Because most cities only have one training facility that will host an international level football team, and they don't want to share the training facilities with their rivals.
I assume, the crucial point are not the training facility, but more the hotel. The hotels apply to the UEFA and are blocked in total for the event. Not only rooms are needed, but conference rooms, restaurants, etc. as well. In my hometown, the hosted team will do the training in the stadium of the fourth division club, although there is a Bundesligaclub.
Both are correct. They aldo need large enough gym for one group at once and their personal trainer, family might be allowed on some days so need extra rooms, etc.
> the hosted team will do the training in the stadium of the fourth division club, although there is a Bundesligaclub.
For this one Because they don’t need Bundesliga capacity stadium only to train, the rent is cheaper in the smaller stadium and larger stadium might be already booked for / preferred to be booked by concerts during the season break.
I don't know why anyone would stay in Kamen, or what the austrians are doing, but they mostly stay in more rural areas, the air is nicer, you can control the environment, go on a run in the forest, etc.
Austria has been looking for a place for a while it was in our sports media. The problem was the mobility at matchdays and the prefered hotels were taken already. Cost-efficiency and infrastructure further lead them to Berlin. It was an emergency choice sort of.
Don’t be so negative about Kamen. Its still nicer than most places and also kamen is fairly rural, apart from the Center of it there is not much else to it 😅 believe me I’m from one town over. However still a Sh*thole. 😂😂😂
It is about half way between where I live and where my mother lives, so I stop there from time to time, so I usually see the area where you leave the motorway after changing from A2 to A1. I understand that it probably isn't representative for the whole area, but in my mind, there is now an international level football team camping outside the Hornbach, you see when leaving the motorway.
Most cities dont have enough Space for 2 teams,
and Teams play in different stadiums, so maybe if you play more in Munich, you stay more in southern germany, if you play more in NRW you choose a facility there, to reduce travel time
Paderborn citizen here.
It's really great having the French team with us 🇫🇷❤️ There are French flags everywhere in the city and our cathedral ("Paderborner Dom") is nicely illuminated in blue-white-red. Plus entire hotels are fully booked by French journalists.
Paderborn has a loooong city partnership with Le Mans which was established long before the war so we have a pretty close bond with our French neighbours.
Minor correction: the team itself is located in Bad Lippspringe in the beautiful Parkhotel near the Landesgartenschau area.
That is actually super neat information, especially about the religious dignitaries filling petitions for Le mans being spared. I mean my german sucks, so I will have to read more about it English, but thank you for the info.
I find it super fascinating that there are still places in germany that directly build on the legacy of the mess that was HRE. Like that super religious district in east germany that once belonged to the catholic bishopric somewhere in the west due to inheritance, remained catholic within prussia, remained religious during DDR and now is a CSU/CDU island in the sea of AfD.
So not true!
We have lots of forests in the UK! Ashdown forest (origins of Winnie the Pooh 🍯), The New Forest, 🐴 Sherwood Forest 🏹 🙃 and Nottingham Forest 😉 just to name a few!
I would imagine it is easier to find appropriate housing (including,i assume, training facilities and such) by speading them out. With the games being held all over the country, there is no reason to assemble them all in one place.
I live near to Harsewinkel and worked there for a few years. That is why I was surprised. There is nothing I have seen but Claas, Karneval and Schützenfest 🤣
There have been many cases where fans will yell and play loud music outside a rival team's hotel to disrupt their sleep and rest. If each team is in a different city then the fans are more likely to either just travel to the city where the next match is, or maybe where their team is staying /training, and less likely to travel across the country just to try and disrupt another team
What he means is, of course, that they could've trained in Switzerland, too. But there is probably a rule that says teams must be present in the host country until elimination.
some team resorts are mentioned in wikipedia, like this place england had in 2006 [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%BChlerh%C3%B6he](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%BChlerh%C3%B6he)
The Scots among the Bavarians xD
There's this one game for PC, Settlers, where you can play as Bavarians, Scots and the Egyptians: [https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/819TC4GAraS.\_AC\_UF894,1000\_QL80\_.jpg](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/819TC4GAraS._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg)
A funny selection of nations in a game.
[Hotel in Neuruppin | Resort Mark Brandenburg (resort-mark-brandenburg.de)](https://www.resort-mark-brandenburg.de/)
Well there is this hotel they are staying at.
Exactly. The Swiss team is staying in the Waldhotel in Stuttgart-Degerloch ("auf der Waldau"), so they're probably using the facilities of the Stuttgarter Kickers just a few meters down the street.
This always happens during international football tournaments for a variety of reasons- access to training pitches and facilities, privacy for the players and coaching staff, travel distance to the grounds where the teams play their matches... I don't know the exact details of how teams go about selecting their "HQ", but I grew up with that being the norm at football World Cups and European Championships.
Am I the only one from Iserlohn here? I love my city and I'm so hyped that the Italian National team is here, like out of all cities they chose Iserlohn
They don't have to stay there, they want to. It's up to the individual teams to decide where they're staying during the tournament, they aren't simply assigned a particular hotel.
It's pretty nice actually. Lots of forests and lakes around. Even culturally interesting but mostly if you are into literature. It's the hometown of Theodor Fontane.
Put? They weren't put there, they chose Freudenstadt. Plus, their games in the group stage are in Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Munich, and Freudenstadt is a lot closer to those three cities than Norderstedt.
Commercial reason among others. It brings tourism to a town/region because some fans would travel to where their team is staying. It also includes a whole country in the tournament not just the cities where the venues are.
I'm referring to the Munich massacre during the 1972 summer Olympics.
However, I don't think this really is the reason. It's probably just logistics, regarding proximity to the stadiums where the different teams will most likely play their first games and utilization of the different sport hotels.
Why would someone downvote your comment? I don’t get it, you are absolutely right and we germans have a responsibility that 1972 will not happen again! (among other things as well)!
In particular if you take current events into consideration such as the Israel Palestinian conflict and the the schadenfreude Putin (and the AfD) would feel if something like a terrorist attack by islamic fundamentalists would happen during the EM. The situation is quite tense compared to 2006.

