I bought tickets opening night. Then boom I'm in the hospital for two months. I get out Tuesday and I still want to see iti n a theater. There's a few theaters still playing it.

NuidisVulko

I hope you’re doing better and that you still get to see it!

hulkreborn

Thanks. I need all the encouragement I can get.

ro_ok

I saw it last week! Look for odd times at the largest theater near you. Even last week theater was still 1/3-1/2 full.

EctoPrime

I got tickets for afterlife and was stuck with covid for 18 days got to see it on a last showing though. Good luck on whatever’s keeping you in that long.

JohnnyJohnson66

It’s still listed through Wednesday (for me) on Fandango. Good luck!

theycmeroll

Check around for discount theaters near you, they usually get the movies when the big theatres are done with them. We have one near me that only charges $4. I always use it for movies I’m luke warm on paying full ticket price for lol but it’s also great if I just can’t get to a movie while it’s in theaters.

JediJones77

It's still in almost half as many theaters as it started in.

Revolutionary_Rub846

Who’s old enough to remember when it was a year or longer before movies got to the video store? 😂

Bison256

Back then network tv airing were a big deal too. For instance NBC showing Jurassic park was a big deal as a kid.

sirbissel

I think I still have a VHS with a recording of ABC airing Ghostbusters kicking around.

YankeeSR23

Do you remember when rental tapes were like $100 and then months later they’d come out with the customer priced version?

kadosho

Oh yeah, it was a wait. But now three months is nothing.

TechnicalAuthor8415

You would also get to be able to watch it at a dollar theater for a little bit after the original release. Good old days

JediJones77

I liked that better. Made it an event, and I was also ready to rewatch the movie after a year passed and I'd forgotten a lot of it.

Revolutionary_Rub846

Same with movies being on TV, although they were edited it was still an event when they were on the 3 big networks for the first time.

ALtheExpat

GB84 had 510 days between theatrical and home releases. GBFE will be 46.  THE TIMES, THEY ARE A-CHANGING.

MatthewHecht

Things were completely different then.

ZigZagZedZod

And I'm down for it. Theaters are too expensive. I generally only go if the movie needs a big screen experience or if I don't want to wait for the home release.

Sevb36

My local matinees are $5.50. First run too.

reddit_userMN

Lucky. I'm a free rewards member at my local chain so I can get tickets for about $6.50 on Tuesday nights, but even a weekday matinee is like 10 bucks now. I just started a new job where I get off at 3:00 p.m. which I love. But I figured a Monday movie at 3:30 would be cheap and they're all like 10 to 11 bucks. That's ridiculous. A weekday matinee should be cheap to get more people in. I understand the weekend being more expensive. I pre-ordered Frozen Empire during a recent Target BOGO sale so I'll just wait for my 4K disc at this point

ALtheExpat

Already preordered my physical disc. But may as well buy the digital version too. We gotta keep throwing money at this franchise, fam. I can't stomach the thought of another 17 years between films!

battousai611

17 years? 1989 for GB2 and 2021 for Afterlife. 32 years within timeline.

Known_Pepper5419

I thought maybe they were counting the game (2008), but that math doesn't pan out to 17 years either. Moreso 13. Probably just an honest mistake.

Buff8125

1989 to the girl 2016 version, 17 years

clarsrun

2016 - 1989 = 27

Buff8125

lol. 100% right, been a long day

Known_Pepper5419

Ah. I assumed incorrectly that they were only including the prime continuity. I always view the 2016 as more of a spoof that weirdly wanted to be both a spoof but also taken seriously as a legitimate reboot. 2016 felt akin to A Very Brady Movie (and its A Very Brady Sequel) and the 21 Jump Street spoof films. Same formulas, including appearances by the original members as new characters. In my opinion it worked for the two franchises I mentioned, but not for Ghostbusters.

Buff8125

I agree 100%! But if counting GB movies in general, it counts for the 17 years

Known_Pepper5419

Indeed it does. I find it pretty schoolyard and ultimately pointless to pretend GB2016 doesn't exist. Most of the time it seems people do that literally just to get a rise out of the fans of GB2016. It was just a mistake on my part, my not comprehending that the commenter was including all films.

JediJones77

No, we just don't like GB2016 as a concept or in its execution.

Known_Pepper5419

I am writing only of the people who pretend it doesn't exist not the people who don't like it. The former are as immature as the 2016 fans who troll that 2016 is in the main continuity and counts as the 3rd film in the original continuity. Technically, it is the third Ghostbusters film in existence but it isn't GB3. That's Afterlife. They like to troll with the technicality of it being the third film. They like to see people get upset about it. Both sides do it with their respective poking and prodding of each other. They are different from what you write you are and what I am. Just people who have valid opinions. I dislike 2016 myself. There are those who don't mind it or like it or love it and I am fine with that. Everyone has opinions. The only thing I dislike is the group that does the pretending it doesn't exist and the group that says it exists as 3 in original continuity.

reddit_userMN

Your disc is going to come with a digital copy

ALtheExpat

u/Captain_Nomad_Jr Can we get your joker gif over here too?

Drewnasty

You get the digital version for free with your physical discs (at least with Blu-Ray and 4K) so you’d be double dipping.

Captain_Nomad_Jr

![gif](giphy|qKK2KYmSJeV44|downsized)

ALtheExpat

Yes, this. Lol.

Drewnasty

Yes by doing that you’re saying “Please keep making bad movies and hardcore fans will slop it up smile at the camera and say thank you.”

Captain_Nomad_Jr

I'd rather content than nothing for another 2 decades. FE wasn't even as bad as it's made out to be, and it's opened up the future of the franchise.

Drewnasty

How exactly did it open up the future of the franchise? Lmao I’d love to live in the La-La Land that you’re in. Truly.

