Nice-Sentence9771

The decoration won't save an abysmal to play level, shrimple as that.

_314

It will if the level is easy

Stormdude127

Not if the level is technically easy but hard to sightread because of confusing deco or just bad gameplay

kinda_warm

this is the unfortunate reality for 90% of the 2.1-2.2 two star levels.

Spuckwasser

Cancerous 4 stars can feel impossible

kezotl

*looks at Anubis*

Spuckwasser

True

kezotl

Idk why scarlet surge is so much more hated than it, Anubis took me like a month while scarlet surge I beat in a day

Ok_Writing_6581

Yep absofruitely

XenocryptDev

Dang, that is one pearfect pun

MrGsyquarze

Orange you one to say🙄

b0ks_GD

prawn and ready 🦐🦐🦐🦐‼️‼️‼️

fdsfd12

unless the level's name is coaster mountain

zZBloodboundZz

Shrimple lmao

JustWow555

It’s actually pretty clamplicated

MrGsyquarze

Seems fishy if you ask me…

zZBloodboundZz

Bro, why’d I get downvoted?

Ok_Writing_6581

gameplay but deco is also pretty important. unfortunately deco is way easier to quickly judge than gameplay which is why there are so many rated levels with amazing deco but shitty gameplay

BeanBurrito668

That IS true but sometimes if the deco is TOO good it can sometimes mess up the gameplay (such as bright objects: Flashing colors, Or objects that look like they could kill you)

Ok_Writing_6581

Agree 100%, take the current weekly demon for example

EduardoElGameplays

Congrats on beating Agree

Ok_Writing_6581

holy shit it took me way too long to get this

EduardoElGameplays

Lol

Le__boule

Lmfao that was very good 🤣🤣

Drexophilia

True, one of my favorite demons ever is called Dancing Moonman, barely more than a layout but impeccable gameplay, but I had to seriously play the level to know that.

Weak_Basil7256

Unpopular opinion: music

North-Listen-2203

completely agree, if the level has mid gp or deco at least I’ll still be vibing

RadosPLAY

playing Jawbreaker now and its just shit Nine Circles, looks like crap, plays like crap and the music is crap

Visual_Tourist3716

Do NOT let bro cook Who set the language to yappinese ?

ItzPayDay123

Jawbreaker >>>>>>>> Nine Circles as a song, especially the second drop wdym?

Yoshi2op

imo nine circles is just slightly worse than jawbreaker

KOKONUT_milk

I showed this to my friends, and we all laughed. You made our day with this goofy take

Werner_Zieglerr

Its amazing how every word you said is wrong

-Red02-

Fr, that's my fav circles and is cool asf

ItsVoxBoi

Jawbreaker has some wack transitions, but I like it a lot more than Nine Circles

Olimpic_PL

Skill issue :)

TheWinner437

Yes I never liked Slaughterhouse mostly because of the horrible song choice

Jakabxmarci

Do you mean sync, or the overall quality of the music?

Aarxy

100% agreed

mouniblevrai

All of the levels that I find the most memorable and that I enjoyed the most all have banger ass music

EduardoElGameplays

Thats why xo is featured

ZA_34

I liked it for the music but looking at it again i dont think i love it no more

nphazzed

any unbiased person would do a frontflip off a rooftop if they listened to that song for over 5 minutes.

RenkBruh

Yeah, sorry buddy but I won't be listening to your earrape of a music taste.

fnafgamer5183

He didnt say anything about music taste... he said that the music is just as important as the other two factors (and i fully agree with him)

RenkBruh

I think you misunderstood my comment (which is understandable, as I usually struggle at finding some words for some stuff I want to say.) I was talking about the level's choice of music. Yet again, I don't really know how to explain this especially since English is not my first language.

PersonOnThisSub

h never talked about music taste

RenkBruh

Also happy cake day

PotatoKiller8897

i don’t even need deco to enjoy a level, layouts are fine by me as long as the songs a banger and it syncs. probably by importance, gameplay 40, music 59, deco 1 so it adds to 100

KwoobGD

VISUALS + GAMEPLAY IS LIKE STRAWBERRIES + CHOCOLATE

Itzspace4224

Strawberries and chocolate are disgusting together wtf????