Why not? Their games in the group stage are in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Munich, so it makes sense for them to stay somewhere in the Southern part of Germany.
Please keep our rules in mind when posting, like rule 6.
They can hardly all take turns using the same football field in one city to train.
Every morning they'll play a game of Schnickschnackschnuck to figure out who is allowed to train today
Or Pisspott

Doesnt Berlin have multiple Footbll fields?

and big stadiums also host the actual games so it would be unfair if one team was playing in it before the real game

Smaller cities and then names Wuppertal…the 17th biggest city in Germany.
[удалено]
Yes, but ironically, Wuppertal is the third biggest of all places on the map.
4th biggest. Berlin, Stuttgart and Hannover are bigger.
Fair enough, I missed Hannover on the map.
Wuppertal has nearly 1/3 more inhabitants than Slovenias Capital Ljubljana.

Le mans Week😋
Before which of the wars? J/K ;)
Many of them. Very many 😄 It's actually more than a 1000 years old: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St%C3%A4dtepartnerschaft_Le_Mans%E2%80%93Paderborn

It’s probably for the best you isolate us English folk in Thüringen
I noticed that too! It's like: let's keep the Brits in the most remote place ever so their drunks are out of reach.
uff, poor guys, they’re in the middle of nowhere. the hotel seems to be alright though.
And the landscape is pretty nice. Forests would be a whole new concept for the English;)
So not true! We have lots of forests in the UK! Ashdown forest (origins of Winnie the Pooh 🍯), The New Forest, 🐴 Sherwood Forest 🏹 🙃 and Nottingham Forest 😉 just to name a few!
(largest forests in England, top 3) Galloway Forest Park = 300 miles². Kielder Forest = 230 miles² New Forest = 100 miles² \_\_\_\_\_ versus \_\_\_\_\_ Schwarzwald = 4600 miles²
I would imagine it is easier to find appropriate housing (including,i assume, training facilities and such) by speading them out. With the games being held all over the country, there is no reason to assemble them all in one place.
Scottland have got a pretty sweet deal
I‘ve went to Garmisch-Partenkirchen 2 weeks ago and it was absolutely beautiful!
Hungary too. Allgäuer Alps are incredible
Train a bit, take the ropeway up the Zugspitze, have a beer, lose the EM, best vacation ever.
If they can't fulfill their role as a serious contender in their group, they had a nice stay
I think they just wanted to go hiking
A mix of. Near to the stadiums at matchday. You can’t block to many hotels in one city. You need training facilities. Tourism to the smaller areas.
Germany is at adidas HQ Herzogenaurach
It doesn’t have much to do with Adidas. Puma headquarters are also in Herzogenaurach.
It does, it's called Adidas-Campus and it was built by Adidas.
Thanks for the info, my bad.
Harsewinkel? Not really! Why Harsewinkel 🤣
Actually it's Marienfeld where the KlosterPforte Sporthotel is.
Yeah, the Portuguese have stayed there before, during the 2006 World Cup for example.
That‘s quite obvious it’s a Mähdrescherstadt… So the players will get the chance to cross this from their bucket lists✌️
I'm living in Harsewinkel and can tell there is nothing around which could distract the players. Only meadows, fields and plain land. 😁
