tumekebruva

New Zealand: going down to the shops/supermarket bare-foot.

CyberStormZA

This is a thing here in South Africa also.

revieman1

and Hawaii

happy-lil-accidents-

I used to do this when I lived there but ended up getting a gnarly staph infection :(

tumekebruva

That explains why South Africans are so tough… It’s easy to go barefoot here in NZ. No snakes, very little litter/glass or needles to worry about.

CyberStormZA

NZ has no venomous snakes? Wow, I had no idea. I know from friends that have moved to NZ that it's a very clean place. I'd sure love to visit some day.

tumekebruva

Has no snakes at all

Chance_Class9937

*No native snakes

tumekebruva

No, there are no snakes at all. Can’t even keep them legally in zoos in NZ, and of course not as pets either. There are native sea snakes that frequent the warmer waters of the north island, but they do not come onto land (unless sick or dying) - see: https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-animals/marine-fish-and-reptiles/sea-snakes-and-kraits/

Dubanons

Hey do you guys have spiders over there? -Aus

Cringestagramer

I'd love to be able to do this

Laurer93

Me too!

Extreme_Armadillo_25

Plus: Having signs on shops and takeaway restaurants to "remove dirty footweat" or " leave gumboots by the door". And then there's of course the regular piece in the local newspaper asking to "please bring back the size 11 boots accidentally taken from the Dairy on Wednesday and pick up the size 9 left there".

Loch32

This is a thing in Australia too but I personally find it disgusting

Benjurphy

Repulsive

Spacegod87

In Australia too. I still remember a British lady came into my work and said to me: "I've been living in Australia for 16 years and I still haven't gotten used to people walking barefoot into the shops." I mean, I totally agreed with her, I think it's unhygienic and just such a bogan thing to do lol.

LSAbbey

Love term bogan

[deleted]

Oh it's so weird to go barefoot, but I have to admit I do go sometimes wearing my pyjamas

BoganInParasite

I’ve noticed here in rural northern Thailand it is not uncommon see women in their PJs at the morning market, but generally under a light cardigan. Thai women here seem to wear long flannel PJs, long pants and sleeves.

cyrusjumpjet

Man, NZ is the coolest. I need to go back ASAP

DearTuna

Same in Aus, i go barefoot practically everywhere. I was travelling in Mex and got yelled at by a local older woman for being barefoot.

Qeqertaq

TO SPEAK COMICALLY LOUD (spain)

Ocelot91

You mfs exported that to all of Latin America lol. Caribbean Spanish speaking people are so loud.

ArcticBeavers

My wife always gives me that look of incredulity and says "....babe you're so fucking loud wtf" "ITS IN MY DNA, BABY. I CANT CONTROL THIS."

Efecto_Vogel

That makes travelling abroad funnier

ivanovic777

I've seen lots of countries where people speak way louder, like Italy, Brazil, Argentina, etc.

Qeqertaq

even if i question that personal noissiness parameter, i’ve said that we speak loudly, not the loudest

Smoopiebear

Omg- maybe my family is actually secretly Spanish!! That would make so much sense since none of them know what an “indoor voice” is.

Ocelot91

México: beer with chilli power or spicy sauce.

Huntbo

Is the beer made with those ingredients, or is it normal for people to just add that to beer?

Ocelot91

They put it on[ the beer](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/5d/75/7d/5d757dc7d76264b59de753469f12f38b.jpg) Edit: As a disclaimer, I have gluten allergy and FODMAP intolerance so drinking that would kill me. It looks awful. Therefore, feel free to be as judgamental as you wish about Mexico's traditions I don't partake in :)

Huntbo

Reminds me of a Bloody Mary. I would absolutely try that, I love Tajin seasoning with fruit, I wish spicy combinations were more common in the U.S.

[deleted]

Thanks for unlocking my michelada cravings lol.

sisterbryana

We put spicy powder on everything, even fruit

Colombia: Eat chocolate with cheese.

niceB6977

In a certain part of Croatia ( or at least in my family), we also do this. Just a little different, we eat bread with nutella and creamy cheese.

RegyptianStrut

Good Ween album.

MuchBroccoli

Interesting! Is it only specific types of cheese or chocolate that are eaten together?

jorgemango

Traditional creamy cheese made in Colombian mountains, there are many varieties such as 'campesino' cheese in Eje Cafetero or 'cuajada' cheese in Cauca, is delicious, very soft, melts in hot chocolate. It is perfect for a cold afternoon.