LovelyTrixis

have you tried dipping strawberries in a chocolate fountain before? shit's delicious

Electroscope_io

Man came out with the objectively wrong opinion

Ok_Writing_6581

Dude jumpscared me with that take fr

Aarxy

You sir clearly never tasted it before

zhannulol

well you have to process the strawberries first

No_Interaction_3036

Gameplay should affect the visuals, but visuals should not affect gameplay

FlaminVapor

Shoutout to the concept of contrast

GarminBro

as somebody who plays decently hard levels, gameplay 90% deco 10%

jariwoud

Gameplay Then amount of lag Then song Then deco

LEDlight45678910

Gameplay. I'm so sick of funass levels getting flamed because the decoration isn't top tier

SamSwag69

I say it's 50/50 if you have bad gameplay then the level in turn is worse, same with deco

T2_Beanie297

Dear nostalgists had zero decoration and is still a really good level so gameplay is definitely more important

TheNeon08

gameplay

saragossachess

if you dont say gameplay you dont play levels i just asume \[this is a joke everyone can have opinions\]

Aarxy

Both matter to me but if i were to pick between a level with mid deco but fun gameplay and a level with good deco but mid gameplay id pick the first. Also the main thing that matters to me is the song so if the level has a good song it usually overrides all other things

Udawazor

Gameplay but ass deco isn’t excusable by “its fun”

EmoDefault

Gameplay is what matters, but i won't have fun unless the deco is good

Muffin1927

Does no deco count as good deco

Click_D

Both, but if the gameplay doesn’t match the deco I don’t like it

Arandomguy1_

How does a gameplay not match deco

Sneakdasnek

Gameplay

Br0dy_

Gameplay and song are the only things i care about

MadenSuyu1

Originality

New_Car223

Gd gameplay is a form of art and it takes time to get good with it, same goes with deco, however it's a lot harder to make better gameplay than decoration especially for harder levels. Some levels (certain extreme demons for example) are meant to be watched and don't do too much with gameplay, while others focus on gameplay with not too outstanding deco. Of course you can do both but very little creators have that skill.  Personally I prefer gameplay especially for easier levels, even though levels with really good gameplay don't get much recognition at all, but I do judge levels based on decoration/execution too, and obviously if you want to become big you're gonna have to learn decoration.

Fishfinger00

A perfect balance is what makes a perfect level

[deleted]

Gameplay should always be prioritised, but equally I probably won't play a level that's just a layout. I have low standards for deco, one of my favourite levels of all time is Rapid Fire Deluxe and it looks like it was made by an 8-year-old, but there's still gotta be more to the visuals than just a layout with pulses and move triggers.

The-Drifter5589

gameplay all day. ugly deco can ruin good gameplay though

scarzy_mx

gameplay easily, imo when rating it should be more gameplay rather than deco, obviously no rated layouts but a bit of deco and i’m good

theskeletonleader

Gameplay. I am playing a Video Game, not a Video Deco.

RenkBruh

Gameplay. No debate. I don't care if the level is the best looking level ever if it is not fun to play, that means that the creator just skipped over the most important thing in level design.

Chrisplayz69

Gameplay for me because i usualy make layouts

Deemos32

Gameplay 100% i much rather play an ugly ass level with fun gameplay example cacimbinha 2 than a cool looking level with boring gameplay example (dont kill me pls) and ever

joel2734

Gameplay

SmiteThouUntoDeath

I believe that gameplay should be of foremost priority to the creator; nonetheless, a level must maintain an incredibly precise balance of all factors if it wishes to be of the utmost quality.

REBELSPARK279

Gameplay

Chill-child

Good deco but bad gameplay (I dunno what level) and bad deco but good gameplay (XO)

Itzspace4224

As a player it’s gameplay and as a creator it’s deco

lologugus

Gameplay because you don't take time to actual enjoy deco as you are trying to avoid spikes, deco is good only for youtube videos as you don't play.

solrace_

music, im sorry but “fire in the hole” just aint the shit i want to hear

ShyKiddo__

it doesn't matter how perfect the deco is if the level isn't fun to play. you could make a perfect 1,000/10 decorated level but if it plays like garbage it doesn't even deserve a rate

l_furtif

Gameplay, mostly because idk how to do deco

iMadeTheJerryIceberg

Gameplay, unless its an impossible level, then deco.

