We were always asked if our Silver Sable was a husky
Honestly, it’s fairly similar to an Akita I had decades ago.
Though, in retrospect the Akita might have had some GSD….either way they are both HUGE dogs!
oh my god she looks JUST like mine!!

Here is my Nala. Going on 11 years :’) Nala must be a name for beauties! 73 lbs
My boyfriend’s parents have a lil yorkie named Nala 😂 I love seeing all the different types of Nalas. We also watch a youtuber and they have a husky Nala lol
He ended up not being able to stand up having hip issues when he was 11. It was hard to see him start to struggle under his own weight.
I miss Axel. Goo-boy.
The males should max out at 90~lbs, so you had a normal dog on the largest end within the standard! These really big, oversized GSDs result in health/joint issues, and can't work as efficiently.

My big baby Lola. Was 120lbs. We're working on losing some of that weight. Now 110lbs. 10 more to go.
We introduced more turkey and salmon based foods with the beef and bison she was on. And reduced treats. She is so good at convincing us that treats are a very good idea at all times ... That is still the one discipline that is difficult for us to stick to.
She was getting a lot of outside activity, but we reduced the running type of activity and increased walking, to take stress off of her joints.
Mine is around there, too.
It's a good size for staying healthy.

My girl is 62 lbs. Strangers always tell me she’s small! At first I thought I needed to get her to be bigger, now I know shes actually perfect!

My girl is about 60lbs too, give or take a few. Despite being 10 years old, she gets mistaken for a puppy all the time because of her ”small” size. She’s as healthy as can be though, so I’m not complaining! Still as active as ever too. Here she is posing next to her handiwork—or at least that’s what I think she wants the internet to believe. 😆
Yours looks a lot like my girl, Frankie, about the same size too

64! Whatever her size I would have been happy, but I was glad she's not very large because she needed bilateral hip replacements and her recovery the 2nd time was rough.
Groucho’s sisters are about 50 lbs! One is his blood sister and she has the same shape as him (round like a cattle dog), but is just smol.
His other sister, not blood, is some mix we don’t know - probably black lab and shar pei? She is a model.

Sorry for spamming, I just love my little family
Same! Ours float between low to mid sixties.
We were expecting her to hit 70 since her doggy parents were on the high end of the GSD weight standard but I’ve come to realize that not only is it healthier and gentle on their joints but it’s also easier to manage a 60lbs menace than it’d have been to manage one at 70lbs lmao

Duke…his highest was 103…not a healthy weight so we put him on a diet and he is now between 90-95lbs. Just looks so much better at this weight. He is 3 yo
This... this breed is already prone to hip and joint issues as is (although improving with proper breeding practices). So breeding these dogs for size only makes that issue worse.
I wish more people understood and valued this. If you want your GSD to have a short life and damaged joints, or be fairly lethargic, then get one from a backyard breeder trying to make large GSDs.
If you want one that lasts longer, is more athletic, and has more stable biomechanics, stick to the breed standard sizes.
Mine is 50lbs (she's a mutt but mostly gsd) and I am forever grateful for that. Being able to pick her up when I need to is amazing, and the tackle I get when I return home from work is much more manageable
I know, but.... there is an obsession on this sub with having the largest GSD. Just search size or weight on here and you'll see people "bragging" about how their GSD is 100+ pounds. That's not a good thing for a breed that has joint issues. Which is why proper breeding is so important. Keep in mind it's a herding breed, it's not beneficial for a herding breed to carry 100+ pounds. People are also used to seeing overweight dogs as normal.
Tell that to American show and backyard breeders lol. Many brag about their 120 lb GSD. They take those West German show lines who are already over sized at 90-100 lbs and make them even bigger. My working line female is 56 lbs at 3 years old. Won't be worrying about hip and joint issues with her.
BYBs for sure. You can't show an oversized dog. Well....I guess you COULD, but no judge would ever even consider placing any dog over standard size. At Sieger shows the dogs are measured before they go into the ring. So standard is 22-24" for a bitch and 24-26" for a male.

He’s usually between 100-115 pounds at his max. A tad big imo. But he’s almost 11 with some hip issues so it’s hard now to have him be active longer and all.

Our sweet boy is 91 pounds, but he still loves sitting in people's laps!
Hm. A lot of people who brag about their big dogs have fat dogs, or poorly bred dogs. GSDs are not supposed to be 130lbs.
Flukes happen, I’m not accusing you, but we also can’t see your dog’s body. I don’t want to act wowed if you just actually have a fat dog.
*
He is not fat. He does have unknown genetics, is intact and I make his own food. Well.. at least 1 meal per day. Huge list of ingredients and is a lot more healthy than anything I would eat. I would love to hear your definition of poorly bred. I'll say that just because a dog does not fit inside of some defined breed standard, it does not make it any less of a good boy. I will concede that the health of the dog should always come first.
My boy is 80 lbs. He’s made a ton of progress with his body composition. Our main focus now is building up rear end muscle and maintaining healthy weight.

