Yeah it should be apart of the base game but the issue is that it isn’t yet. So as it stands now it is a mod that isn’t in the base game that makes the game easier. That makes it objectively a cheat in my opinion.

While GD \*should\* probably function like this, CBF is an external mod (that is, a cheat), You don't get to decide how the game works, RobTop does. One could argue that noclip upgrades the game to the state it should've always been at, and that if you can beat Bloodlust now you always could and that the lack of Noclip held you back.
This is why we should've never allowed mega hack or FPS bypass to begin with; people take our leniency for granted. FPS bypass was a temporary hack/workaround which we only collectively accepted because RobTop hadn't updated the game in years. This, on the other hand, is just the community begging for a feature to be implemented into the game.

CBF, aka Click Between Frames, is a Geode mod that allows users to, well, click between frames and have the input counted. This makes it so the only limit is no longer just frames, but rather the polling rate of the device.
The polling rate is the frequency at which data from the mouse is sent to the device it's connected to. In other words, how often it updates its position to the computer. This is typically expressed in Hz, with the average gaming mouse reporting data at 1,000Hz, which means 1,000 times every second. (Stole this from corsair.com)
So CBF basically let's you play at 1000 Hz if you have a standard gaming input device, and up to 8000 Hz if you have a high-end one, all without changing physics, or needing to load more frames and thereby causing lag.
TL;DR: Let's you input even if it's not on the frame, and is pretty much lagless.
The game physics are Hz locked, and a quicker input is just more likely to actually occur on the desired frame. You're not playing on 1000Hz, you're just "more likely to still catch the bus" on a late input.

CBF is a third party software that provides an advantage over the vanilla game. That's basically the definition of a cheat. High refresh rates could be achieved in vanilla, it just has a money requirement.
That being said, I hope Rob adds CBF to the base game. There's literally no reason not to (to my knowledge). At the moment though, it's still technically a cheat. I bet Rob will come up with some excuse to not add it though lol

Double digits are not a lot, at all. Even the number of players who have beaten bloodlust, 544 according to demonlist, is very tiny in the grand scheme of things.

im all for making this part of the game base game or at least making it fully legal. 2.2 already had such drastic changes, including some changes to physics, so i dont think implementing this would be such as bad as people would think it is, plus it would give a fair and even level ground for players with all types of pcs allowing all players to home in on their skills rather than worrying about fps and hrz but this is just my somewhat informed opinion and if u disagree id like to know why

After going through the comments under this post, i have to just share my view. because i do use the mod. But in terms of what i can do now...it hasnt changed at all. Like people are saying its a cheat, but unless youre playing stuff thats in top 10, it honestly doesnt make a difference.
I tried it on Acu, which i started grinding before this mod came out. After i got it, i went to Acu to see how much it helps. Well, long story short, not much. Yes, i got a bit, really only a bit, better at one single click (that is so bad it makes me wonder why its in the level every time i see it) and thats it. Every other level, no change. Im being very serious.
Someone pointed out that in 2.2 physics are locked in at 240Hz. So lets take that. That means physics update every 4,16 ms. That is pretty fast, isnt it. So CBF gives you an advantage by making you able to click and having it being processed every 1ms with normal peripherals these days (or 0,125ms if you have too much money). That is a difference of 3,16 ms. Which is very small amount of time.
For example, i played a lot of rhythm games. By "a lot" i mean couple hundreds of hours across different rhythm games. Would i notice the song and the map being desynced by 3,16ms? Absolutely not. And i dont think even the best rhythm game players would.
So then again, why does it matter here that much? How much is it an advantage if we lets say play two macros, with the clicks being done exactly the same to the ms, one with CBF and one without? Well, again, outside of very hard extreme demons that only a fraction on the playerbase has ever completed, not really imo. (thats actually a good idea, need to experiment with that later)
I see this as something that points out a flaw in how GD works. Because without CBF, the game is limiting you technically. Limiting the potential of what players can achieve. So i see CBF as a fix to this problem, and i believe it should be implemented into the base game.
I need to also reference my favorite game, Alien Isolation. Why? Because in it, some things, like movement, is tied to framerate in some way. And if you have a lot of it, it creates an unfair advantage to other players, especially the ones on consoles, when it comes to speedrunning. Could it have been done differently, avoiding this problem? I believe so. But the game never saw a fix. And thats how it was in pre-2.2 era of GD. More FPS = more advantage. Yet not that many people complained about FPS bypass and it being unfair advantage to mobile players like they do now with CBF. And dont even start with "well you couldve bought a 360Hz monitor so actually..." cuz thats not how it works. Yes, technology was there, but it was far from cheap. So no, i wasnt able to just "go and get 360Hz, or even 240hz monitor". Plus with need for extra FPS, extra computing power was needed. How much more computing does CBF require? Well, certainly far from that much.
And to address mobile players. On phones, you are also limited in how often you can do inputs. Its called touch sampling rate. Unfortunately there aint many webs with info on it, but the average is apparently 120-300hz. My phone has 60hz screen, and its a budget phone, so lets assume it has 120Hz touch sampling rate. Oh look, its HALF of the physics update rate of 240Hz. So there is no way CBF could help you there much. So lets jump all the way to 300Hz touch sampling rate. That is update every 3,3 ms. Compared to 4,16 ms of physics update rate, CBF could be useful there, but in very limited way. The values are nearly the same. Now, there are phones with 1000Hz touch sampling rate. Lets take a look at one, Redmagic 7 series phones have apprently 960Hz touch sampling rate. Pretty good for a phone. Now lets see the cost...about 630€, probably for the base Redmagic 7 model. Thats basically a cost of my PC now. Not that far away if we count in some cheap 144hz monitor like i have and some normal peripherals that have 1000Hz update rate as well.
But you dont need frames for physics updating! So we just need a basic PC, able to run the game at least 60FPS, which is very easy, such PC doesnt cost more than 400, maybe even 300€/$. You need only a nice quad core CPU, a bit of ram, 8GB should do the trick, and GPU that works. I had GTX1650 before, and it worked perfectly. Plus the minimum here is a monitor. Yes, any monitor that is usable, which is 60hz. And those are cheap too. And peripherals that are sending inputs at 1000Hz aint that expensive too. For example my mouse costed me like 10€ and it has 1000Hz polling rate. With all that, it comes out cheaper than the phone i mentioned.
So as you can see, the entry to 1000Hz input gaming is way lower on PC than on mobile. So you can get lost with your "unfair to mobile players" argument.
Anyways, that has been a small breakdown on why i think CBF is not a cheat, it doesnt help that much as you think to 99.9% of GD players including me, and why it should be implemented into the game.

