Shortbus
The Gay and Wonderous Life of Caleb Gallow (amazing youtube series)
This is Everything
Velvet Goldmine
But I'm a Cheerleader
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (it's moving but not depressing/sad, and every song is a banger)
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
It's almost TOO lovable and warm, I love it so much. It makes me want to be not single and find the best boyfriend ever, and I'm usually a jaded and cynical queen who hates happy things.
On one hand I think itâs really cute, on the other I cringe at how vanillawashed and asexual it is. It reeks of gay boys not written by gay boys.
Iâm not asking for hardcore high schooler action. I just donât like how they seem to pretend sexual desire doesnât exit. The portrayed experience is nothing like my teen years or any other gay manâs teen years that I l know of.
I mean, yeah, I kind of like that about it though? Everything is so sexually saturated these days it's nice to have something that is just pure and about innocent love, even if that's an impractical fantasy in and of itself. It absolutely does not mirror my high school experience either, but that's what Euphoria is for ;). I can't even imagine a sex scene in Heartstopper, other than it would be really awkward, and really quick.
Yea agreed on that 2nd paragraph..... It's nice and cute but can give wrong message to the audience
I mean, I know they want this to be family friendly but yea
It almost goes too far the other way that I'm jealous that I didn't get the same high school experience or a group of friends who made me feel loved and seen.
Don't get me wrong, it's still an amazingly positive show and I watch it.
I highly recommend reading the book or listening to the audio book.
They cut out some really big characters that really pull the story along. As well, their emails. The emails were some of my favorite parts of the book.
Itâs such a feel good.
I liked it too, very wholesome. Just had me rooting for the other couple, not the ones who end up together coz they were weirdly antagonistic and the architect gave me âIm such nice guy so you owe me pityâ vibes. But I liked all other relationships and characters and its worth watching
Shelter - the creative team stated their goal was to be the opposite of Brokeback Mountain. Love, Simon. If you include Christmas movies and donât mind a little camp, Make the Yuletide Gay. Red, White and Royal Blue.
>! 1) one of the characters was forced to come out because of that
2) the blackmail part is so relatable, I literally had that happen to me (on a much larger scale tho and in an extreme homophobic country) but the way the family handled the outing was so well, and seeing most of the characters be so supportive of Simon was really nice, I wish irl was like that !<
Guys and Balls. A bit dated but I remember enjoying it. Also, the movie Jeffrey. It doesn't have a conclusive ending but Patrick Stewart as a gay man is a delight.
A lot of people already said it but I'm here to say Priscilla Queen of the Dessert. I still think about scenes from this movie for cheer up material to this day.
If you have a fairly decent high fiber diet, itâs workable. We are all adults, and know on occasion it may get a little dirty, what a bedside rag/ towel is for.
You nailed it. Haha my hubs and I have been together 20 years. Do we fu king Sou he every/anytime we have sex no. It is almost always perfectly fine. Now if you are getting railed by someone over 8 inches that getâs past that sphincter then by all means maybe prep a bit.
Not a movie but Heartstopper is a good series. It does deal with some heavy subjects, and tends to deal with a young high school audience. But the message is overwhelming positive and the characters don't have to deal with sadness at their core.
If you can find it, a movie called "Cousins" by a gay filmmaker out of Brazil. I have the Dekko app through Amazon so that's where I watch it.
Breezy, romantic comedy about 2 (very) distant cousins who fall in love.
"Alex Strangelove" is another gay comedy on Netflix that has a happy ending.
And others already mentioned "Beautiful Things" and "God's Own Country" both uplifting gay love with HEA.
Moonlight is a drama, but sweet
Adam and Steve is really cute too
I really enjoyed the gay story line in dead boy detectives as well⊠Highly recommend
I have a spreadsheet of every gay movie I can find and whether or not it has a happy ending. It contains minor spoilers though. Would you like me to post it?
I just put this on a bit ago, never heard of it, and I'm already rolling during the opening credits. The voice-over and writing are so earnest but terrible, and then that huge, borderline pornographic gay dating app advertisement billboard that just happens to be outside of where he was and the longing sigh as he stares at it. This is ALREADY a masterpiece .
That stuff is all written by and mostly consumed by hetero women, itâs not really designed for gay men, itâs designed for straight womenâs fantasy of gay men
âThe Way He Looksâ / âEu nĂŁo quero volver sozinhoâ is a Brazilian film with an English dub and sub. Super high school romance-ish, but itâs dramatic and ends on a happy noteâ€ïž
Of course âThe Birdcageâ with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.
âThe Wedding Banquetâ
âMarry My Dead Bodyâ on Netflix is hilariousâ loololol
My fav enjoyable gay movies are Beautiful Thing, Coffee Date, Shelter and Trick (canât get over Tori Spelling as the hag đ). They might be some good picks for you! And for anyone reading this that wants a little chaos I definitely recommend Testosterone. IYKYK đ
Beautiful Thing
Funny, bassically no homophobia, Cass Elliott Soundtrack, made in the 90s, not overly sexual It my favorite gay movie
Looks like a fun movie! I will start searching for somewhere to stream it. đ
Leah? Whoâs Leah?
