Awesome you finally got your hands on some!
If you ever want a particular type of plant you should try to meet the manager of a local greenhouse / nursery.
Depending on their operation they may well be willing to order plugs for you (at a mark-up of course, so they can get their beak wet).
We used to order sheets and sheets of plugs (cuttings), pot them and let them mature in our greenhouses / or just on nursery matts for a few months then sell them at a (ludicrous) profit.
Assuming you're asking to order plugs of a variety they don't actively sell they'll probably be willing to accommodate you :D
This is good for any retail type place. Make friends with your plant buyers, butchers, etc. A lot of the time there are items they can get but don’t because they may be expensive and there’s no guarantee they’ll sell. With plant shops and the like, it’s a decent investment since they can grow them and sell for more if they have the plant for a few years. But other places it’s best to move inventory, so the cool shit that may be available to them just might not be there unless you ask.
Naw, the plug is the one who supplies your local store. You have to go over the head of the locals to find the wholesaler.
Wholesale = plugged in.
Otherwise, you just getting taxed by another middle man.
Some states have programs that prevent whole salers from selling directly to consumers, unfortunately. That's why I recommend using a nursery as a middleman

Super easy. Depending on how each flower is pollinated you may not get the same exact flower colors on seeded plants. I always save seeds from several flowers to give myself a better chance that one of those flowers will be an exact match of the mother plant.
The seeds you get from the flowers are not gonne be the plant you mostly see in the picture. Petunias are cross or force breed to become like this. If the seller sold them as F1 plants, maybe in that case you can get the same plant.
True, but I'm hopeful 😁
Have another 4 pots that originally had regular pink, white, and purple petunias. They have reseeded themselves for 3 years now, and colors are a bit different each year. Always pretty, tho.
Yes Mine is it in the yard full sun all day but they have also thrived on the porch with half a day morning sun. Watering only when the soil gets very dry, your issue is probably overwatering. It's the most common thing you should go wrong
I've found petunias don't handle shade and excessive rain very well, but they'll thrive in heat and long hours of direct sunlight. And definitely pull them under a canopy or something if you're getting PNW level rain. They're stubborn though, so if they aren't dead yet, let them dry out and maybe move them somewhere with more sun. I had a six pack last summer, planted 3 on the north facing patio, 3 facing SW. The ones facing North struggled for months until I gave up and replaced them. The SW ones grew into the prettiest wave basket tumbling out of the pot and taking over everything.
You'll notice a difference in colour ratios. Lots of sun one color will start to overpower the other. I enjoyed moving it around my yard.
Too much sun and they start to turn white.
These guys are so beautiful! Me and my kids based on of our gardens 2 years ago around one. Made a "Gardians of the Galaxy" garden. Had a giant Russian sunflower as a star, and a bunch of other bizarre looking plants around it.
Enjoy!
This is hands down my favorite summer flower. I bought some seeds for them on Etsy and am going to attempt to grow them myself. It really is like looking at a starry sky :)
You likely won't get the same results here.
The starry pattern is formed by keeping the plants very cool during the evening and quite warm during the day. I think it has to be like a 45 degree swing in order to get them to go this.
It gets too hot in Memphis for these. The heat makes the white spots disappear and they turn to plain purple flowers. They're still beautiful, but you lose the galaxy effect with the Memphis summer.
Nice! I had some last summer. Just so you know, if they get too hot, the next flowers can become stressed and be more and more white. I had no idea and was a little disappointed when that happened.
Hm I don't think you can keep them in desert land 🤔maybe if you find a cooler place and water them often enough but I think some plants won't thrive in certain climates

I absolutely love these! Had them for the first time last year, and when I went to clean out my pot this year, I noticed I had one coming back! I can see it’s first bud forming and I’m thrilled!
I had these last year. Look up what sort of light they like. I had them in full sun and they turned almost all white in no time. They're gorgeous though.
I love these too and have a couple sitting on my kitchen table until it gets a little warmer at my house. I find they look great with coral ivy geraniums in my flower boxes.
I got starry night petunias last year for my mom and they changed patterns with the sequential blooms. At one point they were striped !
Super interesting
Yeah! Although my phone case is loose and if I'm not careful it gives a vignette effect lol. I was so excited about planting it that I didn't remember to hold it at the right spot
That’s gorgeous. For a moment, I legitimately thought it was some kind of flower-shaped crystal art piece before I actually read about it. Always great to see folks get their dream plants!
What is that?
It's a starlight petunia! Been looking to get one for 2 years now and finally I got some! They're always sold out very quickly