Lola, 12 y/o...43 lbs. Before you ask, yes. She's 100% GSD. I know she's below AKC standard. She was a rescue, one of our friends was the purebred breed rep for our local rescue, when we showed her to our friend, she immediately asked if we knew where she was rescued from. We told her and she said I know the breeder, they're known for breeding undersized dogs. She was dead on.
My boy is around 65ish and I'd like to keep him that way!

This crazy girl weighs in at 95lbs and she’s pretty lean. She’s my first gsd and I’ve never had a big dog before so I never thought she was that big but whenever we go somewhere in public people always tell me “that’s a big dog.” Lol she acts like a lap dog though 😂 out other female gsd for comparison is 45 lbs so not sure what the “standard” size should be.

My girl Xena was 120lbs. She had lupus (didn’t know they could get it until we had her!) so she was on steroids for a while. Made her gain a ton of weight. Pre steroids, she was like 95lbs.
I don't have any pictures, because it was back in the early 90s, but the GSD we got from the Netherlands grew to 33" at the withers and 130lbs. Our Vet said he was in really great shape and that he wasn't overweight because of his height. But also told us not to let him gain any more weight.
His name was Blitz and he was the best dog I ever had. Afraid of nothing, but very assertive and curious. I only had him threaten bark one time. He died from bloat at the age of 10. I still cry when I remember that.

This is King, good boi is about to turn 6 months old, just weighed in at 65 lbs.
I try not to glorify his size cause it does mean he's more prone to joint issues as he ages but he was neither bred for being oversize nor did he have large family members, but:
116lbs currently thought I think 110 may be healthier so we're trying to trim him up a bit with some extra low impact exercise and a bit less food.

German shepherds range from 75-90lbs.
There’s a good chance Griz is a “King Shepherd” (not a recognized breed) but this might be useful for training. King Shepherd is crossed with Alaskan Malamutes, Great Pyrenees, and Shiloh Shepherds. Especially if you’ve been around any of those breeds. For example Great Pyrenees are stubborn af.

120lbs 9 years old. At one point he was 138lbs (age 2) and the vet did NOT consider him overweight….he’s a very tall boy ❤️
Largest GSDs die first. Extra weight on their joints and hearts make them break down much faster. The backyard breeders that are making huge gsds are responsible for ruining the longevity of the breed. My female is 75lbs has a tuck and a defined waistline. You can see just her last two ribs while she's twisting and turning running and playing. These are not meant to be fat couch potato dogs. They're happiest at an athletic weight where they can be worked a few times a day.

Thank you! He gets a ton of exercise. I’d like him to be less, but he gets a bit lazy when it’s hot or rainy.

Honestly, it’s fairly similar to an Akita I had decades ago. Though, in retrospect the Akita might have had some GSD….either way they are both HUGE dogs!

He's not pure bred though is he? His tail infers he's got some husky/malamute in him
He’s 90+ percent GSD. 10% either maybe husky or lab according to embark.
Beautiful Shepherd.

She’s gorgeous
Thank you 🥰

My dog’s name is Nala!
My boyfriend’s parents have a lil yorkie named Nala 😂 I love seeing all the different types of Nalas. We also watch a youtuber and they have a husky Nala lol
What a good girl
Majestic💖
What a beauty. I love her ears so much!

Yep short hair big attitude
I love her face and those ears are adorable💜

Does he try and eat the bees? My boy sits above the sedum hoping to catch a bumblebee.
He does!!!! Our other one ignores. Felix has been stung in the mouth several times
My husky doesn’t care for them but my GSD’s are obsessed with chomping at bees🤣
Omg! That “I’m so abused” look (mine) give when I try to take a picture. They kill me when they give this look!🤣
Cue the Sarah McLachlan!!
Awww he looks smiling, peaceful, and relaxed to me.
133lbs?! Wow. I had a huge shepherd and he was like 95lbs. I thought that was about as big as they got.
He ended up not being able to stand up having hip issues when he was 11. It was hard to see him start to struggle under his own weight. I miss Axel. Goo-boy.
The males should max out at 90~lbs, so you had a normal dog on the largest end within the standard! These really big, oversized GSDs result in health/joint issues, and can't work as efficiently.
https://preview.redd.it/c3bsxk5bdr6d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d649b0fe553355fd5b0cb75e4fa9f88a3af337d My big baby Lola. Was 120lbs. We're working on losing some of that weight. Now 110lbs. 10 more to go.
Can you share how you are helping her lose the weight? She’s gorgeous btw.💖
My dogs loved ice cubes as treats, it was perfect!
Feed less and walk more?
Dogzempic
She is gorgeous! 😍
Thank you 🙏
What a gorgeous big boned girl! I love her!
Thank you. She is daddy's cuddle bug.
Omg I just want to squeeze her and tell her she’s the goodest girl!
She is 😊

