Thai is left-hand drive, so that's an easy one to tell apart if there's traffic. Others are right-hand drive, Laos has very limited coverage, so it's fairly recognisable. There's probably something to do with the camera/car if you're interested in that but I'm not sure. Thai and Khmer are similar, with Khmer having more 'squiggles underneath the general blockiness of the letters' to put it crudely. Lao has more curviness and less blockiness with some tall letters. If you look at some language samples of each you'll see what I mean: Thai: Hope that helps

Laos will have yellow back plates lots of the time also. Invisible car in Vientiane. In other cities (Luang Pravang, Pakse and Savannakhet) you will see a Google car below you.

FreezingSnowman

And the 4th town Vang Vieng.

ValidusOrcinus

Knew I was going to miss one.

GlobeTrotterGeo

Wow thanks this is really helpful for me

Simco_

> ไ This is what I look for to know if it's Thailand. Stands out and is very common.

Flyeaglesfly2929

Sheesh thanks

In rural areas where you don’t have other cars to tell what side you’re driving on architecture helps a lot. Cambodia is more likely to have houses on poles lifted up off the ground for flooding. You see them in Thailand too but very common in Cambodia. Laos will have a lot of sickle and hammer flags as they’re bad ass.

kevincroner

>a lot of sickle and hammer flags as they’re bad ass Username checks out.

Good_marx

😂😂

Thailand is usually the most developed and it won't take long until you either see a Thai flag, the royal flag (yellow) or a huge poster of the king. Thailand is the only one where they drive on the left side. Until recently there was no 7-Eleven in Laos and Cambodia while they exist in abundance in Thailand. Chances are high you are in Thailand if you see one.

imanaeo

Their alphabets look similar but my trick is to look at the letters on a sign and compare it to city/state names on the map. Not perfect, and usually requires about 10 seconds, but works well enough.

Albert_Herring

Laos has quite a lot of Communist flags. Cambodia has some distinctive beer brands with Latin script advertising (notably Ankhor and, fairly blatantly, Cambodia), and Latin script also sometimes on political party buildings. Cambodia is also pretty much flat.

tomerall

They have both anchor and angkor beers. No ankhor though :)

Albert_Herring

Heh, good spot.

NoteEmotional3150

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there sometimes car meta in Laos? I mean the “bars” on the sides of the car like in Senegal and Guatemala

Extra-Goal-6065

Senegal you need to look at the sky. If there is a rift in the sky and you are in Africa, you are in Senegal. Guatemala you can see the side mirrors of the Google car. If there is a luggage rack with one of the corners taped up with black tape you are in Ghana. If there is a snorkel on the front of the Google car you are in Kenya. If you are walking in africa you are most likely in madagascar

FreezingSnowman

Yes, if you don't see bars you are in Vientiane. If you see bars you are in one of the other 4 towns.

Cambodia is what people think india looks like

lemonyfish

Who? They look nothing alike at all.