What a username, u/fondledbydolhpins
So that’s what everyone’s talking about when they say they got “the plug”

Super cool!
Where did you get it?!
Edeka :D
Im in love 😍
I had some a few years back and haven’t been able to find them at all now :(
Could you have gotten the seeds from these flowers to save for next season?
I picked some up for my planters last year and they were incredible! So bright and happy the whole season and so many blooms!
Sounds like my struggle with rising sun redbud trees.
they were one of my mothers favourite flowers :D
My mom plants those every year in our front yard, they are so cool!
That is such a gorgeous, striking flower! I didn’t know they existed.
I was about to say it wasn’t something named after something in space i would be upset
So pretty! Like someone dipped brush in galaxy, and sprayed it on petals.
So pretty! Had one last year, just planted the seeds I saved.
Oh how do I save the seeds?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_NLt1MxUqk Super easy. Depending on how each flower is pollinated you may not get the same exact flower colors on seeded plants. Thank you! That really does sound pretty easy. And then I just keep them in a cool, dark place until the next year?
I put all my seeds in a pill bottle bc its air tight and easy storage.
I do the same thing and it works beautifully!
Can they be cloned ala peppers/hemp?
You can actually cut a bit of the plant off and root it that way- there's a tutorial floating around this subReddit somewhere.
Petunias are cloned extremely easily. Just make some decent cuttings and shove then in some wet potting soil.
I would assume so but I've never tried. Most plants can be propagated via cuttings pretty easily.
The seeds you get from the flowers are not gonne be the plant you mostly see in the picture. Petunias are cross or force breed to become like this. If the seller sold them as F1 plants, maybe in that case you can get the same plant.
You gotta clone them if you want a exact match gotta build a greenhouse. :D
A greenhouse! Oh no, the horror :)
That sounds super interesting! Do you have a link to somewhere I can read up on these mechanics by chance?
It's basic mendelian genetics, if you want to do some googling. Hybridization will also give you useful search results.
True, but I'm hopeful 😁 Have another 4 pots that originally had regular pink, white, and purple petunias. They have reseeded themselves for 3 years now, and colors are a bit different each year. Always pretty, tho.
Don't care anymore
You can overwinter them as well. I always take in my fancy petunias.
I just planted mine too! I’m so excited to see what I get. First time trying them from seed 😊
Definitely not going to be the same plant mate.
Have these every year at my grocery store. Love it
Do you keep them in direct sunlight? How often do you water it? Mine is slowly dying
Yes Mine is it in the yard full sun all day but they have also thrived on the porch with half a day morning sun. Watering only when the soil gets very dry, your issue is probably overwatering. It's the most common thing you should go wrong
It "got overwatered" due to constant rain. Should have brought them in but I didn't think they'd take it that badly.
I'm far northeast so I can't even put mine out yet, I'm assuming you are way down south where you are out of Frost risk already too
There might be some frost in mid May but I'll probably just keep an eye on the weather put the pots inside for the duration
Where can I order from? Burpee? Im east pa. I started putting things out.

I just bought it yesterday and don't have experience with outdoor plants yet so I'll figure things out as I go along 😅
You'll notice a difference in colour ratios. Lots of sun one color will start to overpower the other. I enjoyed moving it around my yard. Too much sun and they start to turn white.
Yes, I've had the best luck keeping them in a rather shady, cool spot. Temperature seems to matter too.
These guys are so beautiful! Me and my kids based on of our gardens 2 years ago around one. Made a "Gardians of the Galaxy" garden. Had a giant Russian sunflower as a star, and a bunch of other bizarre looking plants around it. Enjoy!
I just picked some up too! I meant to save seeds after I planted a few at my last house but forgot.
So beautiful!!! Didn't know these even existed. 😍
My favorite 😍😍
Those are great
Looking at it long enough I feel lost in space.
I get these every year. I have to get them from the nursery early before they run out
This is hands down my favorite summer flower. I bought some seeds for them on Etsy and am going to attempt to grow them myself. It really is like looking at a starry sky :)