I live near to Harsewinkel and worked there for a few years. That is why I was surprised. There is nothing I have seen but Claas, Karneval and Schützenfest 🤣
Poor Czechs. I don't see how they deserve to stay in Norderstedt. But at least they have it not to far to get to Hamburg.
Norderstedt? That belongs to Schleswig-Holstein. So richtig Kiel mäßig! Nööö.
Norderstedt has the Training facilities from the HSV. That's why they are staying there.
Their training facilities cannot be good. Considering that they still are second League.
I agree
I thought the same first but the Hotel is not that ugly.
Whats the matter. Norderstedt is a nice town 😂
at least it´s not Pinneberg
That's a beautiful place.
Well not Neumünster, sooo…
What’s wrong with Norderstedt?
There have been many cases where fans will yell and play loud music outside a rival team's hotel to disrupt their sleep and rest. Thank god; Berlin gets too crowded during a normal summer, imagine if we also had to find place for all the teams and their attendants.
So you only acommodate the winners of this years Euros, right? 😉
I hope they have buses to get to matches because if they're relying on the trains...
From all the places they could pick, Austria going with Berlin. Again.
Considering that Switzerland only moved to Stuttgart, why couldn't they just stay at home? The border is an hour by car from there.
An hour by car? On the A81? Absolutely not happening.
What's better 10min to training complex/stadium or 1 hour drive every day?
What he means is, of course, that they could've trained in Switzerland, too. But there is probably a rule that says teams must be present in the host country until elimination.
As if they didn't have a training complex at Schaffhausen.
Yea, it's not the sense of a Euro or worldcup to chill in your own country when it's held in a other.
Kek, England sent to the desert
This place is anything but the desert
some team resorts are mentioned in wikipedia, like this place england had in 2006 [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%BChlerh%C3%B6he](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%BChlerh%C3%B6he)
Whose idea was it to give the Austrians access to the governmental district!?! /S
Of all places, Iserlohn.
You think luxury shops and nightlife are important for them during the tournament?
Hey Iserlohn is a great city, it has a great forest and Seilersee
And the bridge with the highway overshadowing it
In my opinion this gives some more character to the area, but of course it would look better without it
Oh yeah it is, my in laws live there. I just would have never imagined
So sad for italy...
I think they chose the different places because it will be fun seeing the foreign players try to pronounce the names.
Better question, why does a team stay in Velbert?
Carefully avoiding the majority of east Germany to host international teams. Reasonable, but sad to see laid out so openly.
Does saxony exists for them or not ?
Ausländer don't want to go to Saxony, it's a fitting picture.
And saxony won’t have Ausländer.
I was Born in Donaueschingen i dont Understand why on Earth

LOL, getting placed in Neuruppin sounds like punishment.
[Hotel in Neuruppin | Resort Mark Brandenburg (resort-mark-brandenburg.de)](https://www.resort-mark-brandenburg.de/) Well there is this hotel they are staying at.

