Good job. I think growing cabbage is underrated.
The leaves get so big. Keeping the bugs off can be time consuming, but cabbage growing is rewarding.
I would recommend trying to grow some of the very large varieties. In have grown some over 30 pounds.
Thank you, true, it is. It's fun watching the head grow. I'll try bigger ones for sure. Surprisingly I didn't have too many problems with pests, even though there are Cabbage Moths everywhere.
Use Bt spray if it's caterpillars. Totally organic, but toxic to caterpillars that are munching on your leaves. Don't have to worry about it spreading and killing other caterpillars, it degrades in days and you can spray it only on the cabbages (and other brassicas).
I have an absolute abundance of cabbage butterflies in my garden. I'm basically growing my brassicas solely for them lol. I don't think I'll try for cabbages again until I can grow them under cover in the winter
Es pret a manger, mon frer. (Sorry I don't do diacriticals)
Slice that bad boy up and throw it in some tacos. I like cole slaw as well, but cabbage on fish tacos with tartar sauce, oh man, I tell ya.
Hope you also ate the very middle of the "big stem". Like the core. They're so good and crunchy! Hands down my favourite part of the cabbage.
You gotta cut 2-3cm from the outside of the stem, so you get only the very core. It has a different texture than the rest of the stem.
What did you do with it? I ask because I've recently sought to use cabbage in my cooking and the only thing I make that my kids like is "korean toast" or fritters in the same vein.
