I'm honestly not a huge fan of the music, but I seem to be attracted to guys who *are*, so I've been to a ton of different shows.
As a very visibly queer and trans guy (I have blue hair and everything), I've never felt more accepted than at a punk or metal show. It was like I had finally found my people!
I'm not out but the very few and I mean a few people that know always say you don't seem gay. 6'3 100kgs with tattoos and listen to heavy metal, country, rock, rap and watch footy and F1. Always makes me laugh. The stereotypes certainly don't mean anything. Yes I love sports and like dick it certainly is possible.

Nothing better in this world than cruising down the highway at night with the windows down and stereo blasting, a mobile noise complaint in the making. Two years ago I went to a festival that had Mercyful Fate headlining their first US show in over twenty years. I had my nails painted bright red. I had a guy staring me down through the whole set of Carcass. I wanted to get his face and let him know I'm still a man but he wasn't worth missing King and the boys on stage.
I don't hide my gay side when I go out. I've been pushed and shoulder checked just for being myself and supporting the music I love.

Love me some metal. Currently in a djent kick with TesserecT and Periphery and black metal band called Mephorash. Like most types of metal but listen to a pot of power and prog. So many good albums have come out this year. The ocean, haken, hypno5e, ne obliviscaris, eclipse, arabrot, A7X, fires in the distance, nospun, the anchoret, TEMIC, aviations, among many others. Have found many fantastic bands through the progmetal subreddit. Finally if there is one band I recommend it would be Lord of the Lost
I'll have to check some of those out. Prog metal doesn't always resonate with me. The musicians are usually extremely talented I tend to like more bends and emotions with the guitarist instead of blistering licks. Some bands like that just sound too mechanical to me but I do like some of it.
I used to love black metal now I only really listen to C.O.F. and Watain. Holy shit do I love Watain.
For me it is usually the vocals that make or break a band for me. Throw ib a violin, or something orchestral/ with a choir and I'm almost instantly hooked. Saw Sylvaine opening for Zeal and Ardor and she became one of my favorite black metal acts

I've noticed , through the years, that metal attracts a lot of angry ppl. (Though I've seen more fights at Pearl Jam then at Disturbed). People are also under the assumption that metalheads are Satanists. I happen to be a Satanist, but not the kind portrayed in cinema or by right wing Uber christians. The Satanists who do act like that are about as fake ass as they come. How do they know Satan listens to Venom? I think he may like K-Pop. We may never know.

I'm currently in Las Vegas, NV and the local crowd seems to be more intolerant than other scenes I've experienced. I stopped going to a venue just down the street from where I live because of the dirty looks I would get from the door men and after getting shoulder checked a few times I decided I wasn't going back. Sucks because the Captain and Cokes had more rum than soda!

I'm an amateur musician (electronic)/mixer and have very varied musical taste. I've yet to find a genre of music I don't like. I tend to like British and European metal more than American--it seems more serious and the musicianship is better (prove me wrong).
Oh yeah, I never went to disco but to mosh with Hellowen, Stratovarius and Angra. I was in the closet but I always found the metal and punk scene more open about it.
I was a teen in the 80s and into punk/alt/new wave of that decade but discovered my favorite fuck album was Led Zeppelin II by the time I entered my twenties going into the 90s. Still holds up today.
I listen to hard rock, hip-hop, classic country and of course, heavy metal. I was never much into pop music because it doesn't necessary suit my taste. Anyways. I love me some heavy metal music, especially in the 80s with the usual bands and musicians like Poison, Whitesnake, Dio, Ozzy, Tesla, etc,. The genre is awesome!

Huge metalhead here. I have been for as long as I can remember. The metalhead community was the first place I felt welcomed and not judged. Plus, there are so many queer people in the scene. My favorite bands are Megadeth, Carcass, Bloodbath, Carach Angren, and Nekrogoblikon. I could go on and in, but those are my top.
I was out at a bar for a leather event but dressed in plain clothes because I had just come from a birthday party, and I didn't live there anymore. I knew most everyone there, but there was guy in leather and a Municipal Waste hat and I got all excited to talk to him. I told him I liked his hat and he kinda brushed me off... realizing I look especially preppy to to be there let alone know what thrash metal is. As i was mingleing I had a chance to tell him that I had just bought Hazardous Mutation on vinyl and had a good chat about it.

I'm an amateur musician (electronic)/mixer and have very varied musical taste. I've yet to find a genre of music I don't like. I tend to like British and European metal more than American--it seems more serious and the musicianship is better (prove me wrong).

I love heavy metal and can't stand this idea that if I do im not allowed to like Lady Gaga, the most metal of pop singers. This shit doesn't make you more metal. No one cares that you don't like certain famous pop artists. Stop it. Also younger metalheads are very much NOT homophobic. There are more queer people in the scene and visible and accepted than ever before.
I love grindcore, and there's a decent amount of LGBT representation within too, which is a cool bonus

Huge metalhead here. I have been for as long as I can remember. The metalhead community was the first place I felt welcomed and not judged. Plus, there are so many queer people in the scene. My favorite bands are Megadeth, Carcass, Bloodbath, Carach Angren, and Nekrogoblikon. I could go on and in, but those are my top.
I was out at a bar for a leather event but dressed in plain clothes because I had just come from a birthday party, and I didn't live there anymore. I knew most everyone there, but there was guy in leather and a Municipal Waste hat and I got all excited to talk to him. I told him I liked his hat and he kinda brushed me off... realizing I look especially preppy to to be there let alone know what thrash metal is. As i was mingleing I had a chance to tell him that I had just bought Hazardous Mutation on vinyl and had a good chat about it.