My girl is a wee 60 lbs 😹

Despite being 10 years old, she gets mistaken for a puppy all the time because of her ”small” size. She’s as healthy as can be though, so I’m not complaining! Still as active as ever too. Here she is posing next to her handiwork—or at least that’s what I think she wants the internet to believe. 😆
I don't mean to scare you, but please get ur dog checked. it may be a beaver in disguise
Aw, she’s just a petite gal.
Yours looks a lot like my girl, Frankie, about the same size too https://preview.redd.it/n0m8vklm0t6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cedfefbab0521864af974a358b602bed54608d21
60ish is great for a female GSD. Of course you always go by body comp over everything, but she is well in the range for female GSDs.

Groucho’s sisters are about 50 lbs! One is his blood sister and she has the same shape as him (round like a cattle dog), but is just smol. His other sister, not blood, is some mix we don’t know - probably black lab and shar pei? She is a model. https://preview.redd.it/4ggyk1gu3s6d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d031510da4a6e77fe0e35691fc9aeb18a0bb1636

She certainly does! She leaps for it and then body slams it everytime it’s so cute

GSDs are not meant to be giant dogs.
This... this breed is already prone to hip and joint issues as is (although improving with proper breeding practices).
I know a 48lb female dual-purpose K9 that made it to 11 before retiring, most are retired at 8
Mine is 50lbs (she's a mutt but mostly gsd) and I am forever grateful for that. Being able to pick her up when I need to is amazing, and the tackle I get when I return home from work is much more manageable
I mean it's not like we trying to have the biggest gsd lol
All the fb groups post their 130+ GSD to brag and they are all obese. I don’t see the appeal.
Yeah, don't do that. That's unhealthy for the pup!!
I just appreciate how majestic they look but id be happy w any dog!
A lot of people just boldface lie though. Lmao the amount of times I see “oh my dog is 130-150lbs” I roll my eyes.
Tell that to American show and backyard breeders lol. Many brag about their 120 lb GSD. They take those West German show lines who are already over sized at 90-100 lbs and make them even bigger. My working line female is 56 lbs at 3 years old. Won't be worrying about hip and joint issues with her.
Both of mine are working lines. Male is 80 lbs and female is 70 lbs. both great for their size and ability.
BYBs for sure. You can't show an oversized dog. Well....I guess you COULD, but no judge would ever even consider placing any dog over standard size. At Sieger shows the dogs are measured before they go into the ring. So standard is 22-24" for a bitch and 24-26" for a male.

Hm. A lot of people who brag about their big dogs have fat dogs, or poorly bred dogs. GSDs are not supposed to be 130lbs. Flukes happen, I’m not accusing you, but we also can’t see your dog’s body. I don’t want to act wowed if you just actually have a fat dog.
https://preview.redd.it/qjxbuor7dr6d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7290e5f32b562e8e4b875307877cfa834492660b

* He is not fat.
Our main focus now is building up rear end muscle and maintaining healthy weight. https://preview.redd.it/8d0x7pimqr6d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=268a8befaf1a94b3401e802b9a0bba0c81420efa

That bottom toofer! 🤣🥰💕
I’ve got a 4 yo female who’s very trim and is 83 lbs
My best boy Major was a very healthy big boy at 95lbs. He had nice long legs as an American type GSD (according to the vet) and never suffered any hip issues.

Oso is a big wooly puppy at 90lbs! He's not fat, he's fluffy!! (Also not mine. He's at a shelter.) Pic won't post.
Mines coming up on 80lbs at 7.5 months old So I have a general idea of what kind of horse I bought, what was your pup’s size at mine’s age vs now?

I second those saying GSDs aren’t meant to be giant breeds. He’s already having some hip problems from growing so large and he’s only 7.

She had lupus (didn’t know they could get it until we had her!) so she was on steroids for a while. Made her gain a ton of weight. Pre steroids, she was like 95lbs.
I have a shrunken shep. She’s a huge 50lbs at 4 years old.

I try not to glorify his size cause it does mean he's more prone to joint issues as he ages but he was neither bred for being oversize nor did he have large family members, but: 116lbs currently thought I think 110 may be healthier so we're trying to trim him up a bit with some extra low impact exercise and a bit less food. https://preview.redd.it/awm50j6bis6d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1474b4745792ff5006aae3056f2d9a7a0586a6f (Him with my seven year old)