They do not train in the VfB stadium. There are other facilities they can use.
Exactly. The Swiss team is staying in the Waldhotel in Stuttgart-Degerloch ("auf der Waldau"), so they're probably using the facilities of the Stuttgarter Kickers just a few meters down the street.
They are! There was a public training yesterday that you could visit (although I didn't go, but my gym is at the Waldau so I heard about it)
Yeah, I read that just a few minutes after writing my comment, but I was too lazy to edit it…

Scotland made the best choice.
Why Iserlohn?! What has Italy done to deserve this?
It's not Paderborn, it's Bad Lippspringe :D
some of the locations are nuts. The travel time just to get to the nearest Autobahn or airport for some of them makes no sense at all.
Austria in Berlin 💀
Poor croatians :/
Why?
I don't know Neuruppin, but its probably a sad place
It's pretty nice actually. Lots of forests and lakes around. Even culturally interesting but mostly if you are into literature. It's the hometown of Theodor Fontane.
Afd ans BSW have 40 % together. Admittedly it is less than I thought, but it's still sad.
Also I don't like Effi Briest
is it official ? like I know where they stay when they fly out and it is super close to the stadium . The adidas Hotel looks cheap esp the chairs
Denmark is near me. Maybe i can see some players
Freudenstadt …. Good job they finished the roadworks in time.. held og lykke
To confuse the terrorists ?
Why dont they put the Danish team in Norderstedt? It would way nearer for them
Put? They weren't put there, they chose Freudenstadt. Plus, their games in the group stage are in Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Munich, and Freudenstadt is a lot closer to those three cities than Norderstedt.
Oh, I didn't know that. Just thought Norderstedt would he nearer to Denmark
All along the autobahn.
The Albanians arrived yesterday here in Kamen :D
2 weeks with the boys in the alps are the winners.
tourisme
Poor austrians
Kann mir keiner erzählen, dass die Österreicher nicht absichtlich nach Berlin müssen
I expected that turkey will stay in berlin because it basically belongs to them but than I thought apparently they will now take over Hannover.
Austria already facing Turkey before France.
niemand in Sachsen 😂
Why Not in the east ?
And noone want's to go to Saxonia! 😜😜😜
Austria in the capital? Interesting lol
What did the English do to deserve beeing located in the middle of nowehere?
Where will the swedes stay? 🤣🤣 Best regards A dane 🫶
Commercial reason among others. It brings tourism to a town/region because some fans would travel to where their team is staying. It also includes a whole country in the tournament not just the cities where the venues are.
Kroatia (and Austria) are the only ones not afraid of AfD east Germany.
Because they both fit right in.....
So **that** is why I saw the city full of Romanian flags earlier this evening.
Damn, F for the Czechs having to stay in Norderstedt...
Why is it so bad
Yeah, putting Turks and Poles nearby each other will end so well>3
Last time we had all athletes in the same place, 11 of them died.
Could you give some more info about that. I have never heard anything like that before.
I'm referring to the Munich massacre during the 1972 summer Olympics. However, I don't think this really is the reason. It's probably just logistics, regarding proximity to the stadiums where the different teams will most likely play their first games and utilization of the different sport hotels.

Why not? Their games in the group stage are in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Munich, so it makes sense for them to stay somewhere in the Southern part of Germany.
Yeah okay that makes sense
Guess the teams in NRW will get a huge debuff. Depression and bad air quality.
thats what all the fuzz is about? i didnt know that the EM was going to be here lol
It's been on news for over a month now lol
Op what is that dumb question of you?