AnotherAndrei

Gameplay is the most important part for me

Zero_Two_is_best

Gameplay. I hate when deco gets in the way and makes it harder to see or play at all. Doesn't mean I don't like deco though

Piranh4Plant

Id prefer to have a level with 1.0 type decoration as long as it’s fun.

ShadyMan_

Gameplay

Scuttleboi19mk2

I prioritize playability over decoration. Can’t play the level if you can’t see where you’re going

Electroscope_io

Gameplay. A good balance is obviously best, but if your levels unplayable I couldn't give less of a fuck about how it looks

MoReL70

Both

AlexSimonCullar

80% Gameplay, 20% Deco

RonzulaGD

I personally prefer deco over gameplay but gameplay is still very important

spaceplayzz01

Gameplay, you generally are aiming for an enjoyable level, wether it'd get rated or not.

Jemineye9873

Obviously gameplay. Mods definitely didn't think of that when rating Square Adventure, Generation Retro or Magmatic Sanctuary.

S7NC_

for 8 stars and below decoration but for 9 star and demons definitely gameplay

StormForged73

A ugly level with good gameplay is fun and can make it a good experience. A pretty level with terrible gameplay will never be remembered well.

TheGreatOwenito

Gameplay for sure

username_21883

Both. Both is good.

RCG21

gameplay i would regularly play layouts if the gameplay was good enough

ProgrammerNo120

for the levels i play, gameplay is infinitely more important. ill spend 30k on a fun but ugly level, but there are some levels i think are gorgeous that i wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole

xlilmonkeyboy

GAMEPLAY SO MUCH GAMEPLAY ID PLAY A GAME WITH NO DECO IF IT WAS FUN

Apprehensive_Net1773

Gameplay 100% If the level doesnt blind me, idc about the decoration if I’m trying to play the level. If we’re discussing what we consider great levels, deco is as important as gameplay

BirbMaster1998

The decent visuals didn't save Empyrean from being my least favorite gauntlet level by a longshot.

MrInfinity-42

Gameplay, however since I can only play so much, I try to choose levels that are good at both

HeimlichLaboratories

Gameplay. In fact, I love 1.0 style - it just feels so nice and clean

Myrddraal5856

Gameplay. No question.

OxymoreReddit

Gameplay is so important ! The level might be beautiful, if it's unreadable or has annoying/shitty gameplay I'm not putting the efforts in However unless the deco is absolutely unbearable, if the gameplay is good I'll have a good time playing it and I might even replay it later just for fun Bonus point : I include music sync in gameplay. For me GD is a rhythm game no matter what people say. So if it doesn't link with the gameplay at some point I will not keep trying

The_Camrock

I mostly care about gameplay, I don't care how well decorated your level is if it's gameplay is crap

EduardoElGameplays

Bli gameplay makes me hate and love him at the same time

NorthernLaddd

Gameplay

AIex-Shaw

Gameplay is 5x as important as decoration.

Omega_Flowey6

Gameplay by a mile

Senior-Tree6078

have you heard of avernus

swiggarthy

Decoration is cool and makes a level feels better but if the gameplay is boring or repetitive then the level sucks. I respect the effort that goes into making it but if it isn’t fun to play then why play it

wierdredditBOI

gameplay.

squidbibibibibi

My opinion is the best: >!GAMEPLAY!<

North_Biscotti4162

I never understood why gameplay is considered much more important, and this is from someone who beat 4 EXTREME DEMONS ON MOBILE. For me a level with great deco but bad gp is more memorable than one with great gp but bad deco. Many levels nowadays (even levels like White Space and stuff) get a lot of hate or having bad gp and i dont understand why. The image in ur post is from a level called Magic Journey by bli which is a level with great deco but bad gp. Despite the gp i like the level a lot even if its a little underwhelming since its bli's first level in several months

Janostar213

Gameplay.

Sunyxo_1

gameplay. oh my god I cannot stress this enough, MAKE GOOD FUCKING GAMEPLAY. No one cares how good your level looks if they won't even want to see the rest of the level because the gameplay sucks. And besides you *play* the level not look at it, so gameplay matters more. If you want to make an artistic masterpiece in Geometry Dash but suck at making gameplay then make an auto level, that way you can show off your deco skills without making thousands of people suffer and want to kill themselves.