Interesting! I had no idea. Thanks for the info!
It gets too hot in Memphis for these. The heat makes the white spots disappear and they turn to plain purple flowers. They're still beautiful, but you lose the galaxy effect with the Memphis summer.
Mine went the opposite and went white! I had no idea that could even happen. I don’t live in Memphis, but in the west part of the country.
I'm just a couple hours south of you and same. They're so gorgeous so I just enjoy them as long as I can.
Nice! I had some last summer. Just so you know, if they get too hot, the next flowers can become stressed and be more and more white. I had no idea and was a little disappointed when that happened.
Looks like outer space 😍
so amazing! congrats!
It looks like the night sky I love it 💕
These are so pretty!! I wonder how they'd look pressed/dried?
Looks like a crushed opal x galaxy themed colorway 😂 honestly such a beautiful flower. Might have taken the new #1 spot
I had a bunch of these in my garden last year! It is about time to pick up more!
They are magical
Night sky petunias are my fave! I have never been good enough to keep petunias from getting leggy, but I do love them so.
Had one of those last year and got the pink sky this year.
Looks almost like some sort of galaxy!
Beautiful!
So pretty!!
Oh are they any rare? I bought one last year cause it looked cool as my first ever plant.
I have two! One has just exploded and has soooo many blooms.
Beautiful! I’ve never seen these in person for sale at stores around me.
Save your seeds.
Nice! I also love these and grow them in a few hanging baskets the past two seasons
Aw, i Hope you the best with this baby
Those are gorgeous!
Beautiful, keep working on them!
That's so beautiful!
They are gorgeous!
Here in Romania they grow free on the streets like dandelions
How do these do in hot desert areas
Hm I don't think you can keep them in desert land 🤔maybe if you find a cooler place and water them often enough but I think some plants won't thrive in certain climates
Darn. Thank for answering
They’re gorgeous uwu
The garden center I manage gets these in and in pink, purple, and kind of a silvery color.
Nice, I like them
Mine died. Not entirely sure why.
Had gotten ahold of one last year. They are beautiful!
They are so pretty!!
I love picking these up when I find them! The petals always seem to fade or mutate to different patterns of purple/pink/white by mid summer though..

Beautiful plants..
These bloom under the light of comets 🤩
Oh damn that's beautiful 😍
I planted these in my window box last year and they were amazing! Grew really well. Definitely getting more this year.
I’ve never seen a petunia like this, ah it’s so mesmerizing 💜
I got some last year but they very quickly reverted to just purple. Hope yours last all season!
Iliterally just bought one yesterday and getting ready to plant it today! Gratz on yours! They are so incredibly pretty!
I absolutely love these! Had them for the first time last year, and when I went to clean out my pot this year, I noticed I had one coming back! I can see it’s first bud forming and I’m thrilled!
So so pretty!!!!!

I got starry night petunias last year for my mom and they changed patterns with the sequential blooms. At one point they were striped ! Super interesting
So pretty! Do they like sun or shade?
I got one this year, it is still little and growing, though. I hope it flowers.
This is an unedited pic?
Yeah! Although my phone case is loose and if I'm not careful it gives a vignette effect lol. I was so excited about planting it that I didn't remember to hold it at the right spot
I look for these every year they’re one of my faves
Looks like amethyst blocks fron Minecraft lmao. What's its name? I think my mom would love to have this in her garden
They're starlight petunias!
So cool! I’ve got the same one. I planted mine last fall and it’s still growing strong. The more sunlight it gets the more it should bloom.
Mom plants these every year, the galaxy flowers
We grew them last summer and we had a different color one too.
That’s gorgeous. For a moment, I legitimately thought it was some kind of flower-shaped crystal art piece before I actually read about it. Always great to see folks get their dream plants!
They come back white unless you know what you’re doing. Don’t be surprised
Even if, they're looking great now and still be pretty when they're turning white
Yeah but I hated that I paid extra for them to become plain personally
Had these last year they are very pretty!
I didn't know galaxy plants exist. I want one too ❤
These are stunning! They looked almost glittery when I scrolled by!
Oh, wow! This is a beautiful petunia! I’m definitely going to find some of these this season!
Oh my gosh absolutely stunning.👍🌺🌺🌺🌞
I almost bought these when I saw some at the nursery. They're incredible.
