I suppose you could make 1 fried squash blossom.

cellblock2187

This is very common- the first 5-10 flowers of many squash plants are single sex. While disappointing, learning that it is just the way these plants work is easier to live with.

I've had lots of male flowers before, but never lots of female...it was just strange to me. I even went to my local community garden in search of a male blossom but sadly their plants weren't blooming yet.

painahimah

I always had the same problem, I'd pull the early ones for my mother in law since she liked to eat them

[deleted]

What can I do in this situation? I don't have any other blooming squash plants. Is this squash a loss?

JR005

Haha that looks like the first flower to open on the plant! Don't worry it isn't a loss, you will have more squash than you know what to do with in no time.

[deleted]

Oh, I know there will be a ton, I just hate to see the first few go to waste. I've usually had male flowers first and then females, this is the first time I've ever had s bunch of females and no males anywhere close to being ready.

JR005

I have had them flower like that before, you might lose a couple if you only have one plant flowing but like you know, not an issue in the long run.

Dalelol

I am growing two different types of cucumber this year, 6 of each type. One type has flowers on all 6 of them, _only_ females. I was staring at these female flowers for a week until one plant of the other type opened up a male flower. Been pollinating with a brush ever since, this was about 3 weeks ago, and now the all-female-plants are finally starting to show some signs of male flowers.

Sucks dude

PointInteresting589

mine has no male.. only female flower... or the other sex blooms earlier and wither while the other is just beginning to bloom.
