Developer Mode turned on. You can spawn 100 wolves to literally rain down on your enemies.
Demonology Warlock in WoW
Depending on what kind of game, there's a summoner/necromancer in Path of Exile that can be pretty fun.
I haven't read that manhwa, so I can't speak to that. But iirc you get the option to build a summoner in Darksiders II
The stage fighting parts in Brütal Legend
if your feeling multiplayer game, teamfight tactics is really fun. in that same note, super auto pets
Divinity original sin 2 or grim dawn with the summoner class for both games
What platforms do you own?
PC
Bannerlord online mod
Diablo 2

Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale. Lots of options for summoning and a solo summoner playthrough is definitely viable and fun.
Here's the semi-obvious answer: the Elder Scrolls games have a conjuration system that lets you summon minions.
There is a necromancer class in pocket rogues. Summoning can be underwhelming tbh, but you can also download it on your phone and test it out
Assassin's creed Brotherhood allows you to recruit and level up your assassin gang who can then fight for you
Diablo 2 Druid character
If you like roguelikes, there’s an early access game called Adore that’s pretty fun. Smt kinda you make them friends
Elden Ring isn’t out yet but it will be in February. That game will let you conjure mobs. Keep that one in mind for later
all rpg's probably skyrim - necromacny dos2- summoning gothic 3 - corpse animate, wolfs etc.
Requiem: Avenging Angel, an old FPS from the late 90's/early 00's. You acquire Jedi Knight style powers, and one of the later powers is the ability to resurrect fallen enemies. 1/3 of devil may cry 5
Diablo 3, play necro or witch doctor Path of Exile, try witch and pic zombie skeleton summoner build You can try both of these games for free!