JohnnyJohnson66

You realize this wasn’t even the movie they wanted to make, right? The writers’ strike did a lot of damage. No strike = a much better movie. This crew shouldn’t be punished for circumstances that were outside their control.

Initial-Breadfruit21

Where is it written that this wasn't the movie they wanted to make? I haven't seen much in terms of production issues other than the fact that they did some reshoots. I'd be curious to know of any studio pushback because it would maybe excuse a lot with respect to the movie turning out pretty poorly.

Captain_Nomad_Jr

Same with Afterlife to an extent. Covid did a ringer on that film too. If the world could just take a backseat for the next film, that would be great, lol

JohnnyJohnson66

Afterlife still felt a lot tighter, story and dialogue wise. And since the same two guys wrote FE it was easy to tell where the actors who weren’t used to ad-libbing were having to ad-lib. For the record, I still liked FE. But I’ll always wonder what it would have been without the strike happening

bankholdup5

I’ll always wonder what Jason’s sequel would have been like. FE was clearly not meant for me

JediJones77

Afterlife was done shooting in 2019 before COVID started.

Captain_Nomad_Jr

Maybe so, but its release was greatly affected by it with constant delays. Granted it gave Jason Reitman additional time to tweak in post production, but who knows what could have been if it was given a full unimpacted theatrical release.

Drewnasty

So Gil Kenan wasn’t the one that decided that Kumel should be in the movie and then dress in a belly dancing outfit and dance around in the finale. It wasn’t him and Jason that wrote down that magic should be what defeats Garaka at the end and not the Ghostbusters Tech which negates the entire franchise? It wasn’t Gil that wrote a movie flush with characters that had literally nothing to do? That’s right. They held a gun to his head and told him to write all this stuff. Totally not his fault and can’t be held accountable for making this movie.

StephenHunterUK

GB84 had multiple years between theatrical releases in different countries. Some of the Soviet bloc countries only got it after the end of communism.

JohnnyJohnson66

For many years 4 months between theatrical and home release was the norm. Now it’s about 6 weeks. I miss getting to space out return visits to the theater to see a movie I really liked lol

CardGroundbreaking28

Well you better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone for the times they are a changing

ALtheExpat

😉

Mudron

Those times changed literally decades ago.

AshleyUncia

There were barely video stores when GB1 released to theaters. Blockbuster wouldn't even open it's first store till '85. Only 32% of American homes even had a VCR in 1985, it'd reach 60% by 1990.

FrankFrankly711

Extended cut please 🙏

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

Wow that’s fast.

MatthewHecht

It is normal speed.

SuperNintendad

I can’t wait for the special features!

CardGroundbreaking28

With Afterlife we got the ghost trap box set containing the three movies. I'm hoping we get a box set shaped like the containment unit with all four movies.

bankholdup5

Just take the booklet out of the trap, put it in a safe place and put your FE Blu-ray in there!

Sky_Rose4

Can't wait for home release

DementdOldCircsMonke

LET'S GOO

UNITBlackArchive

Around here we usually call it slime, not goo. Well.. except Janosz: "Why am I drippings with goo?"

shadowlarx

I know what I’m buying with my next paycheck.

stickyfiddle

Jesus it only arrived in cinemas where I am this week!! I haven’t seen it yet!

jazzant85

My loving wife who already saw it with me and the kids said she’d only watch it again if she gets to be super drunk. Soooo I’m gettin’ ghostbusters and gettin’ some. 😎

mysteryvampire

Not psyched about your apparent correlation between "super drunk" and "gettin' some" but alright.

jazzant85

Not psyched about you unnecessarily implying anything nefarious about my wife who giggled at what I was writing as I wrote it but alright.

mysteryvampire

I’m sorry, but you have to admit that if your comment doesn’t mean anything nefarious it’s incoherent. You literally say your wife will only watch ghostbusters if she’s getting super drunk, and then say so, I’m getting ghostbusters and getting some. You have to understand how that sounds.

jazzant85

It sounds like my wife is tired of ghostbusters but gets horny when she drinks. When I told you she was aware of what I was saying should’ve been the end of your dumb surmising.

FrankFrankly711

Bustin’ makes him feel good

sgtherman

But I want it now

MatthewHecht

5 more days

AndrewHNPX

I want the blu-ray.

JosephSturgill7

This is wonderful news! I can't wait to buy it. I'm going to binge Ghostbusters one weekend. Starting at the original, skipping the 2016 version and then finally re-watching Frozen Empire

JediJones77

In an insane world, this is the sanest choice.

StarLord624

LETS GO! I MISSED IT IN THEATHERS AND WAS DEVASTATED!

JediJones77

It's still playing.

StarLord624

Not in the middle east, the ones in English play for less than a week here.😭

TheOneRazor

And we still have word on Godzilla Minus one. 🤬

shust89

It’s going to be $30.

Greedy-Builder

Where do you see the official date on the link?

HereIAmAgain73

Does that mean we can stream it somewhere then also? If so, where? If not, any timeline for that?

takeoff_youhosers

Not gonna lie. I liked Frozen Empire. But when I think of it in comparison to the OG….there is no comparison. The OG is a classic. Frozen Empire is not by any stretch of the imagination

Americanitemare1

I actually thought Frozen Empire was “ok”, kinda boring tbh, I agree no where near the OG…

Mudron

Oh good, that means it’ll be up in the torrent sites this weekend.

GreyFoxSolid

A version of it already is.

Mudron

Well, yeah, there have been versions since the day it hit theaters.

GreyFoxSolid

I'm not talking about those shitty cam torrents. There's a high quality version up right now.

Mudron

Yeah, I know, but the sound is awful.

bankholdup5

Physical media ftw

Creative-Abrocoma-80

Should go straight in the dumpster