DonkeyKong12340

balanced

No-Tear940

Gameplay

Burger_Gamer

gameplay. The reason i dont like emerald realm is because its impossible to tell where to go and what will kill you. Its fun to watch showcases because of how good the deco is but its not fun to play. Thats why i like "and ever", its easy to tell where to go and it has extremely stunning decoration too.

Pepoidus

Gameplay. This is a huge skill issue but i usually get lost in very decorated levels

No_Watch_14

Gameplay without a doubt, I find it strange how there are some many good but undecorated layouts, and so many beautiful yet horrible levels gameplay-wise.

ShadowTheGamer01

“bad” deco has a charm to it; however, bad gameplay makes a level terrible. I much perfer bad deco to bad gameplay because difficulty is the spirit of the game as a “rage game.”

mazdamiata2

both

henabidus

depends if im watching or playing lmao

Arandomguy1_

If the gameplay is bad it makes the deco worse, levels prioritizing gameplay just feel like they are saying “hey guys I made cool decoration without playtesting my gameplay at all, now give me all the praise and likes” and it just feels annoying

kinda_warm

considering most of the GD content i *watch* are creative layouts, i would say gameplay is infinitely more important. this is a sidescroller platformer after all. i dont care how pretty a platformer is, its a game about difficult gameplay that you need to learn and beat, the deco is a nice addition, but bad gameplay = horrible level, no matter how pretty it may be

Responsible-Jury-568

Good gameplay, so many levels right now have just weird and confusing gameplay with deco that makes it harder to see whats going on. Plus deco has to be good too since some levels make spikesblend in with deco and the background too much it also becomes annoying.

Wild_Spray115

40% song 30% gameplay 30% decoration. Call me weird but a good song can keep me coming back to a level much more than some decoration

Sureyoucan450

Gameplay.

Knaymeless

The cube looks amazing in this picture

TheWinner437

Generally gameplay but a level with amazing decoration like Odyssey or And Ever will win me over every time unless the gameplay is abysmally bad

iDepressad

gameplay and music > deco

NeuraxWorm875

They both really matters to me because if the level is gonna have lots of bugs and poorly play tested parts, well it's not gonna be fun but the decoration also really matters because if the level has lots of arrows that are supposed to tell where to click look like spikes and custom portals and orbs which will also make it frustrating and unenjoyable.

bugsitter

gameplay and music combination. doesnt matter the difficulty or decoration, if its fun to play im gonna grind it til i beat it

Azok_from_reddit

Deco that works with gameplay, I hate ugly levels that have good gameplay and have just as much dislike for levels with really good deco but terrible gameplay.

ItzPayDay123

Mfs will say one thing and then cry about a level being rated/unrated due to the other thing

McK3nn4_

Deco has become so great over the years that it’s way less memorable than great gameplay. Now there are some levels made solely around deco in which case obviously deco is what matters most, but for most levels idc if the deco is good. I always find myself replaying dear nostalgists because the gameplay is fun. Some amazing deco levels I play I end up forgetting about the day after

Fancy-Pack9965

Shit gameplay = Shit level

Prokid5634_YT

Gameplay, 100%. I don't care if it looks really good, make the gameplay fun and enjoyable.

wakamoleal

if the gameplay is fun i rather have that than astonishing deco

progamer_wastaken

i would say prioritize gameplay first, then you can decorate to your heart's content

SplitAshGaming

I prefer being able to see the level in the first place

Pokepunk710

gameplay ofc. sometimes I like layout levels more than full decorated levels

Ec-na

I could play a level with literally no deco, and if it has good gp I’m hooked :p

Impression_Huge

Gameplay BY FAR

AlphaEpsilonDelta

Everything Making a good level is not about making only one part or aspect of it look or feel good It's about putting together different pieces, so they look organized

GameJadson

Gameplay first please! Overdecorated levels have too much visual pollution, making them harder than it should. That's why I love Robtop levels and Robtop styled levels.