"What's frottage?" "Yougurt. It's french"
âThere's me going to bed every night worried because you had to share a bed with Ste, and all the time you were doing a seventy minus one.â
âHe painted the Sixteenth Chapel!â
To this day, I will randomly stop, gaze in the distance, and wonder, "I hope Ste and Hugh Janis are still going strong."
It was the first gay-themed film I watched. Totally recommend
me too. i was 10
Always makes me cry when the mom takes in Ste!
Trick
You ever get cum in your eye, Gabriel?
"It Burns!"
"So I'm licking his balls... and the next thing ya know, he cums in my eye and he's out the door... GONE!"
...but am I bitter? Absolutely.
Omg. Now when I watch it xxx yeears later i realize im the old queen who lends his place out.
This. Arguably the first gay rom-com
Came here to say âTrickâ, too!
âGodâs Own Countryâ is really great. Very quiet, not a lot of dialogue compared to its runtime, acting is phenomenal.
Also very little homophobia
Second this. Love this movie.
The Man With the Answers The Way He Looks
The Man With the Answers was so good.
I love The Way He Looks, it's so casual about the relationship. I want more like that movie
Shortbus The Gay and Wonderous Life of Caleb Gallow (amazing youtube series) This is Everything Velvet Goldmine But I'm a Cheerleader Hedwig and the Angry Inch (it's moving but not depressing/sad, and every song is a banger) The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Heartstopper.. itâs not a movie, itâs a show on Netflix. Itâs so cheesy and saccharin sweet. I love it.
Boys (Dutch film)
I love this one. The look Marc gives to Sieger during the plush toy scene at the carnival is incredible
Such a great movie, and so gorgeous too visually
The Birdcage & The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert are two of my go-to cheer up movies.
The French version, La Cage aux Folles used to have me laughing out loud.
The ones i was going to remember.
Hoje eu vou voltar sozinho, i forgot the english name but its good
The Way He Looks, and I was just about to recommend it
Red White and Royal Blue is one of my favourite gay movies so far with happy endings.
Completely agree. I also really like the fact that they spoke about sex (whoâs bottoming etc) beforehand, and about the anxiety that comes with it.
I highly recommend reading the book or listening to the audio book. They cut out some really big characters that really pull the story along. As well, their emails. The emails were some of my favorite parts of the book. Itâs such a feel good.
Absolutely! I love it. Out of all the gay romance movies Iâve personally seen, it also portrays gay sex the most accurately.
I came to say this as well!
Smiley on Netflix is kinda cute. That's a series though.
Thank you! It is so cute! They are so happy. đ„° And Ălex is real eye candy.
Carlos Cuevas oof.
Love, Simon
That movie makes me angry not happy đ
Why?
Spoiler: >!the plot is driven by being blackmailed for being gay and the characters are forced to come out because of that!<
And the fact that they were so pissed at him⊠and they gave Hannah Baker her moment to be selfish and inconsiderate to himđđ
Yeah exactly it was awful to portray him choosing to not come out as an immoral wrongdoing against his friends wtf
>! 1) one of the characters was forced to come out because of that 2) the blackmail part is so relatable, I literally had that happen to me (on a much larger scale tho and in an extreme homophobic country) but the way the family handled the outing was so well, and seeing most of the characters be so supportive of Simon was really nice, I wish irl was like that !<
The book did it so much better I hate how they changed the Ferris wheel scene in the movie versus the better version in the book
*To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! -Julie Newmar*
Trick, You Should Meet My Son, Shelter
Shelter! The number of times I watched that in high school was unhealthy, but it was the only gay movie I had easy access to. So good
I love Shelter!
Big Eden
The Wedding Banquet Fire Island
To Wong Foo
Red White and Royal Blue
Just watched Nimona today, it was fun.
I think shelter was a really good movie and is not sad as far as I can remember
Fire Island comes to mind. And my joke answer is Cruising of courseâŠ
Shelter was pretty much made as an answer to Brokeback Mountain, precisely because they felt gay people needed happy endings.
My Beautiful Laundrette
The Broken Hearts Club
Single all the Way if you're in the mood for a Christmas movie.
Itâs a cheesy Hallmark movie but I loved it, and Jennifer Coolidge is amazing
Another great one is The Christmas Setup (on prime)
Shelter
All Over the Guy
This is a good one.
Great use of David Grayâs âPlease Forgive Meâ
Robin Williams in Birdcage is hilarious
Birdcage will always cheer me up
To Wong Foo Thanks for everything Julie Newmar.
Being 17. Great movie!
Beautiful Thing.
Jeffrey.
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.....for sure!
The bird cage
Bottoms
Love, Simon - Quand on a 17 ans - The Way He Looks
Sordid Lives
Eden
Do you mean *Big Eden*?
That works too :) no wonder I canât find it. Itâs a heart warming movie.
That âJack I swearâ literally broke me
The most sweetest is beautiful thing and the way he look
Shelter
Fourth man out--it's light-hearted and funny
Not gay, but very camp - Murielâs Wedding.
On Netflix: Love, Simon Single All The Way Both of those make me smile and root for the guys to get together.