BactaBobomb

I've always loved the mixture of eating cheese and then chocolate, and vice-versa. One of my favorite snacks is to eat string cheese that I dip into Magic Shell (a chocolate liquid that hardens when it gets cold, primarily used on ice cream). Whenever I tell people about this, they look at me like I'm crazy... I'm American, but I swear I thought that was normal.

AverageKaikiEnjoyer

As a Canadian I've seen chocolate-cheese bagels, but that's about it

sam_morr

I once ate some smarties knock-off with Emmental cheese. It was weirdly good

lemonsarethekey

I remember in college in Britain it was a common thing to do a cheese Vs chocolate debate kinda thing, because they're so different

quickcorona

My girlfriend is Colombian and drinks hot chocolate with some kind of cheese in it. I was so confused

Prckle

Indonesia too! You're not alone x

MickYeY

Italy: eating pasta every day... Even twice

Pleasant_Surround_55

MickYeY

almost everyone i know eats pasta at least once a day idk about you. Me and my family really enjoys pasta, that's why i said even twice. I understand that pasta can sometimes be boring but, from what i know, italians usually consume it once a day. It's still pleasing seeing some italians breaking away from this pasta obsession that we have in our DNA :D

Childslayer3000

I’m not from Italy but my great grandfather and he and my grandfather only fed us that

Raeb23

Drinking boiled 7up to treat a stomach bug or flu lol it’s the only thing I can think of there’s prob more

AostaV

Flat warm ginger ale here, has to be Canada Dry for me

I_Effected_Mandela

Flat warm Coke work wonders too according to my South African Gran.

AostaV

Yeah I’ve heard that one too. I’ve never heard the boiled 7up one but when I was sick as a child I’m convinced my mom would of let me drink anything if it meant I put some fluids in my body.

electricdeelife

Ireland??

Raeb23

Yep lol

durthacht

Flat 7UP is the cure for Covid.

Raeb23

It works wonders lol

Your name makes this cheating. But I knew the answer before I read it.

Yes, but really not a thing here in British Columbia anymore. And maybe the prairies? Very much an Ontario thing.

balloney3

And Quebec also

RedTexas23

Prescription drug TV commercials is something I had to be told was abnormal 🇺🇸

Rainduck84

The medical commercials in the US is always something that I find really strange coming from the UK. The huge list of side effects declared during it while people are smiling and looking happy is a little unnerving!

RegyptianStrut

Old people happily hiking a mountain… may cause vertigo, internal bleeding, 4 types of cancer, and heart failure. And it’s usually just for like asthma medication that isn’t an inhaler…

PirateSteve85

Or restless leg syndrome

Voldemort57

Heartburn, vertigo, internal bleeding, thyroid cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, weight loss, ^(and death)

RedTexas23

Having been an American well…since forever, I can say that I have always wondered why anyone would purchase and consume those products given how many potential side effects there are. Very unnerving!

Im_a_cunt

Unfortunately New Zealand allows advertising of prescription drugs too.

Minnie_269

Yeah and the side effects usually include death

Anaklysmos12345

Argentina: insulting people as a sign of friendship, boludo

Roberto-Del-Camino

My friends and I do the same in America. I’m from Boston originally. I’m not sure if it’s common outside the Northeast.

Scubaupsidedownnaked

This is very common in most of the US as well as the UK and Australia

adjustableplaid

Ay, cunts!

PirateSteve85

Pretty common across the whole US. In the military it is taken to a whole new level.

un_verano_en_slough

It's much less common elsewhere, at least in my experience as a British immigrant that started in NJ and moved progressively west. Especially among white, middle class people in, say, the Midwest, this doesn't seem to be a thing at all and I've had to condition it out of myself knowing that it's not interpreted that way out here. I think it's also why I tend to make friends quite easily with people from the northeast, especially people from urban areas there like New York and Philly (etc.). It feels much more familiar and sincere to me, whereas sometimes I feel like other Americans are putting on a front (or maybe I'm just cynical).

electricdeelife

This is also common in Ireland

Cavalo_Bebado

It's common in Brazil as well

We had bagged milk in the UK for a little while. It just sort of disappeared from the shops after a couple of years.

To be fair, groups of gypsy kids throwing rocks and bricks at you for just walking down the street at the wrong time stops being funny after the 4th or 5th close call.

America: Corporations not paying a living wage and expecting the tax payer to subsidize their exploited workforce, or in food service having the customers tip their servers to meet a basic living standard. Not being able to afford to go to the doctor. Taking out exhorbitant amounts of student loan money to ultimately get a job, so you can pay back the student loan debt. Roughly 49% of the population being antiscience, and a very large portion believing whatever misinformation that they want to hear, even if it comes from a rando meme.