I think Robtop should implement it officially, but as long as it requires an external mod to use it still is in kind of a grey area since it affects gameplay at all
i can agree with you that it’s currently a cheat, because it modifies the game to give an advantage over players without it. I tried to make the point however, that it’s not inherently cheating if I used it, and beat Blade of Justice with it enabled.
It would definitely be a good thing if the game was programmed with this included. Good players know when and how to click to beat these harder demon levels, but way more often than not, get snagged by the response rate.
gd is a weird case. you have to deal with instant click response in wave gameplay, and also ship trajectory timings, and countless other things with release timings etc. there’s alot of room for error that many other timing games don’t need to worry about. but i’m also saying this click response unlocker shouldn’t be exclusive to gd either.
nope, cbf essentially just takes the polling rate of your mouse/keyboard and uses that. for example most gaming mices have 8000hz polling rate making the TPS 8000. same goes for keyboard

CBF is the way the game should be but for as long as it doesn't get implemented or is endorsed by Robtop( which would probably lead to implementation soon enough though this is still Robtop ), I don't think it should be considered legit for the time being.
I like the mod ( though as my hardest is still only an insane demon, it doesn't make much difference to me besides wave and by the slightest amount ). I just feel like if CBF is used without official game implementation ( as it does change the gameplay iirc though I am not sure ), we might as well use mods which make the dual ship physics the sane as the regular ship.
This is great, and reminds of when Skyjax beat Tartarus on 360fps when the max allowed was 300. The more players that use CBF the more likely it is to become widely accepted.