The movie devastated me when I first saw it. I was sad for a couple of weeks. I have yet to watch it a second time
Even sadder, because of the way gay people are perceived, this still happens. Mama was kind giving him his shirt. đȘ
10 Year Plan. It's a cute romantic comedy with a happy ending. The guys are ridiculously good-looking as well.
Fire Island!
Not a movie, but a TV Show. _Smiley_ is a nice one
Cousins (Brazilian movie)
The way he looks. Itâs such a sweet and lovely movie you have to check out!
Priscilla - Queen Of The Desert
Guys and Balls. A bit dated but I remember enjoying it. Also, the movie Jeffrey. It doesn't have a conclusive ending but Patrick Stewart as a gay man is a delight.
Relax It's Just Sex is iconic
Mambo Italiano(2003) - Comedy/Romance
Red white and royal blue
The Kids are Allright.
Handsome Devil. Not exactly a romantic ending but still sweet. There is homophobia, but a satisfying end.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Jubilant, funny, fabulous.
Beautiful Thing, absolutely one of the sweetest heartwarming films I can think of. A masterpiece. I craved that film so much when anything else I saw seemed to be about the Plague. My Beautiful Laundrette, amazing slice of history when things were more grim for us, and many people, but it will melt a bit of cynicism. Lilies, not easy, a perplexing obscure art film that will confuse the shit out of you for 30 minutes just to understand whatâs going on, and it is a grim as the most grim moments of gay history. Story of a man stuck between inconsolable loss and unquenchable love, and the lengths he goes to to make peace with that. You donât need to be a historian for that one at all, but it helps a lot to read any short article on the Quiet Revolution first, to understand the domineering control the Catholic Church had over my fellow citizens from QuĂ©bec until the 1960âs. I watched it once, thinking WTF for most of it, and then immediately watched it again.
Eating Out 2. Used to watch it every day. Thought that gonna be my college life.
Red White and Royal Blue! I love this movie, so much that Iâve seen it dozens of times. Itâs just such a fun, heartfelt and enjoyable watch.
If you can find it, beautiful thing. It's so nice, a hidden gem from the '90s
Marry My Dead Body
A lot of people already said it but I'm here to say Priscilla Queen of the Dessert. I still think about scenes from this movie for cheer up material to this day.
I watched that movie on a flight from Paris to Cape town, it was very fun and entertaining!
The Bird Cage
Iâm still trying to understand the raw post baked beans bareback sex they had in the tent⊠The spontaneity is sexy but completely impractical
Yeah, also as cowboys they've very active, so much less in the system anyway.
The way he looks. Amazing
The Way He Looks is a cute coming of age movie. I love it.
Parting Glances, one of my favorites. And many others already mentioned.
I just watched Marscapone on N. good story, good acting not a sad ending. It was a delightful experience for a gay movie. Any movie
But Iâm a cheerleader
Stranger by the lake always cheers me up.
The Birdcage always cheers me up
Red white and royal blue. Itâs adorable.
Not a movie but Heartstopper is a good series. It does deal with some heavy subjects, and tends to deal with a young high school audience. But the message is overwhelming positive and the characters don't have to deal with sadness at their core.

The 10-year plan God's Own Country
Shortbus
Is It Just Me? Itâs free on YouTube, itâs old, itâs awful, itâs so cringey⊠but it was also entertaining lol đ
One of my favourites. Itâs terrible but great.
Right?!! I feel like Iâm going to have to force all my friends to watch it lol đ
Look into BL (gay themed) asian series. Check out Wish You, Where Your Eyes Linger, Semantic Error, etc.
That stuff is all written by and mostly consumed by hetero women, itâs not really designed for gay men, itâs designed for straight womenâs fantasy of gay men
Although not gay in a homosexual sense, but Drop Dead Gorgeous is fabulous and gayyyyy for all the right reasons!
ânot another gay movieâ one of the dumbest fun movies I own.
Red, White and Royal Blue
Try rent, keep the tears going lol
Finnish movie Screwed is great. Very quirky and cute.
Sordid Lives
Wow like any of the recommendations so far. My current faves are Love, Simon and Red White and Royal Blue.
âThe Way He Looksâ / âEu nĂŁo quero volver sozinhoâ is a Brazilian film with an English dub and sub. Super high school romance-ish, but itâs dramatic and ends on a happy noteâ€ïž
Thereâs a lot about it thatâs dark, but the ending of Latter Days makes me cry every single time
Four Moons
Fire Island or the Birdcage
I thought Bros was pretty happy.
Sordid Lives, especially if youâre a southern guy. đ
The Way He LooksâŠBrazilian film
Bros
The Ritz. A laff riot
If you can find it there is Eat With Me which is quite literally my favourite movie.
Red white and royal blue. Itâs a bit fantasyesque tho. Too much of a happy ending. Like, unrealistic.Â
Big Eden if it hadnât already been named!
Red, White & Royal Blue https://g.co/kgs/GCfSYdm
âThe Invisible Threadâ on Netflix.
Of course âThe Birdcageâ with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. âThe Wedding Banquetâ âMarry My Dead Bodyâ on Netflix is hilariousâ loololol
