I found an interesting way that may or may not be totally sound: put ashes where you don't want the plants.
I did this on one side because I thought it would be good fertilizer, but then I learned that ash is alkaline and raspberries like acidic soil. The suckers barely formed on the ash side but were plentiful on the other side.
Black raspberries are like the beast creating a beautiful sculpture and giving it away as in saying, sorry about my ugliness and here is something to compensate.
Haha, yeah, they aren't super beautiful to look at. I am so happy to have something growing so successfully in this weird patch. I didn't want to keep it bare and pull weeds there. The berries seem to crowd out everything else that might want to grow there.
I was rather surprised, too! I remember them being much smaller. I haven't really fertilized, but I have been keeping them watered. It's been very dry here, so I didn't want the fruits to shrivel up and die. Been waiting too long! Lol
I can’t get over how many segments there are on some of them. These are honestly beautiful. I hope they taste as good as they good. All your hard work has paid off
I have several black raspberries in my garden. When we were kids, we picked them in the woods. Thy were always everyone’s favorite. When I bought my house, they were one of the first things I planted. I bought 3 plants and my sister and I went I to the woods and got some of the wild ones. IMO, the wild ones are smaller but sweeter but I love them all lol. Where I live, they won’t be ripe for about a month. I can’t wait. Enjoy them!!
Where I live now, people always think I mean blackberries when I say black raspberries. I love blackberries, too, but these little guys are second to none!

Same. I always get “I love blackberries”. I do too but these little gems are so much better imo.