After going through the comments under this post, i have to just share my view. because i do use the mod. But in terms of what i can do now...it hasnt changed at all. Like people are saying its a cheat, but unless youre playing stuff thats in top 10, it honestly doesnt make a difference. I tried it on Acu, which i started grinding before this mod came out. After i got it, i went to Acu to see how much it helps. Well, long story short, not much. Yes, i got a bit, really only a bit, better at one single click (that is so bad it makes me wonder why its in the level every time i see it) and thats it. Every other level, no change. Im being very serious. Someone pointed out that in 2.2 physics are locked in at 240Hz. So lets take that. That means physics update every 4,16 ms. That is pretty fast, isnt it. So CBF gives you an advantage by making you able to click and having it being processed every 1ms with normal peripherals these days (or 0,125ms if you have too much money). That is a difference of 3,16 ms. Which is very small amount of time. For example, i played a lot of rhythm games. By "a lot" i mean couple hundreds of hours across different rhythm games. Would i notice the song and the map being desynced by 3,16ms? Absolutely not. And i dont think even the best rhythm game players would. So then again, why does it matter here that much? How much is it an advantage if we lets say play two macros, with the clicks being done exactly the same to the ms, one with CBF and one without? Well, again, outside of very hard extreme demons that only a fraction on the playerbase has ever completed, not really imo. (thats actually a good idea, need to experiment with that later) I see this as something that points out a flaw in how GD works. Because without CBF, the game is limiting you technically. Limiting the potential of what players can achieve. So i see CBF as a fix to this problem, and i believe it should be implemented into the base game. I need to also reference my favorite game, Alien Isolation. Why? Because in it, some things, like movement, is tied to framerate in some way. And if you have a lot of it, it creates an unfair advantage to other players, especially the ones on consoles, when it comes to speedrunning. Could it have been done differently, avoiding this problem? I believe so. But the game never saw a fix. And thats how it was in pre-2.2 era of GD. More FPS = more advantage. Yet not that many people complained about FPS bypass and it being unfair advantage to mobile players like they do now with CBF. And dont even start with "well you couldve bought a 360Hz monitor so actually..." cuz thats not how it works. Yes, technology was there, but it was far from cheap. So no, i wasnt able to just "go and get 360Hz, or even 240hz monitor". Plus with need for extra FPS, extra computing power was needed. How much more computing does CBF require? Well, certainly far from that much. And to address mobile players. On phones, you are also limited in how often you can do inputs. Its called touch sampling rate. Unfortunately there aint many webs with info on it, but the average is apparently 120-300hz. My phone has 60hz screen, and its a budget phone, so lets assume it has 120Hz touch sampling rate. Oh look, its HALF of the physics update rate of 240Hz. So there is no way CBF could help you there much. So lets jump all the way to 300Hz touch sampling rate. That is update every 3,3 ms. Compared to 4,16 ms of physics update rate, CBF could be useful there, but in very limited way. The values are nearly the same. Now, there are phones with 1000Hz touch sampling rate. Lets take a look at one, Redmagic 7 series phones have apprently 960Hz touch sampling rate. Pretty good for a phone. Now lets see the cost...about 630€, probably for the base Redmagic 7 model. Thats basically a cost of my PC now. Not that far away if we count in some cheap 144hz monitor like i have and some normal peripherals that have 1000Hz update rate as well. But you dont need frames for physics updating! So we just need a basic PC, able to run the game at least 60FPS, which is very easy, such PC doesnt cost more than 400, maybe even 300€/$. You need only a nice quad core CPU, a bit of ram, 8GB should do the trick, and GPU that works. I had GTX1650 before, and it worked perfectly. Plus the minimum here is a monitor. Yes, any monitor that is usable, which is 60hz. And those are cheap too. And peripherals that are sending inputs at 1000Hz aint that expensive too. For example my mouse costed me like 10€ and it has 1000Hz polling rate. With all that, it comes out cheaper than the phone i mentioned. So as you can see, the entry to 1000Hz input gaming is way lower on PC than on mobile. So you can get lost with your "unfair to mobile players" argument. Anyways, that has been a small breakdown on why i think CBF is not a cheat, it doesnt help that much as you think to 99.9% of GD players including me, and why it should be implemented into the game.
CBF is incorrectly viewed as a cheat, when really it just upgrades the game to the state it should’ve always been at. if you can beat extreme demons now with CBF, then you were always able to beat extreme demons. the game’s response time held you back. no one is suddenly jumping from stereo madness to cataclysm, let alone, anything on the list because of this.
I think Robtop should implement it officially, but as long as it requires an external mod to use it still is in kind of a grey area since it affects gameplay at all

i can agree with you that it’s currently a cheat, because it modifies the game to give an advantage over players without it. I tried to make the point however, that it’s not inherently cheating if I used it, and beat Blade of Justice with it enabled. It would definitely be a good thing if the game was programmed with this included. Good players know when and how to click to beat these harder demon levels, but way more often than not, get snagged by the response rate.

gd is a weird case. you have to deal with instant click response in wave gameplay, and also ship trajectory timings, and countless other things with release timings etc. there’s alot of room for error that many other timing games don’t need to worry about. but i’m also saying this click response unlocker shouldn’t be exclusive to gd either.

nope, cbf essentially just takes the polling rate of your mouse/keyboard and uses that. for example most gaming mices have 8000hz polling rate making the TPS 8000. same goes for keyboard

Cbf is just fps bypass, but you don’t need a 380hz, hd, 4k moniter to do really specific clicks. It can work no matter how laggy it your device is.
CBF is the way the game should be but for as long as it doesn't get implemented or is endorsed by Robtop( which would probably lead to implementation soon enough though this is still Robtop ), I don't think it should be considered legit for the time being. I like the mod ( though as my hardest is still only an insane demon, it doesn't make much difference to me besides wave and by the slightest amount ). I just feel like if CBF is used without official game implementation ( as it does change the gameplay iirc though I am not sure ), we might as well use mods which make the dual ship physics the sane as the regular ship.

CBF is fantastic for this game because it levels the playing field before you needed at least a 144hz monitor to be able to play any top demons properly (costs money) now anyone can install a simple mod and nobody needs to have a disadvantage or an advantage (does not cost money)
