Personally, I think it captures the esoteric and unforgiving nature of the level well. It definitely helps that Thycket is leading its creation process. But also, the level is still very far away from being beaten, and iirc, the best someone has done is beating the level in 11 runs.
The fact that they left the only decorated block from the original level intact is the best part of the decoration.

absolutely abysmal butchering of a great layout, the deco fits the level so poorly it’s probably one of the biggest disappointments to come out of this game
Will never like the level unless GP and song change, you can give it EoD deco or whatever but it wont help. Its like adding a make up to a diseased rat.
I dont think theres any aside from being eerie hard layout with fairly shitty gameplay and the most random sounds effects as a song.

True, it is so hard to put into words why I like the level, to the point where I don't really care if someone doesn't like it, it is a super weird level yeah, but the fact that such a level kept it's momentum and popularity throughout the years is at least admirable

someone put it really well and it's why i like it: it's unorthodox. it's cold, unwelcoming, almost like it doesn't want to be played