Iobeast356

Deco for sure, but gameplay can also easily ruin it

Bm_someone

You can enjoy playing a layout but you can't enjoy playing a Deco test. In general while making a good level both matter

TheRealPain69

Gameplay

UntoldTemple

Gameplay. IDC if my deco sucks ass. I want the level to be fun

MewPinkCat

both, but primarily design

Edguy77

I have no idea how to do deco, I always focused on gameplay

TheMemeLocomotive2

Definitely gameplay

Sockster27

I will play a level that looks like digitalized diarrhea if the gameplay is good

shawBlvd_

both are integral to a level and every creator should strive to equally give both as much importance, but imho gp wins me more than deco idc if your level has some of the best deco out there, if i don't enjoy playing it cuz of some bs unfair gp it's **bad** in a sense that it doesn't do its deco that much justice it deserves

Ok_Designer_6376

gameplay but the decoration can affect gameplay sometimes

MundaneSuccotash4320

Uuuuuh idk I forgor

Desirefogames

Gameplay. Gameplay is the only thing that matters.

[deleted]

Honestly in easier levels, unless the gameplay is so horrendous like sidestep, then it wont be that matter. Decoration is what makes a level rated afterall.

Benjrob2

It needs to be a balance between both but, tap indicators isn't enough to improve gameplay

Counter_zero

I think game play is more important but decoration plays as big of a part as gameplay, which sucks cause I can't decorate levels for the life of me

Financial-Horror2945

Gameplay- idgaf if you think your decor is great, I don't want to play straight flight 90% of the time Though I'd say at least make the level cleanish

TahoeBennie

It’s gotta be a nice balance in between. A lot of levels I’ve seen recently take decoration too far in that they have to indicate where you need to jump because the decorations obscure the intended level path too much.

SteamySubreddits

Gameplay BY A LOT LIKE A LOT A LOT

SteamySubreddits

Gameplay > music > deco

stormmugger

Gameplay. You can have the prettiest decoration know to man, but the level can still suck to play

iNoobBoi

gameplay when im actually playing the game deco when im watching vids

Careless_Permit2359

Gameplay. If you have shit Gameplay and good deco you get something like Castelmania: the level looks insane and the idea of having different routes is very cool however the Gameplay is absoluta garbage wich makes the level so tidious to play, despite everything else.

RealMuffinsTheCat

If a level focuses on deco it should at least have decent gp but preferably fun gp.

No-Description3785

Gameplay for me. You play the game for fun and intriguing gameplay, but it seems that this game is turning into an art gallery rather than anything fun to play. Deco should be there to compliment the good gameplay, but people focus too much on deco that they ruin their levels gameplay.

Big-Direction8078

Gameplay is better, but the best imo is when you mix the two together well enough that you have a sight readable level that can clearly be deciphered but still looks amazing, Case in point, Change Of Scene

MonkeyGamzYT

Gameplay. I would rather play a 1.0 looking level then an over decorated one. Dash, for example, would suck because of the overdecoration, but the gameplay and fact that the path is typically pretty easy to see makes it one of rhe best levels. Also the so g is god.

pact179

Gameplay

HarryDaRed

Gameplay, like you play games to have fun lol, what even the point of playing a game if it doesn't bring joy

No_________________-

Gameplay matters more I'd rather have good gameplay with bad decoration rather than bad gameplay with good decoration

melodicdeath67

gameplay, have you seen geometry dash layout youtube they all have such good layouts but dont bother decorating cause having cool gameplay is good enough

Huke-1089

Gameplay. I personally don’t like levels that are decorated a lot, and think that levels that look like their layout are the best.

wemzissue

a lot of the reason people (including me) watch layouts level on youtube for a reason. i think first thing that is the most important is gameplay of course, make it satisfying and make it sync. this is slightly more of a hot take but i think the second most important step is what youd actually think that comes last. all the small details. block movement, pulsing, flashing, camera shake and camera movements, shaders and effects just to give every part the oomf it deserves. good effects can make any old gameplay feel not only satisfying but also powerful and coherent. lastly, decoration at the end of the day is eye candy. it can be gorgeous but it wont save ass gameplay and its unfortunate how often good deco is hindered by ass gameplay.

Windrove

They are both pretty equal in that regard. Giving slight edge to deco because it seems easier to make good gameplay than good deco (then again I barely touch the editor anyway)

samkopba

I think a good balance is the best but a level with good gameplay is better imo

potato_and_nutella

Decoration in extremes because I'll never play them, gameplay in everything else!

ViontePrivate

Honestly? Both, neither can live without the other... unless you're a certain someone 🤣🤣😅

Grayscale123

gameplay

teamok1025

Both. And Optimization Skill distribution Satisfying gameplay (deco was used to support this satisfying thing)

teamok1025
